Re: [Bug 1187262] Re: [MIR] mongodb, libv8, snowball, gyp

2013-07-02 Thread James Page
Hi Jamie

On 28/06/13 12:32, Jamie Strandboge wrote:
libv8 is something we've considered in the past as part of our webkit
work and Ubuntu SDK audits. We can't effectively support libv8 because
it is constantly changing. Therefore, backporting patches becomes
infeasible very quickly and we are faced with having to use a new
upstream release-- which would likely break anything that depends on it.
NAK on libv8 in the archive.

OK - sounds entirely reasonable and this was something I was concerned
about.

What we did for the Ubuntu SDK is allow an embedded version of libv8--
this is guaranteed to always match with its consumer, but for this to
work it must be demonstrated that libv8 does not process untrusted
javascript. If it doesn't, there is no attack surface for the embedded
libv8 and therefore it doesn't have to be kept up to date. If it does
 processed untrusted javascript, NAK.

mongodb ships an embedded version of libv8 within the upstream tarball;
we can switch back to using this so that we avoid libv8 being a
standalone library.

Re: it must be demonstrated that libv8 does not process untrusted
javascript

libv8 is used to provide the scriptable shell in mongodb; access to the
shell is via the mongo client application. By default, authentication
is turned off in the packaging - so its possible to access the db and
setup authentication - see
http://docs.mongodb.org/manual/tutorial/enable-authentication/. That
said the default bind ip is 127.0.0.1 so only users with access to the
system running mongod have unauthenticated access to the database -
allowing a configuration to be bootstrapped securely.

Hopefully that clarifies use of v8 sufficiently to support embedded
inclusion in mongodb.

[Bug 1196887] [NEW] Virtio-9p Failed to initialize fs-driver with id:fsdev-fs0 and export path: my path

2013-07-02 Thread Armindo Silva
Public bug reported:

I am trying to add a filesystem (add new virtual hardware, filesystem)
using libvirt's virt-manager to a guest and when I try to start the
guest it fails with the following message:

virsh # start images
error: Failed to start domain images
error: internal error Process exited while reading console log output: char
device redirected to /dev/pts/4
Virtio-9p Failed to initialize fs-driver with id:fsdev-fs0 and export path:my

I found this old bug report on debian: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=674919 and it appears that a similar bug was
caused by a mismatch between the glib versions used to compile the
package and available on the system.

I am using Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS 64 bits with the latest updates.

[Bug 951087] Re: Samba non-functional on boot.

2013-07-02 Thread Noble Pepper
I have suffered this behavior through several versions of Ubuntu, I
believe since at least Precise.

For me changing smbd.conf start condition from :

start on (local-filesystems and net-device-up)

to:

start on (local-filesystems and net-device-up IFACE!=lo)

takes care of it, seems rather simple, I don't see why anyone would want
to run SAMBA on lo.

[Bug 1197018] [NEW] bacula-dir.conf does not use random password

2013-07-02 Thread Jacek Nykis
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Private security bug reported:

[Bug 1031680] Re: check_apt always report 0 critical updates

2013-07-02 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
It's not a security issue, per se, just closely related. It is indeed
bug on ubuntu system and it is ubuntu specific in some ways. We should
provide improved checks by default, and if possible, in an unstreamable
way. I have targeted this bug for saucy, such that hopefully this can be
resolved this cycle.

cgroups are clean -- absolutely no vm-X folders under
/sys/fs/cgroup/*/lxc/

lxc.network.type is now 'veth' as I've moved off of using 'phys', but
the result is the same.

This happened after lxc-start / lxc-stop somewhere between 7k and 15k
times. Similar number as reported last time this happened, which really
suggests a leak of some sort.

I have the box in this state right now.

What other details could be helpful?

It looks like a resource leak, but I'm not yet sure of what that would
  be.

If it matters, I SIGKILL my lxc-start processes instead of using lxc-
stop. Could that have any negative implications?

- Oh, and cgroups had almost 6000 entries for VMs that are long dead (I'm
- guessing it's due to my SIGKILL). I've run cgclear and my
- /sys/fs/cgroup/*/ dirs are now totally empty, but the new containers
- still hang.

Looks like apport was missing some module to gather what it wanted. Let
me know if this info would be valuable and I can re-run it.

Attaching a better apport file after installing the missing dependency.
I will hide the ones from earlier as this will contain the same data and
more.

[Bug 1168526] Re: race condition causing lxc to not detect container init process exit

2013-07-02 Thread Serge Hallyn
Ok - thanks - I was able to reproduce this in a raring VM with 4 cores.

I thought this might be a tiny race window between us blocking signals
and creating the signalfd, so I reversed those (a patch which I may yet
send upstream) - but that didn't solve the issue.

[Bug 1168526] Re: race condition causing lxc to not detect container init process exit

2013-07-02 Thread Serge Hallyn
It does seem like this must be a kernel bug in epoll+signalfd (or a hard
to spot misuse thereof in lxc).

When I instrument the signal_handler which is executed when epoll_wait
returns a signalfd event, I do get a sigchld for the very first task
which is spawned (a test to see if kernel supports pidns reboot), but do
not get one for the container init - which becomes defunct and
therefore clearly did in fact send a sigchld.

I'll send my tiny patch upstream, and test on other kernels for
comparison.
