[Bug 1442112] Re: booting ppc64el with hwe-u kernel hangs in initrd

2015-09-08 Thread Sagar Shukla
Part of my production environment was configured with MAAS 1.5 version
and recently I upgraded MAAS to 1.8 version after which I start seeing
issues while configuring 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04.5 image.

Any workaround available?

I am kind of blocked to do provisioning. Earliest update would be very
much appreciated.

[Bug 1491111] Re: add bcache-tools to trusty archive

2015-09-08 Thread Scott Moser
Ubuntu Wily has bcache-tools 1.0.8 release. There are no major changes
to bcache itself [1] save fixes for working in systemd pre-boot
environments, which for Trusty won't matter. There are a number of
package fixes related to 1.0.8 introduction of a bcache_register
program introduced for systemd preboot support. However I don't see
any compelling reason to use 1.0.8 in Trusty over what's already in
Vivid and tested (1.0.7).

This results in a no-change backport of the bcache-tools package in
Vivid into Trusty.

The MAAS and Ubuntu Server team have been testing the package from Vivid
for some time and have not found any major issues in the core function
of the package. The most common item brought up is that the interface
(sysfs) for releasing devices from bcache is somewhat awkward. I've
started on a script[2] aimed to help and will push that upstream as it
becomes tested and used.

The package that has been being tested is at https://launchpad.net
/~maas-maintainers/+archive/ubuntu/experimental/+packages with a debdiff
at https://launchpadlibrarian.net/214149908/bcache-
tools_1.0.8-2_1.0.7-1%7E14.04.diff.gz

[Bug 1272016] Re: Which interface to bind maas-region-controller to should be a debconf question

2015-09-08 Thread LaMont Jones
In cases where there is no clear "best default", a high-priority debconf
question is warranted. If the package is being installed on a machine
with multiple configured network interfaces, I don't think we have a
clear "best" answer. OTOH, I think that if there is only one interface,
then it makes sense to default to that and not bother the user.

Assuming the bug does reproduce on Debian and there isn't a bug filed
there already, then yes - someone needs to in order to drive this bug
towards a resolution. If you don't have time for this then that's fine -
this bug can remain open until someone else gets to it.

[Bug 1493067] Re: ssh-copy-id does not work with fish on the other machine

2015-09-08 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

This sounds reasonable. ssh-copy-id should not be making any assumptions
about the user's default shell on the remote machine. It might be better
for it to call sh explicitly, since sh (compatibility) is more
universally availability.

someone can acquire an exception from the release team and drive this

[Bug 1493299] Re: package mysql-server-core-5.6 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/sbin/mysqld', which is also in package mysql-server 5.5.44-2

2015-09-08 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for your report.

mysql-5.5 version 5.5.44-2 never shipped in Ubuntu. If the source of
this package supports this use, then please file a bug there.. So from
Ubuntu's perspective this looks like a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu.

You can find pointers to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Since we use this bug tracker to track bugs in Ubuntu, rather than
configuration problems, I'm marking this bug as Invalid. This helps us
to focus on fixing bugs in Ubuntu.

If you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

[Bug 1493049] Re: memory corruption during live-migration in TCG mode

2015-09-08 Thread Pavel Boldin
@serge-hallyn,

This patch is exactly what fixes the problem for me (was able to do
around 150 successful migrations with it).

However, this should be rewritten to only contain exactly calls to
tlb_flush when in TCG mode so there is no extra code and no unrelated
changes.

The reason patches are different is quite reworked migration and dirtying
mechanisms in new QEMU.

In exactly, new QEMU KVM has no `log_global_start' handler and the
regions are to be marked as DIRTY_MEMORY_MIGRATE by the `log_start'
handlers which are called only starting with the referenced patch in
upstream. This call is done deeply in memory_region_transaction_commit
-> address_space_update_topology -> *_pass.

Regarding the DIRTY_MEMORY_CODE, in the 2.0.0 it is used only inside the
TCG-related code. Every time a TranslationBlock code is generated for a
given VM code the pages of VM code are removed from TLB cache and marked
as 'clean'. So, on next write to the VM code pages the TLB will be
missed and the TranslationBlock will be updated accordingly.

[Bug 1475118] Re: It would be nice to get Samba 4.2 in Wily (4.1 in Maintenance mode for 6 more months. EOL by 10/2016)

2015-09-08 Thread msaxl
debian now has samba 4.2.1 in experimental. This should be a good
starting point

I've used samba 4.1 and now I am on 4.2 on arch (used as ad-server). 4.2
to me seems to be more stable (winbindd simply works better than the now
obsolete "source4" winbind; even on winbindd they made some
improvements), so I would be happy to see 4.2 in 5.10
