[Bug 625812] Re: Install needs to turn off Reverse Path Filtering

2012-03-30 Thread Eliezer Croitoru
It's not a bug!
most of linux servers are not routers and specially not with bgp that there
there is a big options that a packet will go out using one interface but the
answer will get through another interface\route.
if you are operating a BGP router you should be aware of this issue in linux
distros.
what can be done is to add like "forwarding" option in zebra\vtysh an options
to disable rp_filter using quagga interface.

[Bug 959352] Re: Ephemeral containers have "/rootfs" prefix in /proc/self/maps entries

2012-03-30 Thread Brad Figg
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during
any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all.
Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request
further testing. This is such a request.

We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel
than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test
again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still
exists or not.

You can update to the latest development kernel by simply running the
following commands in a terminal window:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to
Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from
Incomplete to Fix Released.

If you want this bot to quit automatically requesting kernel tests, add
a tag named: bot-stop-nagging.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.

[Bug 969604] Re: lxc-stop should be able to handle ephemeral containers more robustly

2012-03-30 Thread Gary Poster
I agree. I was thinking as I wrote this that we would be awfully close
to being able to get rid of the -- COMMAND stuff if this were
implemented, for instance; and generally close to being able to make
lxc-start-ephemeral behave very similarly to lxc-start in terms of
interaction patterns. Unfortunately I won't be at UDS.

[Bug 802117] Re: juju ssh command should use a different known_hosts file

2012-03-30 Thread Clint Byrum
** Summary changed:

- ensemble ssh command should use a different known_hosts file
+ juju ssh command should use a different known_hosts file

** Description changed:

With lots of instances, one occasionally finds themselves using the same
  twice.

- Ensemble ssh should use a unique known_hosts file per environment, so as
- not to pollute the user's main known_hosts file.
+ juju ssh should use a unique known_hosts file per environment, so as not

[Bug 962373] Re: unhelpful error message when .ssh/known_hosts doesn't match

2012-03-30 Thread Clint Byrum
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 802117 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/802117

Jamie, I don't think we should hide the fact that we're using OpenSSH or
deviate from OpenSSH's error messages on this one. In fact, I think juju
should do more to populate and manage the known_hosts file, since juju
is responsible for those systems' provisioning. This is covered in bug
#802117, which suggests that at the very minimum, each environment
should get its own known_hosts file. I think that would solve the
problem of spurious SSH warnings that you saw. Given that, I am marking
this as a duplicate of that bug.

Submitter: Jenkins
Branch:master

commit a4dd6b6f06d222f49bd0d2582dfe0f2925a1638f

Ensure a functional database connection

Allow retrying database connection in get_engine() at an interval. Resolves
the issue of nova components erroring at startup if a database connection is
unavailable, particularly at boot. Borrowed from a similar commit to glance,
(https://review.openstack.org/#change,5552).

Fixes Bug #959426 for nova.

Update: * Properly return an engine (fixes tests)
* Setting sql_max_retries to -1 will retry infinitely
* Bumped options count in nova.conf.sample
* i18n log warning
* Add note to flag help about -1 == infinite
* Pep8 fix

[Bug 969604] Re: lxc-stop should be able to handle ephemeral containers more robustly

2012-03-30 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks, Gary.

To be honest, I think we should re-visit the goals of lxc-start-
ephemeral at UDS-Q, and rewrite it to be more robust and focused. (Then
we coudl also send the result upstream)

[Bug 969604] [NEW] lxc-stop should be able to handle ephemeral containers more robustly

2012-03-30 Thread Gary Poster
Public bug reported:

It is possible to have an ephemeral container remaining after lxc-start-
ephemeral has been killed--trivially by calling kill -9 on lxc-start-
ephemeral. At that point, the script does not get a chance to clean up
after itself, and the system is left with a running ephemeral container
as well as several mounts.

lxc-stop can stop the container, but after an ephemeral container is
stopped, it ought to be destroyed, and it is not. Moreover, if you then
try to use lxc-destroy, it will fail, because the ephemeral container's
directory is mounted, with another directory mounted inside
(ephemeralbind). Moreover again, if you succeed in umounting those
directories, and then destroying the container, there is still a tmpfs
"/tmp/lxc-lp-XXX" directory (I suspect that "lp" segment of the name
is no longer appropriate, btw) hidden away consuming undefined amounts
amount of memory that would ideally have been removed for the user.

We have a script to handle this possibility in an automated way. Beyond
handling the above, it does one more thing that lxc-stop can't do now:
it finds all of the ephemeral containers via a glob, to allow the
automated script to not have to know what temporary name the ephemeral
container has. An equivalent would be "lxc-stop -n lptests-tmp-*".

It would be nice if lxc-stop could handle properly destroying ephemeral
containers when they are stopped. (Perhaps this could even be a step
along the way to the non-COMMAND version of lxc-start-ephemeral ending
simply with either lxc-start -n $NAME or lxc-start -d -n $NAME.) It
would be even more nice if lxc-stop could handle globs, so we could do
away with our script.

The least obvious aspect of the implementation I see is how to know what
/tmp/lxc-lp-* directory to remove. The best I can come up with is
parsing the output of "mount" to find the tmp directory used as the
"upperdir" for the primary overlayfs. This would be a bit more lines of
code if you wanted to support aufs, but still doable.

If it's not already clear, I personally consider this a low priority
nice-to-have.

Thank you

Some more data here, the following results in postgresql not started on
installation:

$ LC_ALL=en_GB.UTF-8 ssh ubuntu@$HOSTNAME
$  sudo apt-get install postgresql-9.1
...
Adding user postgres to group ssl-cert
Building PostgreSQL dictionaries from installed myspell/hunspell packages...

Error: The locale requested by the environment is invalid.
Error: could not create default cluster. Please create it manually with

  pg_createcluster 9.1 main --start

or a similar command (see 'man pg_createcluster').

If you run 'apt-get install language-pack-en' prior to running the above, it
will work.

It will still fail, though if you do:
 $ LC_ALL=fr_FR.UTF-8 ssh
 $ sudo apt-get install postgresql-9.1
(which would be fixed by 'apt-get install language-pack-fr').

[Bug 569757] Re: NIS upstart dependency broken for lucid

2012-03-30 Thread Jeremy Yoder
I'm having numerous problems installing the -proposed package on Lucid.

Sometimes the upgrade succeeds, sometimes it fails. I haven't been able
to figure out why yet (I think I'm starting from the same state each
time, but maybe there's a file somewhere I'm not considering).

If the package upgrade WORKS:
1) I get the following output:

2) There are several upstart jobs installed in /etc/init: start-ypbind.conf,
yppasswd.conf, ypserv.conf, ypxferd.conf
3) Reverting the package to the older version leaves behind the
/etc/init/*yp*.conf scripts behind

If the package upgrade FAILS:
1) I get the following output:

2) Only one upstart jobs is installed in /etc/init: ypbind.conf

3) When I tell aptitude to revert back to the older NIS package, it
leaves /etc/init/ypbind.conf behind

In BOTH cases, after a server reboot, NIS doesn't come up correctly.

I was able to get it working by installing (so it fails) moving the
ypbind.conf file to /tmp, reverting/installing again (so it succeeds)
and then moving ypbind.conf back to /etc/init. Then after a reboot it
worked.

[Bug 969426] [NEW] Apache fails to shutdown cleanly during update and removes libapache2-mod-php5 in the process, causing service restart to fail due to syntax errors in configuration

--

I have observed this behavior several times over the course of a few
months now.

It seems that any time I update apache2 and related packages, a) Apache
cannot be shutdown cleanly, so all running processes are killed, and b)
libapache2-mod-php5 is removed and never reinstalled. The fact that
libapache2-mod-php5 is never reinstalled causes Apache to fail to start
after the update, due to syntax errors (unrecognized directives) in the
Apache configuration.

The apt-get log transcript follows:

  * This release adds and enables mod_reqtimeout, which limits the time
Apache waits for a client to send a complete request. This helps to
mitigate against certain denial of service attacks. In case of problems
with slow clients, the timeout values can be adjusted in
/etc/apache2/mods-available/reqtimeout.conf , or the module can be
disabled with "a2dismod reqtimeout".

[Bug 969414] Crash report cannot be processed

2012-03-30 Thread Apport retracing service
Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate a useful symbolic stack trace). This
might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:

libssl1.0.0 version 1.0.1-2ubuntu2 required, but 1.0.1-2ubuntu3 is
available

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!

[Bug 859814] Re: Locale issues with beta-1/2 cloud-images

2012-03-30 Thread Ben Howard
So a couple of findings here.

We are doing locales wrong: generating the locales is only part of the
process of localizations. So while Cloud-Init generates the locales, the
images are far from localized. In order to have a localized image, the
base language pack (i.e. language-pack-{en,fr,de,...} needs to be
installed otherwise the base language remains in English. The default
"en_US.UTF8" locale is incomplete in the images since the language pack
is not installed.

Therefore, I think that we should do the following:

1. The images should have the "language-pack-en" installed. Any English
speaker who is exporting variable via SSH will automatically get
localization as long as the localization is standard. Since Ubuntu's
language of collaberation is English, this should fix the vast majority
of users encountering localization problems, unless they are exporting
non-standard chacter sets (i.e. exporting en_GB instead of en_GB.UTF8).

2. Cloud-init will should support the installation of language packs
when it parses "locale: " during the cloud-config section.

3. Cloud-init should have a /etc/profile.d message that tells people if
their locale settings are wrong and how to fix it.

what this bug is addressing; I am happy for an upload which closely
resembles what has been in the PPA to be uploaded. Thanks.

[Bug 969228] Re: Unable to load another apparmor profile from /etc/apparmor.d/lxc/

2012-03-30 Thread Serge Hallyn
If I pull the #include from both container profiles
and put it at top of /etc/apparmor.d/lxc-containers, then it works.

I don't want to lose the ability for users to load just a new container
profile. But as there's on #ifdef I can trigger the #include on,
perhaps it's best to tell users to either /etc/init.d/apparmor reload,
or apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/lxc-containers.
