[Bug 1282630] Re: [FFE] remove sudo support

2014-03-26 Thread Robie Basak
Thanks Francesco. I've copied your summary to the bug description and
updated the bug title so that it's current to what we want to do now.

** Description changed:

- Quickstart currently supports using sudo so that it can launch a local
- lxc juju environment. Once Juju 1.18 support is released this is no
- longer required for quickstart to function. We'd like to be able to
- remove the sudo support form quickstart once 1.18 lands in trusty so
- that we do not have to maintain the potential attack vector in the
- package.
+ We just released on PyPi the new 1.2.0 release of quickstart.
+ Juju core 1.17.2 introduced sudo support for local environments, which
required changes to how quickstart works: calling sudo is now handled by juju
itself, and for this reason quickstart no longer requires to request sudo
privileges when bootstrapping the environment.

- 1.18 is said to be approx 2weeks away and has a feature freeze exception
- for 14.04 currently. We estimate it would take 2-3 days to remove our
- sudo functionality and qa that after 1.18 lands.
+ A comprehensive list of changes introduced by the current release follow:
+ - Support for promulgated bundle URLs, e.g. “juju quickstart
bundle:mediawiki/single”.
+ - Improved application help and installation instructions.
+ - Updates to the dependency list and to Juju version handling.
+ - Manifest file fixes.
+ - Do not use sudo when bootstrapping a local env if juju version = 1.17.2.

- This would be a new micro release of quickstart as the functionality of
- it would not change, just the *how* it implements that functionality.
-
- No other packages depend on quickstart and changes will not effect
- anything else.
+ Dependencies did not change:
+ jujuclient==0.17.5
+ PyYAML==3.10
+ urwid==1.1.1

** Summary changed:

- [FFE] remove sudo support
+ [FFe] Upgrade juju-quickstart to new upstream release 1.2.0

[Bug 1273865] Re: [MIR] juju-quickstart, python-jujuclient, urwid, websocket-client

2014-03-26 Thread Robie Basak
@Michael

  - I see there's a bug about removing sudo support, which would be
nice to see land.

Agreed. This is ready now but has been awaiting feature freeze exception
in bug 1282630. Could you perhaps grant the MIR conditional on this
going in if you feel it is required?

 - Can you explain what all the PPA adding and pulling in packages from
universe is about? Why not depend on juju-core directly, or is this
installation done on other machines?

Francesco, Gary or Rick would probably be best to answer this; I'll pass
the question to them.

[Bug 1297691] [NEW] ADS data crippled after joining Samba into active MS domain

2014-03-26 Thread Jochen Wezel
Public bug reported:

after joining Samba 4.1.6 into our domain with 2 MS Win2008 R2 DCs on last
Friday, we had got 2 accidents:
1. one of our users couldn't access his Exchange account any more (the relation
to the correct mailbox database was empty) 2. Exchange 2010 Outlook Web Access
(OWA) fails today on Monday with following error message:
   [PS] C:\Windows\system32Get-OwaVirtualDirectory

   NameServer
   OwaVersion

Maybe the OWA failure is caused by a power disconnections this weekend -
but 2 errors in such a close time frame are unlikely.

Are there any problems e.g. while replication that might cause a data
corruption in ADS?

My System:

[Bug 1297705] [NEW] keystone logrotate configuration causing service disruption

2014-03-26 Thread Magesh GV
Public bug reported:

Logrotate is configured to rotate the keystone logs every 24 hours.

The problem is that restart keystone is added after logrotate. This
causes a disruption in service.

/var/log/keystone/keystone.log {
daily
missingok
rotate 5
postrotate
restart keystone /dev/null 21 || true
endscript
compress
delaycompress
notifempty
}

Just removing the line restart keystone /dev/null 21 || true fixes
this problem. Moreover, logging also happens to keystone.log itself
rather than keystone.log.1 even when logrotate is triggered after
deleting the restart line.

[Bug 1258286] Re: CAcert should not be trusted by default

2014-03-26 Thread luckyrings
Sorry guy, I just have to comment. I am asking again, why should CAcert
be removed? The reason why it should be removed is just because of
unprooven cncerns about CAcert's code quality and the audit which
appears to be stalled? I guess that Ubuntu responsible should contact
CAcert to get invitation in their internal auditation process first
before doing so. And generally I have to add again. If this is the only
reason, then should be also removed the other CA Certificates which use
also dubious methods for providing certificates or have weak
identification checks for customers.

[Bug 1297942] [NEW] MAAS overwrites DEFAULT_MAAS_URL on upgrade

[Bug 1267393] Re: [MIR] juju-core, juju-mongodb, gccgo-go, gccgo-4.9, golang

2014-03-26 Thread James Page
Jamie

Reading you comments in #16, it sounds like option 3) (statically
linking with golang but just for juju-core) is a no-go; I don't believe
that options 1) or 2) can be implemented for 14.04 so I think that means
that juju-core is effectively blocked from main entry for this release?

It would be good to get a clear statement from both the foundations and
security team in the context of 14.04.

[Bug 1273865] Re: [MIR] juju-quickstart, python-jujuclient, urwid, websocket-client

2014-03-26 Thread Richard Harding
@Michael

 - Can you explain what all the PPA adding and pulling in packages from
universe is about? Why not depend on juju-core directly, or is this
installation done on other machines?

Quickstart is meant to provide a nice single point to get developers and
users started with Juju as fast and effortlessly as possible. It's meant
to be a useful tool for users that will be expecting to work on Juju and
the latest versions so that they're developing against current and
upcoming work. It's not intended to be a production tool for managing
your critical production deployments.

This is something that we came at from our typical user point of view,
and didn't properly consider the implications for the repositories.
We've started work to support a --distro-only flag to quickstart that
will allow it to function without adding and fetching Juju from the PPA.
This should allow users that wish to stick with the version in distro to
do so, but allow most users to quickly get a development environment on
the current version going with a single command.

Let me know if you'd prefer to approach this differently. Our goal is to
help ease the onramp to Juju for users and, and eventually we hope to
get quickstart on the cd so that, from a fresh install, you'd be able
to get Juju running with a local LXC environment right away. The goal
would not be to get Juju, mongodb, and lxc all built into the cd or on
main. It's a starting point and not a complete wrapper.

[Bug 1267393] Re: [MIR] juju-core, juju-mongodb, gccgo-go, gccgo-4.9, golang

2014-03-26 Thread Adam Conrad
Upstream released jujud binaries are/will be distributed officially via
simplestreams using a documented build process (details TBC).

I've said it before, and I'll reiterate, this is fundamentally broken.
A package in the archive shouldn't have have of its binaries not in the
archive. This *must* be a solvable problem.

If the problem is that the package can't be BUILT in the archive, then
this isn't remotely suitable for main. Otherwise, I don't see what the
blocker is at all. Just package up those binaries, and done.

What fundamental flaw in the process is being hidden by shipping
binaries outside the archive? Does the build system pull random deps
from the internet, does it pull prebuilt objects from the internet, sans
source code (again, absolutely unacceptable for main).

2014-03-26 Thread James Page
@Adam

The jujud binary that is distributed via simplestreams can be built in
the archive - its currently done in PPA for older Ubuntu releases as it
requires a newer version of golang than we have in 12.04 - but for 14.04
I think the binary is actually picked from the packages in the archive.

I'll let one of the juju-core team respond on why the binary is
distributed this way.

[Bug 1267393] Re: [MIR] juju-core, juju-mongodb, gccgo-go, gccgo-4.9, golang

2014-03-26 Thread Mark Ramm
@adam

We *can* build and include tools binaries in the package. And in fact
for many tools, we extract them from the builds, and upload them to a
central distribution point (which uses the same toolchain as the ubuntu
cloud images catalog -- simplestreams.

But, we don't distribute the tools binaries via ubuntu packages because
they aren't installed on the a juju client user's machine. So we aren't
pulling down binaries to extend what we package on the local machine --
we are pulling down binaries on the server side that the local juju
client talks too.

We MUST distribute them through another mechanism because they will need
to be chosen at workload deployment time based on whatever architecture,
series, juju client version, and OS combination that is being targeted
when that server is deployed. The key here is multi-OS support, we need
to be able to support other unix and non-unix OS's, and we want one,
standard code path for everything.

The local juju client package is not the right place for tools. This
has nothing to do with hiding anything, and our prefered mechanism is to
create the binaries in the archive -- where we don't we create them in
PPA's now, and we will document a secure process for building them for
non Ubuntu OS's as we start officially supporting those OS's next cycle.

We use simplestreams because we already have code that uses
simplestreams to select the right architecture, series, and version for
cloud images -- so we are re-using that same functionality to allow us
to fulfill our multi-platform mandate in a sane way.

Just so it's clear: the btmp code in loginrec is derived from login from
util-linux correct? If so that's BSD licensed (w/advertising clause) with UCB
as the copyright holder. Since UCB rescinded the advertising clause I think
we're OK to use the code.

+   debug(=== calling log_btmp uid %d ===\n, getuid());
+   og_btmp(authctxt-user,get_canonical_hostname(options.use_dns));

This bit is unnecessary, the PRIVSEP macro is for this purpose, ie:

debug(=== calling log_btmp uid %d ===\n, getuid());
PRIVSEP(log_btmp(authctxt-user,get_canonical_hostname(options.use_dns)));

+int mm_answer_log_btmp(int socket, Buffer *m){
[...]
+buffer_get(m, user ,1024);
+buffer_get(m, hostname ,1024);

Sending the username is unecessary as the monitor already knows it (ie
authctxt-user). Hostname can be determined too (see mm_record_login). As a
general rule, as little as possible should be sent from slave to monitor.

It's out of the scope of this bug but I'd prefer to see a generalized
audit_event like in bug #125 in both OpenBSD and Portable, which could be
easily extended to handle cases like this.

Yes referred from util-linux .

PRIVSEP(log_btmp(authctxt-user,get_canonical_hostname(options.use_dns)));

I tried this, PRIVSEP macro may require a redefinition in auth.c. since it
reports a linker error ld: Unsatisfied symbol PRIVSEP in file auth.o

You just need to add '#include monitor_wrap.h' to the headers of
auth.c.

You must be careful about licensing when importing code. Fortunately this part
of util-linux has a compatible license, but you still must include it when
adding derived code into loginrec.c.

[Bug 1291641] Re: iscsitarget-dkms 1.4.20.3+svn496-1ubuntu1: iscsitarget kernel module failed to build

2014-03-26 Thread gmoore777
I had logged bug 1293108, a duplicate of this bug, but I will log my
comment here as well.

Short Story:
The bug fix mentioned in comment #5 solved my compile error during the
installing of iscsitarget-dkms and iscsitarget.

Longer Story:
Today, 2014-03-26,
I updated my 64-bit Lubuntu Trusty Tahr with all packages, specifically,
iscsitarget-dkms, and iscsitarget version 1.4.20.3+svn499-0ubuntu1.

I then re-installed them via:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall iscsitarget-dkms
sudo apt-get install --reinstall iscsitarget

I was then able to proceed with setting up an iSCSI target on
machine #1, and set up an iSCSI client on machine #2 (and machine #1).

I was then able to backup files from machine #2, the iSCSI client, to
machine #1, the iSCSI target, via the iSCSI protocol.

I also was able to view and access this iSCSI target on machine #1 from
machine #1. (yes the same machine)

Note to self:
Since machine #1, now has a firewall (UFW) set up, I had to allow
tcp port 3260 so that machine #2 could make a connection.

Note to self:
Machine #1 takes an extra 90 seconds or so to boot up.
Not sure who's causing this: RAID, LVM, Encryption, or
the new iSCSI target and iSCSI client that I just got configured.

I do see this 90 second gap in /var/log/syslog:
...
Mar 26 17:24:05 bee005 ntpd_intres[1217]: parent died before we finished,
exiting
[89 second gap]

Software - version trunk
Mar 26 17:25:34 bee005 kernel: [  142.827883] iscsi_trgt: Registered io

...

Thank you for fixing the compile problem.

2014-03-26 Thread Adam Conrad
@Mark

So, if we can build them with the packages, what's stopping us from
having a package that includes the bits, and even depends on the right
things to set up a simplestreams provider that people can use on their
closed networks? Sure, that won't have ALL the binaries for all
supported platforms available, without a source to grab those from, but
it would keep it self-contained for the simple use-case.

I think you'd agree that the obvious and simple usecase isn't I
installed juju-core on my Ubuntu desktop so I can rollout charms on OSX
and Solaris.

[Bug 1298093] [NEW] iscsi_trgt: module verification failed

2014-03-26 Thread gmoore777
Public bug reported:

I am on 64-bit Lubuntu Trusty Tahr (development branch)
(64-bit Lubuntu nighlty build of 2014-03-14 with updates)
(this machine is set up with RAID-1, LVM, Encryption, iSCSI Target
and iSCSI client, in case that matters.)

Versions of iSCSI:
ii  iscsitarget  1.4.20.3+svn499-0ubuntu1
ii  iscsitarget-dkms   1.4.20.3+svn499-0ubuntu1

I have successfully set up an iSCSI target (and client).

But if I peek inside the /var/log/syslog,
I see this snippet:

Mar 26 17:56:29 bee005 rsyslogd: [origin software=rsyslogd swVersion=7.4.4
x-pid=710 x-info=http://www.rsyslog.com;] start

exiting
[89 second gap]
Mar 26 17:58:32 bee005 kernel: [  191.597648] iscsi_trgt: module verification
failed: signature and/or required key missing - tainting kernel
Mar 26 17:58:32 bee005 kernel: [  191.598233] iSCSI Enterprise Target Software
- version trunk
Mar 26 17:58:32 bee005 kernel: [  191.598297] iscsi_trgt: Registered io type
fileio
Mar 26 17:58:32 bee005 kernel: [  191.598299] iscsi_trgt: Registered io type
blockio
Mar 26 17:58:32 bee005 kernel: [  191.598301] iscsi_trgt: Registered io type
nullio
...

The machine is taking a noticeable a mount of time to boot up. (2+ minutes).
This snippet in syslog, makes me want to say that the iscsi_targt module in the
kernel has delayed
the booting up of the machine by 90-120 seconds due to the 89 second gap in the
syslog file, and that it's been 2 minutes 3 seconds since beginning of the
syslog.

Did some signature/key not get packaged in the latest and greatest packages of
iscsitarget and iscsitarget-dkms?
(and the kernel waits (or retires) for 120 seconds before continuing on?)

[Bug 1297487] Re: MTU not honored in virtio vnet

2014-03-26 Thread Serge Hallyn
Ok, sorry, in comment #4 you had said you were on 1.7. There are some
netdev commits between 1.7 and 2.0 so before marking this as affecting
upstream I wanted to make sure you'd tested git head (which you
effectively have).

[Bug 1298113] [NEW] Ubuntu missing nTLD RFC 3912 databases

2014-03-26 Thread Mt. Ng
Public bug reported:

According to whois(1), the /etc/whois.conf
settings are consulted.

nTLDs require entries so that RFC 3912
databases may be reached.

Domains are live and in the roots, but
ubuntu, all versions ever, cannot discover.

This might be added to /etc/whois.conf

[Bug 1298093] Re: iscsi_trgt: module verification failed

2014-03-26 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for reporting this bug.

The syslog messages in question were not themselves followed by a long
delay before the next message, so this may or may not be the cause of
your boot slowdown. Is it possible for you to install the bootchart
package? It will create a .png image which should show how long each
job is taking, and which jobs are blocking which others.

I installed bootchart, which pulls in pybootchartgui and python-support,
 rebooted,
and am uploading the .png file found in /var/log/bootchart.

Interesting picture of the boot processes.
Looks like there is long 120 second idle time, for something, but I'm new to
reading this bootchart image.

later releases?

To be honest given the workaround in comment #2 I'm not sure this is a
bug in screen, as opposed to cron not exporting the user's environment
to his jobs.

[Bug 1298192] [NEW] hv: Unable to take backups of Generation 2 VMs

2014-03-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

We are unable to take backups of Generation 2 VMs because they include a
FAT 32 EFI partition. This patch ignores such partitions while freezing
the file-system to take a snapshot during the initial stages of the
backup process. Since EFI partition is not expected to be modified
regularly, the ignore functionality should address the problem. Please
include the following upstream patch in the vss daemon:

Tools: hv: vssdaemon: Ignore VFAT mounts during the Freeze operation
If the guest has a FAT file system mounted, skip it during the FREEZE
operation. With this change we can support host initiated backup of
the guest even when the guest may have FAT file systems mounted.
