[Bug 996358] [NEW] juju probably should be using lxcbr0 instead of depending on libvirt-bin and using virbr0

2012-05-07 Thread Stéphane Graber
Public bug reported:

While testing juju, I noticed that its lxc implementation depends on
libvirt-bin just to have virbr0 initialized.
That seems to be a big dependency for something as trivial as creating a bridge
and starting dnsmasq, even more so when lxc itself does that by default.

I think juju should drop all the current libvirt code and simply use
lxcbr0 by default (as it's shipped by default in the lxc package since
12.04), probably allowing the user to select another bridge if they
wish.

[Bug 974938] Re: Process "gsettings" prevents logging in

2012-05-07 Thread Lisa Nelson
OK, put the /etc/X11/Xsession.c/90qt-a11y file back to normal. Then
installed libnss-ldapd (note the d) and restarted. I can logon to the
ldap desktop, but I don't get the background image, and the dock acts
strange.

The dock will launch firefox and terminal, but not my home directory. I
can open links on the desktop to data on the ldap server, and they open
and work fine. I logged off fine and got the lightdm logon screen
again. Hope any of this helps...

[Bug 974938] Re: Process "gsettings" prevents logging in

2012-05-07 Thread Lisa Nelson
I have this same issue. Fresh install of 12.04 today. All updates.
Connecting to a working ldap server.

I found a thread on ubuntu forums, and it said to rem out all the lines
in /etc/X11/Xsession.c/90qt-a11y and install nscd.

By doing that, I can get logged into the ldap server, but don't get my
desktop background.

I've got to get this resolved by next weekend as we are scheduled to
install 18 new Ubuntu 12.04 ldap clients... I'd like to have them work!
The current 11.10 clients are working perfectly.

[Bug 996293] [NEW] Cannot login using active directory users ( Unknown id: $username )

2012-05-07 Thread Justin Jon L. Jereza
Public bug reported:

I'm currently having this issue on Ubuntu 12.04. I've verified that I've
done everything listed in
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ActiveDirectoryWinbindHowto. The
smb.conf configuration I'm using is the same as the one I used in 10.04
(which works) with the exception that idmap config is used in place of
idmap backend/uid/gid.

- wbinfo -u / -g lists all the active directory users / groups just fine.
- getent passwd / group fails at listing active directory users / groups.
- wbinfo -a $username authenticates the user properly.
- wbinfo -i $username fails to display the user info.

I've attached my nsswitch, pam, and samba configuration as well as
test.log which contains a log of the commands I've used to try to
troubleshoot this issue.

I haven't seen anything unusual in the winbind logs.

[Bug 989853] Re: autostart containers must be started after apparmor profiles are loaded

2012-05-07 Thread Serge Hallyn
** Description changed:

  lxc.conf currently does the container autostarts before it loads the
  apparmor profiles. That is wrong. Those must be reversed.

  ==
  SRU Justification
  1. Impact: auto-start containers could be started without apparmor enforcement
  2. Development fix: start auto-start containers after apparmor policy loads
  3. Stable fix: same as development fix
  4. Test case:
-Delay /etc/init.d/apparmor (add a sleep 10 to its start section), and
create an auto-start container. Reboot the system. Check
/proc/pid/attr/current for the container init - if broken, it will be
unconfined rather than lxc-container-default
+    unload apparmor profiles (sudo /etc/init.d/apparmor stop; sudo
/etc/init.d/apparmor teardown;), and create an auto-start container. stop and
restart lxc (sudo stop lxc; sudo start lxc) Check for the running container
(sudo lxc-ls). It will not be running without this fix.
  5. Regression potential: none.

[Bug 993706] Re: Fix lxc-execute without rootfs failing apparmor transitions

2012-05-07 Thread Serge Hallyn
** Description changed:

+ =

by default)
+ 2. development fix: make sure the container's own proc is mounted before
attempting apparmor context transition
+ 3. stable fix: same as development fix

this is done wrong. However, the lxc testsuite passed with these patches

  On a Precise system, LXC is no longer working:

  # lxc-execute -n foo /bin/bash
  lxc-execute: Permission denied - failed to change apparmor profile to
lxc-container-default
  lxc-execute: invalid sequence number 1. expected 2
  lxc-execute: failed to spawn 'foo'

  At a minimum, I'm guessing lxc-execute needs a profile similar to lxc-
  start, but trying to run lxc-start failed with the same error.

[Bug 996233] [NEW] nova and python-novaclient disagree on volumes API URLs

Public bug reported:

I noticed the following (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on the Nova cluster, Ubuntu

as follows, using "GET /v1.1/pjdc_project/os-volumes/detail", a
sensible-looking chunk of JSON is returned:

[Bug 989853] Re: autostart containers must be started after apparmor profiles are loaded

2012-05-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package lxc - 0.8.0~rc1-4ubuntu5

---
lxc (0.8.0~rc1-4ubuntu5) quantal; urgency=low

  * 0082-umount-old-proc: fix proc auto-mount. If /proc is already mounted,
make sure that /proc/self points to 1, since we are container init.
Otherwise, assume proc is an old one, and umount it and remount our own.
If we keep the old proc mounted, apparmor transitions will by tried for
wrong task and fail. Also move check for whether apparmor is enabled so
that it is called by lxc-execute. (LP: #993706)
  * update 0074-lxc-execute-find-init to look for lxc-init in
LXCINITDIR/lxc/lxc-init
  * debian/control: add cloud-utils to lxc Recommends, as lxc-ubuntu-cloud
needs it.  (LP: 995361)
  * debian/lxc.upstart: load apparmor profiles before auto-starting containers.
(LP: #989853)
  * pop 06-bash.patch and 0075-lxc-ls-bash. lxc-clone also has bashims, just
stick to using bash until upstream is also converted (so we are safe
against patches).

[Bug 993706] Re: Fix lxc-execute without rootfs failing apparmor transitions

  * debian/control: add cloud-utils to lxc Recommends, as lxc-ubuntu-cloud

[Bug 996088] Re: Bind is not configured correctly on upgrade

2012-05-07 Thread Steve Langasek
LaMont, this is related to bug #933723; we've turned resolvconf
integration off by default, but in the upgrade case it's still on, which
causes problems now that resolvconf is installed by default. Could we
include a one-time upgrade check when upgrading to the version in 12.04
that checks whether the resolvconf debconf question has been seen, and
if it hasn't been (i.e. we're using the automatic default), to turn off
resolvconf integration on upgrade?

[Bug 993794] Re: Precise resolvconf+dnsmasq setup breaks login in some wireless networks

2012-05-07 Thread Scott Moser
I've seen a problem like this before when logging into captive portals.
I could be wrong here but I think this is what the problem is:
 * user logs in once to captive portal, everything works fine
* that included dns redirect from the server to captive portal
* login
* subsequent stuff working fine
 * Then, the user suspends and attempts to re-connect.
  * They try to go to some web location in firefox (or browser) which does a
dns lookup, which *would* be redirected to the captive portal login. However,
this time, resolvconf/dnsmasq has the right result cached and serves it. So
instead of going to the captive portal login, the user can't do anything.

There may be one other step involved in this, possibly due to a
redirect, but I think the issue is caching by dnsmasq.

[Bug 522509] Re: [FFE] tftpd-hpa doesn't start on boot

2012-05-07 Thread Diego Morales
Hello Allen,

As you may already know, the tftpd-hpa daemon is started on boot by the
upstart system, as configured in the file /etc/init/tftpd-hpa.conf.
This file contains a line beggining with "start on", which gives the
*condition* in which upstart will start the daemon (by running the
script that is defined in the same file).

The error message "cannot resolve local IPv4 bind address: 0.0.0.0, Name
or service not known" tells us that there is no configured IP address
when tftpd is started.

In my case, that happened because of the NIC bonding (multiple physical
NICs configured as one logical NIC) configuration. The original "start
on" condition (on lucid) is "start on (filesystem and net-device-up
IFACE!=lo)". So when bondX gets up, that condition is satisfied, tftpd
starts, but all the physical interfaces which are part of bondX are not
ready yet, which gives the error, and makes tftpd exit. I changed the
condition (in a non-generic, not even good way) so tftpd gets started
later. It worked

Do you use nic bonding too?

I've just checked now that in Precise they changed the condition to
"start on runlevel [2345]". I guess that should work even with bonding,
don't remember if I tried that... Could it be another network
configuration problem in your setup, maybe?

[Bug 995984] [NEW] check_ssh incorrectly refusing -6 switch even though Usage announces it

2012-05-07 Thread Kilian Krause
Public bug reported:

When trying to run check_ssh on 12.04 against a dual stack DNS record
the outcome is the following:

$ check_ssh hostname
SSH OK - OpenSSH_5.9p1 Debian-5ubuntu1 (protocol 2.0)
$ check_ssh -4 hostname
SSH OK - OpenSSH_5.9p1 Debian-5ubuntu1 (protocol 2.0)
$ check_ssh -6 hostname
Usage:
check_ssh [-46] [-t ] [-r ] [-p ]
$

This works ok on 10.04 LTS and obviously got broken somewhere in between
10.04 and 12.04.

[Bug 995956] [NEW] cgconfig upstart job should start earlier and mount all available cgroup types by default

2012-05-07 Thread urusha
Public bug reported:

ubuntu 12.04 LTS, amd64
cgroup-bin 0.37.1-1ubuntu10

1. cgconfig upstart job should start earlier.
/etc/init/cgconfig.conf contains this:
  start on runlevel [2345]
but should contain this (like cgroup-lite.conf does)
  start on mounted MOUNTPOINT=/sys

Why it's needed? Imagine, I want cupsd to start with memory limit (cgroup
called daemon-cups). To do this I edited configs:
/etc/cgconfig.conf
group daemon-cups {
memory {
memory.limit_in_bytes = 50M;
}
}

 /etc/cgrules.conf
   root:/usr/sbin/cupsd memory  daemon-cups

Now, after computer rebooted, I can see that daemon-cups cgroup is created but
cupsd isn't in daemon-cups cgroup tasks. It appears there only after:
  service cups restart

That's because cups service started earlier than cgred service (and cgred
service starts on started cgconfig).
Than imagine what if lxc will somehow start earlier than cgconfig? No, it won't
start at all. So, I think this should be fixed.

2. cgconfig should mount all available cgroup types by default.
Default /etc/cgconfig.conf contains these:
mount {
cpu = /sys/fs//cgroup/cpu;
cpuacct = /sys/fs/cgroup/cpuacct;
devices = /sys/fs/cgroup/devices;
memory = /sys/fs/cgroup/memory;
freezer = /sys/fs/cgroup/freezer;
}

What if I want to use LXC on the same machine and one container's config
contains something like this:
  lxc.cgroup.cpuset.cpus = 1
Container will not start, because this cgroup type is not mounted by default
with cgroup-bin package.
I think, the best way to fix this is to mount available cgroup fsystems via
upstart job (the way cgroup-lite does it). Another way is to change default
/etc/cgconfig.conf (add mountpoints). But I would prefer the first solution
(it's kernel independent).

3. After all these I'm asking you what is the reason of separation
cgroup-bin and cgroup-lite into different packages. Why not to just
disable cgrulesengd, cgconfigparser by default (using /etc/default
somehow)? For example, if I'm using LXC, I will likely be using
cgget/cgset or something. And even if won't be using it what's wrong
with that these binaries are in my /usr/bin (100Kb)?

P.S.  cgconfig.conf : cpu = /sys/fs//cgroup/cpu; I believe double
slashes isn't needed here.

Thanks, hope it'll be fixed in LTS.

Hi

I have the same problem with Precise (tftpd-hpa version 5.2-1ubuntu1).
It seems exactly the same as #23 above.

status tftpd-hpa saying running when it definately isn't.

Diego, I don't really understand the 'change the condition' stuff you
mention. Would you be able to explain in reasonably simple terms how to
work round this problem. I rely on tftpd for routers to back up configs.
Thanks!

[Bug 927540] Re: multipath ignores blacklist in multipath.conf

2012-05-07 Thread gheeke
At the moment i've no Ubuntu 12.04 Testmachine at hand. ASAP I'll try
your suggestions. But I don't think, that this is the problem. My Dell
Controller has the following wwid:

36782bcb070070100166a7a1640a66db2 dm-0 DELL,PERC 6/i
size=136G features='0' hwhandler='0' wp=rw

In the Blacklist that wwid is explicitly listed:

blacklist {
wwid 36782bcb070070100166a7a1640a66db2
...

Although the Controller is still listed.

In the Red Hat Documenation (http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-
US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/DM_Multipath/device_type_blacklist.html)
they use also * as wildcard for multiple matches:

blacklist {
   device {
   vendor  "IBM"
   product "3S42"   #DS4200 Product 10
   }
   device {
   vendor  "HP"
   product "*"

Upgraded to Ubuntu 12.03 to find that squid was replaced by squid3.
Squid has a different config file in /etc/squid3/squid.conf were as the

overwriting squid3's squid.conf and apparently not compatible. :( I have
my old config file still but it is useless to me until I can get the
squid.conf to work with the new squid3. Thanks for breaking my proxy

[Bug 995817] [NEW] share samba doesn't work easily

2012-05-07 Thread J-Paul BERARD
Public bug reported:

Share a folder in a simple domestic network need to check the share item in the
folder properties.
Ubuntu ask to install samba and libpam-smbpass. After reboot and check this
item again, Ubuntu ask to change the permissions.
After this point, it should work ! It would be quite easy.

It doesn't !

2 more things were necessary :
I had to add system-config-samba and add again the share folders.
>From the other computer (with Ubuntu) I must connect with the IP adress to see
>these share folders !

Is it normal ? Thanks !
