[Bug 1492212] [NEW] postinst should validate config before restarting bind

2015-09-04 Thread James Troup
Public bug reported:

We recently had a bind9 package upgrade take out DNS services for a
production cloud because named failed to come up after the postinst
restarted it. So obviously, a) our DNS shouldn't be a SPOF and b) we
shouldn't let our config files get into a state where named refuses to
start, but, with that said, the bind9 postinst could be more robust
against this kind of failure mode.

Specifically it could run named-checkconf against /etc/bind/named.conf
and, if it returns 1, either:

 a) skip the restart and scream loudly to warn the admin

or

 b) abort the package install by erroring out of the postinst at that
point

2015-09-04 Thread Robie Basak
Thanks James.

I think I favour b) since a) would only be noticed by someone watching
console output. Though having said that, the situation wouldn't be any
worse than before the postinst was run.

This needs to be forwarded to Debian.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.
Specifically, since /etc/mysql/my.cnf.fallback is shipped by this
package, it seems to me that you have it deleted locally.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers

Without steps to reproduce the problem, there is little that can be done
on this bug. I'll mark this bug as Incomplete for now, pending someone
else confirming that it is a bug or unless someone can provide steps to

Thanks for the quick turnaround, could you please backport the fix
to 1507 trunk ?
We have several stacks where we need to manually apply
above workaround for corosync/pacemaker to behave properly,
and several coming down the line before 1510.

FYI I while fixing hacluster trunk (essentially came out with the same
changes), had to add a line to test_hacluster_utils.py to pass unittests:

[Bug 1492227] [NEW] 0.94.3 stable update

2015-09-04 Thread James Page
Public bug reported:

V0.94.3 HAMMER

This Hammer point release fixes a critical (though rare) data corruption
bug that could be triggered when logs are rotated via SIGHUP. It also
fixes a range of other important bugs in the OSD, monitor, RGW, RGW, and
CephFS.

All v0.94.x Hammer users are strongly encouraged to upgrade.

UPGRADING

The pg ls-by-{pool,primary,osd} commands and pg ls now take the argument
recovering instead of recovery in order to include the recovering pgs in the
listed pgs.

[Bug 1491155] Re: package libapache2-mod-php5 5.6.4+dfsg-4ubuntu6.2 failed to install/upgrade: el subproceso instalado el script post-installation devolvió el código de salida de error 1

2015-09-04 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.
Specifically you have locally deleted conffiles.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

[Bug 1490361] Re: IncompatibleObjectVersion: Version 1.2 of PciDeviceList is not supported

2015-09-04 Thread Tobias Urdin
I had the same issue after upgrading nova components.
The issue was that nova-conductor and nova-compute services did not use the
same version.

I upgraded using apt-get upgrade but it didn't seem to update nova-
conductor. After a apt-get -f upgrade nova-conductor the nova-conductor
package was upgraded to same version as nova-compute and then it worked.
Confirm by checking the package versions (dpkg -l | grep nova).

[Bug 1492262] [NEW] maas-enlist-udeb fails enlistment because of missing curl

2015-09-04 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Public bug reported:

Looks like maas-enlist-udeb (the maas-enlist function for d-i, which
gets run when one selects the ubuntu-server ISO menu option "Multiple
server install using MAAS", has been failing at least since Trusty.

Attached are screenshots and logs for attempting a provisioning via
MAAS, but the enlist step fails: curl is not found, even though the
curl-udeb package is installed.

The system would normally silently fail to enlist and logs be somewhat
hard to get since maas-enlist-udeb.postinst forces a shutdown at its
end, regardless of the result of running /usr/bin/maas-enlist. The
postinst file was modified to remove the shutdown in order to get the
logs.

[Bug 1477225] Re: ceph-radosgw restart fails

2015-09-04 Thread Liam Young
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

On 14.04 the restart target of the sysvinit script brings the service down
but sometimes fails to bring the service back up again. There is a race
between stop and start and in the failure case the attempt to bring the service
up runs before the service has been stopped and the start command is never
issued:

The proposed fix updates /etc/init.d/radosgw so that the stop target
waits for up to 30 seconds for the service to stop cleanly

  [Regression Potential]

   * The only change in behaviour that would result from this change is that
running the stop target in the init script will wait for up to 30s before
exiting rather than retuning immediatly. I cannot think of any use cases
where this would be an issue.

[Bug 1477225] Re: ceph-radosgw restart fails

2015-09-04 Thread Liam Young
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

On 14.04 the restart target of the sysvinit script brings the service down
- but almost always fails to bring the service back up again.
+ but sometimes fails to bring the service back up again. There is a race
between stop and start and in the failure case the attempt to bring the service
up runs before the service has been stopped and the start command is never
issued:

The proposed fix updates /etc/init.d/radosgw so that the stop target
waits for up to 30 seconds for the service to stop cleanly

  [Test Case]

- sudo apt-get install --yes radosgw
- sudo mkdir /etc/ceph
- sudo su -

  [Regression Potential]

   * The only change in behaviour that would result from this change is that
running the stop target in the init script will wait for up to 30s before
exiting rather than retuning immediatly. I cannot think of any use cases
where this would be an issue.

[Bug 1439649] Re: Pacemaker unable to communicate with corosync on restart under lxc

2015-09-04 Thread Serge Hallyn
Hi Billy,

So can you confirm that pacemaker *is* running under haclient/hacluster
uid/gid?

Note, the comments above don't seem correct to me. The 'INSTALL' file
shipped with corosync says:

> Before running any of the test programs
> ---
> The corosync executive will ensure security by only allowing the UID 0(root)
> or
> GID 0(root) to connect to it. To allow other users to access the corosync

So the 'workaround' in comment #14 seems to be not a a workaround but
required configuration (for the charm to do).

[Bug 1492386] [NEW] mount-image-callback: must specify format to qemu-nbd

2015-09-04 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

at some point recently, qemu-nbd (and qemu also) started complaining
about raw devices.

qemu-nbd will actually refuse to connect and exit failure unless you
specify --format if it does not detect the format.

the end result is that on wily right now:
  mount-image-callback partititioned-disk-image.raw /bin/bash

will fail.

Additionally, because of the way it fails, it actually never disconnects
from the device.

It looks like this:

$ sudo mount-image-callback -vvv /tmp/disk.img -- /bin/bash
WARNING: Image format was not specified for '/tmp/disk.img' and probing guessed
raw.
Automatically detecting the format is dangerous for raw images, write
operations on block 0 will be restricted.
Specify the 'raw' format explicitly to remove the restrictions.

2015-09-04 Thread Jean-Pierre Rupp
When connecting to an OpenVPN network with NetworkManager, I see these
same messages just after dnsmasq reports "using nameserver ...," then
the system fails to use those nameservers. This means that my system is
not using the DNS servers that correspond to the VPN, but those that
were already set in the system. The upgrade that caused this must have
happened earlier today. It was working fine less than two hours ago.

[Bug 1491972] Re: glib/gmem.c: custom memory allocation vtable not supported

2015-09-04 Thread Serge Hallyn
Hm, this comes from vl.c:2989 (in git) calling
g_mem_set_vtable(_trace), which has been around since 2011 to add
tracepoints for g_malloc/g_free.

https://github.com/GNOME/glib/blob/master/glib/gmem.c shows that this
function is deprecated.

This means that tracing won't work right, but should otherwise be
innocuous. Will see what upstream thinks about it.

[Bug 1492425] [NEW] multipath-tools: wily: adjust the patch handle_spaces_in_rev_attr.patch

2015-09-04 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Public bug reported:

Please adjust the patch handle_spaces_in_rev_attr.patch.

When applying the upstream commit on top of the Debian source,
the change ends up on the wrong line,
as described in BTS#782400 comment #15 [1].

  Applying patch handle_spaces_in_rev_attr.patch
  patching file libmultipath/discovery.c
Hunk #1 succeeded at 783 (offset -312 lines).

The patch attached fixes that, with a quilt refresh after applying the
change to the right line.

[Bug 1435706] Re: DevLossTO, FastIoFailTO settings do not match multipath.conf expected values

2015-09-04 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Hi,

The re-verification of this shows it's indeed fixed with multipath-tools
0.4.9-3ubuntu7.4.
Details provided.

Software version check:

# lsb_release -d
Description:Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS

# dpkg -s multipath-tools | grep ^Version:
Version: 0.4.9-3ubuntu7.4

Set known values to the fast_io_fail_tmo (21) and dev_loss_tmo (42) files,
and activate multipathd to re-set the values according to its configuration.

# /etc/init.d/multipath-tools stop
 * Stopping multipath daemon multipathd
   ...done.

# for fastiofail in
/sys/class/fc_remote_ports/rport-*/fast_io_fail_tmo; do echo 21 > $fastiofail;
done
# grep -h . /sys/class/fc_remote_ports/rport-*/fast_io_fail_tmo | sort
-u
21

# for devloss in /sys/class/fc_remote_ports/rport-*/dev_loss_tmo; do
echo 42 > $devloss; done
# grep -h . /sys/class/fc_remote_ports/rport-*/dev_loss_tmo | sort -u
42

# /etc/init.d/multipath-tools start
 * Starting multipath daemon multipathd
   ...done.

The storage products used:

# multipath -l | grep ^mpath | cut -d, -f2 | sort -u
2107900
2145
2810XIV
FlashSystem-9840

The active configuration for them:

# multipathd -k'show config' | grep '{\|}\|product\|tmo'
defaults {
fast_io_fail_tmo 10
}
...
devices {
...
device {
product "2107900"
}
device {
product "2145"
dev_loss_tmo 120
}
...
device {
product "2810XIV"
}
device {
product "FlashSystem-9840"
fast_io_fail_tmo 25
dev_loss_tmo 300
}
}
...

The active configuration is sysfs:

The sysfs setting (see below) are all set correctly,
according to the multipath configuration (above).

On rports to 2107900 or 2810XIV, devloss = 42 (not specified; system)
and fastiofail = 10 (defaults).
On rports to 2145, devloss = 120 (device), fastiofail = 10 (defaults).
On rports to 9840, devloss = 300 (product) and fastiofail = 25
(product).

On rports not connected to any of those, the system/known values
are left unchanged.

With the patch applied, the fc timeout attributes correctly propagate
through multipath verbose logs, and the sysfs attributes -- verification

[Bug 1435706] debdiff for multipath-tools 0.4.9-3ubuntu7.2

2015-09-04 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment on attachment From mauri...@br.ibm.com 2015-06-23 13:14
EDT---

Hi Canonical,

This patch incorporates the upstream commits in order to apply the
fibrechannel dev_loss and fast_io_fail timeout attributes from
multipath.conf into sysfs.

It targets the 14.04.x LTS series, but it should apply fine to 14.10 and
15.04 (except for debian/changelog context lines, obviously). No need
for 15.10 which should get a multipath-tools upgrade that includes the
commits.

Thanks!

[Bug 1439649] Re: Pacemaker unable to communicate with corosync on restart under lxc

2015-09-04 Thread Billy Olsen
Serge,

I did double check that the pacemaker processes were running under
hacluster/haclient uid/gid. I will double check for my own sanity (I may
have seen one running as root). However, according to the pacemaker docs
that I referenced above, root and hacluster users should always have
full access (which is somewhat in conflict with the INSTALL file you
reference):

> Users are regular UNIX users, so the same user accounts must be present on

If it were a necessity to add the ACL entry, then I would have expected
that the hacluster charm code would always have needed this requirement
and pacemaker should have always denied access. Additionally, since the
charm has done no configuration of the ACLs, I would expect all nodes to
get denied or allowed the same. Instead, what has been observed is that
*some* of the nodes in the cluster have the pacemaker process
successfully communicate with the corosync process, while others get
this invalid credentials error that is seen.

I've already proposed a change (which has been merged into the /next
branches of the hacluster charm) which incorporates JuanJo's comments
(thank you JuanJo!) by explicitly defining the ACL entry, but would
better like to understand why the inconsistent behavior.

There's already this fix in trusty-proposed, though not quite using

difficult to review and conclusively say there are no regressions).

[Bug 1267393] Re: [MIR] juju-core, juju-mongodb, gccgo, golang

2015-09-04 Thread Jamie Strandboge
In addition to Seth's review, I can say that juju needs to make some packaging
changes to meet the MIR requirements I set forth in the last comment.
Specifically:
 * should use golang now for all supported archs (!powerpc)
 * should move embedded libraries out to proper packages
 * should use Built-Using in debian/control
 * should use dh-golang and follow Debian Go packaging guidlines (see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MIRTeam)

The above should not be considered a comprehensive list-- there might be
more that Seth find in the security review or others find in the
packaging review.

[Bug 1336568] Re: LVMiSCSI driver can't issue direct I/O through tgtd to iscsi volume

2015-09-04 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Mitsuhiro, or anyone else affected,

Accepted cinder into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cinder/1:2014.1.5-0ubuntu2 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1267393] Re: [MIR] juju-core, juju-mongodb, gccgo, golang

2015-09-04 Thread Jamie Strandboge
I did not perform a code or packaging review for golang. I did
reevaluate the current situation wrt static linking and under what
conditions, if any, golang and packages depending on it would be
supportable in main. In general, statically compiled binaries are not
suitable for the Ubuntu archive because they increase the maintenance
burden significantly.

golang 1.4 packages and earlier could only statically compile their
binaries. golang 1.5 introduces -buildmode=shared to build shared
libraries and -linkshared to dynamically link against shared libraries.
wily now has golang 1.5 and Canonical is working on shared libraries for
the remaining supported architectures. The golang project has stated
that 1.6 will include shared library support for all the architectures
that we officially support, and golang 1.6 will be available before
16.04 is released.

The understanding has always been that if golang had proper shared
library support enabled for archive builds by default, then there are no
additional maintenance concerns beyond the packages themselves. A lot of
effort has gone into shared library support in golang, this has all been
upstreamed and is in wily now. While the work is not done yet (eg, arm64
is not finished), I think we can reach across the aisle and define how
to support a limited set of (strategic) golang packages while the shared
library support is being finished.

In support of this, I've defined the MIR requirements for packages
depending on golang[1][2] and have defined the security team processes
for properly supporting them[3]. So long as the number of packages
remains low and only as in interim solution, strategic (to Canonical)
golang projects that statically build their binaries may be considered
for MIR provided they follow the guidelines outlined in the wiki. It is
vitally important to understand that even with these procedures, the
process does not scale and we all must push forward to have golang 1.6
for 16.04 with shared library support on by default.

As such, golang-go has security team signoff provided the following conditions
are met:
 * the Ubuntu Foundations team/et al state their commitment to golang 1.6 with
shared library support on by default in 16.04
 * all packages that depend on golang that are in main must transition to
golang 1.6 and use shared libraries. In terms of this MIR, the juju team must
state their commitment in this bug
 * In addition to a bug subscriber, a team must state their commitment to
supporting golang in Ubuntu (officially supporting a language is
resource-intensive and we must ensure the resources are in place to do properly
support those that depend on the language)
 * as per the MIRteam requirements, the juju team must state their commitment
to testing no-change-rebuilds triggered by a dependent library/compiler and to
fix any issues found for the lifetime of the release
 * ideally, a commitment (possibly Foundations and juju?) is stated in this bug
that Ubuntu will work with Debian on dh_golang so that it properly supports
shared libraries. This is not a strict requirement from the security team, but
it will almost certainly provide the easiest path forward

Once the above commitments are stated in this bug, I'll provide security
team ACK for golang.

[Bug 1492468] Re: ConfigDrive fails to provision when network interface key is "interfaces"

** Description changed:

- The ConfigDrive datasource fails to provision on ConfigDrive capable
- clouds that use "interfaces" rather than "network-interfaces". This is
- only seen on 12.04.
+ [SRU Justification]

- meta_data.json:
+ [IMPACT] The ConfigDrive datasource fails to provision on ConfigDrive
+ capable clouds that use "interfaces" rather than "network-interfaces".
+
+ This is only seen on 12.04. As a result, some Cloud providers are unable
+ to use Cloud-init to provision Ubuntu Instances
+
+ [FIX] The fix is simple: allow for both "network-interfaces" and
+ "interfaces" when reading the meta-data.
+
+ [REGRESSION POTENTIAL] This is a mild-risk change. CloudDrive has been
+ implemented by many Cloud Providers and this change implements a new set
+ of behavior. The most likely scenerio is that Cloud-init on Ubuntu 12.04
+ will start work where it has been broken previously.
+
+ [TEST CASES 1] :
+ 1. Build new images from proposed
+ 2. Boot image on Cloud w/ "instance" as the metadata value
+ 3. Boot image on Cloud w/ "network-interfaces" as the metadata value
+ 4. Check to make sure that cloud-init provisioned with out errors
+
+ [TEST CASE 2]:
+ 1. Build existing Ubuntu image on ConfigDrive provisioned cloud
+ 2. Check for any errors in the logs
+ 3. Upgrade cloud-init
+ 4. Reboot and check for errors in logs
+ 5. Create a new instance from existing instance
+ 6. Check for errors in the log.
+
+
+ The following meta_data.json is from an instance showing the problem:
  {
  "domain": "foobar.com",

[Bug 1444904] Re: mysql 5.6 segfault on audit plugin usage

2015-09-04 Thread Steve Langasek
Per Seb, please rebase your changes on the current version of the
mysql-5.6 package in trusty-updates (currently -0ubuntu0.14.04.4). When
this is done please provide your changes as a debdiff, not a full source
package, so that they can more easily be applied to the archive.

Please also update the description of this bug with the information
required in order to process this as a SRU, as described at
.

Once you've completed all of the above, you can re-subscribe the ubuntu-
sponsors team for us to review. Thanks!

[Bug 1477174] Re: [SRU] 0.80.10 stable release

2015-09-04 Thread David Medberry
~mriedem looks like the above isn't the case, that you made fixes to
glance_store and rbd. Is there still suspicion that 0.80.10 is
contributing to the breakage.

  * Ignore init when doing cg_migrate_everywhere. Otherwise, inside a

simply no reason to do this in the first place. (LP: #1491557)
