[Bug 938078] Re: Problems with mod_rewrite since updating to 2.2.14-5ubuntu8.8

2012-02-21 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi Howard. I think its more likely that the update actually fixed some
behavior, and exposed something hard to explain. But anything is
possible.

Can you include your RewriteRules, and perhaps a redacted log file that
will help reproduce the issue? Thanks!

Hi erwin, thanks for taking the time to file this bug in Ubuntu!

There should be some clues as to why mysql is failing to start in
/var/log/mysql/error.log. Please look there, or attach it to this bug
and we can analyze it.

Marking Incomplete pending response.

[Bug 932021] Re: service mysql start hangs forever without any messages if the configuration is broken

2012-02-21 Thread Clint Byrum
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 711635 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/711635

Hi luca. Thanks for taking the time to file this bug and help us make
Ubuntu better.

I'm sorry that you experienced this, I can imagine how frustrating it
is.

This is a duplicate of bug #711635 , which I believe I have a fix for
here:

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
branches/ubuntu/precise/mysql-5.5/precise/revision/16

That is for the mysql-5.5 branch, but the patch *should* apply to 5.1 as
well if you change the files to mysql-server-5.1.

Marking duplicate, please comment there unless you feel this is not
actually a duplicate.

[Bug 869684] Re: 530 login incorrect error after upgrade to Oneiric

2012-02-21 Thread Nick McCloud
Last December I setup 10.04 on a machine as a LAMP with vsftpd:

Changed the conf: Removed the anonymous access, enable write access,
chroot users to their home directory & set local_umask to 022

All good.

Do it today (21st Feb 2012) but just Apache, transmission and vsftpd,
change the conf as above, no dice, 530 error.

After some hacking about I get bored, uninstall, reinstall and bingo, it
all works.

Looking at what flashed before me post install, the ftp group may not
have been configured correctly the first time round.

I'm a bit noob to be of much use but I can confirm that this issue does
exist.

  Notes:
qemu-kvm librados builds are blocked on bug 932898 being fix released.

No formal spec needed IMO, this is just a pile of straight forward
  actions.

   * gceph is not reasonable to be in main (upstream doesnt want to
  support)

Today rbd is loaded loaded at runtime

   - MIR librbd and librados for qemu/kvm
    - compile qemu-kvm with ceph (rbd, rados) block device support, see:
   - MIR all of ceph for hosting ceph
   - include latest libvirt rbd support (for rbd authentication)
   - Existing Openstack Support
     - Nova since cactus can use CEPH for block
     - Diablo added glance support for CEPH for image storage
   - Dreamhost using mainline BTRFS and debian kernel for current deployment
  - Dreamhost launching at scale in a few "weeks"
  - CEPH is an independent business unit under Dreamhost
  - Dreamhost using fastcgi + apache for rados gateway (can use nginx, too)

   Dependencies:
   modfast-cgi
  Concerns;
  - Upstream makes a release every 2 weeks
  - No stable release branches upstream
  - Limited deployment outside Dreamhost
  - unencrypted over the wire
    - apps can implement security on top of it
    - IPv6 is supported
  Additional Opportunities:
  - Integrate tightly with OpenStack in packaging
  - Add support for ceph in juju openstack charms
  - BTRFS ideal, XFS also working well, ext4 missing "large xattr" support
  - Upstream asserts that CEPH is under heavy development (cmdline programs
remind user at every execution)
   - in the openstack use case, for kvm, there is no need for kernel code at all
    - if we want to support xen, it would require using the block device kernel
code for rdb
  Support Targets:
  - RBD

[Bug 924002] Re: build system strips binaries, so no debug symbol packages available

2012-02-21 Thread Leonardo Borda
@Adam Stokes,

I've just build dbg packages using the provided patch and it does generate
*some* of the debug packages although the file automount.so is not generated,
which in my case is the target one that I am trying to get dbg messages from.
In anyway thanks for the patch. Would you be able to take a look at why
automount.so is not being generated?

Here is the output of "sudo dpkg --contents

[Bug 938078] [NEW] Problems with mod_rewrite since updating to 2.2.14-5ubuntu8.8

2012-02-21 Thread Howard Davis
Public bug reported:

We have been having intermittent problems with incorrect URLs being
generated on some of our web pages since upgrading to the apache2
version 2.2.14-5ubuntu8.8

The problems seem to occur during periods where the site has higher
traffic levels. The URLs are being generated by the CakePHP route
module which uses mod_rewrite. The generated URLs appear to have text
from several different unrelated URLs all mixed together. For example
when the generated URL should have been:

http://amblingbooks.com/books/category/fiction/adventure

The generated URL instead ended up as

http://amblingbooks.com/index.php/Pira/books/view/media/media/image
/4c9ae47d-b3cc-

-494c-a95b-7feec0a89265/resize:width|71;height|130/adventure

which somehow has text from several other URLs mixed into it.

We have been tracking this problem for several days now. We are seeing
the problem intermittently, sometimes the URLs generate correctly and
other times they do not. Our investigation so far is suggesting that
these problems started happening when we picked up the upgrade to
apache2 version 2.2.14-5ubuntu8.8 which includes a change in the
mod_rewrite logic.

Is it possible that the recent mod_rewrite change has introduced an
issue with a buffer not being initialized properly and using old
incorrect data from the uninitialized buffer when generating the URL, or
introduced an SMP window where during heavy traffic levels with multiple
threads concurrently executing the mod_rewrite logic it somehow allows
incorrect URLs to be generated?

Our server is running Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS

[Bug 937941] [NEW] Upstream have withdrawn 2.7.10 due to several regressions

2012-02-21 Thread James Troup
Public bug reported:

Upstream have withdrawn 2.7.10:

  https://groups.google.com/group/puppet-users/msg/8c3e8487a4599e9a

I can't speak to the other regressions, but we're definitely seeing
this particular bug after upgrading our infrastructure to 2.7.10:

 http://projects.puppetlabs.com/issues/show/12310

It'd be good if we could not ship precise with 2.7.10.

[Bug 937987] [NEW] squid is loosing cache data when restarting

2012-02-21 Thread Cinquero
Public bug reported:

Serving requests cached in memory works fine. However, after restarting
squid, all data is lost. Disk cache size is large enough.

store_swap_size look strange either. Number of entries should be around
750, but is displayed as 29.

[Blueprint servercloud-p-hdp-hadoop] Ubuntu Server - Hadoop

2012-02-21 Thread James Page
Blueprint changed by James Page:

Whiteboard changed:
  Status 20122501

Dev packages avaliable for hadoop, hive, pig, hbase and hadoop-zookeeper
  in http://launchpad.net/~hadoop-ubuntu/+archive/dev

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hadoop-ubuntu/dev

  Target versions of Hadoop components:

  hadoop-0.20.205.0
  hcatalog-0.2.0
  pig-0.9.0 (0.9.1)
  hbase-0.90.4
hive-0.7.1 (? 0.8.1 is out and should be compatible with hcatalog 0.2.0)
  zookeeper-3.3.2 (3.3.4)

Q: Their website indicates they will use ambari as something
devops/juju-like. Clearly we want to use juju but have they made any ambari
assumptions?
A: No idea - one to ask Matt

  Package naming:

  hadoop
  hcatalog
  pig
  hbase
  hive

Packages that target partner CANNOT have the same name as packages in
the main archive so zookeeper will be:

  hadoop-zookeeper

This will prevent and conflicts with the zookeeper package in the main
  archive.

  Assumptions:

Packaging will use bigtop as a base.
   - reuse of control file structure will help support bigtop packages in juju
charms as and when they support precise.
Java will NOT be rebuilt during the package build process.
Native libraries will be rebuilt during the package build process.
Q: What does this mean for the hive embedded in hcatalog (via
hcatalog-0.2.0/hive/external)? I'm guessing we just use the hdp-hive package we
create.
Patches may be required for native build components.
Debconf configuration in packages is useful for Juju charms and should be
applied where appropriate.
--- Debconf currently in use: namenode, jobtracker and hdfs_dir
Binary distributions will be used from upstream (no source build by default).
Q: Exactly what does this mean in this context? Binary distributions of ...
Are these the jar files inside the hortonworks/apache source (e.g.
./hive-0.7.1+/lib/javaewah-0.3.jar?
A: So most of the apache projects ship a binary distribution tarball which
includes all of the compile Java etc so we should not build from source - just
re-use these jars etc...

  Challenges:

hcatalog not packaged in bigtop trunk (need to check branches)
  JAVA_HOME and use of openjdk-6/7? JAVA_HOME detection - bigtop use a
specific package for this (bigtop-utils) which tries to guess - might be worth
re-using.
java-package as recommended approach to re-packaging Oracle java for Ubuntu
(generates Debian packaging from upstream binary distro).
Kerberos security - probably actually needs to be a charm configuration
option to secure a cluster.
Q: For Kerberos, do we have the necessary dependencies to get this done? If
so, I can do the charm work.j
Q: Re: Kerberos. We may need to really look into this as this will end up
affecting not only hadoop but, all of the other parts ( hive, pig, etc. ) as
well. This can really complicate the packaging/charming as well so, we may not
have time to get it all done in this cycle. Just my thoughts.
MultiArch native libraries in hdp-hadoop package - should not must.
Hive contains patches for hcatalog support - we need to work these in somehow
(maybe a overlay to the binary re-distribution).

  hcatalog:
External dependency on mysql-connector? and maybe mysql?
No binary distribution - only source so will need to be built locally to
produce release tarbal.

[Bug 610557] Re: NFS Client Not Properly Unmounted on Halt/Reboot

2012-02-21 Thread Sebastian Schweizer
I have the same problem with openvpn and cifs.
$ ls -l /etc/rc0.d/ | grep -e umountnfs -e openvpn
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  17 2012-01-15 15:27 K01openvpn -> ../init.d/openvpn
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  22 2012-02-21 12:25 S03umountnfs.sh ->
../init.d/umountnfs.sh

Openvpn stops before my cifs is unmounted and therefore the system does
not shutdown or reboot.

Ubuntu 11.10
initscripts 2.88dsf-13.10ubuntu4.1
openvpn 2.2.0-2ubuntu1
cifs-utils 2:5.0-1ubuntu2

Woraround for me:
Small init-script that umounts my cifs-mount before openvpn is stopped.
What would be the best change in the openvpn init script to fix the order?

[Blueprint servercloud-p-cfjuju] Juju: Configuration Management for Juju

[clint-fewbar] Start project for recovering useful information out of juju
status ( https://launchpad.net/juju-jitsu ): DONE
[juju] after colocation investigate cli interface for local / arbitrary unit
/ relation info: TODO

  Session notes:

We have detected a need for DSL integration in Juju, this would mean
that any of the current configuration management applications available.

  Advantages
  * Faster implementation of juju on running platforms
  * Faster testing of juju on individual nodes
  * Complements the amazing capabilities of juju with some node specific
templating

  TALKING POINTS
  * What can DSL integration provide to juju
    - How it can complement the juju ecosystem
  * Ways to export through a RESTful interface metadata from Juju
    - Ensure freshfulness statefulness of data
  * Ways to implement this so Juju can action on this without problem
    - Charm integration
    - Ways of informing back to juju about provides from DSL systems
  * Finding ways around the SPOFs
    - How to survive in case of miscommunication or recoverable failure

Juju roadmap right now has priority on colocation
Colocation can be used in colocation mode as well
Colocated service has access to filesystem services (whichever they are) and
can establish master/slave relationships with the master unit
Juju charms can trigger an update of the facter information since it's always
stateful, it can be a "trigger" on the update hook
So far the best action would be to query the CLI (juju status) and its a very
effective way to recover information from juju in a quick (albeit slightly
dirty) way

  ACTIONS
[lynxman] write puppet external node classifier for juju status -> puppet
[clint-fewbar] Start project for recovering useful information out of juju
status
[juju] after colocation investigate cli interface for local / arbitrary unit

[Bug 889423] Re: 802.3ad bonding not configured correctly

2012-02-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package bridge-utils - 1.5-2ubuntu1.1

---
bridge-utils (1.5-2ubuntu1.1) oneiric-proposed; urgency=low

  * debian/bridge-network-interface.sh: If the interface doesn't exist,
then call the vlan hook and check if the interface appears then.
(LP: #889423)
  * Update debian/bridge-network-interface.sh to also work with
bridge-ports (instead of just bridge_ports).

[Bug 889423] Re: 802.3ad bonding not configured correctly

2012-02-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package ifenslave-2.6 - 1.1.0-19ubuntu1.1

---
ifenslave-2.6 (1.1.0-19ubuntu1.1) oneiric-proposed; urgency=low

  * Update ifenslave scripts to work with event based boot (LP: #889423):
- Create the master interface whenever a slave comes online
- Make sure we wait for the master to be completely ready before doing
  any work on the slaves
- Call post-enslaving code every time a slave is added to the master
- Properly destroy the master when it goes down
- Always bring the bond interface up once initialized
- Wait up to a minute for a slave to join the master
- If the bond is tagged, run the udev vlan hook to create
the vlan interfaces once it's ready (has a MAC address)
- If the bond is part of a bridge, run the udev bridge hook to join
it to the bridge once it's ready (has a MAC address)
- Update examples, moving bond0 at the end of /etc/network/interfaces
so that running "ifup -a" won't wait for a minute.
  * Change path to /run

[Bug 889423] Re: 802.3ad bonding not configured correctly

2012-02-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package vlan - 1.9-3ubuntu3.1

---
vlan (1.9-3ubuntu3.1) oneiric-proposed; urgency=low

  * Add a udev trigger similar to bridge-utils' so vlan interfaces are
created when the parent appears (this will then trigger upstart and
ifupdown to configure the newly created vlan interface) (LP: #889423)
