[Bug 1356113] Re: PHP5 session clean cron job causes OOM
Ok, sorry for the repeated spamming tonight. One problem with the solution you linked to is that it is extracting the gx_maxlifetime in seconds, then putting that in find's -cmin which expects minutes. I've attached a script that incorporates the improvements of SAPI- specific session file cleaning, as well as my improved open-file touching code. [Bug 1356113] Re: PHP5 session clean cron job causes OOM
What do you think about running this for each SAPI? It's actually *way* more efficient: for pid in $(pidof "$sapi"); do find "/proc/$pid/fd" -lname "$session_save_path/*" -exec touch {} \; done That will iterate all the PIDs of the running SAPI (we'll need to iterate them as well), then find all the files it has open and touch them. This is more efficient than lsof since it looks only at the files open by the SAPI in question, instead of every process. As an example, here's the timing of my proposed way and the current way: kamermans@steve-ubuntu:~$ time for pid in $(pidof apache2); do sudo find "/proc/$pid/fd" -lname "/var/lib/php5/*" -print -exec touch {} \; ; done /proc/4202/fd/21 real0m0.143s user0m0.069s sys 0m0.077s kamermans@steve-ubuntu:~$ time sudo /usr/bin/lsof -w -l +d /var/lib/php5 COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME apache2 4202 33 21uW REG8,30 277620 /var/lib/php5/sess_bbn8sh6ljim484c4qt3inubhr3 real0m1.079s user0m0.514s sys 0m0.845s Notice that my version returns /proc/4202/fd/21, but that is the file descriptor which is a symbolic link to /var/lib/php5/sess_bbn8sh6ljim484c4qt3inubhr3. Touching the link touches the file, so the effect is the same. Also, since the find command finds and touches the file in (almost) one operation, so it's unlikely the file will disappear between the time that it's found and the time that it's touched. Yet another option is to alter the lsof call to restrict it to just processes that match the given name(s). This is also fast, although it not quite as fast as the aforementioned /proc method in my test: kamermans@steve-ubuntu:~$ time sudo /usr/bin/lsof -w -l -a +d /var/lib/php5 -c apache2 COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME apache2 4202 33 21uW REG8,30 266585 /var/lib/php5/sess_18and1t1ej6frr9kjai3m1dbj4 real0m0.182s user0m0.074s sys 0m0.091s Note that I added "-a" to AND the directory and command constraint, otherwise they would be OR'd. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to php5 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1356113 Title: PHP5 session clean cron job causes OOM To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php5/+bug/1356113/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1356113] Re: PHP5 session clean cron job causes OOM
Thanks Ondřej, this is a much better script, and I agree that the lack of session.save_path support was rather annoying. This is still not optimal for high-performance servers, but it seems to be a good compromise for general use. Also, the fact that is honors SAPI-specific settings helps. Also, thanks for posting the thread regarding active sessions over the gc_maxlifetime, that is a strange issue. It would probably be more efficient to iterate /proc/x/fd for each of the SAPIs, but this seems like it would break easily, plus some instances of the process (php, for example) might be indistinguishable from the CLI version. I'll take a crack at it this weekend for the sake of curiosity. Good catch on the php-cli requirement - note that /usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime also uses php-cli in that way.

[Bug 1322682] Re: -D variables not honored
I experienced this problem when updating a client from Ubuntu 12.04 to 14.04. Our file server is running SunOS 5.11 but the symptom is the same. For us, It's not a source code problem but the way modules/parse_sun.c is compiled. Here's the gcc line for parse_sun from a default debuild of the Ubuntu 14.04 autofs package source: gcc -Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions -Wl,-z,relro -s -lpthread -s -lpthread -shared -g -O2 -fstack-protector --param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -Wformat -Werror=format-security -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -D_REENTRANT -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -D_REENTRANT -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -DSSS_LIB_DIR=\"/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sssd/modules\" -I../include -I../lib -fPIC -D_GNU_SOURCE -DAUTOFS_LIB_DIR=\"/usr/lib/x86_64-linux- gnu/autofs\" -DAUTOFS_MAP_DIR=\"/etc\" -o parse_sun.so parse_sun.c ../lib/autofs.a -lnsl If I remove the '-Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions' chunk from that gcc line and run it manually, then copy the resulting parse_sun.so to /usr/lib/x86_64 -linux-gnu/autofs/, it works. Then /usr/sbin/automount starts following the -D flags again. I was able to create a working package bumping the version in the changelog (no need to alter source) then running: DEB_LDFLAGS_SET='-Wl,-z,relro' debuild That reduces the default dpkg-buildflags from -Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions -Wl,-z,relro to -Wl,-z,relro to remove the problematic 'symbolic-functions' linker option that was causing the problem for me. You could try it under a Linux NFS server. [Bug 1356843] Re: ccs received early
OK, it turns out there is an incompatibility between the postfix package in precise and the version of openssl in precise. This was fixed in postfix 2.10.2 by the following change: 20130616 TLS Performance: the Postfix SMTP server TLS session cache was ineffective because recent OpenSSL versions enable session tickets by default, resulting in a different ticket encryption key for each smtpd(8) process. The workaround turns off session tickets. In 2.11 we'll enable session tickets properly. Viktor Dukhovni. File: tls/tls_server.c. This was causing the postfix server to respond in an invalid way, resulting in the openssl security fix to trigger the error. ** Package changed: openssl (Ubuntu) => postfix (Ubuntu) ** Also affects: postfix (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: postfix (Ubuntu) Status: New => Fix Released ** Changed in: postfix (Ubuntu Precise) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to postfix in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1356843 Title: ccs received early To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/postfix/+bug/1356843/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1357003] Re: Upstream SET GLOBAL sql_log_bin incompatible change
Some additional information. I asked Morgan (upstream): > For 12.04 or 14.04 specifically, are there real benefits of making this > change? Even if people are doing it wrong already, is it right to > suddenly break them if they haven't already noticed a problem? What > impact will the breakage have to them, if any? Will they be angry about > that? We are not aware of any "correct" use case for SET GLOBAL sql_log_bin=x. i.e. Some users may use it to emulate disabling the binary log, but since this only applies to new sessions it is not reliable, and is not fit for this purpose. Another situation might be to start the server with binary logging disabled, then enable it with SET GLOBAL sql_log_bin=0, but the same unreliability applies. > For example, say someone is doing it wrong at the moment, but it doesn't > impact him directly. With this change, a script he's running suddenly > breaks, and that failure cascades into some kind of production downtime. > Could this happen? That is not impossible, but very unlikely. If their current script does this, their slaves are now out of sync. Hence the dilemma where we are needing to be more drastic. ** Description changed: - Per: + SRU INFORMATION + + [Background] + + This is an API-breaking change proposed by upstream to the 5.5 stable + branch, targeted for Precise and Trusty. This does not fall under the + existing micro-release exception for mysql-5.5, and so must be + considered separately. In consideration of the micro-release exception + requirements, upstream have kindly drawn Ubuntu's attention to this + issue, and are interested in a decision for acceptance in an Ubuntu SRU + before making the change upstream, so that any change made is consistent + across upstream, Ubuntu and any other distributions that wish to follow + suit. + + Depending on the time it takes to make a decision, this may also affect + mysql-5.6 in Utopic if this is after feature freeze or release. + + We would like a +1 or a -1 from the SRU team (or Technical Board if + appropriate) for each of the two options presented below, preferably + well before any commits are made upstream or any uploads to Ubuntu if + possible. + + This request currently comes from MySQL only, but we presume it is not + an issue if Ubuntu makes a single decision on this change for all + variants, if/when other variants wish to follow suit. + + [Impact] + + The command "SET GLOBAL sql_log_bin = ..." is not useful, causes slaves + to lose sync and thus can cause data loss, but the similar command "SET + sql_log_bin = ..." is useful, often issued interactively, and is close + enough to the "SET GLOBAL ..." command that the latter can be issued by + mistake. + + [Proposed Development Fix] + + Either: 1) log a warning when the command is used; or 2) refuse to run + the command when requested and generate an error. + + Comments from the MySQL community, in response to the upstream request + for feedback + [http://www.tocker.ca/2014/08/14/set-global-sql_log_bin-we-need-your-feedback.html], + are overwhelmingly in favour of option 2. + + [Proposed Stable Fix] + + Same as development fix. + + [Regression Potential] + + Research + [http://blog.jcole.us/2014/08/08/stupid-and-dangerous-set-global-sql_log_bin/] + suggests that there is no known use case for this command, that the only + use of the command is by mistake, causes problems and/or data loss, and + this has happened in the real world in production environments. + + [Original Description] + + Per: http://www.tocker.ca/2014/08/14/set-global-sql_log_bin-we-need-your-feedback.html Upstream MySQL is proposing to change the following syntax to produce an error in current GA releases (5.5 and 5.6): mysql> SET GLOBAL sql_log_bin = x; The rationale for this is: - The syntax will cause slaves to drift out of sync from masters. - The syntax has no known "correct" use. - The syntax is too close to SET sql_log_bin=x - which does have a correct use. - Since this command is often run interactively, it is too easy to incorrectly type the incorrect command (and destroy data). - Producing a warning instead of an error does not prevent accidental command typing. [Bug 1347147] Re: krb5 database operations enter infinite loop
Hi, I'm from the original organisation (doc.ic.ac.uk) with the kdc5_util load problem on Trusty, I appreciate all your work on fixing this bug. If it's useful info, I can confirm that taking the krb5 (1.12.1+dfsg-7) source package [revised version of 1.12.1+dfsg-6 mentioned above] from Utopic and locally backporting it onto Trusty, and installing the relevant krb5 packages onto our experimental slave KDC does fix the original kprop/kdc5_util load problem. [Bug 997269] Re: dovecot imap broken by apparmor policy
Vin, this should be fixed since AppArmor bzr r2548 (but didn't make it into 14.04 yet). You can get the latest profile from to http://bazaar.launchpad.net /~apparmor-dev/apparmor/master/files/head:/profiles/apparmor.d/ - download usr.lib.dovecot.imap-login and abstractions/dovecot-common (newly added and required by the updated imap-login profile). [Bug 1357098] Re: StrongSwan incorrectly generating esp packets
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Is it clear that this is a userspace issue, and not a kernel bug? Thanks. I'll mark this Fix Released to reflect the situation in Utopic.
