[Bug 795427] Re: Upgrade Libvirt up to 0.9.1 generates new bug with Virt-Manager

2011-06-13 Thread Boris Derzhavets
1. By default flag appears not to be set at all.
I tried to check CDROM as first . It doesn't help.
2. Absence spicevmc patches is not connected to issue,
but VM functionality is affected . Please , take a look
how VM & VIRTINST stuff is done on Fedora 15.

[Bug 350936] Re: Should shut down domains on system shutdown

2011-06-13 Thread Sebastian Marsching
The problem of shutting down the virtual machines consists of two parts:

If a init-script is used, libvirtd might be killed, before the shutdown
command has been sent to the virtual machines. If the pre-stop script in
the libvirt-bin upstart job is used or a new upstart job starting on
stopping libvirt-bin is used, the computer is rebooted, the VMs are
killed by the sendsigs script. Even if the sendsigs script is modified
to not kill the VMs, the reboot or halt script might run before the
libvirt-bin upstart job has been stopped.

I use the following approach, which works quite well for me:
I added a libvirt-shutdown-domains upstart job, which is a task starting on
stopping libvirt-bin, thus running before libvirt-bin is stopped. This makes
sure that libvirt-bin is not stopped, before the VMs are shutdown. In fact, I
also included a runlevel check in the libvirt-shutdown-domains script, so that
the VMs are only shutdown, when libvirtd is stopped because of a runlevel
change. This allows for libvirtd to be restarted (e.g. when libvirt-bin is
upgraded) without having to shutdown all VMs.
I also added a init-script running before the sendsigs script, which waits for
libvirt-bin to be stopped (or a timeout, whichever occurs first). Thus,
sendsigs will not kill VMs and the machine will not be rebooted or powered off,
before the VMs have been stopped.

The scripts I wrote for this can be found at
http://sebastian.marsching.com/wiki/Linux/KVM#Shutdown_virtual_machines_on_host_system_shutdown
and some more explanations can be found at
http://sebastian.marsching.com/blog/archives/112-KVM-and-Graceful-
Shutdown-on-Ubuntu.html.

The solution I created is not perfect though because of two issues:
1. The python-libvirt package is needed, because I use a Python script to
shutdown the virtual machines. You might want to use a shell script using virsh
for that, thus eliminating this dependency.
2. The timeout, after which the shutdown will proceed anyway, is configured at
two different places: The init-script and the Python script called by the
upstart job. You might want to put both in the same place (e.g.
/etc/default/libvirt-bin).

[Bug 787551] Re: ntpdate 4.2.6p2@1.2194-o: "no server suitable for synchronization found" - works with 4.2.4p8@1.1612-o

2011-06-13 Thread Dave Walker
** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: ntpdate
+ IMPACT: When attempting to sync to some ntp servers, a failure is
consistently produced.
+ FIXED: In oneiric and upstream >4.2.6p3-RC9 or >4.2.7p80

transmit timestamps are equal (Includes windows server 2003).

- ntpdate on natty (4.2.6p2@1.2194-o) fails to sync with server, while
- lucid server ntpdate works
+ Test: ntpdate xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

- Issue seems to be identical to
+ Expected failure is:
+ ntpdate[7149]: no server suitable for synchronization found

+ Expected success is (example):
+ ntpdate[13959]: adjust time server 66.36.239.66 offset 0.144635 sec

- Bug was introduced in 4.2.6p2, should be fixed in 4.2.6p3 (see links)
-
- Please note also, that ntp.org is deprecating ntpdate (see
- http://support.ntp.org/bin/view/Dev/DeprecatingNtpdate )).
-
- # lsb_release -rd
- Description:Ubuntu 11.04
- Release:11.04
- # apt-cache policy ntpdate
- ntpdate:
- Installed: 1:4.2.6.p2+dfsg-1ubuntu5
- Candidate: 1:4.2.6.p2+dfsg-1ubuntu5

+ DISCUSSION:
+ Regression potential is considered low. It is a patch cherry picked from
upstream, and has been fixed in some other distros since December 2010.

[Bug 644489] Re: constantly changes /dev/disk/by-id/{scsi, wwn}-* LUN symlinks with multipathing

2011-06-13 Thread Peter Petrakis
We had another incident of this fault, but with an EMC Clariion CX4-120.
After eliminating LVM, and moving to a default MP config. It wasn't
until we removed the "change" rule to the 95-multipath.tools script
that the udev error messages ceased. I'm convinced that this
approach for the boot scripts is broken now and requires additional
scrutiny.

"/dev/bus/usb/003/003: Operation not permitted" repeated in guest log
and no sign of device in guest.

[Bug 488696] Re: syntax error in nsswitch config near [ syntax error ]

2011-06-13 Thread Whit Blauvelt
Why is that a year after the fix was released (adding the nnswitch.conf
line works for me on Ubuntu Server 10.10), there is no updated package
with the fix for Ubuntu 10.10? 11.04 does not appear to need the fix,
despite that line being added. But 11.04 does. Shouldn't it have been
pushed out?

[Bug 796750] [NEW] apache2 startup fails with missing log directory

2011-06-13 Thread Chip Rosenthal
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apache2

If $APACHE_LOG_DIR (as defined in /etc/apache2/envvars), server startup
fails.

This situation is extremely common on a host that has a root filesystem
SSD. In this case, /var/log may be put on a ramdisk that is created on
each boot.

It would be helpful if the apache initscript createad the log directory
if needed.
