[Bug 708493] Re: Can't login anymore: Read from socket failed: Connection reset by peer
My cases of this bug (though it seems like there are different ones with similar symptoms) happen each time I reset a 14.04 VM to an older state from a hard shutdown. Localhost ssh connections fail as well with same output. Workaround for me is regenerating the host keys (sudo rm /etc/ssh/host_* && sudo ssh-keygen -A) each time I revert the VM. Changing the cipher/kex does not seem to change the outcome. I wonder if some junk gets written to the keys in bad shutdowns. I'll see If I can debug the output of the sshd. [Bug 1275656] Re: open-vm-dkms 2011.12.20-562307-0ubuntu1: open-vm-tools kernel module failed to build
Marking as verification done. I had failed verification erroneously and I have re-verified to make sure this is correct. I had previously failed this due to an install failure for a 3rd party package from VMWare, thinking that the problem was in the control file for this new package in precise. After a bit of testing and education I have learned that the 3rd party package is requiring open-vm-tools and specifying a particular version range. The virtual package in the backport can't satisfy specific version requirements so the 3rd party package must be updated with knowledge of the new open-vm-tools-lts- trus-needed-trusty package. With that resolved and the packages re- verified I have set the tags and distribution/package status so that these can be promoted from -proposed. ** Tags removed: verification-failed-precise verification-needed-trusty ** Tags added: verification-done ** Changed in: open-vm-tools (Ubuntu Precise) Status: In Progress => Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to open-vm-tools in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1275656 Title: open-vm-dkms 2011.12.20-562307-0ubuntu1: open-vm-tools kernel module failed to build To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cunit/+bug/1275656/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Hello Fantu, thanks for this hint. It's gr8 that trusty (Ubuntu 14.04) installes the pygrub2 package, so it should be possible to start a 14.04 pv domU on a 14.04 dom0. I also did not test this. But thats not a solution for thoose who run the dom0 on 12.04 and want to use a 14.04 pv domU now. So it would maybe an idea to backport the pygrub2 package to 12.04? Have a nice day. [Bug 916200] Re: Kernel module ipmi_si fails to load
This is just an information for those that come to here due to matching search engine keywords, it is only partially related to this bug, so all others please ignore this. If your system does not power off at all (including hang at reboot) you may have fallen into this trap: - install ipmitool - recognise that your system does not meet the requirements for ipmi_si (matching errors as described above) - remove ipmitool Now ipmi_si is still present in the system and you can see the correspondig startup messages in system.log and it seems to be able to prevent poweroff. Solution: PURGE ipmitool (and maybe openipmi as well - at least there was "remaining configuration" present in my system for this package as well and therefore I purged it additionally). After that, my system was able to reboot again and was able to completely poweroff on its own: CPU: Clarkdale i3 540 Board: ASUS P7H55D-M Evo OS: Mythbuntu 12.04.4 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to ipmitool in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/916200 Title: Kernel module ipmi_si fails to load To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ipmitool/+bug/916200/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1311870] Re: pygrub on 12.04 don't start 14.04
To boot pv domUs with newer grub pvgrub2 is needed, I'm using for a few months a custom build from source, Trusty have it in official repository: http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/grub-xen Even if I not tested official debian/ubuntu now and from a quick look I do not saw where is the file to pass to the domU's configuration as kernel to use it. Can someone tell how to use it and add a documentation? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to xen in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1311870 Title: pygrub on 12.04 don't start 14.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1311870/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
