[Bug 1172467] Re: Dnsmasq caches negative results if it starts before the network is up

2013-08-29 Thread Thomas Hood
Jérôme, it's nice to hear that it is working correctly, but which of the
following is the case?

1. Dnsmasq is working correctly in the standard factory configuration.
2. It is working with no-negcache mode activated.
3. It is working with clear-on-reload mode activated.
4. It is working and the circumstances under which the problem occurs haven't
presented themselves again.

[Bug 1214982] Re: Ubuntu theme in Havana is broken

2013-08-29 Thread Adam Gandelman
First, it looks like the traceback in the original report is using a
different configuration than the default we ship. We ship with
COMPRESS_OFFLINE = True, but by the looks of the traceback it was
enabled. Would be interested in the configs used there.

That said, the default saucy package we're shipping atm is definitely
broken. The ubuntu theme, however, is not culprit. It is "good"
although the theme itself could use a general refresh for Havana.

Installing it currently requires working around Bug #1218535 and Bug
#1216019.

After installed and enabled and making the minimal config in /etc
/openstack-dashboard/local_settings.py to point to my keystone server,
the dashboard is expected to function. However, I get a 500 and
compression exception in apache error log:

OfflineGenerationError: You have offline compression enabled but key
"3ddd89d27fa2e162d4efd30c103a072b" is missing from offline manifest. You
may need to run "python manage.py compress".

This would typically mean the pre-compressed JS and CSS we ship with the
package are outdated but in this case django.core.base:BaseHandler is
catching and masking a SuspiciousOperation exception (Invalid HTTP_HOST
header (you may need to set ALLOWED_HOSTS) and continuing to process
the request. As far as I can tell (as a django novice), this is
causing templates to later be rendered with empty/incomplete contexts
that lack STATIC_URL, and messing with the hashing algorithm used by
compressor to map requested URLs to the compressed files, which results
in the OfflineGenerationError / key error.

As a work around in the meantime, adding ALLOWED_HOSTS = '*' to /etc
/openstack-dashboard/local_settings.py should resolve it.

We either need to find a sane default for ALLOWED_HOSTS or help fix
horizon so such errors cause fast failures.

** Summary changed:

- Ubuntu theme in Havana is broken
+ STATIC_URL is missing in context if ALLOWED_HOSTS not set.

Re: [Bug 1217730] [NEW] lxc-create help text error

2013-08-29 Thread Serge Hallyn
Hi,

thanks for submitting this bug. lxc-create, upstream, has been
converted from a script to a c file (lxc_create.c). We will
shortly be merging upstream lxc back into saucy, however that
won't go into raring (which you're using) - so this means you have
a choice :)

You were right to look at lxc-create.in. I'll be happy to guide you
through the process, but I'm not sure what you mean by "don't know how
to go about making them". I suspect you're asking about how the
package is created from the source, and specifically how lxc-create
is created from lxc-create.in? lxc-create is generated by autoconf,
which processes lxc-create.in in order to expand a few configurable
variables (like @DATADIR@). One way to download the source for
saucy (not sure which way you did it) is

pull-lp-source lxc
cd lxc-0.9.0

The package is in 'quilt 3.0' format, which means changes to any
source need to be done using patches under debian/patches. The
easiest way for you to do this would be to first create the new
(empty) patch using

quilt new 0015-fix-lxc-create-help-text

then edit lxc-create.in using the command

quilt edit src/lxc/lxc-create.in

After making and saving your changes, you can update the patch
using

quilt refresh

Now debian/patches/0015-fix-lxc-create-help-text contains your patch.
You can simply attach that file to this bug if you like. If you want
to build the package so as to test it, you can install all the lxc
build dependencies using

sudo apt-get build-dep lxc

then build the package using

debian/rules build && fakeroot debian/rules binary

This will generate .deb files which you can install to test the package.

[Bug 1181777] Re: kvm: freeze a guest with a NIC PCI passthrough

2013-08-29 Thread Serge Hallyn
I don't believe it can be the qemu-kvm package, since upstream qemu git
HEAD didn't fix it, while it wasn't broken on centos.

Can you show 'dpkg -l | grep ipxe' on the system from comment #19?

If the new ipxe didn't solve it, then my next guess would be seabios...

[Bug 1218508] Re: FFE 13.10: ubuntucloud lxc and kvm tools

2013-08-29 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1218508/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

** Description changed:

hard to reproduce

When starting a container that has 'lxc.aa_profile = unconfined' on its

[Bug 1218535] [NEW] openstack-dashboard no longer installs a functioning webserver

2013-08-29 Thread Adam Gandelman
Public bug reported:

Previously, installing openstack-dashboard would install an apache2
server (if required) and configure and add a configuration entry for the
dashboard. Using saucy, this is no longer the case. apache2-bin is
installed, but there is no server running, nothing listening on port 80,
and only the minimal required apache config installed in /etc/apache2:

./conf.d
./conf.d/openstack-dashboard.conf
./mods-available
./mods-available/wsgi.conf
./mods-available/wsgi.load

[Bug 1218530] [NEW] FFE 13.10: curtin new development

2013-08-29 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

[Description]
Curtin is the "fast path installer" being developed to run inside a rich
environment and install a prepared image (cloud image or maas ephemeral image)
to a disk, make necessary adjustments, and then reboot.

It has just landed in archive, but will need some improvements for
usability and further integration with maas.

[Proposed Changes]
The new features that are still needed from curtin are:
 * support for copying from / inside overlayfs root
 * network setup improvements, allowing the user to specify network
configuration.
 * finalization code for getting bootloaders installed onto disk so system
reboots successfully.
 * general code clean ups and improvements
 * selection and installation of kernel if not present in image.

[Regression Potential]
There is very little expectation for regression at this point. curtin is a new
package and not used by many users.

[Bug 1218526] [NEW] FFE 13.10: maas ubuntu integration of new upstream development

2013-08-29 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

[Description]
Upstream work will be occuring in maas over the next month that we would like
to take advantage of in Ubuntu.

[Proposed Changes]
We'd like to do upload to ubuntu maas that includes new functionality being
developed. That function includes:
 * utilization of the simplestreams data at http://maas.ubuntu.com/ to keep
ephemeral (and possibly installable) images up to date locally and ready for
installation. This will also address 2 issues we have, first that we can
currently only download images over a secure link (https) and second that we
are not deleting ephemeral images after they're imported.
 * use of simplestreams data to provide d-i kernel and initramfs without
scraping archive.ubuntu.com.
 * [possible] LLDP work
 * ability for user to specify 'install-data' in addition to 'user-data' that
they can do now. This allows the user to pass "preseed" data through to the
installer to affect disk installation layout or kernel selection or other
things that really need to be setup in the installer.
 * integration with curtin package for faster and reliable installation.
 * improvements to simplestreams to use the ubuntu-cloudimage-keyring keyring
(currently only can use user's keyring)

** Affects: maas (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1218508] [NEW] FFE 13.10: ubuntucloud lxc and kvm tools

2013-08-29 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

ubuntucloud is a new upstream source in development that will provide command
line utilities that
 * keep a local libvirt storage pool in sync with images available from
cloud-images.ubuntu.com
 * keep a local lxc container source-pool in sync with images on
cloud-images.ubuntu.com
 * provide 'uc-libvirt-kvm' and 'uc-libvirt-lxc' commands for launching an
instance based on those up to date "images"
 * are used by Juju to create containers of lxc or kvm type.

There should be no real potential for regression as these will all be
new packages. The availability of these packages will essentially make
users able to launch kvm or lxc containers much like they do with
schroot, but with the cloud images instead.

These packages are in development right now and should be available by
mid september.

[Proposed Changes]
 * inclusion of a new source package that provides 4 binary packages:
   * uc-simplestreams-libvirt
   * uc-libvirt-kvm
   * uc-simplestreams-lxc
   * uc-lxc

[Bug 1218506] [NEW] [FFE] Add disk formating support for Cloud-init

2013-08-29 Thread Ben Howard
Public bug reported:

This is a feature freeze exception for Cloud-init for Saucy. The
SmartOS/Joyent datasource needs to format the ephemeral device. In order
to do this properly, cloud-init needs to be capable of partitioning and
formating the ephemeral device.

The required change will be to add to cloud-init's configuration modules
"cc_disk_format.py", which will handle basic disk partitioning and
formating. Additionally, new documentation will land. The decision over
whether or not to format will be controlled by user-data and/or a built-
in datasource.

The impact of not having support for disk formating is that on
SmartOS/Joyent hosts, the ephemeral device will not be prepared.

Benefits:
- SmartOS/Joyent ephemeral disks will be formated at provisioning time
- Users will be able to define the filesystesm of the ephemeral disks

[Bug 1218459] [NEW] nova-compute-kvm does not function without manually loading kvm module

2013-08-29 Thread Adam Gandelman
Public bug reported:

Note: This bug affects the precise-havana Ubuntu Cloud Archive pocket
only.

In saucy (and Havana UCA), changes were introduced to the qemu package
that modified how the CPU-specific kvm-intel/kvm-amd get loaded at
package installation time. Where it was previously modprobe'd from a
maintainer script, it now relies on entirely on udev and modalias magic
to automatically load the correct kvm-* module for the current CPU at
boot.

This works fine in Saucy, however this all depends on 3.5+ kernels.
When using the UCA on precise with the default 3.2, we end up needing to
manually load the kvm_intel module before nova-compute-kvm+libvirt can
do anything useful.

Short of back-porting a newer kernel to UCA, it was proposed that we
carry a small delta in the qemu package that reinstates the previous
module loading.

  --- UDS Discussion ---

We've learned a lot since the creation of charm helper. Debian packagers
took 7 iterations before boiling all of debhelper's goodness into a
declarative system. We can learn from them, and get there in our second
iteration.
  Discussion:
Charm-helper is not easily discoverable, poorly documented, and not as
awesome as it could be.
  dannf likes to write makefiles
  sources list
  config settings with meaning
want common things to go in a declarative charm
get rid of copied lib files/folder
Maintain charm-helper seperately from juju, calling it at the top of the hook
vs included in juju trunk
What happens during upgrade-charm or if a pakcage gets removed?
Juju can't help with leader election across units of a service, but
charm-helper could)
  Work:
  - describe how to handle lifecycle changes for packages in
charm-helper/packages (also thinkof: upgrade-charm)
  - install packages
  - debconf preseeding too
  - templating and/or building config files with dotd/concat partials
(erb_template _and_ cheetah_template helpers)?
  - remote_files
  - deploy from {distro,ppa,upstream?} ?
  - Manage config files (dynamic, static, etc)
  - Sanitize relation settings (potential risk of SQL Ejection, highjacking,
terror)
  - Plugin based for easy extension of charm-helper
  - leader election (perhaps somewhere other than charmhelper)
  - private files (SSL certs) ... no clue...
  - Collaborate on files that no charm "owns"

  ---
  [notes from cloudsprint 2013-05]
  - Wedgewood has “Charm Support” which is used in IS and online services charms
    - Python based library
    - Covers debian packaging
  -
    - Command line interface
  - Bash support via argparse
    - Has hook env for handling various hook specific items (nrpe, relation
data, etc)
    - Exec.d allows you to pre-seed stuff in to charm prior to deployment to
perform “pre-install” tasks
  - Handles items as exec.d/charm-pre-install in various hooks by invoking
the matching command
    - “Rudimentary” persistent storage support
    - Charm helpers doesn’t do what they wanted it to. Charm-helpers wasn’t a
known until after using charm support.
  - OpenStack has “openstack-charm-helpers” which is used by the OpenStack
charms for deployment
    - Configuration/relation abstracting for easier python support
    - “Storage” management like charm-support
    - Conditional restart of services, mapping dicts to services to manage
restart of services
    - Caching of juju environment data, to speed up hook execution
    - Local file syncs between peers
  - Bi-directional file xfer between peers
    - Didn’t use it because: Primitive, moving too fast, and didn’t achieve
anything they needed at the time.
     - Current work: lp:~openstack-charmers/openstack-charm-helpers/ha-helpers

  Gary’s Ideas:
   - Python helpers of charm-helpers
    - Three levels of stuff
  - Shelltoolbox
  - Current charm helpers
  - some random lib stuff?
    - utils.py branch/release management
    - backend.py specify repos that a config wants, packages. Does really cool
python stuff

TIME TO GET DOWN TO BUSINESS
   - Salt/chef/puppet for potential dropins to research. Configuration
management tools and how they solve this
   - Look at openstack for management of shared libraries
   - Python package
     - Sub packages and modules
    - Merge proposals for charms, make libs not txt?

  Marco scratch
   machine.py for machine level functionality

[Bug 1218426] Re: [FFe] LXC 1.0~alpha1 in saucy

2013-08-29 Thread Serge Hallyn
** Description changed:

  Hello,

I'd like to request a Freeze Exception for LXC 1.0~alpha1 to be uploaded
to saucy as soon as it's actually released upstream.

Saucy currently ships LXC 0.9 with a dozen of cherry-picks for various bug
fixes and features from LXC 1.0.
As Ubuntu 14.04 LTS will be shipping LXC 1.0 stable, we'd like to have 13.10
ship to something as close as possible to that to maximize exposure to some of
the new code.

The major changes that happened so far in LXC 1.0 upstream are:
   - Rebasing of the various commands on the LXC API (dropping various shell
scripts and switching to C equivalents)
   - New implementation of container cloning and snapshotting
+ - Overlayfs clones of regular containers
+ - Improved console handling (including SIGWINCH handling on lxc-start
console)
   - Cleaner backing store support directly in LXC core
   - Support for building with current Android NDK
   - Quite a lot of additions to the LXC API and its bindings
   - Initial work towards unprivileged LXC containers
+ - Improved stability with respect to threaded callers
   - The usual set of templates improvements and bug fixes

The LXC git branch is currently built for Ubuntu 12.04, 12.10, 13.04 and
13.10 on amd64 and i386, as well as armhf for 13.10 and against the
Android NDK. Serge and I, as well as possibly a dozen more people are
using those packages daily, so we're pretty confident that upstream git
is stable and that 1.0~alpha1 is suitable for saucy.

Currently two products ship with LXC by default, Edubuntu (used by arkose)
and Ubuntu Touch (used for the android container).
I'm the point of contact for both of those use cases and will test 1.0~alpha1
on those two products prior to uploading to the archive.

[Bug 1215014] Re: ceph-osd from Folsom leaks memory constantly

2013-08-29 Thread James Page
Hi James

Any chance you could enable the profiler following:

http://ceph.com/docs/master/rados/troubleshooting/memory-profiling/

I have a hunch that this might actually be related to the version of
google-perftools with have in precise - but this at least will give us
some more information about what's chewing memory.

Cheers

James

[Bug 1218341] [NEW] [SRU] Ceph 0.56.7 point release upgrade

2013-08-29 Thread James Page
Public bug reported:

Ceph upstream just released a point release for 0.56.x:

 * ceph-fuse: create finisher flags after fork()
 * debian: fix prerm/postinst hooks; do not restart daemons on upgrade
 * librados: fix async aio completion wakeup (manifests as rbd hang)
 * librados: fix hang when osd becomes full and then not full
 * librados: fix locking for aio completion refcounting
 * librbd python bindings: fix stripe_unit, stripe_count
 * librbd: make image creation default configurable
 * mon: fix validation of mds ids in mon commands
 * osd: avoid excessive disk updates during peering
 * osd: avoid excessive memory usage on scrub
 * osd: avoid heartbeat failure/suicide when scrubbing
 * osd: misc minor bug fixes
 * osd: use fdatasync instead of sync_file_range (may avoid xfs power-loss
   corruption)
 * rgw: escape prefix correctly when listing objects
 * rgw: fix copy attrs
 * rgw: fix crash on multi delete
 * rgw: fix locking/crash when using ops log socket
 * rgw: fix usage logging
 * rgw: handle deep uri resources

I'll upload this to raring-proposed under the provisional MRE that we
have in place.

What about creating a separate packages autofs-sss (similar to autofs-

Apart from that is there an easy way to obtain a patched autofs package
or do I have to compile my own version if I want to use it?
