[Blueprint servercloud-r-juju-charm-testing] Juju Charm Testing

2013-01-17 Thread Antonio Rosales
Blueprint changed by Antonio Rosales:

Whiteboard changed:
  Discussion:
   *Bug submission on charm failure.
*Define a process around how charm maintainers respond to test failures and
subsequent bugs. Can a user run a manual test and submit the test back to the
bug report to update testing status to green.
*Enable Autocharm tester to be more resilient against provider failures, and
Jenkins usage.
simulate provider failure, and be able to recover: $ juju ssh
sudo shutdown now
   * Define WIs to execute auto charm testing on Go.
   * Continuous Integration (also will help with gating on charm commits)
   * Juju Testing Blogging
   * Juju testing communication to Juju lists.
   * Work on integrating/fixing Charm runner (graph testing/ dependency/env set
up testing).

Add a Jenkins workflow to run a charm or a set of charms in the following LXC
environments:

[Bug 1101002] [NEW] Frequently stops working for 15-30 seconds at a time on Ubuntu 12.10

2013-01-17 Thread Nick Salyzyn
Public bug reported:

I'm not the only one experiencing this issue in the office. I've set up
*.dev to point to 127.0.0.1 following the steps here:
http://groups.drupal.org/node/16862. Usually when I ping
"something.dev", it works, but sometimes it fails. I can hit
something.dev:80 repeatedly with a web browser and eventually it will
work. Restarting bind9 via `service bind9 restart` also works. This
happens every 30 minutes or so.

[Bug 1100936] Re: init script cannot find java7 from oracle

2013-01-17 Thread Serge Hallyn
Marking confirmed since the init scripts don't look for anything but
openjdks. Though since they do so quite explicitly, it seems not
impossible that there might be known problems with running tomcat with
java-x-oracle.

[Bug 1097312] Please test proposed package

2013-01-17 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Serge, or anyone else affected,

Accepted lxc into quantal-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxc/0.8.0~rc1-4ubuntu39.12.10.1 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1097312] Re: container startup must not fail if setup_kmsg fails

2013-01-17 Thread Brian Murray
To be clear this was fixed in raring with:

lxc (0.8.0~rc1-4ubuntu45) raring; urgency=low

  [ Stéphane Graber ]
  * Allow the container to mount efivars on /sys/firmware/efi/efivars.
efivars is automatically mounted by mountall on UEFI systems, failure to
do so leads to a complete boot failured.
  * Allow mounts and pivot_roots under /usr/lib/lxc/root/ for compatibility
with nested precise lxc hosts (quantal -> precise -> containers).

  [ Serge Hallyn ]
  * update 0227-ubuntu-cloud-parsing to catch a doc typo stgraber had found
in the upstream review.
  * 0228-ignore-kmsg-setup-failure: ignore failure to set up kmsg, since that
is not critical.

  [ Christian Kampka ]
  * Have upstart run lxc instances (LP: #1049908)

Marking confirmed based on the fedora report. THe Makefile.am in raring
still shows:

./scripts/udev/Makefile.am: udevrules_DATA += 52-nut-usbups.rules
./scripts/udev/Makefile.am: udevrules_DATA += 52-nut-ipmipsu.rules

so I doubt it has been fixed there.

[Bug 1100877] Re: lxc-start fails after upgrade to raring

The error here is the absence of lxcbr0 on the system, the rest is just
LXC trying to cleanup.

[Bug 1100096] Re: open-vm-dkms 2012.10.14-874563-0ubuntu1: open-vm-tools kernel module failed to build

2013-01-17 Thread Hugo van der Wijst
The package from Nate fixes most compilation errors, except for the
following:

/var/lib/dkms/open-vm-tools/2012.12.26/build/vmhgfs/inode.c: In function
‘HgfsTruncatePages’:
/var/lib/dkms/open-vm-tools/2012.12.26/build/vmhgfs/inode.c:888:4: error:
implicit declaration of function ‘vmtruncate’
[-Werror=implicit-function-declaration]
cc1: some warnings being treated as errors

Apparently, the vmtruncate method got removed in the following kernel commit:
7898575fc81bd707ce0844cb06874d48e39bbe09

I've got the tools compiling by copying the contents of the vmtruncate
method before it was removed. See the attached patch. Please note that I
have remove the call to the truncate method of the inode, as it does not
exist anymore. I don't know if this is correct.

[Bug 1100843] [NEW] Live Migration Causes Performance Issues

2013-01-17 Thread Mark Petersen
Public bug reported:

I have 2 physical hosts running Ubuntu Precise. With 1.0+noroms-
0ubuntu14.7 and qemu-kvm 1.2.0+noroms-0ubuntu7 (source from quantal,
built for Precise with pbuilder.) I attempted to build qemu-1.3.0 debs
from source to test, but libvirt seems to have an issue with it that I
haven't been able to track down yet.

I'm seeing a performance degradation after live migration on Precise,
but not Lucid. These hosts are managed by libvirt (tested both
0.9.8-2ubuntu17 and 1.0.0-0ubuntu4) in conjunction with OpenNebula. I
don't seem to have this problem with lucid guests (running a number of
standard kernels, 3.2.5 mainline and backported linux-
image-3.2.0-35-generic as well.)

I first noticed this problem with phoronix doing compilation tests, and
then tried lmbench where even simple calls experience performance
degradation.

I've attempted to post to the kvm mailing list, but so far the only
suggestion was it may be related to transparent hugepages not being used
after migration, but this didn't pan out. Someone else has a similar
problem here -

[Bug 1100491] Re: [SRU] apt_sources broken in 0.6.3-0ubuntu1.3 [regression]

2013-01-17 Thread Scott Moser
I'm attaching a user-data file that I've built to demonstrate this issue, and
that it is resolved.
Simply:
 * launch an instance with the provided user-data
 * ssh to instance. wait for /home/ubuntu// directory to contain
'cloud-init-output.log', and then reboot

On ssh in, you'll see a directory named for the cloud-init version that was
present on boot.
Once that directory has 'cloud-init.log' in it, then you can reboot.

The next boot should have the next version of cloud-init in it (ie, if
instance had 0.6.3-0ubuntu1.1, then 0.6.3-0ubuntu1.3 should be
installed. If 0.6.3-0ubuntu1.3 was there , then -proposed should have
been installed).

Just looking at the associated logs will show if there as an error.
I've verified using a daily image, that had 0.6.3-0ubuntu1.3 in it.

[Bug 1052952] Re: samba-3.6.3 (precise) fails to build from source

2013-01-17 Thread James Rice
Exact same issue, building on i386, on a completely update precise.
This is recent, as I was able to compile this in the same environment
with 3.6.3-2ubuntu2.1. Also, not sure why this was moved to fix
released. I refered to the debian bug report, and as far as I can tell,
the debian bug was closed invalid.

[Bug 1004162] Re: Samba won't change from wired to wireless NIC in same session

2013-01-17 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for your report.

Please can you specify exactly what you mean by "...it can no longer
access shares on main."? What method are you using to access shares?
What happens when it works, and what happens when it doesn't?

If you aren't already, then please also use smbclient to try and access
shares (both with -L to see if shares are available, and
//server/sharename to see if you can connect), and report the results.

Please also attach the output of "ip addr" and "ip route" in both the
working and non-working wireless situations.

Finally, please use tcpdump and report the source IP address being used
(or being attempted to be used) to access your share in both the working
and non-working wireless situations.

Once you have reported the answers to these questions, please change the
bug status back to New.

[Bug 1004162] Re: Samba won't change from wired to wireless NIC in same session

2013-01-17 Thread shankao
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in samba.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1004162] [NEW] Samba won't change from wired to wireless NIC in same session

2013-01-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Home network consists of:

main - this PC is wired to the router @ 192.168.1.2. Dual boots Win 7 &
Xubuntu 12.04.

laptop-wired - this is a Lenovo T60 on 192.168.1.3 Dual boots Win 7 and
Xubuntu 12.04. This IP belongs to the wired NIC.

laptop-wireless - this is the same Lenovo T60 with the wireless NIC on
192.168.1.4.

Android phone - sees and connects to all shares... it doesn't care.

So here's the problem: I've got the laptop and main PC sharing folders
just fine. Windows shares with Linux and vice-versa, regardless of which
computer is booted into which OS - as long as the laptop is plugged into
LAN via the wired NIC. The minute I un-plug it, the laptop reverts to
the wireless NIC and has access to the router and full internet access,
but it cannot connect to the shares on main regardless of which OS is
current running on main.

As an experiment, I unplugged the laptop and rebooted it. Now it
connects to the shares on main just fine. If I plug it in, it directs
all traffic thru the wired NIC (I can tell by the icon in the Xubuntu
taskbar) and all is well. I then unplug the wired NIC and the wireless
NIC is able to connect to the same shares just fine.

Therefore, it seems that the only time I have a problem is if the laptop
is initially booted with the wired NIC... I then diconnect and it then
reverts to the wireless NIC... bit it can no longer access shares on
main.

However, if I boot the laptop using only the wireless NIC (unplugged) it
has no problem sharing regardless of which NIC is currently in use.

To summarize, if the laptop is initially connected via the wired NIC and
then is unplugged, it has no problem going to the wireless NIC for
internet access through the router. However, it cannot access shares on
the main pc (which is always wired). But if I do this the other way
around... boot with it unplugged... the wireless NIC can access the
shares. I can then plug in the wired NIC and still access shares. I can
also unplug and go back to the wireless NIC and still access shares.

This seems to be the only way to guarantee that the laptop can access
the shares whether it's using the wired or wireless NIC: boot it with
only the wireless NIC (unplugged).
