[Bug 1002997] Re: Tomcat7 package should have jdbc-pool module

2012-07-17 Thread James Page
I've re-enabled the jdbc-pool module for the latest upload to quantal:

tomcat7 (7.0.29-0ubuntu1) quantal; urgency=low

  * Re-sync with Debian unstable.
  * New upstream release:
- Refreshed patches.
  * Enabled Tomcat jdbc-pool module, aligning more closely to upstream and
providing improved multi-threaded performance over commons-dbcp:
- d/rules,d/libtomcat7-java.poms: Install tomcat-dbcp.jar file.
- d/patches/0005-change-default-DBCP-factory-class.patch: Drop patch
which switches the default DBCP factory to commons-dbcp.
- d/NEWS: let users know about this change.

 -- James Page Mon, 16 Jul 2012 15:54:43 +0100

Note that this won't be applied into 12.04 as its to large a change.

[Bug 1022434] Re: sshd server crashes on startup

2012-07-17 Thread Robert John Bowles
Some more experiments following a lead about liblsp.so. This was not (as
I thought) part of the core system, but it belongs to the astrill
package, which provides vpn client software.

It so happens I was given a beta version of the client. On the machine
that mysteriously re-started working with sshd I had removed the beta
clent and re-installed an older version.

To confirm, I uninstalled the beta from the 'bad' box, and immediately
found sshd worked straight away on reboot. I reinstalled the older
version of the Astrill client, and sshd continued to work fine.

The problem, therefore, lies in the astrill package (or at least the
beta version I was given). It is not part of the core Ubuntu system, so
I am marking this bug 'invalid'. I will take up resolution with the
software providers.

[Bug 959037] Re: NM-controlled dnsmasq prevents other DNS servers from starting

2012-07-17 Thread Thomas Hood
Note: the dnsmasq.d file included in the new n-m release includes both
"bind-interfaces" and "except-interface=lo".

This is already a big improvement. It allows standalone dnsmasq to run
on a system with NM and nm-dnsmasq: standalone dnsmasq listens on
interfaces other than lo and forwards queries to nm-dnsmasq at

[Bug 1025595] Re: tomcat7 not running on port 8005 after installation

2012-07-17 Thread James Page
This is actually just a timing issue.

Tomcat7 uses a secure random number generator to seed session ID's
(unlike tomcat6) which takes some time on virtual instances to
initialize (> 30 seconds).

I've increased the pre-test sleep time to 60 seconds to accomodate -
nothing to fix in the package so marking 'Invalid'.

[Bug 911244] Re: [SRU] prompt to change unmodified conf file /etc/cron.d/mailman during upgrade from oneiric to precise

2012-07-17 Thread Adam Conrad
Hello Jean-Baptiste, or anyone else affected,

Accepted mailman into precise-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mailman/1:2.1.14-3ubuntu0.1 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please change the bug tag from
verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not, change the
tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing
will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 858867] Re: XMLRPC allows unauthed users access to various methods (which it shouldn't)

2012-07-17 Thread James Cammarata
In my opinion as the maintainer, this is not a bug and will not be fixed
upstream. Any functions that modify data require a login, and certain
functions (like those performed by koan) require access to the XMLRPC
endpoint without a login or access to the token stored locally for the
CLI. At no point did we say all XMLRPC functions require a login.

Beyond that, a lot of the same data that can be accessed over the web
interface (namely the kickstart/preseed data) which contains information
that could be considered just as sensitive (IP's, MACs, etc.). You
should never have unencrypted data like plain-text passwords in your
automated response files unless there is absolutely no other option and
you can ensure the network they're traversing is secured.

The problem is that in nova-manage, the code catches

[Bug 967410] Re: Windows clients cannot connect to shared printers

2012-07-17 Thread James Brown
#21 worked for me too, but really needs a better explanation.

rpcclient needs to be run as superuser - it did not work for me until I
changed user to root (su root)

i did not try it, but I think "sudo rpcclient" should work as well if
you have enabled root directly.

typing "enumprinters 5" resulted in one listing for each of the
printers in my system, but the result for each priner was

printername:[\\LOCALHOST\]
portname:[]
attributes:[0x0]
device_not_selected_timeout:[0x0]
transmission_retry_timeout:[0x0]

"enumprinters" (without the "5") yielded this with the correct name for each
printer:

  flags:[0x80]
name:[\\LOCALHOST\HP-LaserJet-1100]
description:[\\LOCALHOST\HP-LaserJet-1100,,HP LaserJet 1100]
comment:[HP LaserJet 1100]

typing "setprintername HP-LaserJet-1100 HP-LaserJet-1100" resulte din a
success message.

typing "enumprinters 5" now lists the printer with the correct name.
and I can connect normally from the Windows clients.

I do not know what the "5" means, but apparantly the upgrade did
something to zero out the existing settings.

[Bug 251632] Re: DHCP client should not create temporary files in /etc

2012-07-17 Thread Rob van der Linde
I noticed that this is fixed in Ubuntu 12.04, /etc/resolv.conf is now a
symlink to /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf and /run is mounted as tmpfs so
it now works if /etc is mounted as readonly.

Maybe this bug can be closed now?

[Bug 967410] Re: Windows clients cannot connect to shared printers

2012-07-17 Thread David

"enumprinters [level]
Execute an EnumPrinters() call. This lists the various installed and
share printers. Refer to the MS Platform SDK documentation for more details of
the various flags and calling options. Currently supported info levels are 1, 2
and 5."

 "setprintername
   Set printer name"

Bad English

Sorry for the bad explanation in comment #21

Well, in my samba configuration the group lpadmin is printer manager, my
lpadmin user belongs to, so it worked for me without being root user
(optional add "printer admin = @lpadmin" in smb.conf without the
quotes), the root user is always default printer manager.

For a better explanation of the rpcclient command and its use can
always consult the man command.

Taken from the manual:

"enumprinters [level]
Execute an EnumPrinters() call. This lists the various installed and
share printers. Refer to the MS Platform SDK documentation for more details of
the various flags and calling options. Currently supported info levels are 1, 2
and 5."

 "setprintername
   Set printer name"
