[Bug 1218137] [NEW] Unable to start qemu-kvm (1.0+noroms-0ubuntu14.11) on 12.04.3 LTS

2013-08-28 Thread Doug
Public bug reported:

While updating the qemu-kvm package to the latest version (1.0+noroms-

invoke-rc.d: initscript qemu-kvm, action "start" failed.

I am also unable to start qemu-kvm using the following methods:

$sudo service qemu-kvm start
start: Job failed to start
$ sudo /etc/init.d/qemu-kvm start
Rather than invoking init scripts through /etc/init.d, use the service(8)
utility, e.g. service qemu-kvm start

Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an
Upstart job, you may also use the start(8) utility, e.g. start qemu-kvm
start: Job failed to start
$ sudo start qemu-kvm
start: Job failed to start

It does not seems to be running:

$ sudo service qemu-kvm status
qemu-kvm stop/waiting

And when I am using virtual machine manager it warns "KVM is not
available. This may mean the KVM package is not installed or the KVM
kernel modules are not loaded."

I expect that after the update (and subsequent power cycling of the
computer) I should be able to use KVM.

[Bug 1218118] Re: FFE for Xen 4.3

2013-08-28 Thread Chuck Short
*  Early support for ARM 32- (ARMv7) and 64-bit (ARMv8) architectures
* qemu-upstream is now the default for VMs not using stub domains. You can
change this by adding device_model_version = "qemu-xen-traditional" to your
config file.
* openvswitch hot-plug script support. See the Open vSwitch section of Xen
Networking for more details.
NUMA affinity for the scheduler
 * xl can now accept several USB devices, rather than only one, using the
following syntax: usbdevice=["device1","device2",...] The old format is still
supported.
 * XSM improvements. XSM can now override all IS_PRIV checks in the hypervisor.
As always, a number of stability, performance, and security enhancements
"under the hood".

Thanks for reporting this bug. I tried to reproduce it in saucy, but
didn't get any prompt. Could you tell us which release you are on, and
any other steps (beside 'apt-get install libpam-mount) needed to
reproduce?

[Bug 1181777] Re: kvm: freeze a guest with a NIC PCI passthrough

2013-08-28 Thread Serge Hallyn
Hi,

the backported saucy ipxe packages have finished building in my ppa. Please
download
them using

wget
https://launchpad.net/~serge-hallyn/+archive/virt/+files/kvm-ipxe_1.0.0%2Bgit-20130710.936134e-0ubuntu1.12.04.1%7Eppa1_all.deb
wget
https://launchpad.net/~serge-hallyn/+archive/virt/+files/ipxe-qemu_1.0.0%2Bgit-20130710.936134e-0ubuntu1.12.04.1%7Eppa1_all.deb
wget
https://launchpad.net/~serge-hallyn/+archive/virt/+files/ipxe_1.0.0%2Bgit-20130710.936134e-0ubuntu1.12.04.1%7Eppa1_all.deb

then install them using 'dpkg -i'.

(Note to self - if this solves the problem, then we'll need to finagle the
package to move ipxe-qemu back into kvm-ipxe)

[Bug 1217950] Re: SSH public key isn't created in vagrant cloud images

2013-08-28 Thread Moshe Katz
This appears to be a problem in certain daily builds only. I don't have
the exact dates of when it started and stopped working, but I was able
to reproduce several times in June, July, and August. After that, I was
unable to reproduce using a build made on August 20th, 2013, but then I
was able to reproduce it (with a 32-bit build) after that.

[Bug 1217933] Re: update-grub fails to detect other md OS

2013-08-28 Thread Peter Petrakis
Right. multipath is for SANs, not RAIDs. Seeing that both of your
arrays are up and running however implies a grub configuration problem.

[Bug 1217933] Re: update-grub fails to detect other md OS

2013-08-28 Thread Paul Crawford
Why might it be a mdadm problem?
All of the md devices are up and accessible from the 64-bit OS, and the
/etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf file appears to match the output of the command ' mdadm
--detail --scan' suggesting it is correct. Even if I mount the previous 32-bit
systems root partition (that just works if I click on the device in nautilus)
there is still no sign of update-grub recognising that has an OS installed on
it.

[Bug 1217933] [NEW] update-grub fails to detect other md OS

2013-08-28 Thread Paul Crawford
Public bug reported:

I have a system with two main HDD configured as several md RAID-1 devices and I
installed the 32-bit version of 12.04.2 on to one of these partitions (using
the "alternate installer" ISO), with most of the others being user data (e.g.
one for /home, another for virtual machines, etc). I had one md partition free
and then installed the 64-bit version (12.04.3) on to that, again using the
alternate installer.
However, after the installation it is unaware of the 1st system, so running
update-grub fails to add that to the boot menu and I am not able to dual-boot
32 & 64 bit systems. This worked OK previously with a hardware RAID card, but
that was true hardware RAID and presented the disks as a single SCSI device.

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS
Release:12.04

$ apt-cache policy multipath-tools
multipath-tools:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 0.4.9-3ubuntu5
  Version table:
 0.4.9-3ubuntu5 0
500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages

I expect the OS probing to detect other operating systems, in particular
to detect another instance of Ubuntu.

  [NOTES]
  vUDS 1304 Notes:
http://pad.ubuntu.com/uds-1305-servercloud-s-juju-charmhelper2

  --- UDS Discussion ---

We've learned a lot since the creation of charm helper. Debian packagers
took 7 iterations before boiling all of debhelper's goodness into a
declarative system. We can learn from them, and get there in our second
iteration.
  Discussion:
Charm-helper is not easily discoverable, poorly documented, and not as
awesome as it could be.
  dannf likes to write makefiles
  sources list
  config settings with meaning
want common things to go in a declarative charm
get rid of copied lib files/folder
Maintain charm-helper seperately from juju, calling it at the top of the hook
vs included in juju trunk
What happens during upgrade-charm or if a pakcage gets removed?
Juju can't help with leader election across units of a service, but
charm-helper could)
  Work:
  - describe how to handle lifecycle changes for packages in
charm-helper/packages (also thinkof: upgrade-charm)
  - install packages
  - debconf preseeding too
  - templating and/or building config files with dotd/concat partials
(erb_template _and_ cheetah_template helpers)?
  - remote_files
  - deploy from {distro,ppa,upstream?} ?
  - Manage config files (dynamic, static, etc)
  - Sanitize relation settings (potential risk of SQL Ejection, highjacking,
terror)
  - Plugin based for easy extension of charm-helper
  - leader election (perhaps somewhere other than charmhelper)
  - private files (SSL certs) ... no clue...
  - Collaborate on files that no charm "owns"

  ---
  [notes from cloudsprint 2013-05]
  - Wedgewood has “Charm Support” which is used in IS and online services charms
    - Python based library
    - Covers debian packaging
  -
    - Command line interface
  - Bash support via argparse
    - Has hook env for handling various hook specific items (nrpe, relation
data, etc)
    - Exec.d allows you to pre-seed stuff in to charm prior to deployment to
perform “pre-install” tasks
  - Handles items as exec.d/charm-pre-install in various hooks by invoking
the matching command
    - “Rudimentary” persistent storage support
    - Charm helpers doesn’t do what they wanted it to. Charm-helpers wasn’t a
known until after using charm support.
  - OpenStack has “openstack-charm-helpers” which is used by the OpenStack
charms for deployment
    - Configuration/relation abstracting for easier python support
    - “Storage” management like charm-support
    - Conditional restart of services, mapping dicts to services to manage
restart of services
    - Caching of juju environment data, to speed up hook execution
    - Local file syncs between peers
  - Bi-directional file xfer between peers
    - Didn’t use it because: Primitive, moving too fast, and didn’t achieve
anything they needed at the time.
     - Current work: lp:~openstack-charmers/openstack-charm-helpers/ha-helpers

  Gary’s Ideas:
   - Python helpers of charm-helpers
    - Three levels of stuff
  - Shelltoolbox
  - Current charm helpers
  - some random lib stuff?
    - utils.py branch/release management
    - backend.py specify repos that a config wants, packages. Does really cool
python stuff

TIME TO GET DOWN TO BUSINESS
   - Salt/chef/puppet for potential dropins to research. Configuration
management tools and how they solve this
   - Look at openstack for management of shared libraries
   - Python package
     - Sub packages and modules
    - Merge proposals for charms, make libs not txt?

  Marco scratch
   machine.py for machine level functionality

[Bug 1217889] [NEW] pwmconfig gets outdated on every reboot

2013-08-28 Thread Rakesh Iyer
Public bug reported:

ubuntu version- 13.04

fancontrol version--

fancontrol:
  Installed: 1:3.3.2-2ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1:3.3.2-2ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 1:3.3.2-2ubuntu1 0
500 http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ raring/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

every time i reboot the system and run
sudo fancontrol
i always get the error device configuration is outdated ,run pwmconfig again

Usually the problem is the devices listed as hwmon0/* have changed to
hwmon1/* or vice versa.

Fancontrol is not started at boot as the pwmconfig is wrong anyways, so
i have to run pwmconfig and save the changes.

Once this is done fancontrol runs fine.

[Bug 1181777] Re: kvm: freeze a guest with a NIC PCI passthrough

2013-08-28 Thread Serge Hallyn
I've tried some more setups like having a virtio nic on virbr0 and a
second e1000 nic on br0, where only br0 was on a network with a pxeboot
server - but wasn't able to reproduce. So it appears to be purely PCI
passthrough.

I'm building a package (in the same ppa) which is the saucy ipxe, built
for precise. It built and installed fine for me locally. I'll post
another comment when it is ready for testing.

[Bug 1217730] [NEW] lxc-create help text error

2013-08-28 Thread NeilGreenwood
Public bug reported:

There is a typo in the output of
  lxc-create --help

specifically the --lxcpath line has 2 issues:
1 It should start "-P, --lxcpath"
2 It says "patch" instead of "path"

$ lxc-create --help
usage: lxc-create -n NAME [-f CONFIG_FILE] [-t TEMPLATE] [FS_OPTIONS] --
 [-P lxcpath] [TEMPLATE_OPTIONS]

where FS_OPTIONS is one of:
  -B none
  -B dir [--dir rootfs_dir]
  -B lvm [--lvname LV_NAME] [--vgname VG_NAME] [--fstype FS_TYPE]
[--fssize FS_SIZE]
  -B btrfs

Create a new container on the system.

Options:
-n NAMEspecify the name of the container
-f CONFIG_FILE use an existing configuration file
-t TEMPLATEuse an accessible template script
-B BACKING_STORE alter the container backing store (default: none)
--lxcpath path specify an alternate container patch (default:
/var/lib/lxc)
--lvname LV_NAME specify the LVM logical volume name
  (default: container name)
--dir ROOTFS_DIR specify path for custom rootfs directory location
--vgname VG_NAME specify the LVM volume group name (default: lxc)
--fstype FS_TYPE specify the filesystem type (default: ext4)
--fssize FS_SIZE specify the filesystem size (default: 500M)

To see template-specific options, specify a template. For example:
  lxc-create -t ubuntu -h

I have looked at the package source, and I can see that lxc-create.in
needs the changes, but I don't know how to go about making them. I am
very keen to help if I can.

[Bug 1198882] Re: __toString() which stores $this reference triggers segfault

2013-08-28 Thread Alexey Skryabin
** Description changed:

- DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS"
- php --version
- PHP 5.3.10-1ubuntu3.6 with Suhosin-Patch

  }

  $a = new A;
  echo trim($a);
  echo trim($a->a);

crashes in CLI, and run as php mod in apache

+ php --version
+ PHP 5.3.10-1ubuntu3.6 with Suhosin-Patch
