[Bug 1303986] Re: [SRU][FFe] CloudSigma Datasource doesn't handle vendor-data correctly
The RC appears to be broken on our cloud. It simply doesn't pick up on our data source anymore. Here's how I tested it: * I fetched the latest image[1] and converted it to RAW (cloud requirement). * I uploaded the image and made sure that it booted properly and that the CloudInit data was detected (it was). * I loop-mounted and chroot'd into the RAW image and installed the updated binary package[2]. * I then uploaded the modified image and booted off of it. The CloudInit data was no longer detected. The MRE was reviewed by Martin Pitt here: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/technical-board/2014-April/001869.html As for testing, this version went through both automated testing (all the tests present in lxc-tests + the python3 API tests) as well as manual testing done by myself, LXC contributors and LXC users who've been building the git stable branch for a while now. Utopic is now on the LXC 1.1 alpha branch which bugfixes for 1.0.5 have been taken from, so although they aren't identical anymore, all the changes in 1.0.5 are already in utopic. ** Affects: lxc (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid ** Affects: lxc (Ubuntu Trusty) Importance: Medium Assignee: Stéphane Graber (stgraber) Status: In Progress ** Also affects: lxc (Ubuntu Trusty) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid ** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu Trusty) Status: New = In Progress ** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu Trusty) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu Trusty) Assignee: (unassigned) = Stéphane Graber (stgraber) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to lxc in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1341638 Title: New upstream bugfix release 1.0.5 (LXC MRE) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxc/+bug/1341638/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a regular (non-security) bug. [Bug 1341710] [NEW] Comment placed inside of /etc/timezone
Public bug reported: Greetings! cloud-init v0.7.5 (trusty) is placing a comment in the /etc/timezone file, when that file isn't intended to contain a comment. This is confusing openjdk (and perhaps other programs?), which is unable to determine the correct timezone. Sample /etc/timezone from v0.7.5: # Created by cloud-init v. 0.7.5 on Mon, 14 Jul 2014 18:01:38 + US/Eastern Openjdk has been informed of this back in 2012, and decided that they won't change things on their end because comments in /etc/timezone aren't part of the spec. https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-7192951. Of course, there is no formal spec for /etc/timezone. The closest that I've seen to a spec is actually contained within the bug report at openjdk: = I am not sure that a formal spec of /etc/timezone exists. The Debian tools for manipulating it (tzconfig and tzsetup) do basically the same thing. --- reading --- if [ -L /etc/localtime ] ; then current_timezone=$(readlink /etc/localtime | sed 's%^/usr/share/zoneinfo/%%') elif [ -f /etc/timezone ] [ -f /etc/localtime ]; then current_timezone=$(cat /etc/timezone) fi --- setting --- echo $timezone /etc/timezone It is the same in Ubuntu. So, in Debian-based distros it is just a LF-terminated line, with no spaces and extra characters. To be a little more general, I suggest ignoring all leading spaces (including new lines) and then reading consecutive non-space characters. = For the record, cloud-init previously did not include a comment in /etc/timezone. Would it be possible to revert to the previous behavior of not including a comment in /etc/timezone? A quick skim of the source code tells me that the set_timezone() method would have to be changed to no longer include the line with util.make_header(). [Bug 1341788] [NEW] requires manually loading i2c-dev module in SSIF driver mode
Public bug reported: freeipmi supports an SSIF driver mode that uses the kernel's /dev/i2c-* interface. However, this interface is only exposed when the i2c-dev module is loaded, and this appears to be a manual process today. Some options I see: - Link i2c-dev statically in the kernel. This would work for cases where the lowlevel i2c driver is autoloaded (which is the case today, at least with properly configured device-tree platforms). The problem is that this will consume memory on all Ubuntu systems, whether or not they support this interface and whether or not the user plans to use it. - Make freeipmi commands suggest the user load the module when it fails to find the user-requested dev entry - Make freeipmi commands automatically load the i2c-dev module, if available, when the user specifies SSIF - Introduce a package (or modify an existing package) to automatically load the i2c-dev module on boot if an i2c device is found on the system (possibly via a udev rule, or an upstart/systemd job). Precedent for this exists in the openipmi package. It should be straightforward to generate a patch to do the right thing - but we'll need some advice from the Ubuntu community to decide what the best mechanism is. ** Affects: freeipmi (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to freeipmi in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1341788 Title: requires manually loading i2c-dev module in SSIF driver mode To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/freeipmi/+bug/1341788/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
