[Bug 1006898] Re: [SRU] dnsmasq fails at leasing issues when using vlan mode
> Could this be more safely worked-around in openstack? forgot to comment on this one, well, I am no OpenStack expert, however, OpenStack nova-network relies on dnsmasq for propagating IP addresses via DHCP to their (KVM/...) instances, and OpenStack supports simple networking (w/o VLAN) and VLAN-networking, and thus, I don't see how OpenStack could work around this except using a different software than dnsmasq (something that actually works) - or don't use VLAN at all. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dnsmasq in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1006898 Title: [SRU] dnsmasq fails at leasing issues when using vlan mode To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dnsmasq/+bug/1006898/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1006898] Re: [SRU] dnsmasq fails at leasing issues when using vlan mode
Hey, sorry, with "most" I meant "the documentation recommends using VlanManager" (that is, VLAN mode) for networking. Although, you cannot "rely" on such a behaviour, IMHO, because it absolutely makes no sense to let hosts (that send a DHCPREQUEST) not receive their DHCPACK.

[Bug 980189] Re: [SRU] Database not upgraded while upgrading bacula
Hello Thomas, or anyone else affected, Accepted bacula into precise-proposed. The package will build now and be available in a few hours. Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes the bug for you please change the bug tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not, change the tag to verification-failed. In either case details of your testing will help us make a better decision. [Bug 1006898] Re: [SRU] dnsmasq fails at leasing issues when using vlan mode
This seems like an important bug to fix, but I have reservations about changing dnsmasq's behaviour in a stable update. When you say ‘most installations don't use this type of networking’, what do you mean by ‘most’, is it plausible that someone has relied on this behaviour, and if someone had relied on this behaviour how would this change affect them? [Bug 928524] Re: lxcbr0 fails to come up when dnsmasq is installed
Indeed, that's the only scenario that'd be a problem, but to workaround that issue, I added a mention of /etc/dnsmasq.d/ in /etc/default/lxc which is where you'd disable lxc's own dnsmasq. So in theory anyone disabling LXC's own dnsmasq daemon will see the note that they should also update dnsmasq.d It'd certainly have been better to get that change done pre-release but considering the number of people hitting it, I still think it's worth the risk as an SRU. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dnsmasq in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/928524 Title: lxcbr0 fails to come up when dnsmasq is installed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dnsmasq/+bug/928524/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

@Alan, your container is not allowed to mount /proc because of the apparmor profile. [Bug 928524] Re: lxcbr0 fails to come up when dnsmasq is installed
Hi Stéphane, Changing the default of dnsmasq to bind-interfaces wouldn't have been a very good solution because some people run dnsmasq without installing those other packages and rely upon the "unbound" mode. The implemented solution is better because the cases of dnsmasq being forced into bind- interfaces mode will be fewer. I guess the only risk of breakage is in cases like the following. [Bug 1010602] Re: samba logs are not being reported in logwatch
Jacob, You've got the steps right. The latest development version of Ubuntu (currently Quantal) must be fixed before considering an SRU. But how the development version is fixed is a little subjective. There isn't a specific rule; just the goal of minimising present and future work. The least ideal situation is for Ubuntu to be carrying a patch that neither upstream nor Debian carries. This is possible, but we want to keep the Ubuntu delta small to make future merges easier so we try and avoid it. And sometimes upstream or Debian fixes a problem differently, which causes additional work for us when we switch from our fix to their fix to minimise our delta. Ideally, upstream will fix it, Debian will pick up the fix and we will merge it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to logwatch in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1010602 Title: samba logs are not being reported in logwatch To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/logwatch/+bug/1010602/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

That's correct, though currently when installing dnsmasq with lxc, it has a 50% chance of not starting at all (the other 50% being lxc not starting at all). My initial idea was to set bind-interfaces by default in dnsmasq and SRU that as it's default behaviour is breaking many setups and is extremely annoying. Although I can see some people complaining about bind-interfaces, it's going to improve reliability for currently broken setups and not affect non-broken setups (as we're pushing this change as part of the lxc package, not dnsmasq). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dnsmasq in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/231060 Title: packages dnsmasq and libvirt-bin conflict with each other To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dnsmasq/+bug/231060/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 82853] Re: Add support for the smbk5pwd overlay
So it appears that: Ubuntu is up to date against the corresponding Debian package, and the 12.04 release is also reasonably close. The smbk5pwd overlay is specifically disabled in the Ubuntu build. This is from the changelog: + Don't build smbk5pwd overlay since it uses heimdal instead of krb5: - debian/control: - remove build-dependency on heimdal-dev. - remove slapd-smbk5pwd binary package. - debian/rules: don't build smbk5pwd slapd module. In the past (natty and earlier), heimdal was not in main and openldap was, so this would have required this.
