[Bug 1315642] [NEW] powerwake doesn't honor resolv.conf

2014-05-03 Thread Adam Conrad
Public bug reported:

Subject says it all. powerwake doesn't do sane lookups, leading to
frustration like this:

(base)adconrad@lucifer:~$ host hermes
hermes.0c3.net has address 10.0.0.14
(base)adconrad@lucifer:~$ powerwake hermes
ERROR: Could not determine the MAC address of [hermes]
(base)adconrad@lucifer:~$ powerwake hermes.0c3.net
INFO: Trying to wake host: [hermes.0c3.net]
INFO: Sending magic packet to: [e0cb4e2c4faa]

Seems silly to have to specify an FQDN when my machine knows perfectly
well how to resolve hermes.

[Bug 1315643] [NEW] powerwake should make a best-effort attempt to guess broadcast

2014-05-03 Thread Adam Conrad
Public bug reported:

When I powerwake by hostname or IP, powerwake knows what network that
is, and if we have a route for it, we should hit that subnet's
broadcast, rather than 255.255.255.255, which is less reliable.

Example here:

(base)adconrad@lucifer:~$ ip ro sh
default via 68.145.116.1 dev eth0
10.0.0.0/27 dev br0 proto kernel scope link src 10.0.0.1
68.145.116.0/22 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 68.145.119.149

And a powerwake to 10.0.0.14 only works if I send it explicitly to
10.0.0.31. This should be easily guessable without me having to hand-
hold.

I still regularly get this. The workaround is to open a terminal, which
causes the cursor shape to change. Once that is done, the cursor stays
visible.

[Bug 1315791] Re: package bridge-utils 1.4-5ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2014-05-03 Thread Steve Langasek
This was from the CAE Linux live CD

 Setting up bridge-utils (1.4-5ubuntu2) ...
debconf: DbDriver config: /var/cache/debconf/config.dat is locked by
 another process: Resource temporarily unavailable
 dpkg: error processing bridge-utils (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

The error means that you had more than one process trying to access the
debconf database at the same time. This could be caused by multiple
package managers running at the same time. But whatever the cause, I'm
afraid you're not going to get much support here for fixing the problem
on a derivative based on a four-year-old release of Ubuntu.

[Bug 1315741] [NEW] The dnsmasq initscript fails to disable itself when the dnsmasq package is removed

2014-05-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I upgraded from 12.04 to 14.04 and found that I had no DNS. After a
little searching I noticed that dnsmasq, as started by Network Manager,
was listening on 127.0.1.1, yet /etc/resolv.conf was being auto-
populated with 127.0.0.1, so DNS lookups were failing.

Manually adding 127.0.1.1 to /etc/resolv.conf lets DNS work until the
network state changes, then it gets overwritten again with 127.0.0.1.

I've worked around the issue by adding nameserver 127.0.1.1 to
/etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/head and restarting network-manager.
Something left over from 12.04 is apparently still causing 127.0.0.1 to
be written instead of 127.0.1.1.
