[Bug 1392094] Re: golang is unavailable for arm64

2015-03-09 Thread Tianon Gravi
The current patch seems like it comes more from
https://github.com/docker/docker/pull/10569 than from the referenced
https://github.com/docker/docker/pull/10665, and basically this same
diff has been rejected upstream multiple times.

[Bug 1392094] Re: golang is unavailable for arm64

2015-03-09 Thread Tianon Gravi
Even the current patch headers are misleading:

> Description: Add gccgo build support for Power
> This patch is based on one that has been accepted upstream
> in trunk with some minor additions to deal with the way
> that the dh-golang helper works in Debian/Ubuntu.
> Origin: https://github.com/docker/docker/pull/10665

The "Description" claims this patch is actually based on something that
exists upstream, but nothing like that patch exists upstream, and the
"Origin" linked is a very different patch (and was merged as part of the
work towards getting GCCGO upstream).

[Bug 1392094] Re: golang is unavailable for arm64

2015-03-09 Thread Tianon Gravi
I'm actually really concerned by this change (speaking as both a Debian
maintainer on the package, and as the maintainer of the build scripts
upstream). We're actively working upstream on getting proper first-
class gccgo compilation support into Docker's build system
(https://github.com/docker/docker/issues/9207 for the tracker upstream),
but one of the things we've noticed is that just because it doesn't
FTBFS doesn't mean it actually works. Have you run it against the
upstream integration tests to at least get an initial verification that
the daemon works as expected?

The only file in /lib/security is pam_ecryptfs.so itself -- everything
else is in architecture specific locations. It seems to have been
created with obsolete paths. Are there symbolic links missing from
/lib/security that would compensate for this? (I tried loading the i386
pam libs in case that was what it was looking for, but that did not
help.)

Are there configuration changes I can make that will let vsftpd work AND
still let me log into my encrypted home directory? I'm nervous about
breaking something and locking myself out if I experiment too much.

2015-03-09 Thread Jason Gerard DeRose
Also, just to clarify, this is definitely a change (or in my mind
regression) introduced by systemd. Yesterday, the System76 image master
tool worked fine and dandy with an up-to-date Vivid VM, as it has
throughout the rest of the previous Vivid dev cycle.

Today things broke.

[Bug 1429938] [NEW] systemd changes behavior of apt-get remove openssh-server

2015-03-09 Thread Jason Gerard DeRose
Public bug reported:

On Trusty and Utopic, when you run `apt-get remove openssh-server` over
an SSH connection, your existing SSH connection remains open, so it's
possible to run additional commands afterward.

However, on Vivid now that the switch to systemd has been made, `apt-
get remove openssh-server` closes the existing SSH connection
immediately, causing your SSH client to exit with a non-zero status. I
have a hunch there's a lot of automation tooling out there that relies
on the old behavior.

For what it's worth, this change breaks the internal image mastering
tools that System76 uses. Prior to exporting an image tarball, I spin up
a golden VM with qemu, rysnc a script to it, and then execute this
script over SSH.

The important step is that I need to remove openssh-server prior to
shutting down the VM, so these scripts always end with something like
this:

apt-get -y purge openssh-server ssh-import-id
apt-get -y autoremove
shutdown -h now

As far as I can tell, this behavior change will likewise be a problem
when running `do-release-upgrade` on a remote server over SSH. Or more
generally, anytime you run "apt-get upgrade/dist-upgrade" via SSH, it
seems this would be a problem whenever the openssh-server package
happens to be updated.

[Bug 1429849] [NEW] server-installer: grub installed to wrong target

2015-03-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug by Robie Basak (racb):

Installation media: Daily server (Vivid) 64bit

Using the guided option to use the whole disk and LVM (did not try
anything else, yet) brings up the dialog box about installing grub to
the MBR at the end. However, despite selecting "yes" there, the
installation is attempted to the first logical partition (which is the
LVM PV), which fails (probably because of the failing safety check).

So for that VM grub-install should go into /dev/vda but is attempted
into /dev/vda5.

[Bug 1429872] [NEW] golang is not aware of architectures supported by gccgo

2015-03-09 Thread Matthias Klose
Public bug reported:

docker.io is now built on arm64 (see the ~doko/toolchain PPA). However
it now fails to build on the architectures where it is built by golang
(any version up to 1.4.2, as found in the same PPA).

In golang-pty, a file ztypes_arm64.go is added for the new architecture,
however this doesn't seem to be recognized as architecture specific
file.

then trying to build docker on i386, amd64 and armhf, you see:

---> Making bundle: dynbinary (in bundles/1.3.3/dynbinary)
# github.com/kr/pty
obj-i686-linux-gnu/src/github.com/kr/pty/ztypes_arm64.go:8: _C_int redeclared

marking the ztypes_arm64.go file with

// + build !amd64 !amd64p32 !386 !arm

doesn't help.

[Bug 1429857] Re: [MIR] bcache-tools

2015-03-09 Thread Scott Moser
** Description changed:

  Main Inclusion Request for bcache-tools.
-
- Availability:
- Rationale:
- Security:
- Quality assurance:
- UI standards:
- Dependencies:
+ Availability: in Ubuntu universe since utopic
+ Rationale: needed for setting up bcache (block layer cache) devices.
+ Security: No CVE found.
+ Quality assurance: bcache-tools installs 2 executables into /usr/sbin,
initramfs tools for dracut and initramfs-tools, and documentation.
README.Debian gives a
+ reasonable example of how to use.
+ UI standards: not really applicable.
+ Dependencies: All of bcache-tools are in ubuntu main (libblkid1, libc6,
libuuid1, initramfs-tools)
  Standards compliance:
- Maintenance:
+ - standards-version is 3.9.5 (current 3.9.6)
+ - builds cleanly.
+ Maintenance: This is a reasonably simple package that interacts with kernel.
  Background information:
+ we need this in ubuntu server to take advantage of the practice of cacheing
+ slow spinning disks with fast ssds.

[Bug 1411582] Re: Azure data source should auto-detect ephemeral disk location

2015-03-09 Thread Ben Howard
The fix for this is three pronged:

1) create a udev rule that identifies the ephemeral disk correctly, i.e.
/dev/disk/azure/resource. I've worked out a set of udev rules that work
well for this function.

2) teach cloud-init to use this device

3) communicate to users to use the new device

[Bug 862728] Re: Please stop defaulting to VCS="bzr"

2015-03-09 Thread Csipak Attila
Soren: let me just quote the official etckeeper documentation on this
topic:

"By default, etckeeper uses git. This choice has been carefully made;
git is the VCS best supported by etckeeper and the VCS users are most
likely to know.

[ It's possible that your distribution has chosen to modify etckeeper so
its default VCS is not git -- if they have please complain to them, as
they're making things unnecessarily difficult for you, and causing
unnecessary divergence of etckeeper installations. You should only be
using etckeeper with a VCS other than git if you're in love with the
other VCS. ]"

Source: http://etckeeper.branchable.com/README/

Also:

"Setting a repository up at install-time is a feature of etckeeper
upstream (and a good one)."

Bug #482417

BTW, Bug #482417 is generally complaining about the default bzr setting,
too.

It would be so nice to be able to either choose VCS at install-time or
make the same choice via package selection (separate packages for
etckeeper-git, etckeeper-bzr, etckeeper-darcs etc + if I don't want any
preconfiguration, I could just install an etckeeper-common package).
