[Bug 1079032] [NEW] execs children with SIGCHLD ignored

Public bug reported:

Bug fixed upstream, and in debian stable. See http://bugs.debian.org
/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=531078

To exhibit (with psql you'll need the posgresql-client package, I
think):

[Blueprint servercloud-r-fastpath-install] fast server install for cloud-image like experience

2012-11-14 Thread Scott Moser
Blueprint changed by Scott Moser:

Whiteboard changed:
  User Stories:
Rocky runs a MAAS cluster. The nodes have frequent turnover and installation
time is time lost. Faster installation means higher usage time.

  Assumptions:
The fast path installer is intended to only support simplistic
cloud-image-like installation. Users wishing for for more complex partition
layout may need to use the debian installer path.

  Risks:
bootloader installation is non-trivial. The debian installer does a good job
of doing this. If we can't re-use that logic we risk failing to boot. UEFI
boot is also complex and may be required for some systems.

  Test Plans:
- This code path will be used in the Ubuntu openstack CI framework to help it
install faster. That will prove at least one functional path.
+ This code path will be used in the Ubuntu openstack CI framework to help it
install faster. That will prove at least one functional path. Additionally,
the code is testable inside kvm with a cloud-image serving as the bootable
system and installing to a target second disk in the system.

  Release Note:
Nodes installed through MAAS can use the fast path installer to significantly
reduce installation time. It results in a cloud-image like environment with
customization available via cloud-init on first boot.

[Blueprint servercloud-r-image-access] Easy machine access to Ubuntu image and cloud data

2012-11-14 Thread Scott Moser
Blueprint changed by Scott Moser:

Whiteboard set to:
User Stories:
Jerry is a developer and uses lxc on Ubuntu for development. He wants to keep
up to date images for use on his local system.

Patty runs a MAAS cluster that is not directly connected to the public
internet. She needs to keep a local mirror of all files that MAAS
needs, and point the MAAS cluster at tht mirror.

Mike operates an internal Eucalyptus cloud. He wants to keep current
Ubuntu cloud images populated to his local cloud. He has tools that can
upload images, list images, and delete images and would like to easily
keep the local cloud in sync with remote images.

Assumptions:

Risks:

Test Plans:
As part of the blueprint, a mirror client will be developed. The client will
support mirroring over http and local files.
Mock server data will be available to quickly test the client against.

Release Note:

Machine formatted data is now available for files and data that describe
Ubuntu Server. A mirror client allows you to easily keep local mirrors
of the data for internal use, and take action when new data is
available.

[Bug 1069529] Re: Regression in system fallback for date_default_timezone_get()

2012-11-14 Thread Clint Byrum
Hello Dominik, or anyone else affected,

Accepted php5 into quantal-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php5/5.4.6-1ubuntu1.1
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please change the bug tag from
verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not, change the
tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing
will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1076286] Re: Puppet agent not correcly configuring facts synch'd from master

2012-11-14 Thread Matthaus Owens
So if the problem is that custom facts don't get to agents by default
after installing the puppet package, a solution could be to add
"pluginsync=true" to the puppet.conf in the package, but that might be
surprising to users, depending on what behavior they expect.

Side note: pluginsync defaults to true in Puppet 3.0

[Bug 1076286] Re: Puppet agent not correcly configuring facts synch'd from master

2012-11-14 Thread Matthaus Litteken
I wasn't able to reproduce this on precise. I used the following
manifest to test the fact:

node default {
  file { '/tmp/puppettest':
ensure => present,
content => $test_fact,
  }
}

I had just the fact example you used in
(/etc/puppet/modules/modulewithfact/lib/facter/test_fact.rb)...

Facter.add(:test_fact) do
  confine :kernel => "Linux"
  setcode do
"Content from the fact"
  end
end

The puppet run was as follows...

puppet agent -t
info: Loading facts in
/etc/puppet/modules/modulewithfact/lib/facter/test_fact.rb
info: Caching catalog for precise-64.localdomain
info: Applying configuration version '1353888521'
notice: /Stage[main]//Node[default]/File[/tmp/puppettest]/ensure: created
notice: Finished catalog run in 0.02 seconds

And the content was as expected.

cat /tmp/puppettest
Content from the fact

[Bug 16669] Re: Squid: Compile with --enable-ssl

2012-11-14 Thread Amos Jeffries
GnuTLS has been passed to the upstream bugzilla, so is on the TODO list.
However all we are seeing is demands that we do the *enormous*
conversion task for free. Nobody supposedly "needing" SSL has been
willing to contribute towards development, even as patch submissions to
assist.

I have finally got around to starting
https://code.launchpad.net/~yadi/squid/crypto-ng as a tracker to begin
forward progress. however, without support you can expect it to go just
as slowly as before. Any assistance is VERY welcome.

alternatively there are several proposals to make a special Squid
package using OpenSSL available through non-free repositories. AFAIK the
packaging maintainers have not made their thoughts on that known.

[Bug 1078926] [NEW] raring instance failed to find EC2 datasource

2012-11-14 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

This seems sporadic failure at best. I had seen it on openstack fail similarly.
Today I launched 7 instances of us-east-1 t1.micro from each of :
 ami-be70f5d7 ebs/ubuntu-raring-daily-amd64-server-20121109
 ami-de27a2b7 ebs/ubuntu-raring-daily-amd64-server-20121110
 ami-f6c94d9f ebs/ubuntu-raring-daily-amd64-server-2012
 ami-cc8307a5 ebs/ubuntu-raring-daily-amd64-server-20121112
 ami-5c43c735 ebs/ubuntu-raring-daily-amd64-server-20121113
and then another one of 20121109 and 20121113.

One of the 2 20121109 failed to boot, and I will attach its console log
and cloud-init.log. The log was obtained from stopping the instance,
attaching to another system, and getting it. Then I restarted the
instance, and it booted fine.

Things that were of interest:
 * from cloud-init's perspective, the thing that failed was finding the ec2
metadata service.
 * In the failure case, there were no messages to the console log after
initramfs, while cloud-init's log shows it WARNing, which should go to console.

I found our problem. Seems to be related to the intel e1000 driver.

Running the following fixed it for us:
 ethtool -K ethX rxvlan off

[Bug 1077434] Re: Apache 2.2.14 Server Status no longer available

2012-11-14 Thread Robie Basak
Sorry, based on your original description I was under the impression
that you had upgraded from 8.04 to 10.04, rather than having just
applied an update within the same release.

There was a recent SSL-related security update:

  * SECURITY UPDATE: CRIME attack ssl attack (LP: #1068854)
- debian/patches/303_CVE-2012-4929.dpatch: backport SSLCompression
on|off directive. Defaults to off as enabling compression enables the
  CRIME attack.
- CVE-2012-4929

I wonder if this is related.

[Bug 1077434] Re: Apache 2.2.14 Server Status no longer available

2012-11-14 Thread Richard de Rivaz
Thank you for your response and for carrying out these checks.

Just to clarify, I am running Lucid 10.04 and server status had been
working fine for years. I saw that Apache had been updated as part of
the normal updates and thereafter server status came up with the error.
No changes were made by me to the configuration file. If I issued the
request https://127.0.0.1/server-status the following error comes up:

SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length.

(Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long)

The fact that I had made no configuration changes and server status was
no longer available as well as the https error looked to me to be a
bug/problem that had been introduced by the upgrade.

[Blueprint servercloud-r-openstack-ha] OpenStack Infrastructure HA

2012-11-14 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Blueprint changed by Andres Rodriguez:

Whiteboard changed:
  User Stories:

Ante wants to be able to deploy OpenStack with HA using Juju charms.
However currently he is having to manually deploy HA after deploying the
  cloud with juju charms.

  Risks:

+ Not all deployment scenarios might be covered by the hacluster charm.
+ Needs support for parent charm (hacluster is a subordinate charm)
+ Things like fencing/STONITH are needed to be considered for certain scenarios.
+ Many configuration options, for which not all might be able to be covered in
the charms.
+
  Test Plans:
+
+ Deployment and failure testing in the OpenStack QA lab.

  Release Note:

-
- -- andreserl - please complete the rest of the blueprint spec for this
blueprint.

2012-11-14 Thread James Page
Blueprint changed by James Page:

Whiteboard changed:
  Things to discuss:

  * What to do about lack of unit tests in recent patch releases of MySQL
  * MariaDB and Percona Server in the distro
  * Upstream MariaDB and Pecona Server package compatibility w/ distro
  * Synchronizing packaging between Ubuntu and Debian
  * Collaboration on MySQL Juju charm
  * Adding Galera Support to Packaging
  * General HA solutions (Critical for OpenStack deployments)
  * MySQL 5.6
  * MySQL release schedule

  User Stories:

  Risks:

  Test Plans:

  Release Note:

  Notes from UDS session
  Percona alongside MySQL in Ubuntu?
  PS > 90% MySQL
PXC is 99% Percona Server + Galera
  Flashcache - no widepread use.
May not be supported in Percona Server 5.6
  Universe target for these packages
Security preference is to only have one supported version
  MySQL Challenges
Some test cases are updated; but not all test cases are public.
May be possible to have a backchannel NDA discussion for this.
No policy change on identification of individual commits for security issues.
... anything percona fixes will be made public - but in the same position
with regards to mysql security fixes.
No backporting of percona in the same way as mysql due to this constraint -
always move forwards in terms of minor versioning.
  MySQL Updates
5.6 target for 13.10 intime for 14.04 LTS release...
