[Bug 1323274] Re: Restore Debian's init.d script for insserv compatibility
/etc/init.d/mpd:# Should-Start: autofs $network $named alsa-utils pulseaudio avahi-daemon But there is no /etc/init.d/alsa-utils in the Ubuntu package. Not exactly sure what this means, is this related to the relatively new daemon functionality of alsactl? So far we have avoided starting that daemon by default because (by my judgement) the overhead of having yet another daemon everywhere weighs heavier than the minimal functionality it provides in very few configurations. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dovecot in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1323274 Title: Restore Debian's init.d script for insserv compatibility To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-utils/+bug/1323274/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Hey David, David Henningsson [2014-05-27 6:42 -]: Not exactly sure what this means, is this related to the relatively new daemon functionality of alsactl? So far we have avoided starting that daemon by default because (by my judgement) the overhead of having yet another daemon everywhere weighs heavier than the minimal functionality it provides in very few configurations. Sorry, this probably was confusing to everyone except Dimitri and me. The goal here is merely to make Ubuntu compatible to insserv. In particular, any declared LSB dependency in our init.d scripts actually needs to exist. But we don't want to change actual behaviour, i. e. in this case we will put back the alsa-utils init.d script for insserv to be able to compute dependencies, but we'll also add an alsa-utils upstart job which is a no-op (similar to the systemd alsa-utils unit which is also just a /dev/null).

[Bug 1323704] [NEW] main.cf silently modified during postfix 2.9.1-4 upgrade on 12.04LTS
Public bug reported: Postfix 2.9.6-1~12.04.1 on Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS I did apt-get upgrade to the host in question and found out that /etc/postfix/main.cf was silently changed (I was not asked to validateverify changes) (/var/log/apt/term.log) Setting up mail-stack-delivery (1:2.0.19-0ubuntu2.1) ...^M Mail stack delivery changes some postfix settings.^M Old values are stored in /var/backups/mail-stack-delivery/main.cf-backup.^M Feel free to revert any of them when the process is done.^M Configuring postfix for mail-stack-delivery integration: done.^M Change summary: 1. It decided to change my tls files to default values smtpd_tls_key_file = /etc/ssl/private/ssl-mail.key smtpd_tls_cert_file = /etc/ssl/certs/ssl-mail.pem 2. It deleted entries in smtpd_recipient_restrictions diff /etc/postfix/main.cf /tmp/main.cf 45c45,56 smtpd_recipient_restrictions = reject_unknown_sender_domain, reject_unknown_recipient_domain, reject_unauth_pipelining, permit_mynetworks, permit_sasl_authenticated, reject_unauth_destination --- smtpd_recipient_restrictions = reject_non_fqdn_recipient, permit_mynetworks, permit_sasl_authenticated, check_client_access hash:/etc/postfix/access, check_helo_access hash:/etc/postfix/access, check_sender_access hash:/etc/postfix/access, reject_unknown_recipient_domain, reject_unauth_destination, reject_rbl_client sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org, check_sender_mx_access cidr:/etc/postfix/bogus_mx, permit 118,123d128 smtpd_sasl_authenticated_header = yes smtpd_sasl_local_domain = $myhostname smtpd_sender_restrictions = reject_unknown_sender_domain mailbox_command = /usr/lib/dovecot/deliver -c /etc/dovecot/conf.d/01-mail-stack-delivery.conf -m ${EXTENSION} smtpd_tls_mandatory_protocols = SSLv3, TLSv1 smtpd_tls_mandatory_ciphers = medium and changed the command used by postfix to pass emails to dovecot. Note that before I had a command similar to the mailbox_comand but in /etc/postfix/main.cf, flags=DRhu user=virtual:virtual argv=/usr/lib/dovecot/deliver -c /etc/dovecot/conf.d/01-dovecot-postfix.conf -f ${sender} -d ${recipient} Which was then rewritten as flags=DRhu user=virtual:virtual argv=/usr/lib/dovecot/dovecot-lda -c /etc/dovecot/conf.d/01-mail-stack-delivery.conf -f ${sender} -d ${recipient} as dovecot-lda replaces deliver for dovecot 2.X. Incidentally, deliver is now an alias to dovecot-lda, ls -lh /usr/lib/dovecot/deliver lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 May 14 14:24 /usr/lib/dovecot/deliver - dovecot-lda probably as a stopgap until people change their configs. 3. There are a few more additions done to main.cf but they do not seem to be bad, so I am going to brush over them. So, why was the file changed without warning? Were some of the options I used -- reject_rbl_client comes to mind -- deprecated? Still that does not warrant a silent change. ** Affects: postfix (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to postfix in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1323704 Title: main.cf silently modified during postfix 2.9.1-4 upgrade on 12.04LTS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/postfix/+bug/1323704/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1323704] Re: main.cf silently modified during postfix 2.9.1-4 upgrade on 12.04LTS
Thank you for your report. It looks like you have the mail-stack-delivery package installed, which is designed to alter postfix's configuration as declared in the package description: This package modifies postfix's configuration to integrate with dovecot. If you do not want to have your postfix configuration automatically managed, then why do you have mail-stack-delivery installed? Marking this bug as Invalid, as I think the behaviour you describe is by design. If this is not correct, please explain and then change the bug status back to New. [Bug 1319817] Re: dovecot 2.2.9-1ubuntu2 misses init script to start
Since Ubuntu uses upstart, the correct interface to manage services is with the service command, not by calling init.d scripts directly. dovecot in Trusty is managed by an upstart script. This is defined in /etc/init/dovecot.conf. That /etc/init.d/dovecot doesn't exist is by design, so I'm marking this bug as Invalid. [Bug 1323758] [NEW] Mouse stops working when connected usb-storage-device
Public bug reported: I'm running a guest that has Windows 8 Pro (x64) installed. Every time I pass through a usb storage device from the host to the guest, the mouse stops working in the vnc client. When I remove the usb-device the mouse works again. The mouse only stops working when I pass through a usb storage device and then make the vlc viewer (client) inactive by clicking on another program on the local computer (where I'm running the vnc viewer (client)). As long as I keep the vnc viewer active, the mouse works without any problems. But as soon as I make the vnc viewer inactive and then active again, the mouse will no longer work. I have to reboot the guest or remove the usb storage device. I can't find any related problems on the internet, so it may be just me? The regression potential for this change is low, as only the cloud-init Cloud-Sigma datasource is changed, a test suite has been provided and it has been tested by Cloud Sigma. The reason for this late-in-the-cylce change is so that Cloud Sigma can have use the official Ubuntu Images with out conflating user and vendor- data. Currently Cloud Sigma uses the user-data channel improperly for transmitting vendor specific information to Cloud-init, when they should be using the vendor-data channel. We're looking at this. The general rule in cloud-init should be enabled by default if and only if there is no negative side effects. The one exception is the EC2 metadata service (it polls and has very annoying timeouts). However, its generally configured to be last, so all others have failed at that point. [Bug 1321427] Re: [SRU] Update walinuxagent package for Precise to v2.0.5
Since we are upgrading WALinuxAgent from 1.3.2 to 2.0.5 for Precise, I want to be absolutely sure that this safe, so I spent the better part of day testing, retesting and confirming that this is safe. Uploaded 2.0.5 for 12.04 and 14.04. ** Description changed: SRU Justification - IMPACT: - WALinuxAgent 1.3.2 lacks features and bug fixes; these features and fixes are not being backported. + IMPACT: + WALinuxAgent 1.3.2 lacks features and bug fixes; these features and fixes are not being backported. For 14.04, the current code base is 2.0.4; 2.0.5 is largely a selection of bug fixes. The current extension handlers are not robust and may leak and exception, causing the agent to crash mid boot. For example there are several fixes for catching errors in plugin handling. TEST CASES New Image * Build new image from -proposed, confirm that it boots * Boot new instance w/ user-data - confirm cloud-init consumed user-data Upgrade: * Upgrade 12.04 and 14.04 instance w/ -proposed walinuxagent +* for 12.04, replace waagent.conf when prompted, confirm it comes up properly +* for 12.04, don't replace waagent.conf when prompted, confirm is comes up properly * Reboot, confirm instance came back up * Rebundle instance, confirm that new rebundling works * Upgrade 12.04 to 14.04, reboot. Confirm that instance comes up REGRESSION POTENTIAL: There is some risk of regression potential. MS has confirmed that that 2.0.5 has been thoroughly tested by MS on 12.04. However, for 12.04 it is a shift from 1.3.2 series to 2.0.5. For 14.04, the regession potential lower, as the changes are bug fixes to 2.0.4 version. ORIGINAL REPORT: This is a request from Microsoft to please update the walinuxagent package for Ubuntu 12.04 from v1.3.2 to the latest WALinuxAgent 2.0.5. The Microsoft team has implemented new features and bugfixes into the 2.0 branch that will not be backported to the 1.x branch. The most important of these is the support for extension handlers on Azure, which will be a widely used and compelling feature for Azure moving forward.
