[Bug 994779] Re: changing the IP address of the maas server requires a reinstall

2012-05-19 Thread John Kroll
I realize in my case it is a case of the primary dns not wanting to
give up mac address lease of machine. If the maas could initiate a
clean lease with dns at middle to end of available ip addresses it would
be much more desirable.

[Bug 999725] Re: broken start-up dependencies for ntp (starts before NIS is available)

2012-05-19 Thread Paul Crawford
It is probably true that this has not been seen much as a bug due to DNS
normally being available, hence NIS dependency (if present) being a
secondary issue. However, we found that ntp did not recover by itself,
so possibly it only tries to find the nameservers once, but will re-try
for the time servers in ntp.conf

I don't think it is necessary to test for any direct dependency on NIS
in ntp.conf (that could be tricky) but a more robust approach would be
to start (or restart?) ntp if a directory service is started/restarted
just to make sure any such dependency or time-server changes are
resolved. I presume this is the sort of thing Upstart can do.

Incidentally it seems the last post for bug #604717 is spam, is there
any way to get it deleted?

2012-05-19 Thread pakopako
Public bug reported:

Entry-level Ubuntu user, please bear with me. Using Ubuntu's Update Manager,
one of the updates stopped because it could not find the directory
/var/log/clamav when it was trying to touch/create a logfile because my install
of clamav from the Ubuntu Software Center either did not create one or the
system flushes out the /var/log directory upon logout.
In either case, the updater could not find the directory to create the file in
and did not autocreate directory. I will manually create said directory and try
the update again.

[Bug 687635] Re: No easy way to make Samba shares permanent

2012-05-19 Thread Steve Langasek
Not sure why this was assigned to mountall; mountall only parses
/etc/fstab at boot time, it certainly isn't going to be responsible for
writing to it. Reassigning to nautilus, which I guess is what would
have to provide an option to convert gvfs mounts into boot-time mounts
by adding them to the /etc/fstab. (This is probably a bad idea, but I
guess that's a decision for the desktop team.)
