[Bug 978356] Re: squid3 gets killed at startup with dnsmasq and no networkmanager

2012-06-06 Thread Marvin Frederickson
I'm running 12.04 precise 64bit (upgraded from oneric) squid3 (ver
3.1.19) and bind9 and dansguardian. Was working fine until an hour ago
when I apt-get update and apt-get upgrade. Now squid3 is killed by HUP
(so says syslog) and I have to restart squid3 to get everything working.

[Bug 962615] Re: Unable to list volumes after building from snapshot

2012-06-06 Thread kimimaru
Hi,

I tried to replaced the line in
/usr/share/pyshared/nova/db/sqlalchemy/models.py with snapshot_id =
Column(Integer) when I could not list volumes.
After replacing the line, I restarted nova-api then I could list volumes with

But the Status of volumes are always creating if the volumes have been
created with the snapshots.
Do I miss something ?

[Bug 1009419] [NEW] enabling winbind offline logon doesn't authenticate on windows shares

2012-06-06 Thread piviul
Public bug reported:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Release:12.04

$ apt-cache policy winbind
winbind:
  Installato: 2:3.6.3-2ubuntu2.2
  Candidato: 2:3.6.3-2ubuntu2.2

If a machine is joined to a samba3 domain, winbind offline logon is
enabled and a domain user log on the machine I expect than using
nautilus I can access shares that the user has the right without
inserting the password again.

In ubuntu 12.04 that seems to work on samba shares but doesn't work on
accessing windows shares (I've tried on windows xp and windows 2000
shares). When the user access a windows share nautilus ask for username
and password and the authentication using the credential of the current
domain user fails even if the credentials are correct (so authentication
fails both using cached credentials or manual credentials). Using
different domain user credentials all seems to works.

I found no workaround for this bug :((

[Bug 962615] Re: Unable to list volumes after building from snapshot

2012-06-06 Thread Jaroslav Pulchart
No you don't miss anything. The big problem of OpenStack is this - when
some bug/issue happen the DB stuff (not only) is in inconsistent state,
unfortunately OpenStack don't try to fix the inconsistent state.

So you created the volume, but in process of creating task you reach the
bug. So volume was not created and the database include record about
creating :(. Now you have to know the procedure which openstack does
and revert it manually (update DB records, handle iSCSI tasks,)

[Bug 959037] Re: Don't start local resolver if a DNS server is installed

2012-06-06 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
@jdthood: the Standalone dnsmasq is not compatible out of the box with
NM+dnsmasq title hints that the problem is caused by the dnsmasq
package, i.e. that it should be crippled and not listen on lo by
default in order to coexist with the local resolver implementation.

I don't think this is the case, I don't think the dnsmasq package does
anything wrong; I just cross-linked the bug report in case other people
hit the problem and try to find it in the dnsmasq bug page.

The problem should be fixed from the network-manager side.

Otherwise, similar bug reports should be filed against all other DNS
server packages, not just dnsmasq. But I really think that people do
want their DNS servers to listen on lo by default. They wouldn't want
to break that just to help the local resolver implementation.

[Bug 959037] Re: Don't start local resolver if a DNS server is installed

2012-06-06 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Listening on lo is fine; and blocking other DNS servers from being
started isn't. I think we're in violent agreement there. The problem is
how to fix this.

I'm not saying dnsmasq should be crippled, but that it should special-
case lo and not just listen on 0.0.0.0; because that binds to any
further use of port 53, which might not work with any further processes
that might want to legitimately listen on port 53.

That's pretty much how the solution is shaping to be: when listening on
all interfaces, listen on each interfaces separately; binding to the IP
address attached to the interface (or via any other mean). We should
then be able to have dnnsmasq listen on 127.0.1.1:53 to satisfy the need
for a local resolver.

[Bug 1007433] Re: circular dependency causes zookeeperd to not be running after installation of zookeeperd

2012-06-06 Thread James Page
This bug is certainly 'revealed' by the switch of default Java from 6 to
7.

I did a bit of testing around the last few packages needed to support
removal of openjdk-6 from main and if I tweak the dependencies for ca-
certificates-java to runtime depend on openjdk-7-jre-headless everything
starts working OK again.

Although I need to make that change anyway that does not sound like the
correct fix - I should be able to use default-jre-headless which depends
on openjdk-7-jre-headless in the same way that zookeeper does!

[Bug 1003842] Re: dnsmasq sometimes fails to resolve private names in networks with non-equivalent nameservers

2012-06-06 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
As a quick fix, it might be possible to just include the DNS servers
reported by DHCP twice for dnsmasq: once by itself for global
resolution, and once with the search domain from DHCP so that local
network resolution might work. I'll investigate the idea, as that would
likely solve at least half of the problem cases here.

[Bug 1007433] Re: circular dependency causes zookeeperd to not be running after installation of zookeeperd

2012-06-06 Thread James Page
@Clint

With regards to the two other potential bugs in zookeeper:

1) /var/lib/zookeeper should belong to zookeeper

A --no-create-home might help here (or I can make it quiet) - the
permissions get set post user creation so they should be correct at
runtime.

2) the upstart job should be reporting the failure, not 'start/running'

I guess a pre-start check for 'java' might be a good idea - however I
don't think its unreasonable to expect java to be configured prior to
zookeeperd during installation so I'm not sold on the idea.

[Bug 959037] Re: Local resolver prohibits DNS servers from running

2012-06-06 Thread Thomas Hood
I just re-read the whole discussion and thought it would be useful (for
me, at least) to summarize it.

The original bug report was that NM+dnsmasq and standalone dnsmasq are
incompatible because they have overlapping network socket address
ranges, 0.0.0.0:53 and 127.0.0.1:53.

One solution is for the administrator to comment out dns=dnsmasq in
/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf.

Another solution is as described by the submitter's title: [Hey
NetworkManager,] Don't start local resolver if a DNS server is
installed.

Another solution favored by Mathieu is for the NM-enslaved dnsmasq and
the standalone dnsmasq to use disjoint network socket address ranges.

Early on, Mathieu said that solving this problem would not be a top
priority because not many users want to combine the DNS server role
(running bind or dnsmasq) with the DNS client role (running NM+dnsmasq).

Alkis argued that the incompatibility is a serious bug that should be
prevented using package dependencies or eliminated automatically by
maintainer scripts or other means. The administrator shouldn't have to
search the web to figure out how to make the dnsmasq package work.
Troublesome is the fact that standalone dnsmasq sometimes works,
sometimes doesn't, in the presence of NM+dnsmasq.

Along the way Alkis levelled some fundamental criticisms against the
design of NM+dnsmasq.

I think that there is a clash of civilizations here: the Debian way
(modular components that just work together in any combination allowed
by package dependencies) versus the RedHat way (big daemons with limited
options that own subsystems).

[Bug 959037] Re: Local resolver prohibits DNS servers from running

2012-06-06 Thread Thomas Hood
Alkis: Why do you need the dnsmasq package at all? You want NM and
dnsmasq. Why not just use the NM-enslaved dnsmasq?

If the latter doesn't meet your needs, could it be adapted somehow to
meet your needs?

Assuming that there are good reasons for using NM and standalone
dnsmasq, I'd be inclined to agree with Alkis (if I understood him
correctly) that a good solution would be to put the NM-dnsmasq
integration stuff into a package and make this conflict with the
standalone dnsmasq package.

[Bug 972829] Re: maas-server setting requires port even when using http default

2012-06-06 Thread Clint Byrum
** Description changed:

- maas-server must be specified as http://maas.example.com:80/;;
- http://maas.example.com/; is not enough. I would expect to be able to
- omit the port specification when using the scheme's default port.
+ [Test Case]
+ 1. setup MaaS listening on port 80
+ 2. setup a juju environment in ~/.juju/environments.yaml with type: maas and
maas-server: http://yourmaas/;
+ 3. Run juju bootstrap. If affected, an error will be printed due to missing
port. Fixed versions will contact maas on port 80.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ The code change is very small and there are regression tests for the specific
code path so there is very little regression potential, though the maas
provider should be smoke tested to make sure everything still works as expected.
+
+ [Original Description]
+ maas-server must be specified as http://maas.example.com:80/;;
http://maas.example.com/; is not enough. I would expect to be able to omit the
port specification when using the scheme's default port.

[Bug 947617] Re: After update, lxc does not start

2012-06-06 Thread Serge Hallyn
@janevert,

it looks like you have some custom mounting going on. Making a custom
profile would be the best way around it, otherwise disabling apparmor as
you've done obviously works too.

The ubuntu server guide (for 12.04) lxc section shows how to create and
use a custom profile. It also might be worth doing an askubuntu
question to guide more people to the answers.

[Bug 959037] Re: Local resolver prohibits DNS servers from running

2012-06-06 Thread Thomas Hood
Hmm, I wasn't very clear. What I meant in my questions above (#34) was
this. If NM+dnsmasq is the best solution for name service for the local
host, isn't it also a better solution than NM-together-with-standalone-
dnsmasq for remote hosts? If so then another solution approach is to
enhance NM so that its enslaved dnsmasq listens on non-loopback
addresses too. Once this is implemented the network-manager package
could be made to Conflict with the dnsmasq package.

[Bug 959037] Re: Local resolver prohibits DNS servers from running

2012-06-06 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
Thomas, that was a very good summary at comment #33!

Why do you need the dnsmasq package at all? You want NM and dnsmasq.
Why not just use the NM-enslaved dnsmasq?

The NM-enslaved dnsmasq uses hardcoded options (in C) that provide extremely
limited functionality.
 * It doesn't listen on ethX (--listen-address=127.0.0.1). So we can't use our
servers as DNS servers for our local network PCs, i.e. it's completely useless
for LANs.
 * It doesn't cache requests (--cache-size=0). No caching == no DNS queries
speedup. This again is very significant for LANs as there are many concurrent
users.
 * Finally, we also need the DHCP and TFTP functionality of dnsmasq, so even if
NM+dnsmasq included a real DNS server, we'd have to run another dnsmasq
instance (without a DNS service in that case) for its 2 other services.

a good solution would be to put the NM-dnsmasq integration stuff into
a package and make this conflict with the standalone dnsmasq package.

I completely agree, and to also conflict with bind9 and any other DNS
server packages.

I am not going to use this apport automatic bug-reporting thing anymore.
I don't like the fact that it just uploads system files and info without
warning and without providing an option to opt-out or obfuscate certain
information. I am happy to provide information on request. I am not
happy to have it uploaded without me vetting it first.

Thanks for reporting this bug.

I tried to reproduce it on precise, with your exact .cfg, but the build
went fine for me. I did also get the informational messages about
invoke-rc.d, but those appear to be harmless. I believe the bug you're
having is basically the same as bug 879710.

Perhaps the answer there is to always delay umounts until fuser shows
the fs unused.

Interesting - this would also explain bug 879710.

Why would cron be being started? Does vmbuilder need to do a

cat $rootfs/partial-${arch}/usr/sbin/policy-rc.d EOF
#!/bin/sh
exit 101
EOF

(Stolen from the ubuntu lxc template and courtesy of stgraber)?

[Bug 1009291] Re: Samba doesn't start automatically in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

2012-06-06 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for reporting this bug.

You say that only wlan0 is up. Is wlan0 set up to start at boot, or
only at user login? Samba should start as soon as a network interface
other than loopback comes up.

If wlan0 is coming up at boot, then is samba trying to start and
failing, or is it not trying to start? (The smblog.txt unfortunately
doesn't tell me when those failures happened relative to other system
activity)
