[Bug 1319595] Re: upstart script ignores some php-fpm.conf parameters, cannot be bypassed in preference of SystemV init script.

2014-08-07 Thread Jeff Waugh
Looks like we've conflated two problems here -- ignoring options and the
init script not working. Would it be inappropriate for me to rename this
to focus on the init script issue?

I could probably prepare a patch, so --nodaemonize doesn't break
logging, since this will break with Debian systemd as well. Whether it
will be accepted by Ubuntu into trusty is up to Ubuntu maintainer.

[Bug 1353896] [NEW] Bug with Python3 in wait_for_occupied_port/check_port not patched

2014-08-07 Thread Vincent Tabard
Public bug reported:

See https://bitbucket.org/cherrypy/cherrypy/issue/1170/bug-in-
check_port-running-python-33 for upstream bug description and patch,
commited in source in 2012 in this commit:
https://bitbucket.org/cherrypy/cherrypy/commits/9820107d4ffb8058fd507888f90e28c695f6b4c0.

Summary:

« The new exception hierarchy in Python 3.3 has created a bug in
check_port in process/servers.py. IOError and socket.error are both now
aliases of OSError, so a check for socket.error wrongly catches the
IOError that's thrown in the try block. »

It pretty much makes cherrypy unusable with Python 3.3+ (3.4 shipped
with trusty), since when you start a server, about 50 s later it shuts
down because of « port not bound », when it really is.

[Bug 1353923] [NEW] Installing Docker Breaks KVM

2014-08-07 Thread jean-christophe manciot
Public bug reported:

Installing Docker 0.9.1 on Ubuntu 14.04 Desktop:

- creates a new bridge docker0
- deletes virbr0

Since thern, I've never been able to restore the correct environment for
KVM, even by uninstalling docker.

If I try to manually add the bridge with *brctl addbr virbr0*, the
creation does not survive across reboots and:

virsh net-start default

error: Failed to start network default
error: Unable to create bridge virbr0: File exists

Very strange error.

What must be done to solve or workaround that issue?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I notice that in the netg3 command, one drive is specified as scsi-hd,
while the other is virtio-blk-pci. Was that intended?

Yes, that was intentional. This is a test system, and we are attempting
to run I/O tests on both types of virtual disk.

[Bug 1346815] Re: lxc-clone causes duplicate MAC address and IP address

2014-08-07 Thread Nobuto MURATA
You can also easily work around this by adding

 lxc.network.hwaddr = 00:16:3e:xx:xx:xx

 to your /etc/lxc/default.conf or ~/.local/share/lxc/default.conf.

hmm, /etc/lxc/default.conf already had lxc.network.hwaddr =
00:16:3e:xx:xx:xx in my env. Besides, I have changed the line in
/var/lib/lxc/ORIG_CONTAINER/config. It works for me as a workaround.
Thanks.

(In reply to comment #25)
This bug is missing log files that will aid in diagnosing the problem. From
 a terminal window please run:

 apport-collect 1342000

and then change the status of the bug to 'Confirmed'.

If, due to the nature of the issue you have encountered, you are unable to
run this command, please add a comment stating that fact and change the bug
 status to 'Confirmed'.

This error occurs during O/S installation. I chose the menu option to
start a shell, but the apport-collect command does not exist in the
installation miniroot environment.

I found a menu option to save the installation log files and will attach
those files to this bug instead.

[Bug 1354114] [NEW] Precise multipath segmentation Fault

(gdb) print wp

In pthread_mutex_lock.c:62 there's an assert that fails:

pthread_mutex_lock.c:62

In this run:
(gdb) p *wp

$3 = {_data = {lock = 1, __count = 0, __owner = 49, __nusers = 0, __kind = 0,
__spins = 0, __list = {_prev = 0x0, __next = 0x}},
__size = \001\000\000\000\000\000\000\000\061, '\000' repeats 23
times\377, \377\377\377\000\000\000, __align = 1}
so __owner is 49 and not 0.
Note that 49 is somewhat strange; it's expected to be a pid_t obtained via
pid_t id = THREAD_GETMEM (THREAD_SELF, tid);

According to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=570278 , this
assert failure could be an expected behaviour if, for some reason the
multipath code was trying to release a mutex that has already been
freed.

The multipath-tools package is up to date (0.4.9-3ubuntu5)

I do not find obvious thing related in
http://git.opensvc.com/gitweb.cgi?p=multipath-tools%2F.git except may be
http://git.opensvc.com/gitweb.cgi?p=multipath-tools/.git;a=commitdiff;h=5ee9f716549d913aeb9800041f78ee9c6a50d860

In between Precise's version and Upstream there are the following
patches touching waiter.c:

d887f4a = signal waiter thread to stop waiting on dm events
5ee9f71 = simplify multipath signal handlers
af4fd6d = Fix race condition in stop_waiter_thread()
e1fcc59 = multipath: clean up code for stopping the waiter threads
03ec4ef = multipath: fix shutdown crashes
4dfdaf2 = multipath: Update multipath device on show topology
c301a3f = Race condition when calling stop_waiter_thread()
96f8146 = libmultipath: update waiter handling

This specific one: 96f8146 (libmultipath: update waiter handling)

The current 'waiter' structure accesses fields which belong
to the main 'mpp' structure, which has a totally different
lifetime.

Shows that due to different lifetime between different structures, there
can be use-after-free segfaults (what seems to be happening).

waiter.c:44 = lock(wp-vecs-lock);

[Bug 1354114] Re: Precise multipath segmentation Fault

2014-08-07 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Since I don't have specific steps how to reproduce this error (it can be
intermittent), but the fix is straight forward (using upstream fix), I'm
suggesting this to be SRUed.

A temporary PPA was created for those who wants to test before it gets
accepted into -proposed:

# sudo add-apt-repository ppa:inaddy/lp1330866
# sudo apt-get update
# sudo apt-get install multipath-tools

This will install:

- kpartx_0.4.9-3ubuntu5.2~lp1330866_amd64.deb
- multipath-tools_0.4.9-3ubuntu5.2~lp1330866_amd64.deb

Thank you.

PS: Attaching debdiff and asking for sponsorship in a moment.

[Bug 1354114] Re: multipath segmentation Fault (libmultipath: update waiter handling)

2014-08-07 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Attaching SRU proposal.

Description: [PATCH] libmultipath: update waiter handling

The current 'waiter' structure accesses fields which belong
to the main 'mpp' structure, which has a totally different
lifetime. With this patch most of these dependencies are
removed and the 'waiter' structure can run independently
of the main 'mpp' structure, reducing the risk of
use-after-free faults.

[Bug 1354114] Re: multipath segmentation Fault (libmultipath: update waiter handling)

2014-08-07 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
So probably to last commits touching libmultipath/waiter.c (and fixing
this issue) would be:

1)

commit e1fcc5933ac44683cdee1a02304e1115abec3ff5
Author: Benjamin Marzinski bmarz...@redhat.com
Date: Sat May 19 01:37:03 2012 -0500

multipath: clean up code for stopping the waiter threads

The way multipathd currently stops the waiter threads needs some work.
Right now they are stopped by being sent the SIGUSR1 signal. However their
cleanup code assumes that they are being cancelled, just like all the other
threads are. There's no reason for them to be so unnecessarily
complicated and different from the other threads

This patch does a couple of things. First, it removes the mutex from
the event_thread. This wasn't doing anything. It was designed to protect
the wp-mapname variable, which the waiter threads were checking to see
if they should quit. However, the mutex was only ever being used by the
thread itself, and it clearly didn't need to serialize with itself. Also,
the function to clear the mapname, signal_waiter(), was set with
pthread_cleanup_push(), which never got called early, since the threads
weren't being cancelled. Thus, the mapname never got cleared
until the pthreads were about to shut down.

The patch also rips out all the signal stopping code, and just uses
pthread_cancel. There already are cancellation points in the waiter
thread code. Between the cancellation points, both explicit and implicit,
and the fact that the waiter threads will never be killed except when the
killer is holding the vecs lock, there shouldn't be any place where the
waiter thread can access freed data.

To make sure the waiter thread cleans itself up properly, the dmt
has been moved into the event_thread structure, and is destroyed in
free_waiter() if necessary.

[Bug 1354114] Re: multipath segmentation Fault (libmultipath: update waiter handling)

2014-08-07 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
It looks like the fix above introduces regressions (actually other new
bugs):

commit 96f81469ff993b6063bb8829d9b336590510466d
Author: Hannes Reinecke h...@suse.de
Date: Mon May 4 16:46:58 2009 +0200

libmultipath: update waiter handling

The current 'waiter' structure accesses fields which belong
to the main 'mpp' structure, which has a totally different
lifetime. With this patch most of these dependencies are
removed and the 'waiter' structure can run independently
of the main 'mpp' structure, reducing the risk of
use-after-free faults.

Signed-off-by: Hannes Reinecke h...@suse.de

Introduces this problem:

commit c301a3f09203edf91df5a9adf4e32ea2a7238cda
Author: Hannes Reinecke h...@suse.de
Date: Wed May 25 14:40:19 2011 +0200

Race condition when calling stop_waiter_thread()

We cannot access the waiter structure from other threads as
the lifetime is totally different and it might be deleted
at any time.
So we better store the pthread id in the calling thread and
just send a signal to the thread.

And maybe this also:

Maybe this:

commit 03ec4efe8775f0ca076df3fb85b9defab4ffad30
Author: Benjamin Marzinski bmarz...@redhat.com

multipath: fix shutdown crashes

A number of processes don't reach a pthread cancellation point
before they use the pathvec or mpvec vectors, after they've
locked the vecs lock. This can cause crashes on shutdown, since
these vectors are deallocated. Also, the log thread accesses a
number of resources which may have been deallocated during shutdown
without holding any locks. This patch avoids these issues by
adding pthread_testcancel() checks after acquiring the vecs lock,
and having the child process make sure the log thread has exitted
before deallocating the resources.

Fixing the 1) race condition (introduced).

After all these commits we have other commits simplifying way multipath
signal handlers work that might not be suitable for SRU. Since these
commits are fixing this issue during multipath development now I'll
separate wether all these changes are suitable for a SRU for Precise,
Trusty and Utopic.

[Bug 1354193] [NEW] Variables in /etc/default/tomcat7 overridden in /etc/init.d/tomcat7

2014-08-07 Thread Jon Stumpf
Public bug reported:

Many variables defined in /etc/default/tomcat7 are overridden in
/etc/init.d/tomcat7. In short, they cannot be set in
/etc/default/tomcat7. These are: TOMCAT7_USER, TOMCAT7_GROUP,
TOMCAT7_SECURITY, JVM_TMP, and JAVA_HOME.

If empty, JVM_TMP was set to /etc/tomcat7-$NAME-tmp. With
NAME=tomcat7, this was redundant and I fixed it to match what is
documented in /etc/default/tomcat7.

In the (temporary) logic to set JAVA_HOME, there was an error in
enumerating the java-7-openjdk's. The error caused the enumerated list
to only be the last directory discovered. I fixed the error to match
the logic for the java-6-openjdk's.

Lastly, the auto-generate message for the policies is hardcoded. I
added logic to list both the logical path and, if different, the
physical path to the policy.d directory.

** Affects: tomcat7 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Patch added: tomcat7.diff

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1354193/+attachment/4172311/+files/tomcat7.diff

[Bug 1273447] Re: samba sharing doesn't work on fresh Ubuntu 14.04 x64 build - net usershare add: cannot convert name Everyone to a SID. Access denied

2014-08-07 Thread RaveNoX
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1261873 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1261873

Workaround for now is install monit and add hook in it's configuration:

check process smbd with pidfile /var/run/samba/smbd.pid
start program /usr/sbin/service smbd start
stop program /usr/sbin/service smbd stop
if 20 restarts within 20 cycles then timeout

check process nmbd with pidfile /var/run/samba/nmbd.pid
start program /usr/sbin/service nmbd start
stop program /usr/sbin/service nmbd stop
if 20 restarts within 20 cycles then timeout

[Bug 1352617] Re: php5-fpm UNIX sockets in Precise do not listen as www-data:www-data by default, and causes 502s with webservers trying to use socket

2014-08-07 Thread Thomas Ward
I'm attaching the patch I wrote for this.

As this patch is ultimately going to repair a problem introduced by a
security fix, by forcing php5-fpm to force a specific user/group to be
the owner:group settings for the fpm socket, I would like the Security
Team to review the change preliminarily, while I work on getting a
debdiff made. This is solely because it changes how the php5-fpm
package has its /etc/php5/fpm/pool.d/www.conf file is generated,
changing the default lines slightly. I'd like to make sure this doesn't
break anything else or introduce any other issues.

** Patch added: fix-fpm-socket-owner-group.patch
