[Bug 641151] Re: multipath flush always returns 1

2011-08-30 Thread James Page
Hi Peter

Thanks very much for documenting the SRU justification and proposing
branches for lucid, natty and maverick.

Unfortunately there is already a SRU in -proposed for multipath-tools
(see bug 789229) so we need to let this complete SRU process to -updates
for these three releases before uploading your proposed branches.

You will need to update each of your proposed branches with the changes
from -updates once accepted and revise the debian/changelog version
numbers as below:

 Natty: 0.4.8-14ubuntu10.3
 Maverick: 0.4.8-14ubuntu4.10.10.4
 Lucid: 0.4.8-14ubuntu4.10.04.4

Please can you also make sure that the branches target -proposed in the
changelog, i.e. natty-proposed, instead of the standard 'natty' release
pocket - this will make sure it gets into the right part of the archive
for SRU verification.

I'm going to mark all three merge proposals as 'Needs Fixing' for the
time being as they all need to be updated.

You can find more detail on the SRU process here -
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure.

Thanks again

[Bug 634102] Re: t1.micro EC2 instances hang on reboot

2011-08-30 Thread Scott Moser
@Ray,
  It seems to have been fixed for me. I suspect that you're either not running
the AMI you think you are, or some process of your own is adding entries to
/etc/fstab.

#  us-east-1 ami-1cad5275 hvm/ubuntu-natty-11.04-amd64-server-20110426
$ ec2metadata --instance-type
cc1.4xlarge
$ ec2metadata --ami-id

$ grep -v ^# /etc/fstab
proc/proc   proc

LABEL=uec-rootfs   /   ext4
defaults0   0
/dev/xvdb   /mntautodefaults,nobootwait,comment=cloudconfig 0
2

# us-east-1 ami-4d448424 hvm/ubuntu-natty-daily-amd64-server-20110829
$ ec2metadata --ami-id
ami-4d448424
$ ec2metadata --instance-type
cc1.4xlarge
$ grep -v ^# /etc/fstab
proc/proc   proc

LABEL=cloudimg-rootfs   /
ext4defaults0   0
/dev/xvdb   /mntautodefaults,nobootwait,comment=cloudconfig 0
2

I also verified 'reboot' was functional on cc1.4xlarge both no
'--block-device-mapping' arguments and with:
 --block-device-mapping /dev/sdb=ephemeral0 --block-device-mapping
/dev/sdc=ephemeral1

[Bug 820936] Re: Virtual server setup breaks Rewrite Rules

2011-08-30 Thread James Page
Switching Virtualhost *:80 to Virtualhost _default_:80 does not
make the default site configuration pickup global rewrite rule
definitions - see
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/mod_rewrite.html#vhosts.

Going with option 2 (removing virtual host definition altogether) really
breaks the concept of sites-available and sites-enabled so I don't think
we should take that route.

Option 1 might be feasible - however I don't think that including all of
the conf.d directory within the VirtualHost definition is correct so it
would need a separate 'global rewrites' directory.

We would also need to bear in mind that mod_rewrite is not enabled by
default so maybe rewrite configuration should be treated as a
customization rather than part of the base installation. Whatever we do
we should do it in-conjunction with Debian as changing default
behaviour/configuration could break alot of stuff.

Marking as 'Opinion' as merits further discussion.

Thanks for testing. I think I was a bit too fast on this one. I think

[Bug 833499] Re: virt/disk.py unconditionally inserts public_keys into /root/.ssh/authorized_keys

2011-08-30 Thread Scott Moser
I've commited to cloud-init's trunk an improvement to cloud-init that works
around this.
The fix there changes updating of .ssh/authorized_keys to update existing
entries rather than appending. In this case, then, the inserted key is
re-written appropriately.

[Bug 837385] [NEW] hostname from dhcp STILL not set, despite multiple ubuntu fixes and bug reports

2011-08-30 Thread perpetualrabbit
Public bug reported:

Despite multiple bug reports and attempts at fixes, ubuntu versions
maverick and natty do NOT set their hostname from dhcp. See: #537978,
#482313, #90388, #476491

Releases:
---
   maverick: lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 10.10
Release:10.10
   natty: lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 11.04
Release:  11.04

Versions of dhcp and hostname packages:
---
maverick:dpkg -l | grep -E dhcp\|hostname
   ii  dhcp3-client3.1.3-2ubuntu6.3
 DHCP client
   ii  dhcp3-common3.1.3-2ubuntu6.3
 common files used by all the dhcp3* packages
   ii  hostname3.04ubuntu1
 utility to set/show the host name or domain name

natty: dpkg -l | grep -E dhcp\|hostname
   ii  hostname 3.05ubuntu1
   utility to set/show the host name or domain name
   ii  isc-dhcp-client  4.1.1-P1-15ubuntu9.1
   ISC DHCP client
   ii  isc-dhcp-common  4.1.1-P1-15ubuntu9.1
   common files used by all the isc-dhcp* packages

What I expect to happen:
---
 With client configured with empty /etc/hostname, and main network
interface configured for dhcp, I expect the hostname to be set during boot.

What happened instead:
---
With empty /etc/hostname, the machine comes up with (none) as hostname,
with /etc/hostname missing entirily, the hostname is set to `localhost´

Elaboration:
---
In networks with lots (dozens or hundreds) of linux workstations I keep the
/etc/hostname on each of them empty. They get the hostname from dhcp at
boot-time and set it. Managing lots of clients or a HPC cluster becomes
impractical if I have to set all hostnames on them by hand. Installation in
such a situation typically happens from an imaging host, where one or maybe a
few images is used to install on hundreds of clients.
So there must be NO host-specific configuration in these images. Hostnames are
set by the dhcp client with information provided by the dhcp server. UUID's are
NOT used in /etc/fstab, /boot/grub/grub.cfg, /etc/grub.d/*, or within the
initrd.img file. Instead device files are used: /dev/sda for instance. The
kernel commandline
root=UUID=db662660-94f7-4e94-8ed4-785fa9938ad0 ro quiet may be correct for the
_image_ but not for the client it is copied to! Yes, I could figure out with
blkid and script it so that the UUID for the client will be correct in various
places, but that is not what I want, it is too error-prone.

I want to be able to configure in /etc/default/dhclient that I want to
set the hostname as provided by the dhcp server, and in
/etc/default/grub that I want to use device files, not UUIDs.

Unfortunately Canonical gives me no such configuration options at this
time, and this is not good for sysadmins like me who need tools to
administrate lots of workstations.

Also note that dhcp clients can push a client side provided hostname to
a dhcp or dns server, which is useful if you have a laptop that the user
has root-access to. My situation is the other way around: the users have
NO root-access on the workstations or the HPC cluster, and hostnames are
centrally pushed to the clients.

For this latest dhcp host-setting regression I suspect two reasons.
I suspect two reasons:
1) upstart sets the hostname in recent ubuntu distros, and it simply does:
exec hostname -b -F /etc/hostname
This will not work if /etc/hostname is empty!
2) dhclient does not set the hostname despite being so configured in
/etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf
Apparantly it is possible to write an exit hook script that sets the
hostname like this:
# = /etc/dhcp/dhclient-exit-hooks.d/hostname ==
if [[ -n $new_host_name ]]
then
echo $new_host_name  /etc/hostname
/bin/hostname $new_host_name
fi

Apparantly $new_host_name is the internal variable that dhclient uses for the
hostname info that it got from the dhcp server.

The correctly configured dhcp server has stanzas for the clients like this:

  host maris007 {
fixed-address 10.0.0.7;
hardware ethernet 00:30:48:58:df:14;
option host-name maris007;}

[Bug 498022] Re: Need package for php5 without suhosin patch

2011-08-30 Thread dgtlmoon
@adconrad yes please don't assume that this fixes all problem, even by
setting suhosin to simulate mode only (as per your documentation link)
it still does not work with zend correctly, which makes it a real pain
for any PHP developers to use ubuntu based systems as their weapon of
choice.

[Bug 836119] Re: KVM Guest gets general protection fault on two CPUs

2011-08-30 Thread Endre Stølsvik
You do understand correctly - the oops is from the natty guest.

Today when I came home, the server had completely frozen. I took a
physical screenshot, which I've included - and there was no trace of
this in the syslog og kern, the log just stopped at some point, then the
next log entry was many hours later starting at boot.

I will try to apport.

2011-08-30 Thread Endre Stølsvik
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected natty

** Description changed:

  Got the following errors (listed below) when trying to enter a KVM Guest
running Ubuntu desktop 11.04 on top of a KVM Host running Ubuntu server 11.04
install.
  This was done from a virt-manager running on a 11.04 desktop using ssh over
to the server.
  The entering mentioned was merely to move the mouse to within the VM viewer.

  I could still login to the KVM guest with ssh, though.

  I tried shutting down the KVM guest from within using 'shutdown -h NOW',
  but while this took down the OS, it apparently didn't properly shut down
  the actual VM instance.

  When trying to use virt-manager (remotely, as mentioned) to forcefully
  shut it down, this didn't work out either - just hanging the GUI for a
  little while, then stating that the operation timed out.

  When using virsh when logged into the Host, I get:
virsh # destroy Store
error: Failed to destroy domain Store
error: Timed out during operation: cannot acquire state change lock

  Then, after following some ideas from..
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=676205
  .. I now have a situation where virsh list doesn't even return:

  endre@SixCore:~$ virsh
  Welcome to virsh, the virtualization interactive terminal.
..
  virsh # list
   Id Name State
  --
   17 NewDisk  running
  [.. hanging .. Store should have been printed here ..]

  Today (the next day), I tried virsh list again, and this time it worked out,
with Store listed as running. I then tried connecting via virt-manager, but
when trying to go into the machine (virt-viewer?) I get Connecting to to
graphical console for Guest, just hanging.

  I then tried to forcefully kill the VM again (Force off in virt-
  manager), but this yields the following traceback. Notice the
  libvirtError: Timed out during operation: cannot acquire state change
  lock.

  Traceback (most recent call last):

that they are not to be bothered about, but that was apparently several

[Bug 833499] Re: virt/disk.py unconditionally inserts public_keys into /root/.ssh/authorized_keys

2011-08-30 Thread Vish Ishaya
Since there is a workaround, I'm setting this to low. We should at
least provide a flag allowing deployers to turn off key injection if
they don't want it.

[Bug 824874] Re: nova-objectstore goes into a tight loop and becomes unresponsive

2011-08-30 Thread Vish Ishaya
This seems important, but I think we need a repro case. Dave: if uec-
publish-tarball is important for deployments, perhaps the best solution
is to do a test deployment using S3 frontend for swift and see if it is
possible to get nova to work with that instead of nova-objectstoer

[Bug 710040] [NEW] xsensors does not support atom d525

2011-08-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: xsensors

@atomic-breeze:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
Release:10.04
@atomic-breeze:~$ apt-cache policy xsensors
xsensors:
  Installed: 0.70-1ubuntu1
  Candidate: 0.70-1ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 0.70-1ubuntu1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/universe Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
@atomic-breeze:~$ ^C
@atomic-breeze:~$

Expected:
After running the sensor detection script, the loaded modules were coretemp.
xsensors shows two tabs - sure would be nice if they were next to each other
rather than covering each other up.
Expected to be able to show F or C, and only saw C. not sure how to change it.
Temps reported about or slightly higher than the temps I measured with
non-contact thermometer as: 85-90 F at the heat sink.

Observed:
two tabs both with temps in C that were not reasonable.

see attached screenshots.

Thanks,
windy

xsensors only reads the data put out by libsensors4. Temperature scale
is configurable via terminal.

** Package changed: xsensors (Ubuntu) = lm-sensors (Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

- xsensors does not support atom d525
+ does not support atom d525

It built now, so moving to beta-2 and lowering priority a bit as it
seems to be a transient issue.
