[Bug 909828] Re: Tomcat needs update to prevent hash function DoS attack

2012-02-07 Thread James Page
Testing completed in oneiric:

Installed tomcat6
Installed jenkins-tomcat
Installed solr-tomcat

Verified that both jenkins and solr where functional on current
published packages.

Added -proposed and upgraded to version of tomcat6 in -proposed.

Revalidated that both jenkins and solr where still functional - all
looked OK to me.

solr is quite intensive on use of parameters so felt like a reasonable
test case.

[Bug 892747] Re: package slapd 2.4.21-0ubuntu5.6 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-02-07 Thread Sander Smeenk
This affects me too. In a grave way. The package is somewhat unusable
with automated installers and/or puppet/cfengine.

Steps to reproduce:
1) make sure your system has *NO* slapd package installed
2) create /etc/ldap/slapd.conf (contents does not matter)
3) install the slapd package.

Result:
Setting up slapd (2.4.25-1.1ubuntu4.1) ...
Creating initial configuration... mkdir: cannot create directory
`/etc/ldap/slapd.conf': File exists
dpkg: error processing slapd (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

Also, on a sidenote, your postinst script is braindead. Your package
offers a 'no_configuration' debconf setting but then fails to install
the package since slapd wont start as there is no configuration:

# debconf-show slapd
* slapd/no_configuration: true

# apt-get install slapd
[ .. ]
Setting up slapd (2.4.25-1.1ubuntu4.1) ...
  Omitting slapd configuration as requested.
 * No configuration file was found for slapd at /etc/ldap/slapd.conf.
invoke-rc.d: initscript slapd, action "start" failed.
dpkg: error processing slapd (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 slapd
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

[Bug 925511] Re: lxc init script should fail when it ... failed

2012-02-07 Thread Serge Hallyn
@Ritesh,

the dnsmasq for the lxc bridge explicitly binds only lxcbr0. So if that
fails, then your other dnsmasq has already bound all interfaces.

If /etc/init.d/lxc fails to start now, then lxcbr0 never had dhcp
before. If you're not using lxcbr0 for your containers, then you can
simply set USE_LXC_BRIDGE="false" in /etc/default/lxc.

If do want to use lxcbr0, then you should change your other dnsmasq to
not bind all interfaces.

A third alternative, I suppose, would be that you want to use lxcbr0 but
your statically assign addresses to your containers. We could add a
USE_LXC_BRIDGE_DNSMASQ variable to /etc/default/lxc to support that use
case. If that is what you want, please open a new bug against lxc and
I'll add it.

if this error is related to the problem tracked by this bug thread.

[Bug 884950] Re: Eucalyptus Database hangs

2012-02-07 Thread Leonardo Borda
Workaround is to increase memory java heap size to a higher number.

1. vi /etc/init/eucalyptus.conf
change
from:
[ -n "$JVM_MEM" ] || JVM_MEM="512m"
to:
[ -n "$JVM_MEM" ] || JVM_MEM="8192m"

2. save the file

3. restart eucalyptus-cloud service
sudo service eucalyptus-cloud stop
sudo service eucalyptus-cloud start

PS: Check using ps if the eucalyptus-cloud service is using 8192m. like the
example below
eg. -eucalyptus-clou,1324 -h / -u eucalyptus --pidfile
/var/run/eucalyptus/eucalyptus.pid -l DEBUG -L console-log -Xmx8192m

Re: [Bug 925511] Re: lxc init script should fail when it ... failed

Yes. Because I had dnsmasq installed by default. From the dnsmasq.conf
file's documentation, it says:

# On systems which support it, dnsmasq binds the wildcard address,
# even when it is listening on only some interfaces. It then discards
# requests that it shouldn't reply to. This has the advantage of
# working even when interfaces come and go and change address. If you
# want dnsmasq to really bind only the interfaces it is listening on,
# uncomment this option. About the only time you may need this is when
# running another nameserver on the same machine.
#bind-interfaces

So any machine, where dnsmasq is installed, will bind to all the
interfaces. This is the _default_ behavior, as installed.

libvirt was doing something similar.
http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-libvirt/libvirt.git;a=blob;f=debian/README.Debian;h=6248662c56111c4ec4a5b2c0887059ddfb5fdda6;hb=HEAD

They bind dnsmasq to the loopback interface. Since LXC's bridge also has
similar purpose, it could try to do similar things.

I haven't started using it yet. So I'm not sure how it has been behaving
up till now.

Yes. But would you want this to be a default?

Or actually, just adding a similar documentation into LXC's
README.Debian will also suffice. No?

[Bug 913883] Re: [MIR] zookeeper, netty, log4cxx

2012-02-07 Thread Michael Terry
log4cxx needs either a symbols file or a "-V" argument with no parameter
to dh_makeshlibs to tighten reverse dependencies. Since this is a C++
library, I'd recommend the "-V" approach.

It also has a test suite that isn't enabled. Adding "dh_auto_test" to
it's build target runs it, but it has 3 test failures that should be
examined.

I'd also like to see a bug subscriber for it, but that's not a blocker.
Debian maintenance is very light, but the bug list isn't bad.

Netty seems fine. Simple packaging, no bugs, almost in sync with
Debian. Even has a bug subscriber. :)

When I built it in a pbuilder though, it pulled in libslf4j-java from
universe. Seems like that needs to be added to this MIR?

2012-02-07 Thread Michael Terry
Just noticed your previous comments about log4cxx's test suite being
unmaintained and not suitable for automated running. A bummer. Is it
difficult to fix? If those 3 failures can be easily patched to success,
that would be a big win. Else, don't worry about it.

And of course the -V issue remains.

[Bug 928524] [NEW] lxcbr0 fails to come up when dnsmasq is installed

2012-02-07 Thread Serge Hallyn
Public bug reported:

If dnsmasq is installed and running as default, it will bind all
interfaces. As a result lxc can't run dnsmasq against lxcbr0 (and same
with libvirt and virbr0).

At the least this should be documented in lxc. Preferably we'd find a
way to have dnsmasq be less of a bully.

[Bug 925511] Re: lxc init script should fail when it ... failed

2012-02-07 Thread Serge Hallyn
@Ritesh,

Unfortunately I don't know that that many people would read the README :)
It is worth adding though, thanks for the suggestion.

In addition, I will add an LXC section to the ubuntu server guide soon,
and this should be mentioned there.

I'm also marking this (and the equivalent libvirt) bugs as affecting
dnsmasq. Perhaps we can do something to its default configuration to be
less belligerant. Maybe even just an explicit
'--except-interface=virbr0,lxcbr0', though hard-coding that seems a bit
ugly.

[Bug 928550] Re: PHP Comparison Issues ... 0 equates to 'D'

2012-02-07 Thread Steve Beattie
Thanks for taking the time to report this issue and help improve Ubuntu.
While from a programmer's perspective, it's unexpected behavior;
however, it is correct as documented at:

  http://php.net/manual/en/language.operators.comparison.php

What's happening is that when comparing a string to a number, php is
converting the string (in this case 'D') to a number. Because 'D' isn't
a (base 10) number, it treats it as the number 0. And thus 0 == 0
returns true.

Please feel free to report any additional issues you come across. Thanks
again!

[Bug 900620] Re: Possible Bug: php5-fpm does not listen on a socket by default

2012-02-07 Thread Clint Byrum
Thomas, you've done everything right, and I appreciate your patience.

I want to make sure that the Debian PHP maintainers are on board with
this change.. as this isn't something we'd want to have work differently
than Debian, even if it is "better".

I've forwarded your patch.. and tagged the bug so hopefully it will get
a look soon. I won't necessarily wait for this to land in Debian, as
we're up against feature freeze next week, but I do want to see a
response at least.

Since we need to wait for a response from Debian, I'm unsubscribing
ubuntu-sponsors now. If for some reason I miss their response, please
feel free to comment back here and re-subscribe ubuntu-sponsors.
