[Bug 1355890] [NEW] [FFe] bcache-tools

2015-03-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have a work item to land bcache-tools in Utopic, which is currently a
Debian ITP (https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=708132).

To do this my team is working on a functional test plan, and we have
some test hardware on which we have been exercising bcache.

We have hit a number of issues that has caused some delay. We think
these are not bcache-specific, but nevertheless they have held up our
bcache testing.

I'm now not sure if we'll be able to have a bcache upload ready in time
for feature freeze, since we are having difficulty functionally testing
it. I could upload what we have right now, but I'd rather upload
something that has had some testing. I'd also prefer to see a Debian
upload followed by a sync to Utopic if we can, or at least to upload to
Utopic what is already in Debian NEW.

So rather than rushing it in, I'd like a feature freeze exception
approved please.

This is a new package, with no reverse dependencies. We don't have any
intention to seed bcache-tools this cycle. Hence there should be no
regression risk.

[Bug 1429938] Re: systemd changes behavior of apt-get remove openssh-server

2015-03-11 Thread Martin Pitt
After both "systemctl stop ssh" or a complete "apt-get purge openssh-
server" existing ssh connections continue to work, and the various
"sshd: login [priv]" processes continue to run, just the "/usr/sbin/sshd
-D" master process goes away, as expected.

sshd.service has KillMode=process which does that (kills the master
process, but none of its children). So I cannot reproduce this.

Do you have some more information how to reproduce this behaviour? Can
you perhaps interrupt the image build process right before the purging,
check "ps aux|grep ssh", then purge, check ps again, see what happened?
Do you have steps or something that I can run which reproduces this?

[Bug 1427859] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2015-03-11 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From mauri...@br.ibm.com 2015-03-11 12:13 EDT---
Hi,

Unfortunately this is not a bug (although it really seems so :).
The rationale..

There are 2 distinct/orthogonal things:
1) Listing the partitions in a disk
2) Creation of the block devices for them (i.e., /dev/something)

They happen to diverge with multipath because of the *option* to choose
the disk-partition separator.

This separator is introduced when the wholedisk device name's last
character is a number/digit (i.e., /dev/mpath0), so you can
differentiate 'mpath1 partition 1' from 'mpath 11 wholedisk' (that,
without a separator, are 'mpath11').

It is relatively unknown because the popular wholedisk device names are
sd[a-z] / vd[a-z] / LVM volume that ends in [a-z]).

Back to the 2 things, when a tool reads a disk's partition table, and then
prints it, the *tool* chooses the format.
Notice that /listing/ has *nothing* to do with the actual block devices
(/dev/something) of the disk, and must not, because the partitions may not
exist (e.g., you're partitioning the disk for the first time, and listing the
partitions you created).

In summary, there's no rule saying "print it as it exists/or would exist" in
/dev.
With sd[a-z] et al, there's usually no mismatch, because there's no separator.

Notice kpartx has the -p option:
-p set device name-partition number delimiter

kpartx is one of the tools that gives you that option (which is great, but
actually leads to the "problems" noticed)
Most other tools just hard-code 'p' and that's all.
And, on kparx, the /default/ is 'p'., but you can choose.

So, if you list multipath partitions w/ kpartx, choose the separator:

# kpartx -l -p SEPARATOR /dev/mapper/mpath0
mpath0SEPARATOR1 : 0 14336 /dev/mapper/mpath0 2048
mpath0SEPARATOR2 : 0 64239616 /dev/mapper/mpath0 16384
mpath0SEPARATOR3 : 0 2850816 /dev/mapper/mpath0 64256000

Then, we get to thing #2, the creation of the block devices.

On multipath, again, this is different from other/non-multipath block
devices, because there must be some more talk with the kernel (to create
the device mappings, I guess, and assign them to a given block device,
/dev/something).

This is done with kpartx. See its manpage:

This tool, derived from util-linux' partx, reads partition tables on
specified device and create device maps over partitions segments
detected. It is called from hotplug upon device maps creation and
deletion.

So, it reads the partition table (which just says 'partition 1, 2, 3'; no
separator informed, of course),
and then (different thing) creates block devices in /dev.

This also uses the '-p' option to choose a separator.
If you look at the udev rules, which create the block devices when a multipath
disk is detected (i.e., run 'multipath'):

$ grep -H -- -part /lib/udev/rules.d/*kpartx*
/lib/udev/rules.d/95-kpartx.rules:
SYMLINK+="disk/by-id/$env{DM_TYPE}-$env{DM_NAME}-part$env{DM_PART}"
/lib/udev/rules.d/95-kpartx.rules:RUN+="/sbin/dmsetup ls --target
multipath --exec '/sbin/kpartx -a -p -part' -j %M -m %m"
/lib/udev/rules.d/95-kpartx.rules:RUN+="/sbin/kpartx -a -p -part
/dev/$kernel"

Which just says: use '-part' when creating the block devices for
multipath partitions on /dev/mapper.

Finishing..

The bug title is "Need a common format for partition listing using
kpartx,fdisk.distrib and ls -l "

That's mistaken, because "ls -l" is not listing partitions, it is listing
"block devices" in /dev/mapper/.
Sorry, but that's it. :)

It just happens to be consistent w/ partitioning tools for non-multipath
partitions for a coincidence / no need for disk-partitoin separator.
That's all.

And, BTW, *if* you want to *list* existing multipath partitions in a way
that's coherent w/ what's in /dev/mapper,
you have to find what's the separator adopted for udev (in this case, "-part"),
and use it in "kpartx -l -p -part".

$ sudo kpartx -l -p -part /dev/mapper/mpath0
mpath0-part1 : 0 14336 /dev/mapper/mpath0 2048
mpath0-part2 : 0 64239616 /dev/mapper/mpath0 16384
mpath0-part3 : 0 2850816 /dev/mapper/mpath0 64256000

But remember, those are different things :)

If some tooling broke because of that, it's not generic enough; and must be
fixed.
(for reference, libparted has to check whether a partition/device is on
device-mapper for listing its name.)

[Bug 1409639] Re: juju needs to support systemd for >= vivid

2015-03-11 Thread Martin Pitt
> Which upstream release are you expecting us to pull in to Vivid to fix
this please?

As Juju has a "newer versions allowed" exception even for stables, that
should equally apply to the current development series. So while I'm not
officially in ~ubuntu-release, I'd say "whichever one works" is an
acceptable answer? (Not sure whether I misunderstood the question)

[Bug 1422388] Re: Fetch passwords from CloudStack virtual router

2015-03-11 Thread Dan Watkins
** Description changed:

+ === Begin SRU Information ===
+
+ [Impact]
+ Currently, the CloudStack data source will only handle SSH keys. While SSH
keys are the preferred method for authenticating against cloud instances, there
are some CloudStack deployments that do not yet support adding SSH keys to
instances when creating instances via their web interface. Ubuntu images are
unusable through the web interface for users of these CloudStack deployments.
+
+ [Fix]
+ The CloudStack data source has been extended to interface with CloudStack's
password server in order to fetch passwords. These passwords are applied to
the ubuntu user.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Create an instance through a CloudStack web interface, which will give you a
password. Confirm that this password can be used to log in to the ubuntu user.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ The changes are limited to the CloudStack data source so only CloudStack
users will be affected. They are designed so that if they fail, they won't
stop the CloudStack data source from functioning as it currently does.
+
+ === End SRU Information ===
+
CloudStack supports setting passwords in instances, which it would be
helpful to support. See [0] for the documentation of this functionality,
and [1] for their implementation of it.

[Bug 1413827] Re: package samba-common 2:4.1.6+dfsg-1ubuntu2.14.04.4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 10

2015-03-11 Thread scott mowerson
Hey I decided that Maybe My Problem is with the packages that seem to be
cross-dependent on each other so that none of them can be completely
installed/configured:
 cups-daemon
 samba
 winbind
 cups-core-drivers
 cups
 unattended-upgrades

So I removed each package using 'sudo apt-get' to see if I can get to point
where the errors disappear.
I also ran apt-get autoremove to remove any packages that were no longer needed
(in case they contained any pointers that would recreate problems when time
came to install these above packages again).

Then, HOPEFULLY, I will be able to reinstall these packages cleanly (one
at a time if possible).

OK NOW THINGS ARE LOOKING CLEAN

I will now re-run the following to prove error messages are gone:
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

YEA – I no longer get error messages.

NOW – I need to figure out the correct priority to re-install the
removed packages.

 samba
 winbind

 cups-daemon
 cups-core-drivers
 cups

 unattended-upgrades

[Bug 1430936] [NEW] /usr/share/doc/apache2/examples/setup-instance neglects to create symlinkjs a2enconf-$SUFFIX and a2disconf-$SUFFIX in /usr/local/sbin

2015-03-11 Thread Patrick
Public bug reported:

The apache2 package provides an example script:
/usr/share/doc/apache2/examples/setup-instance

use of which is described in:
/usr/share/doc/apache2/README.multiple-instances

This setup-instance script creates the following symbolic links for the new
apache2 instance, e.g. "XXX":
/usr/local/sbin/a2enmod-XXX -> /usr/sbin/a2enmod
/usr/local/sbin/a2dismod-XXX -> /usr/sbin/a2dismod
/usr/local/sbin/a2ensite-XXX -> /usr/sbin/a2ensite
/usr/local/sbin/a2dissite-XXX -> /usr/sbin/a2dissite
/usr/local/sbin/apache2ctl-XXX -> /usr/sbin/apache2ctl
/usr/local/sbin/apache2ctl-XXX -> /usr/sbin/apache2ctl

It should similarly create:
/usr/local/sbin/a2enconf-XXX -> /usr/sbin/a2enconf
/usr/local/sbin/a2disconf-XXX -> /usr/sbin/a2disconf

That is, line 28, which reads:
   for a in a2enmod a2dismod a2ensite a2dissite apache2ctl ; do

should instead read:
   for a in a2enconf a2disconf a2enmod a2dismod a2ensite a2dissite apache2ctl ;
do

[Bug 1429938] Re: stopping ssh.service closes existing ssh connections

2015-03-11 Thread Jason Gerard DeRose
So interestingly, this isn't happening when I just type these commands
into an SSH session. But if you create a script like this in say
/tmp/test.sh:

#!/bin/bash
apt-get -y purge openssh-server ssh-import-id
apt-get -y autoremove
shutdown -h now

And then execute this through an ssh call like this:

$ ssh root@whatever /tmp/test.sh

I get the disconnection problem.

2015-03-11 Thread Jason Gerard DeRose
Hmm, now I'm thinking this has nothing to do with openssh-server.

I think the problem is actually that when I run this over SSH:

# shutdown -h now

My ssh client exists with status 255... whereas running the same thing
prior to the flip-over to systemd would exit with status 0.

Same problem when running `reboot`, which I'd say is even more important

port 2207 is running Vivid:

0
jderose@jgd-kudp1:~$ ssh root@localhost -p 2207 reboot

[Bug 1429938] Re: reboot does not return under systemd

2015-03-11 Thread Martin Pitt
Ah right, that makes more sense. By definition, "shutdown -h now" or
"poweroff" etc. are racy -- sometimes it "survives" and comes back,
sometimes the shutdown of the machine is too fast. It seems that with
systemd it's just a bit faster. I suggest calling "shutdown -h +1", or
if you don't want to wait for a minute, perhaps "(sleep 3; poweroff )
&"?

[Bug 1430025] Re: maas uninstallable on vivid

2015-03-11 Thread Martin Pitt
This sounds like bug 1429734. That effect on PostgreSQL was that after
apt-get install postgresql-9.4 the cluster wasn't running if your system
was in "degraded" mode, i. e. you had at least one failed unit. This was
fixed yesterday.

Another possibility was the race condition fixed in
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/postgresql-common/166bzr2 (stuck in
proposed for a while, but should migrate in a few minutes now), which
also caused postgresql@9.4-.service to not start up, while the
"umbrella" postgresql.service was running (but that's just a no-op, and
mostly just a dependency target).

Can you please re-try with the current vivid versions and with p-common
166bzr2?

[Bug 1431051] [NEW] Request to update RDAC related code in multipath-tools

2015-03-11 Thread Sean Stewart
Public bug reported:

OS Version: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
Package version: 0.4.9-3ubuntu7.2

Description:
NetApp would like to get the multipath-tools package updated, at a minimum, to
have the latest changes for the files:
libmultipath/prioritizers/rdac.c
libmultipath/checkers/rdac.c

This would fix a few issues, as well as improve the experience with
multipathd and our E-Series storage, in general.

>From the debian git repo here:
>git://git.debian.org/git/pkg-lvm/multipath-tools.git
I can see that it is up to date on multipath-tools version 0.5.0, and has all
of the changes we are looking for.

If you would rather cherry pick patches to pull from upstream, rather
than updating the entire package, please let me know and I will work
with you to figure out which ones, and port them.

[Bug 1278529] Re: Using S3, "BackendException: No connection to backend"

2015-03-11 Thread Rainer Müller
I had the same BackendException on Debian wheezy with duplicity
0.6.24-1~bpo70 and python-boto 2.25.0-1~bpo7. I solved this for me by
forcing boto to use "Signature Version 4" for API requests. Export this
variable into the shell environment before running duply:

export S3_USE_SIGV4="True"
duply ...

According to the AWS documentation [1], new regions introduced after
January 2014 do not support older signature versions in API requests. In
my case, the endpoint I use is Frankfurt, EU which was introduced after
this date. This version of boto supports the new signatures, but does
not seem to use them without being told to do so.

Also make sure you use the hostname for your region in the URL such as
s3://s3-eu-central-1.amazonaws.com//. I hope this helps anyone
stumbling across this bug report even if it is already fixed in
duplicity >= 0.7.01 as stated above.

[Bug 539467] Re: SATA link power management causes disk errors and corruption

2015-03-11 Thread Wurlitzer
Uninstalling the tlp package resolved this issue for me (Ubuntu 14.04).

Disabling laptop_mode also seemed to help:
echo 0 > /proc/sys/vm/laptop_mode

[Bug 201786] Re: ssh Agent admitted failure to sign using the key on big endian machines

2015-03-11 Thread Adam Katz
Summary of problem (for me):

* ssh host fails with "ssh Agent admitted failure"
* SSH_AUTH_SOCK= ssh host works just fine
* Conclusion: gnome-keyring can't deal with complex keys

WORKAROUND:

mv $SSH_AUTH_SOCK $SSH_AUTH_SOCK.broken
ssh-agent -a $SSH_AUTH_SOCK

This is a new instance of ssh-agent, so it won't have any keys in it
(despite what seahorse says, since that's tied to the .broken agent).
You'll have to add them via ssh-add.
