[Bug 1061977] Re: Machine fails to commission when console=ttyS0 is present on kernel opts
OK. So, heres a summary of the problem. * system boots with 'console=tty1 console=ttyS0' * system may not actually have a serial device (see mesg for more info) * kernel output does get to video console (and ttyS0 locations on systems where that is available) * all cloud-init jobs have 'console output', and some run successfully, but then one fails. * echo HI MOM | sudo tee /dev/console results in: tee: /dev/console: Input/output error * starting job afterwards as 'start cloud-init-final' will die immediately running the same thing it *would* run by hand (but with output not to /dev/console) will run to completion. So it certainly seems to me that kernel assigned /dev/ttyS0 to /dev/console and upstarts' stdin and stdout there. and then later that device 'went bad'. I was under the impression that kernel went through these and assigned /dev/console to the last valid entry, but it appears i may be wrong [1] on that. -- [1] http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/serial-console.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to cloud-init in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1061977 Title: Machine fails to commission when console=ttyS0 is present on kernel opts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/maas/+bug/1061977/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 488696] Re: syntax error in nsswitch config near [ syntax error ]
Doh... done =) ** Description changed: - Binary package hint: autofs5 + [IMPACT] - This is the error I get in syslog after autofs start. I have some issues - with autofs not working, and that can be the case. + By default installed autofs, fails to parse the default/unmodified + nsswitch.conf and hence does not fall back to files stanza. The parser + fails if it doesn't find automount stanza in the nsswitch.conf, and by + default there isn't one on Debian/Ubuntu systems. [Bug 1061166] Re: ec2 instance IDs are broken after folsom upgrade
>From what I can gather the 107 migration only copies the instance's ID and UUID to the new mapping table, but leaves the other columns NULL, specifically 'deleted'. In Folsom, an ec2 describe instances call will check that the instances.id <-> uuid mapping exists in the instances_id_mapping table and create one if it does not find one. The query that checks the instances_id_mapping table has a 'deleted=0' constraint. In this case, all of the copied mappings have a NULL value here. Finding no mapping, it creates a new one and throws the whole thing off. It makes sense that this works fine on fresh Folsom installs, because new instances get a new mapping created in this empty table with the appropriate columns filled. There is still a relationship between instances.id and instance_id_mappings.id, and the duplicate entries being created in the mapping table throws that relationship off (after the table has duplicate entires created, new instances EC2 IDs are also off). I'm not sure if there needs to be a FK constraint between instances.id and instance_id_mappings.id to ensure that relationship is in-tact, even if the mappings table is being polluted with duplicates. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to nova in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1061166 Title: ec2 instance IDs are broken after folsom upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nova/+bug/1061166/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1052365] Re: pas la possibilte d installer derniere version de samba
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it. Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally, in the report please include: 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System -> About Ubuntu. 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by checking in Synaptic. 3) What happened and what you expected to happen. The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures . Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make your bug report much more complete. [Bug 1060404] Re: update-grub runs and fails in containers
After talking to cjwatson on irc, there is another option. update-grub is failing because /dev/disk/ is not set up in the container. So we could add an upstart job which runs only in containers, and manually sets up /dev/disk/. This also might help other software which relies on /dev/disk/. However, as grub is not installed in ubuntu containers by default (but is installed in ubuntu-cloud containers) we can't blindly re-use grub-probe. If we use grub-probe only if it is available, then we are helping fewer cases. If we detect the root device by hand, I fear we are duplicating too much fragile code. Perhaps the best option is simply an upstart job like the below (but smarter and safer): start on starting mountall task script type grub-probe > /dev/null 2>&1 || { exit 0; stop; } mkdir -p /dev/disk/by-label /dev/disk/by-uuid rootdev=`grub-probe -t device /` do_mknod /dev/rootdev rootlabel=`grub-probe -t fs_label /` ln -s ../../$rootdev /dev/disk/by-label/$rootlabel rootuuid=`grub-probe -t fs_uuid /` ln -s ../../$rootdev /dev/disk/by-uuid/$rootuuid end script ** Also affects: upstart (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to lxc in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1060404 Title: update-grub runs and fails in containers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1060404/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1061166] Re: ec2 instance IDs are broken after folsom upgrade
I upgraded today and found that I had this issue. Not all of my instances had duplicate entries in the `instance_id_mappings` table, however I did have more entries within the `instance_id_mappings` than within the `instances` table. It seems that the `id` column in the `instances` table is still being used somewhere. In order to work around the problem I needed to set the auto_increment integer to be the same for each table. Example: -- grab the auto_increment integer for `instances` table SELECT Auto_increment FROM information_schema.tables WHERE table_name='instances' AND table_schema='nova'; -- grab the auto_increment integer for `instances` table SELECT Auto_increment FROM information_schema.tables WHERE table_name='instance_id_mappings' AND table_schema='nova'; -- raise the lowest number returned to the same as the highest for the relevant table. Just try and keep you multpath.conf as simple as possible, to even *one* directive, test and record, then iterate until you start to see it break. It's best to stop multipath-tools altogether and just "multipath -F && multipath -v4" until you find the breakage. Record the logs the entire time using redirection or 'script' and attach your results to this issue.
