[Bug 875440] Re: Cannot authenticate with saslauthd and mysql
Hi Quanah I'm a little bit confused - the links you posted relate to the behavior if you've got no auxprop plugins available - they deal with a decent fallback behavior.. But I think this is another problem - we all have auxprop plugins available (and want to use them), but they don't seem to work anymore.. that's the problem we're trying to fix - or am I missing the point? ;-) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to cyrus-sasl2 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/875440 Title: Cannot authenticate with saslauthd and mysql To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cyrus-sasl2/+bug/875440/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 875440] Re: Cannot authenticate with saslauthd and mysql
I could resolve the issue in my particular setup.. Not with new packages (I'm still having installed the latest oneiric packages), just with configuration changes. In my case it's working again.. Just to clarify, I have a Postfix SMTP - Sasl - Mysql setup, and updated from 11.04 to 11.10 - after that I experienced this error. First, I reinstalled libsasl2-modules-sql (don't know if that's necessary).. Then I changed /etc/postfix/sasl/smtpd.conf as follows: root@node:/etc/postfix/sasl# diff -u smtpd.conf~ smtpd.conf --- smtpd.conf~ 2011-11-27 11:06:36.0 +0100 +++ smtpd.conf 2012-01-12 10:07:02.0 +0100 @@ -1,9 +1,10 @@ pwcheck_method: saslauthd -mech_list: plain login +mech_list: plain login pam allow_plaintext: true -auxprop_plugin: mysql +auxprop_plugin: sql +sql_engine: mysql sql_hostnames: 127.0.0.1 sql_user: [REMOVED] sql_passwd: [REMOVED] sql_database: ispconfig -sql_select: select password from mail_user where email = '%u' +sql_select: select password from mail_user where login = '%u@%r' What changed in the upgrade? - The auxprop plugin name changed from mysql to sql (it's generic now) - The new parameter sql_engine needs to be set with your engine (in my case mysql) - The select query has to be changed *maybe* - it seems usernames like j...@example.com are now automatically split up. [Bug 615545] Re: Instances launched in a VPC cannot access ec2.archive.ubuntu.com
Hi Folks, To whoever manages DNS for this repository: a more elegant solution not requiring an package patches would have been to follow this practice for DNS on EC2. Try to use CNAMES to the fully-qualified domain name EC2 instead of A records. For example, at the moment you are using: us-west-1.ec2.archive.ubuntu.com. 600 IN A 10.162.150.127 This address is apparently not routable from the outside world (perhaps to avoid bandwidth charges?) Had you used a routable EC2 Elastic IP, and a CNAME record pointing to the EC2 assigned FQDN, lookup requests by VPC servers would have the public elastic IP returned like this: ;; ANSWER SECTION: us-west-1.ec2.archive.ubuntu.com. 600 IN CNAME ec2-108-20-220-125.compute-1.amazonaws.com. ec2-108-20-220-125.compute-1.amazonaws.com. 300 IN A 108.20.220.125 Lookup requests by VPC servers would have the public elastic IP returned, while instances launched normally in EC2 would receive the private address: ;; ANSWER SECTION: us-west-1.ec2.archive.ubuntu.com. 600 IN CNAME ec2-108-20-220-125.compute-1.amazonaws.com. ec2-108-20-220-125.compute-1.amazonaws.com. 300 IN A 10.252.111.96 I've made these addresses up, of course, and I understand you have multiple servers for each hostname, but we use this method with weighted round robin DNS on EC2 as well and it works as in the example above. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to cloud-init in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/615545 Title: Instances launched in a VPC cannot access ec2.archive.ubuntu.com To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-init/+bug/615545/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 615545] Re: Instances launched in a VPC cannot access ec2.archive.ubuntu.com
+1 for cloudcontrol's recommendation to use CNAMEs. I've been recommending this to Canonical since we were discussing the initial setup of EC2 dedicated repositories. It would have avoided a couple issues that have happened since and would help prevent future problems as AWS releases new features. Amazon has also recommended this.

[Bug 876387] Re: fuser forking uncontrollably in cron job
Don't know if it's related but since having tempered with /etc/cron.d/php5 (see the workaround Graham described) I (as root) regularly receive the following mail: Subject: Cron root@lvps176-28-19-116 test -x /usr/sbin/anacron || ( cd / run-parts --report /etc/cron.daily ) (failed) Message: Unable to run /etc/cron.daily/standard because lockfile /var/lock/cron.daily acquisition failed. This probably means that the previous day's instance is still running. Please check and correct if necessary. lockfile creation failed: cannot create temporary lockfile run-parts: /etc/cron.daily/standard exited with return code 1 Taking a look at /var brought: root@lvps:/home/simon# ls -l /var | grep lock lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 2011-12-27 22:27 lock - /run/lock …whereas /run/lock didn't even exist.
