[Bug 884908] Re: Package dependencies need work
** Description changed: SRU Justification (Marc Cluet) - TEST CASE: - 1. Install mcollective-middleware, it won't install mcollective - 2. Install mcollective-clients, some of the plugins will fail due to the lack of rubygems, libsystemu-ruby or ruby-json + TEST CASE 1: + 1. sudo apt-get install mcollective-middleware + 2. mcollective is not installed - it should be as this package wraps mcollective and rabbitmq into a single installable unit. + + TEST CASE 2: + 1. sudo apt-get install mcollective-client + 2. sudo mc-find-hosts - will fail with the following error message: + + /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/mcollective.rb:1:in `require': no such file to load -- rubygems (LoadError) + from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/mcollective.rb:1 + from /usr/sbin/mc-find-hosts:3:in `require' + from /usr/sbin/mc-find-hosts:3 REGRESSION POTENTIAL: It's just adding missing dependencies, regression potential almost 0 since we don't incur in any other changes. COURSE OF ACTION FOR ONEIRIC: Add the missing dependencies. 1. Add mcollective in mcollective-middleware package so it installs the missing daemon - 2. Add rubygems, libsystemu-ruby or ruby-json on mcollective-clients package in order to + 2. Add rubygems, libsystemu-ruby or ruby-json on mcollective-clients package in order to fullfil missing dependencies SRU Justification This is actually a bug report for mcollective, mcollective-middleware and mcollective-client. The package dependencies need to be looked at because as they stand now on Ubuntu 11.10 oneiric, they are not correct. What I have discovered so far is: mcollective-middleware need to depend on mcollective, otherwise the directory /etc/mcollective is not created. At least mcollective-client needs to depends on 'rubygems'. Without it you receive the following: $ mc-find-hosts /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/mcollective.rb:1:in `require': no such file to load -- rubygems (LoadError) from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/mcollective.rb:1 from /usr/sbin/mc-find-hosts:3:in `require' from /usr/sbin/mc-find-hosts:3 I believe mcollective-middleware also needs to depend on rubygems, because the above error was replaced with silence after installing rubygems. Once I restarted the mcollective service, silence was replaced with the correct functionality. Please let me know if you need more information. [Bug 894047] Re: Fansensor unavailable under Ubuntu 11.10 on Intel Corporation Mobile 945GME Express
Sensors-detect _ # sensors-detect revision 5946 (2011-03-23 11:54:44 +0100) # System: ASUSTeK Computer INC. 1005HA (laptop) This program will help you determine which kernel modules you need to load to use lm_sensors most effectively. It is generally safe and recommended to accept the default answers to all questions, unless you know what you're doing. Some south bridges, CPUs or memory controllers contain embedded sensors. Do you want to scan for them? This is totally safe. (YES/no): yes Module cpuid loaded successfully. Silicon Integrated Systems SIS5595... No VIA VT82C686 Integrated Sensors... No VIA VT8231 Integrated Sensors...No AMD K8 thermal sensors... No AMD Family 10h thermal sensors... No AMD Family 11h thermal sensors... No AMD Family 12h and 14h thermal sensors... No Intel digital thermal sensor... Success! (driver `coretemp') Intel AMB FB-DIMM thermal sensor... No VIA C7 thermal sensor...No VIA Nano thermal sensor... No Some Super I/O chips contain embedded sensors. We have to write to standard I/O ports to probe them. This is usually safe. Do you want to scan for Super I/O sensors? (YES/no): yes Probing for Super-I/O at 0x2e/0x2f Trying family `National Semiconductor'... No Trying family `SMSC'... No Trying family `VIA/Winbond/Nuvoton/Fintek'... No Trying family `ITE'... No Probing for Super-I/O at 0x4e/0x4f Trying family `National Semiconductor'... No Trying family `SMSC'... No Trying family `VIA/Winbond/Nuvoton/Fintek'... No Trying family `ITE'... No Some hardware monitoring chips are accessible through the ISA I/O ports. We have to write to arbitrary I/O ports to probe them. This is usually safe though. Yes, you do have ISA I/O ports even if you do not have any ISA slots! Do you want to scan the ISA I/O ports? (YES/no): yes Probing for `National Semiconductor LM78' at 0x290... No Probing for `National Semiconductor LM79' at 0x290... No Probing for `Winbond W83781D' at 0x290... No Probing for `Winbond W83782D' at 0x290... No Lastly, we can probe the I2C/SMBus adapters for connected hardware monitoring devices. This is the most risky part, and while it works reasonably well on most systems, it has been reported to cause trouble on some systems. Do you want to probe the I2C/SMBus adapters now? (YES/no): no Now follows a summary of the probes I have just done. Just press ENTER to continue: Driver `coretemp': * Chip `Intel digital thermal sensor' (confidence: 9) To load everything that is needed, add this to /etc/modules: #cut here # Chip drivers coretemp #cut here If you have some drivers built into your kernel, the list above will contain too many modules. Skip the appropriate ones! Do you want to add these lines automatically to /etc/modules? (yes/NO)yes Successful! Monitoring programs won't work until the needed modules are loaded. You may want to run 'service module-init-tools start' to load them. Unloading cpuid... [Bug 607039] Re: NFS4 automount using replicated servers doesn't work
@Steve, this seems actually already to be addressed. Unfortunately in a way that is easy to get wrong. The nfs module would for example be autoloaded when the idmapd gets started. And the /etc/default/nfs-common comments clearly say it should be needed for v4. However one seems to be able to get a mount done without it being set to yes. (Probably running into other issues later). It would be good if there would be a way to get those things right in a simpler way. But I cannot think of a good one right now. Should mount.nfs4 start required daemons? But then that may miss sensible configuration... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to autofs5 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/607039 Title: NFS4 automount using replicated servers doesn't work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/autofs5/+bug/607039/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 894608] [NEW] Implementing a bridge slows 10G network
Public bug reported: Installing bridge-utils and then setting up a bridge in /etc/netwrok/interfaces decimates my netwrok speed. Uninstalling the package and doing a reboot restores the speed. Hardware: I have two identical machines (DELL poweredge R815), each with Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM57711 10-Gigabit PCIe connected via a 10G switch. Each machine runs 4 socket 12 core AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 6174 and 128GB of ram Software: Both machines ar running ubuntu server 10.04 lts Kernels are: Linux whitlam 2.6.32-28-server #55-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jan 10 23:57:16 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux Linux fraser 2.6.32-28-server #55-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jan 10 23:57:16 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux I have installed iperf on both machines. [Bug 894608] Re: Implementing a bridge slows 10G network
** Description changed: Installing bridge-utils and then setting up a bridge in /etc/netwrok/interfaces decimates my netwrok speed. Uninstalling the package and doing a reboot restores the speed. [Bug 607039] Re: NFS4 automount using replicated servers doesn't work
mount.ntfs4 certainly shouldn't start any daemons, but I would expect it to autoload the nfs4 module the same way it previously autoloaded the nfs module. BTW, for 12.04 we always start idmapd automatically; but if using autofs, it's still not guaranteed that idmapd will have started before autofs starts.
