[Bug 875440] Re: Cannot authenticate with saslauthd and mysql

2012-01-12 Thread Dario Nuevo
Hi Quanah

I'm a little bit confused - the links you posted relate to the behavior
if you've got no auxprop plugins available - they deal with a decent
fallback behavior..

But I think this is another problem - we all have auxprop plugins
available (and want to use them), but they don't seem to work anymore..
that's the problem we're trying to fix - or am I missing the point? ;-)

[Bug 915167] Re: package python-beautifulsoup 3.2.0-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-01-12 Thread Stefano Rivera
Reassigning to python-defaults, as it's a bug in pycompile. From python-
defaults' changelog, it looks like this bug was fixed in 2.6.6-11:

   * pycompile:
 - --exclude now works with private dirs
 - use /usr/bin/pythonX.Y rather than pythonX.Y (to avoid /usr/local
   interpreters)

natty's python-defaults was based on 2.6.6-6.

** Package changed: beautifulsoup (Ubuntu) = python-defaults (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: python-defaults (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Fix Released

** Summary changed:

- package python-beautifulsoup 3.2.0-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess
installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
+ pycompile will use /usr/local/bin/python2.6 if available and python2.6 isn't
installed.

[Bug 875440] Re: Cannot authenticate with saslauthd and mysql

2012-01-12 Thread Dario Nuevo
I could resolve the issue in my particular setup.. Not with new packages
(I'm still having installed the latest oneiric packages), just with
configuration changes. In my case it's working again..

Just to clarify, I have a Postfix SMTP - Sasl - Mysql setup, and
updated from 11.04 to 11.10 - after that I experienced this error.

First, I reinstalled libsasl2-modules-sql (don't know if that's
necessary)..

Then I changed /etc/postfix/sasl/smtpd.conf as follows:

root@node:/etc/postfix/sasl# diff -u smtpd.conf~ smtpd.conf
--- smtpd.conf~ 2011-11-27 11:06:36.0 +0100
+++ smtpd.conf  2012-01-12 10:07:02.0 +0100
@@ -1,9 +1,10 @@
 pwcheck_method: saslauthd
-mech_list: plain login
+mech_list: plain login pam

-auxprop_plugin: mysql

 sql_passwd: [REMOVED]
 sql_database: ispconfig
-sql_select: select password from mail_user where email = '%u'
+sql_select: select password from mail_user where login = '%u@%r'

What changed in the upgrade?
- The auxprop plugin name changed from mysql to sql (it's generic now)
- The new parameter sql_engine needs to be set with your engine (in my case
mysql)
- The select query has to be changed *maybe* - it seems usernames like
j...@example.com are now automatically split up. Before this version %u
contained the whole username, now the part after @ in the username is defined
in %r

So maybe the creator of this bug and other people like me just forgot to
make the appropiate changes in the smtpd.conf?

Or maybe - again - I'm missing the point of this bug. But it seems you
*can* have mysql based smtp auth with the current oneiric packages -
it's working in my case..

2012-01-12 Thread Robert Kopaczewski
Thanks Dario, this works nice for me as well.
But this shouldn't really be required. It is either broken or backwards
incompatible with some config syntax. Either way, it should either be fixed or
alert you about incompatibility.

[Blueprint servercloud-p-hdp-hadoop] Ubuntu Server HDP Hadoop

2012-01-12 Thread Chris Johnston
Blueprint changed by Chris Johnston:

Whiteboard changed:
  Target versions of Hadoop components:

  hadoop-0.20.205.0
  hcatalog-0.2.0
  pig-0.9.0
  hbase-0.90.4
hive-0.7.1 # the script I got from Hortonworks labels this as hive-0.7.1+
which includes fixes to hive. - Yes - we might need to look at that - we should
be able to overlay the fixes if need be without rebuilding the entire project
  zookeeper-3.3.2
Q: Their website indicates they will use ambari as something
devops/juju-like. Clearly we want to use juju but have they made any ambari
assumptions?
A: No idea - one to ask Matt

  Package naming:

  hdp-hadoop
  hdp-hcatalog
  hdp-pig
  hdp-hbase
  hdp-hive
  hdp-zookeeper
  * The hdp prefix comes from Hortonworks terminology: Hortonworks Data
Platform (though they are obviously reinforcing connectedness to hadoop itself.)

  Assumptions:

Packaging will use bigtop as a base.
- - reuse of control file structure will help support bigtop packages in juju
charms as and when they support precise.
+  - reuse of control file structure will help support bigtop packages in juju
charms as and when they support precise.
Java will NOT be rebuilt during the package build process.
Native libraries will be rebuilt during the package build process.
Q: What does this mean for the hive embedded in hcatalog (via
hcatalog-0.2.0/hive/external)? I'm guessing we just use the hdp-hive package we
create.
Patches may be required for native build components.
Debconf configuration in packages is useful for Juju charms and should be
applied where appropriate.
--- Debconf currently in use: namenode, jobtracker and hdfs_dir
Binary distributions will be used from upstream (no source build by default).
Q: Exactly what does this mean in this context? Binary distributions of ...
Are these the jar files inside the hortonworks/apache source (e.g.
./hive-0.7.1+/lib/javaewah-0.3.jar?
A: So most of the apache projects ship a binary distribution tarball which
includes all of the compile Java etc so we should not build from source - just
re-use these jars etc...

  Challenges:

hcatalog not packaged in bigtop trunk (need to check branches)
  JAVA_HOME and use of openjdk-6/7? JAVA_HOME detection - bigtop use a
specific package for this (bigtop-utils) which tries to guess - might be worth
re-using.
java-package as recommended approach to re-packaging Oracle java for Ubuntu
(generates Debian packaging from upstream binary distro).
Kerberos security - probably actually needs to be a charm configuration
option to secure a cluster.
Q: For Kerberos, do we have the necessary dependencies to get this done? If
so, I can do the charm work.j
Q: Re: Kerberos. We may need to really look into this as this will end up
affecting not only hadoop but, all of the other parts ( hive, pig, etc. ) as
well. This can really complicate the packaging/charming as well so, we may not
have time to get it all done in this cycle. Just my thoughts.
MultiArch native libraries in hdp-hadoop package - should not must.
Hive contains patches for hcatalog support - we need to work these in somehow
(maybe a overlay to the binary re-distribution).

  hcatalog:
External dependency on mysql-connector? and maybe mysql?
No binary distribution - only source so will need to be built locally to
produce release tarbal.

[Blueprint servercloud-p-hdp-hadoop] Ubuntu Server HDP Hadoop

2012-01-12 Thread Chris Johnston
Blueprint changed by Chris Johnston:

Whiteboard changed:
  Target versions of Hadoop components:

  hadoop-0.20.205.0
  hcatalog-0.2.0
  pig-0.9.0
  hbase-0.90.4
hive-0.7.1 # the script I got from Hortonworks labels this as hive-0.7.1+
which includes fixes to hive. - Yes - we might need to look at that - we should
be able to overlay the fixes if need be without rebuilding the entire project
  zookeeper-3.3.2
Q: Their website indicates they will use ambari as something
devops/juju-like. Clearly we want to use juju but have they made any ambari
assumptions?
A: No idea - one to ask Matt

  Package naming:

  hdp-hadoop
  hdp-hcatalog
  hdp-pig
  hdp-hbase
  hdp-hive
  hdp-zookeeper
  * The hdp prefix comes from Hortonworks terminology: Hortonworks Data
Platform (though they are obviously reinforcing connectedness to hadoop itself.)

  Assumptions:

Packaging will use bigtop as a base.
   - reuse of control file structure will help support bigtop packages in juju
charms as and when they support precise.

[Bug 615545] Re: Instances launched in a VPC cannot access ec2.archive.ubuntu.com

2012-01-12 Thread cloudcontrol
Hi Folks,

To whoever manages DNS for this repository: a more elegant solution not
requiring an package patches would have been to follow this practice for
DNS on EC2.

Try to use CNAMES to the fully-qualified domain name EC2 instead of A
records. For example, at the moment you are using:

us-west-1.ec2.archive.ubuntu.com. 600 IN A 10.162.150.127

This address is apparently not routable from the outside world (perhaps
to avoid bandwidth charges?)

Had you used a routable EC2 Elastic IP, and a CNAME record pointing to
the EC2 assigned FQDN, lookup requests by VPC servers would have the
public elastic IP returned like this:

;; ANSWER SECTION:
us-west-1.ec2.archive.ubuntu.com. 600 IN CNAME
ec2-108-20-220-125.compute-1.amazonaws.com.
ec2-108-20-220-125.compute-1.amazonaws.com. 300 IN A 108.20.220.125

Lookup requests by VPC servers would have the public elastic IP
returned, while instances launched normally in EC2 would receive the
private  address:

;; ANSWER SECTION:
us-west-1.ec2.archive.ubuntu.com. 600 IN CNAME
ec2-108-20-220-125.compute-1.amazonaws.com.
ec2-108-20-220-125.compute-1.amazonaws.com. 300 IN A 10.252.111.96

I've made these addresses up, of course, and I understand you have
multiple servers for each hostname, but we use this method with
weighted round robin DNS on EC2 as well and it works as in the example
above.

[Bug 615545] Re: Instances launched in a VPC cannot access ec2.archive.ubuntu.com

2012-01-12 Thread Eric Hammond
+1 for cloudcontrol's recommendation to use CNAMEs. I've been
recommending this to Canonical since we were discussing the initial
setup of EC2 dedicated repositories. It would have avoided a couple
issues that have happened since and would help prevent future problems
as AWS releases new features. Amazon has also recommended this.

[Bug 876387] Re: fuser forking uncontrollably in cron job

2012-01-12 Thread Simon Hirscher
Don't know if it's related but since having tempered with
/etc/cron.d/php5 (see the workaround Graham described) I (as root)
regularly receive the following mail:

Subject: Cron root@lvps176-28-19-116 test -x /usr/sbin/anacron || ( cd /
run-parts --report /etc/cron.daily ) (failed)
Message:
Unable to run /etc/cron.daily/standard because lockfile /var/lock/cron.daily
acquisition failed. This probably means that the previous day's
instance is still running. Please check and correct if necessary.

lockfile creation failed: cannot create temporary lockfile
run-parts: /etc/cron.daily/standard exited with return code 1

Taking a look at /var brought:

root@lvps:/home/simon# ls -l /var | grep lock
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 2011-12-27 22:27 lock - /run/lock

…whereas /run/lock didn't even exist. So I (re-)created the directory.
Let's whether this fixes it.

Can anyone confirm this?
