[Bug 1155863] Re: package libapache2-mod-php5 5.4.6-1ubuntu1.2 failed to install/upgrade: unable to sync file '/usr/lib/apache2/modules/libphp5.so.dpkg-new': Input/output error

2013-03-15 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1155871] [NEW] Project switcher only displays a single project

2013-03-15 Thread Kieran Spear
Public bug reported:

Testing the Grizzly Trunk Testing PPA.

Django_openstack_auth needs to be updated to at least 1.0.6 as there's
an incompatibility between django_openstack_auth < 1.0.6 and new
keystoneclient versions (>= 2.0) that breaks the project switch
dropdown.

[Bug 571572] Re: krb5 prefers the reverse pointer no matter what for locating service tickets.

2013-03-15 Thread Tom Yu
Additional experimentation indicates that Raring has a partial fix to
glibc that results in the observed libkrb5 behavior of rdns=false
working as intended. SRUs are still a good idea for earlier Ubuntu
releases. See also bug 1057526 for the underlying glibc bug.

[Bug 1096488] Re: "git commit NetworkManager/" also includes .etckeeper file

2013-03-15 Thread Bryan Fullerton
Thanks for taking the time to report this issue and make Ubuntu better.

This definitely seems like something related to etckeeper first, so I'm
moving it there.

Based on the documentation [1] it looks like once you've setup etckeeper
you should only be using etckeeper itself to commit changes, and use
bare vcs commands (git, bzr, etc) only for reviewing changes. So I'm
going to mark this as invalid.

[Bug 1096488] [NEW] "git commit NetworkManager/" also includes .etckeeper file

2013-03-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I run git 1:1.7.9.5-1 in precise. This might be a bug in git or
etckeeper which I use to keep track of the /etc/ directory. Here's what
I did as root:

# cd /etc/
# git commit NetworkManager/

The commit message being pulled up looked like everything was fine,
indicating that the .etckeeper file was changed but not included in the
commit. When I checked the commit subsequently with "git whatchanged" I
learned that the .etckeeper file had been included.

[Bug 1155752] [NEW] TCP Re-Transmits not occurring reliably after a ZeroWindow/WindowUpdate.

2013-03-15 Thread warren olson
Public bug reported:

While issuing a POST login request to the website
http://portal.greatsouthernwood.com it was noticed it would hang for several
minutes until finally a timeout occurred.
Topology of environment:

Client --> Squid --> FortiGate --> DSL

Upon pcap investigation we noticed the following series of events:

1. POST request from squid to FortiGate
2. FortiGate sends a TCP ZeroWindow to pause connection for webfilter
function(by design)
3. FortiGate immediately sends TCP Window Update to continue
4. Squid does not retransmit for 2 minutes. No ACK was seen by the initial POST
so Squid should have triggered a retransmit based on its' retransmit timeout,
which is surely not 2 minutes.

I have screenshots showing the interesting streams. (will upload if
possible)

retransmit-broken.png -- when issue happens
retransmit-working.png -- when issue doesnt happen(expected behavior)

the 10.x address is the squid server...this is occurring in approximately 2000
environments running squid all on different providers, so it's definitely not
isolated to one device. Any assistance in figuring this out would be
appreciated.

It should be noted when we disable the webfilter on the FortiGate, there are no
more tcp zerowindows being sent, therefore the issue goes away...so it really
does appear to affect things due to that flag.

This is occurring with Squid only on Ubuntu(tried on other distros to
recreate and haven't been able to), therefore I wonder if it's something
with the OS itself.

OS: (Ubuntu 12.10)
Squid: 3.1.20

[Bug 1122946] Re: Log file is missing entries

2013-03-15 Thread Scott Kitterman
The syslog protocol is sometimes lossy when too many events are sent.
This is by design. In general, if your system is missing log entries,
it is trying to log too much and you'll need to reduce the amount of
logging you are doing. This is not a postfix specific issue.

[Bug 1155556] Re: HP ProLiant DL380 G7 tftps kernel, but initrd tracebacks in tftp server. DL380 G6 succeeds.

2013-03-15 Thread Nick Moffitt
Right, so after a day spent with Daviey and a bunch of 30MB pcap files,
we think we've figured this out.

the key exchange that failed happens here:

 7418 112.051626 10.55.200.9910.55.200.1 TFTPRead Request,
File: amd64/generic/quantal/commissioning/initrd.gz, Transfer type: octet,
tsize\000=0\000, blksize\000=1408\000
 7419 112.053444 10.55.200.1 10.55.200.99TFTPOption
Acknowledgement, tsize\000=18988167\000, blksize\000=1400\000
 7420 113.053489 10.55.200.1 10.55.200.99TFTPOption
Acknowledgement, tsize\000=18988167\000, blksize\000=1400\000
 7423 116.053542 10.55.200.1 10.55.200.99TFTPOption
Acknowledgement, tsize\000=18988167\000, blksize\000=1400\000
 7425 116.832761 10.55.200.9910.55.200.1 TFTP
Acknowledgement, Block: 0

The client requests the initrd, but something in the firmware or
pxelinux itself gets hung for almost five seconds. During that time,
the maas tftpd sends three ACKs (option acknowledgements, specifically),
and times out. By the time the client sends the ACK-0 to start the data
transfer, the session state has been discarded and the tftpd just loggs
the exception as an OOPS and waits for the next session to start.

Incidentally, we spent a lot of time correlating requested/actual block
sizes for a while between this tftpd and the HPA tftpd. That turned out
to be a red herring, of course, but it seemed like a compelling lead for
a while. The solution did come from a comparision to tftpd-hpa, though.

In a few places in tftp/bootstrap.py and tftp/session.py there are
timeout tuples set to (1, 3, 7). The iterable is consumed by the
watchdog code every time a packet is sent out, and once the iterable is
empty the watchdog tells the state machine to give up on the request.
We never dug too far into the units or where in the conversation these
things are read, but the fact that there are three times in the tuple
and that the daemon gave up after three ACKs is a compelling
coïncidence.

The tftpd-hpa code tries six times, waiting one second each:

 Spads: #define TIMEOUT 100 /* Default timeout (us) */
#define TRIES 6 /* Number of attempts to send each
packet */
 #define TIMEOUT_LIMIT ((1 << TRIES)-1)

Extending the tuple at line 346 of bootstrap.py solved this situation
for us, and the maas tftpd succeeded just as tftpd-hpa. In the end we
settled on:

class RemoteOriginReadSession(TFTPBootstrap):
"""Bootstraps a L{ReadSession}, that was started remotely, - we've
received
a RRQ.

"""
timeout = (1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1)

...as this more closely mimics what Daviey found in the tftpd-hpa
source.

This timeout tuple appears in a few places, so any adjustments to this
code should probably be made to all of the timeout iterables in
bootstrap.py and session.py.

Finally, while it's true that this seems to be a workaround for a fault
on the client side (whether the fault is in firmware or in pxelinux.0 I
can't say), I believe it is also a regression against the precise maas,
which used cobbler.

[Bug 1155652] [NEW] cloud-final is not executed during creation of a container from template ubuntu-cloud

2013-03-15 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Public bug reported:

When creating a container with template "ubuntu-cloud" the service
cloud-final is not executed resulting in a incomplete installation.

TEST CASE:
1. Copy the user-data script in attachment to a local directory (you can remove
the package list to go faster)
2. Create a new container from the template "ubuntu-cloud" with the command:
  $ sudo lxc-create -n raring-test -t ubuntu-cloud -- -r raring -u user-data
3. Start the container and wait until installation is done:
  $ sudo lxc-start -n raring-test

ACTUAL RESULT:
cloud-final is not executed, final-message is not displayed and boot-finished
is not created on disk.

This is a bit of a long shot, but is it possible this is the same error

[Bug 1155403] Re: virtio cdrom detected as hard disk

2013-03-15 Thread Phillip Susi
The current raring version, which appears to be 1.4.0+dfsg-1expubuntu3.
Also I guess this should be under just the "qemu" package now rather
than -kvm.

The command line is qemu -drive file=whatever.iso,if=virtio,media=cdrom.
With or without the media argument seems to make no difference; either
way udev thinks the drive is a disk, not a cdrom.

[Bug 1153364] Re: trouble with guest network connectivity when host is using a bonded interface

2013-03-15 Thread ben thielsen
no worries. i'm a bit embarrassed i couldn't offer a more directed
initial report.

i do believe the vhost_net module is installed and working:

>lsmod | grep -i vhost

macvtap18294 1 vhost_net

 -vnc 0.0.0.0:0 -vga cirrus -device
virtio-balloon-pci,id=balloon0,bus=pci.0,addr=0x5

i've tested with lxc as you ask - it seems to not exhibit this problem.
pings both from the container/guest against other devices on the
network, as well as pings against the container/guest. i did notice,
with some consistency, duplicate pings - but i know that this is
sometimes simply just a largely innocuous side affect of certain types
of load balancing, so i'm not necessarily terribly concerned about that.
in addition, connectivity to the guest/container in general seemed to be
fine, which which not the case with the prior testing.

a couple of other notes to add that i've come across [or remembered]
since my previous post. i have since also tested with balance-tlb, and
this seems to work ok, with no symptoms of intermittent network
connectivity - both for my kvm guests, as well as the lxc
container/guest.

also, i had forgotten about it when i initially wrote up this
submission, but initially, i was using macvtap for my kvm guest network
connectivity, and this is where i first saw the symptoms. i then
switched to using a bridged setup, partially to test things further, but
also for also reasons related to some of the limitations of macvtap
[specifically guests not being able to communicate with the host when
using the same interface]. ultimately, i intend to stay with the
bridged configuration, because of this, but wanted to mention that the
symptoms do appear to be present with both.

lastly, one other possibly interesting bit of info - as i was testing
again this morning with balance-alb and lxc, i tested again with a kvm
guest to ensure the symptom was still present. this time when pinging,
not only were the symptoms still present, i saw some behavior i hadn't
noticed previously:

[Bug 1153364] Re: trouble with guest network connectivity when host is using a bonded interface

2013-03-15 Thread ben thielsen
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

i'm seeing poor/intermittent/degrading network connectivity for guests,
when the host is using a bonded interface.

in a nutshell, the network configuration is as follows: the physical
interfaces [eth0 and eth1] are bonded together as bond0 [i've tried
various bond modes - see below]. a bridge interface [br0] is configured
with bond0 attached to it. all guests use br0 as their "forward"
interface. my tests have generally included a single host, with two
guests running on it. both guests are running ubuntu 12.10.

it depends slightly on the particulars of the configuration, but the
most prevalent symptom is that a newly booted guest will at first
respond to pings [with little to no loss], and the guest will be able to
ping other hosts on the network, but as time passes, more and more
packets are dropped. eventually, virtually all ping requests go
unanswered. in some cases, it appears that restarting networking on the
guest will fix this, partially and temporarily. the guest will begin to
reply 4-5 packets after restarting networking, but does not respond
consistently, eventually failing again as before. i've also noticed
that in some cases where ping against the guest has not yet begun to
fail, if i ping something else on the network from the guest, this
causes the pings against the guest to abruptly fail.

i know this is all quite abstract - i've spent quite a bit a time trying
to isolate various variables, and while i've made some progress, i think
  some guidance would be helpful.

what i have noticed specifically is if i attach a physical device [e.g.
eth0 or eth1] to the bridge [instead of bond0], things seem to work ok.
also, if i use active-backup as the bonding mode, things seem to work
ok. i was initially using balance-alb as the bonding mode, and have
also tested balance-rr as the bonding mode. both exhibit the above
symptoms. i've also tried various network card models for the guests
[realtek, e1000, and virtio]. this has not had any impact on the
symptoms. lastly, the two guests have been able to ping each other,
with no issues, regardless of the various network settings. at the
moment, i have switched back to active-backup, so this is reflected in
  the below information.

here is a bit of configuration info:
