I've found I also need to set the hostname in smb.conf, and specify how to relate to lanmanager netbios name = name resolve order = wins bcast lmhosts host client lanman auth = yes client ntlmv2 auth = no I've checked this out thoroughly from an Ubuntu 12.04 client on a vanilla network (adsl router linked by ethernet to multiple machines) using both a 10.04 and a 12.04 host. Re: [Bug 1021699] Re: fetchmail: IDLE - multiple daemons should be started
The limitation is documented, and I have always been considering killing the IDLE option upstream. Some server NOTIFY extension that is not as limited as IDLE is, might help, but I don't know how widespread that is. [Bug 1258219] Re: smbclient 'put' fails with absolute path to local file
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I've always taken this behaviour to be intentional. In your case, I'd expect your script to sort out what it wants to do with the paths, and then call smbclient appropriately. The "dirname" and "basename" shell commands can help you with this. If you still consider this a bug, then I can appreciate that, but I don't think it would make sense for Ubuntu to diverge from upstream on this. So, the appropriate action would be to verify that the upstream source exhibits the same behaviour by building samba directly from upstream sources, and if it does then to consult upstream for their opinion. If Ubuntu's behaviour is different, then please report this as I think this would be a bug in Ubuntu's packaging of samba. Since this isn't a priority to resolve in Ubuntu itself, and a workaround is possible, I'm setting the Importance for this to Low. ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1258219 Title: smbclient 'put' fails with absolute path to local file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1258219/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1258219] [NEW] smbclient 'put' fails with absolute path to local file
Public bug reported: smbclient 2:3.6.3-2ubuntu2.6 on Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS When issuing command similar to "smbclient --user=DOMAIN/domainuser -c "put /path/to/file.zip" //Machine/Share machinePassword rather than upload the local file /path/to/file.zip to remote //Machine/Share as expected, smbclient complains with the error "NT_STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_INVALID opening remote file \/path/to/file.zip" At the moment, for a workaround, we are using -c "lcd /path/to; put file.zip" which has been working, but this only works because the very simple script knows the absolute paths for the files we are backing up. ** Affects: samba (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1258219 Title: smbclient 'put' fails with absolute path to local file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1258219/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1204530] Re: yppasswd results in a segmentation fault when run on clients or server
As I looked back at everything I did before I see that I had tested the updates in Virtualbox using the 32 bit Xubuntu releases. For the 32 bit releases the segmentation violation began when I updated the client from 12.10 to 13.04. I reran the same experiment in virtualbox last night and still got the same behavior with the 32 bit releases: current release of 12.04 LTS on the server works, 12.10 works, 13.04 fails. I have an older CD burned that I labeled Xubuntu 64 bit 12.04.1 LTS available. I'll try the same experiment starting with that one when I get some time to get a 64 bit virtualbox running on my current platform. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to nis in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1204530 Title: yppasswd results in a segmentation fault when run on clients or server To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nis/+bug/1204530/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1021699] Re: fetchmail: IDLE - multiple daemons should be started
A suitable grep | wc pipeline could check and issue a warning, but the whole point of my patch is that at the moment there is no way to have more than one account if one of them is using IDLE. There is no problem with having multiple accounts per daemon (config file) if no IDLE is in use. If IDLE is used, then that connection will only terminate on a network error, and other accounts will not be queried more than once (depending on position in the file.) At the moment the sysadmin can 'lock up' their fetchmail daemon by adding the perfectly legal 'idle' annotation to one command. My patch does not stop this, but provides a mechanism to use it safely. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to fetchmail in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1021699 Title: fetchmail: IDLE - multiple daemons should be started To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fetchmail/+bug/1021699/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
