2015-12-07 Thread Dyno
@armin-kunaschik, can you help to try these steps and help to isolate if
it is vmware problem or packaging problem? thanks!

apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-generic git
apt-get install libmspack-dev libglib2.0-dev libprocps3-dev libdnet-dev
libdumbnet-dev

git clone https://github.com/vmware/open-vm-tools.git
git checkout stable-9.10.x
./configure --without-x --without-pam --without-ssl --without-icu
make MODULES=vmhgfs
insmod modules/linux/vmhgfs/vmhgfs.ko

mount -t vmhgfs .host:/ /mnt
ls /mnt

with the above steps, i don't see a problem to list/update files in
shared folder...

[Bug 1523714] [NEW] vNIC IP address is not popultaed on Nova-list when creating multipe VMs using heat

2015-12-07 Thread Noura Daadaa
Public bug reported:

I am using Openstack on Linux , i know this problem maybe solved in
newer supported releases,

When i create multiple VMs using heat template , each VM have 2 vNIC's
toward 2 different networks, one or more VM will not have any IP address
under Nova-List , but if i use nova interfaces show for those VM who
have no ip i can see all IPs available .

i am wondering if there is network cache refresh parameter to force
flushing the old network/nova cache somewhere ? or if there is any
attribute to force the stack to wait while creating each VM as this
problem for me seems to be race condition on heat when creating mutplie
VMs in the same time, specially if those VMs have multiple interfaces
toward multiple networks.

i am using Juno,

Thanks

Yes, I'm certain that I hand-edited the file, feel free to close the bug. I
_assumed_ that the example file would be correct for the installed package,
silly me.

[Bug 1523656] [NEW] Missing my-default.cnf Failing mysql_install_db

If you compiled from source, you need to run 'make install' to
copy the software into the correct location ready for operation.

If you are using a binary release, you must either be at the top
level of the extracted archive, or pass the --basedir option
pointing to that location.

[Bug 1520192] Re: multipath-tools from Precise should have been fixed together with Trusty fixes

2015-12-07 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
This is the debdiff with changes from trusty to precise. Those changes
are basically fixing behaviour PER comments showing that. No major (or
even minor) version was changed so this is - IMHO - suitable for SRU.
This also has been tested - PER PPA with hotfix provided - and proved
to work.

Thank you in advance

Rafael Tinoco

** Patch added: "precise_multipath-tools_0.4.9-3ubuntu5.4.debdiff"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/multipath-tools/+bug/1520192/+attachment/4531093/+files/precise_multipath-tools_0.4.9-3ubuntu5.4.debdiff

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * Multipath from precise proves to have problems with failover
+ * This can lead to bad I/O if openstack relies on VNX, for example
+ * "failed/online" path status is NEVER good and I/O corruption can happen
+ * Minimum can happen is a GUEST freeze if relying on path in question
+ * Other applications might suffer the same
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Described fully in comment #3 (comments #1 and #2 are related)
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * This patches are the exact change that happen in Precise -> Trusty
+development. No major changes or versions were made.
+ * A PPA with a hotfix was created in order to test those changes and

+ Original BUG Description:
+
Precise multipath-tools MIGHT need fixes from trusty. This has already
been proved in one iSCSI multipath installation where precise multipath,
intermittently, connected to VNX storages show paths as: active/failed
when it should show - even after the path check timeout - faulty/failed.

  * Improve description showing output *

Using trusty multipath in Precise, the same environment does NOT suffer
  from this issue.

[Bug 1125726] Re: boot-time race between /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate and "/etc/init.d/ntp start"

2015-12-07 Thread Cam Cope
** Description changed:

- We're seeing a race between if-up.d/ntpdate and the ntp startup script.
+ [Impact]
+ * Hardware clocks are not stepped at boot, which can prevent NTP from ever
+ syncing the clock.
+ Incorrect clocks can cause serious issues in distributed systems.

- 1) if-up.d/ntpdate starts.
- 2) if-up.d/ntpdate acquires the lock "/var/lock/ntpdate-ifup".
- 3) if-up.d/ntpdate stops the ntp service [which isn't running anyway].
- 4) if-up.d/ntpdate starts running ntpdate, which bids UDP *.ntp
- 5) /etc/init.d/rc 2 executes "/etc/rc2.d/S20ntp start"
- 6) /etc/init.d/ntp acquires the lock "/var/lock/ntpdate".
- 7) /etc/init.d/ntp starts the ntp daemon.
- 8) The ntp daemon logs an error, complaining that it cannot bind UDP *.ntp.
- 9) if-up.d/ntpdate now starts the ntp service.
+ * Upstream originally added a lock file to eliminate a race between the ntp
+ service (which keeps the clock synchronized during normal operation) and
+ ntpdate (which is used to step the clock by large intervals at boot time).
+ That change had a flaw which introduced a deadlock. An Ubuntu patch was
+ applied which broke the locking mechanism entirely, reintroducing the race
+ condition.

- The result is a weird churn, though ntpd does end up running at the end.
+ * This change undoes the Ubuntu patch and fixes the deadlock by unlocking
+ before attempting to start the ntp service.

- Should these not be using the same lock file?
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * There are two bugs: The race, and the deadlock. To reproduce the race more
+ consistently:
+ - add 'sleep 30' to '/etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate' on the line preceding
+ '/usr/sbin/ntpdate-debian -s $OPTS 2>/dev/null || :', and comment out
+ 'invoke-rc.d --quiet $service stop >/dev/null 2>&1 || true'. This will
+ reproduce the case where the ntp service starts between the stop command
+ and the ntpdate command.
+ The result will be that the ntpdate command fails. There will be a
+ message in syslog like:
+ 'ntpdate[17660]: the NTP socket is in use, exiting'
+ - Reintroducing the lock brings back the deadlock issue. Both the ntpdate
+ if-up.d script and the ntp init script check the lock file, but the
+ ntpdate script attempted to start the ntp init script before unlocking
+ the lock. Moving the unlock before the init script invocation fixes
+ the deadlock. The original deadlock behavior is described here:
+ https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ntp/+bug/246203
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * Low. Out-of-sync clocks could be changed a large amount at boot time, but
+ only for machines with static IP's. The clock is only likely to be in this
+ state if the clock was very skewed at boot time, which is also unlikely
+ since NTP usually keeps the software clock in sync during operation and
+ the hardware clock is updated at shutdown.

[Bug 1318317] Re: openipmi startup script removes kernel modules

2015-12-07 Thread Jeremy Kerr
>From comment #3:

> This breaks any system daemon that requires in-band IPMI.

To provide a little more detail here: the opal-prd daemon, necessary for
runtime system management on OpenPOWER machines, may communicate with
the BMC using IPMI. As part of that daemon's initialisation, it ensures
that the IPMI device interface is loaded (ie, the ipmi_devintf module),
to ensure that the /dev/ipmiN interface is working.

However, after that daemon is started, the openipmi init script then
*unloads* the ipmi_devintf module.

The same would happen if the user has added ipmi_devintf to
/etc/modules, to get it loaded on boot.

At best, this unload means that the user will always need to issue a
'modprobe ipmi_devintf', on every reboot, before running any 'ipmitool'
command using the in-band BT interface.

Since this also disabled communication between the opal-prd daemon and
the BMC, it means that errors detected by opal-prd may not be reported
to the BMC.

[Bug 1388091] Re: winbindd does not provide geocs to libnss_winbind in ad configuration with winbind nss info = template (default)

2015-12-07 Thread Iain Lane
Hi msaxl - thanks for your patch.

This is a patch to samba's upstream code. We shouldn't be maintaining
such patches in Ubuntu (if nothing else, we don't have the expertise to
review it properly). Is there any chance you could send it upstream
please? Instructions appear to be here
.

I'm setting this bug to Incomplete - please reset to New once you have
done the above and ideally after you have had it reviewed there.

[Bug 1523456] Re: package smbclient 2:3.5.11~dfsg-1ubuntu2.3 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: short read on buffer copy for backend dpkg-deb during `./usr/bin/smbclient'

2015-12-07 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1522371] Re: iproute2: seg fault with 'ip link type gre ...' commands

After this patch, there is still another segfault:
$ ip -f inet6 tunnel add gre2 mode ip6gre local fd00:125::1:1 remote
fd00:125::1:2 dev eth1
$ ip link set gre2 type ip6gre hoplimit 32

Here is the fix:
