[Bug 1546418] [NEW] samba-ad-dc leaves a stale pidfile when not needed

2016-02-17 Thread Marius Gedminas
Public bug reported:

The upstart script /etc/init.d/samba-ad-dc.conf runs samba -D even when
the server role is "single server". This makes samba exit while leaving
a stale /var/run/samba/samba.pid file.

I've monitoring scripts that watch for stale pid files in
/var/run/*/*.pid, which triggers false alerts.

The older /etc/init.d/samba-ad-dc used to check the server role and skip
starting samba when the role wasn't "active directory domain
controller", thus no stale pidfiles were produced.

Hi Canonical Server Team, on another distro with a previous version of

Although 0.5.0 isn't that new, I don't know of another distro for s390x with
0.5.0 where I could check this.

[Bug 1384062] Re: os-prober kills ceph OSD

2016-02-17 Thread Dr. Jens Rosenboom
Forgot to mention that the Ceph cluster has to be under write load in
order to reproduce, i.e. running something like

rados -p rbd bench 600 write -t 1 --show-time --run-length 60

There is no effect of running os-prober if the cluster is idle. Based
with that information, though, I can also reproduce the issue by running
fio on some partition and os-prober in parallel, getting:

# fio --ioengine=libaio --filename=/dev/sdc4 --bs=64k --rw=randwrite
--runtime=300 --size=1G --direct=1 --iodepth=8 --name=a
a: (g=0): rw=randwrite, bs=64K-64K/64K-64K/64K-64K, ioengine=libaio, iodepth=8
fio-2.2.13
Starting 1 process
fio: io_u error on file /dev/sdc4: Operation not permitted: write
offset=531300352, buflen=65536
fio: pid=17543, err=1/file:io_u.c:1596, func=io_u error, error=Operation not
permitted

So I think the error has nothing to do with Ceph in particular, but
really os-prober should be made more conservative when trying to probe
partitions.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New.  Thanks and good luck!

2016-02-17 Thread Dr. Jens Rosenboom
Function ro_partition in /usr/share/os-prober/common.sh makes a
partition read-only. This is called in /usr/lib/os-probes/50mounted-
tests before trying to mount the partition being probed with all
possible fs-types. Obviously this will break all other processes trying
to write to this partition at that time.

** Summary changed:

- os-prober kills ceph OSD
+ os-prober blocks writes to raw partitions

** Changed in: ceph (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Invalid

[Bug 1546547] [NEW] DPDK shared library versioning

2016-02-17 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Public bug reported:

The upstream DPDK project does not keep sover's on their combined library.
There was some great work to properly version all the sublibraries going into

For now we have to live with the state as (deliver as sover 0) is and all its
implications like complex upgrades/updates.
Might be tricky on the first ABI/API bump, but so far we have only few
consumers at least.

We have participated on a discussion about in upstream dpdk but that is still
open.
And focus is currently elsewhere.
The last suggestion came from RH and was around a linker script that would
replace the combined library.
The linker script would then on link time include just the needed (and
versioned) sub libraries of DPDK.
We would have a lot of effort packaging that this way, but even if so we will
have to wait until upstream really settled on this.

This bug is more about tracking the issue openly.

[Bug 1546550] [NEW] openvswitch-switch-dpdk links against libdpdk statically

2016-02-17 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Public bug reported:

One might think it has no DPDK support when liiking at it as well as this is
kind of an exception of the usual library handling.
So for example openvswitch-switch-dpdk depends on libdpdk0 which seems right.
But in fact it would not have to as it is build with that library being
statically linked.

ldd /usr/lib/openvswitch-switch-dpdk/ovs-vswitchd-dpdk
linux-vdso.so.1 =>  (0x7ffe1eb74000)
libssl.so.1.0.0 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libssl.so.1.0.0
(0x7f9b0524c000)
libcrypto.so.1.0.0 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcrypto.so.1.0.0
(0x7f9b04e0a000)
libdl.so.2 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libdl.so.2 (0x7f9b04c05000)
libpthread.so.0 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0
(0x7f9b049e7000)
librt.so.1 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/librt.so.1 (0x7f9b047df000)
libm.so.6 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libm.so.6 (0x7f9b044d6000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (0x7f9b0410c000)
/lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x556b2d0db000)

Eventually that should be changed to allow a "normal" library handling

[Bug 1546556] [NEW] Dropping privileges in openvswitch-switch via --user is incompatible with --dpdk

2016-02-17 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Public bug reported:

Openvswitch has a nice security feature where one can drop privileges via
--user option.
Unfortunately due to the nature of DPDK it needs root permissions to initialize
most of its resources.
Thereby --dpdk and --user are mutually exclusive.

There are upstream discussions ongoing if it could first initialize DPDK and
then drop permissions.
But then it was identified that this would imply no adding/removing of dpdk
devices at runtime.
So the discussions go on for now.

Once an upstream solution is ready we can decide if we backport or wait
until we merge a newer version - therefore just wishlist for now.

[Bug 1546565] [NEW] Ownership/Permissions of vhost_user sockets for openvswitch-dpdk make them unusable by libvirt/qemu/kvm

2016-02-17 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Public bug reported:

As of today the vhost_user sockets created by openvswitch have root:root file
ownership.
In fact creation is actually done by code the DPDK lib, but the path is passed
to it from openvswitch.

The API called to DPDK has no notion of ownership/groups.
It just "inherits" what the current running process has.
But due to LP:1546556 the process ownership/group can't be changed the usual
way openvsiwtch would when using dpdk.

KVM as invoked by libvirt will run under libvirt-qemu:kvm and will
thereby be unable to access these sockets.

The current workaround is:
   1. wait after start of openvswitch (only then the sockets exist)
   2. chown all created vhost_iuser sockets that are to be used
  e.g. sudo chown libvirt-qemu /var/run/openvswitch/vhost-user-1
   3. if one wants to separate vhost_user sockets from the "rest" of
openvswitch /var/run files use e.g.:
  DPDK_OPTS='[...] -vhost_sock_dir /var/run/openvswitch-vhost [...]
   X. this has to be redone every start/restart of oepnvswitch
   Y. if permissions are changed in a way that openvswitch can no more remove
them on shutdown they won't re-initialize properly on the next start

That is a severe shortcoming and not really applicable to a supported
production environment.
There are discussions ongoing about providing an option to specify
owner/group/permissions of vhost_user sockets which would solve the issue.
Unfortunately the patch series is blocked by a wider discussion about moving
the dpdk configuration to the ovsdb (which makes sense, but stalls the
acceptance of the patches providing the interface to modify permissions.

Link to the last thread about moving dpdk config to ovsdb:
http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.network.openvswitch.devel/59186
Link to the last thread about making vhost_user socket user/group configurable
- patch 4&5 of this:
http://openvswitch.org/pipermail/dev/2015-December/063568.html
But as mentioned it was decided to get the db config discussion done first.

It is unsure if the patches once final will make it into openvswitch 2.5 - it
would be great if they would.
But even if not they shouldn't appear too much after and we might be able to
cherry pick them?

clamav (0.99+dfsg-1ubuntu1) xenial; urgency=medium

  Merge from Debian. Remaining changes (LP: #1540491) :
* Explicitly build using llvm-3.6.
* Ignore test results on armhf.
* debian/rules: Restore --with-llvm-linking=dynamic to avoid underlinkage
  causing FTBS
* d/p/llvm-don-t-use-system-libs.patch:
  Do not use system libraries for linking : We are not linking the .a
  files so we don't care about the libs llvm links against (like -ledit)
  Dropping this patch will cause FTBS on Ubuntu with unresolvable -ledit
  Dropped changes :
* debian/control : libsystemd-dev no longer renamed since it has been
  changed upstream.
* d/p/0005-libclamav-use-libmspack.patch : Now part of upstream release.
* d/p/0007-fix-ssize_t-size_t-off_t-printf-modifier.patch : Now part of
  upstream release to the exception of the sigtool/sigtool.c cast
  identified previously.
  d/p/0008-hardcode-LLVM-linker-flag-because-llvm-config-return.patch :
  Now part of upstream release.
  d/p/0012-remove-AC_CONFIG_SRCDIR-llvm-configure-from-libclama.patch
* d/clamav-daemon.postinst.in: Fix typo which causes a crash while
  installing this package over any previous version (upgrading). Fixed
  upstream.
* Explicitly build using llvm-3.5. Now build using llvm-3.6.

clamav (0.99+dfsg-1) unstable; urgency=medium

 - hardcode-LLVM-linker-flag.patch
  * Disable Large File Support because it is incompatible with fts.h, which
is required by the new upstream release.
  * Drop patches needing LFS:
 - libclamav-use-libmspack.patch
 - fix-ssize_t-size_t-off_t-printf-modifier.patch
  * Disable valgrind in the test suite again. It is too flaky.

[Bug 1346776] Re: SSL certificate creation crashes without subjectAltName

2016-02-17 Thread David White
I came across this with managing openvpn keys on ubuntu 15.10.

The pkitool in my CA folder was from an older version of ubuntu
(probably 14.04) so tried updating it to the latest that came with
15.10. It didn't help but Yuriy's fix worked for me.

I've added that it affects openvpn.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test.  Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1546637] [NEW] Sync jakarta-taglibs-standard 1.1.2-4 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2016-02-17 Thread Nish Aravamudan
Public bug reported:

Please sync jakarta-taglibs-standard 1.1.2-4 (main) from Debian unstable
(main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * Merge from Debian unstable. (LP: #1433365) Remaining changes:
- debian/ant.properties, debian/control, debian/rules:
  + Transition from servlet 2.5 -> 3.0. (Closes: #780701)
Debian has transitioned to servlet 3.1 in 1.1.2-4, which means we can
drop this delta.

Additionally, with LP #1539903, servlet 3.1 will also be in main, and
there will be no component-mismatch.

Changelog entries since current xenial version 1.1.2-3ubuntu1:

jakarta-taglibs-standard (1.1.2-4) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Team upload.
  * Removed the Servlet, JSP and EL API jars from the classpath specified
in the manifest (Closes: #806905)
  * Transition to the Servlet API 3.1 (Closes: #780701, #801012)
  * debian/control:
- Removed the deprecated DM-Upload-Allowed field
- Standards-Version updated to 3.9.6 (no changes)
- Use canonical URLs for the Vcs-* fields
  * Switch to debhelper level 9
  * debian/rules: Improved the clean target

2016-02-17 Thread Jamie Strandboge
I see that ntp is now using AF_UNSPEC in a number of places. I tried the
following rules:
  # ntp uses AF_INET, AF_INET6 and AF_UNSPEC
  network dgram,
  network stream,

which should fix it, but still get denials. I then tried all of the following:
  network udp,
  network tcp,
  network dgram,
  network stream,
  network inet,
  network inet6,
  network,

and the kernel is still denying.

@Nish Since Nginx it also in main it would be nice to do an "Depends:

Debian and how many packages are affected. What do you think?

virt-aa-helper's AA profile hasn't changed recently so it seems like the helper
is doing more in this release.

2016-02-17 Thread Steve Beattie
AF_UNSPEC is used in calls to getaddrinfo(3) to request either ipv4 or
ipv6 addresses. In the parser, we've been filtering out AF_UNSPEC as an
option. It's a simple enough patch to enable it:

Index: b/common/Make.rules
===
--- a/common/Make.rules
+++ b/common/Make.rules
@@ -98,7 +98,7 @@ list_capabilities: /usr/include/linux/ca
 # to mediate. We use PF_ here since that is what is required in
 # bits/socket.h, but we will rewrite these as AF_.

-FILTER_FAMILIES=PF_UNSPEC PF_UNIX
+FILTER_FAMILIES=PF_UNIX

 __FILTER=$(shell echo $(strip $(FILTER_FAMILIES)) | sed -e 's/ /\\\|/g')

However, there's some concern that because the value of AF_UNSPEC is 0, there
might be some special handling of that case, or other unexpected issues.

That said, I'm able to reproduce the issue, and adding a rule 'network
unspec dgram,' eliminated the rejections that ntpd was creating (whereas
adding a rule 'network unspec raw,' as expected, did not).

[Bug 1546776] [NEW] [FFe] charm-tools 2.0

2016-02-17 Thread Marco Ceppi
Public bug reported:

With the release of Juju 2.0 a new charm-tools is planned to be released
with this. charm-tools 2.0 is a huge jump in features from the 1.0.0 in
the archive. It also becomes a suite of plugins to the new charm command
being developed in Juju 2.0 - In general it brings about bug fixes and a
new set of commands:

 * Ability to build charm using layers
 * Enhanced charm proof
 * Support for creating Windows charms
 * Removal of antiquated and broken commands

Because charm-tools relies on the new `charm` command being added, which
is dependent on Juju 2.0 (which has a FFe) this needs to be held until
the new Juju 2.0 and Charm command is released.

[Bug 1473903] Re: parted will generate two devices when adding one partition on mpath device

2016-02-17 Thread Phillip Susi
I'm not sure we are understanding each other correctly. I am not sure
what the change you made to multipath-tools has to do with this bug, but
the change you made to parted which is still sitting in the -proposed
pocket is incorrect and needs to be rejected. Instead of changing
parted, it is multipath-tools that needs changed to not use the -part
naming scheme. Changing parted to use -part will also break dmraid.

[Bug 1535951] Re: Please merge strongswan 5.3.5-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2016-02-17 Thread Ryan Harper
I've pushed the latest revisions into the PPA:

strongswan (5.3.5-1ubuntu7) xenial; urgency=medium

  * debian/{rules,control,libstrongswan-extra-plugins.install}
Enable bliss plugin
  * debian/patches/increase-bliss-test-timeout.patch
Under QEMU/KVM for autopkgtest bliss test takes a bit longer
  * debian/patches/dont-load-kernel-libipsec-plugin-by-default.patch
Upstream suggests to not load this plugin by default as it has
some limitations.

[Bug 1271653] Re: [MIR] libiscsi

2016-02-17 Thread Seth Arnold
I reviewed libiscsi version 1.12.0-2 as checked into xenial. This
shouldn't be considered a full security audit but rather a quick gauge of
maintainability.

- libiscsi provides user-space iscsi initiator support so applications can
  use iscsi targets without needing privileged access to the host.
- Build-Depends: debhelper, dh-autoreconf, libcunit1-dev
- Only does CHAP, MD5 cryptography
- Extensive networking support
- Does not itself daemonize
- Does not itself listen on the network
- No pre/post inst/rm
- No initscripts
- No dbus services
- No setuid executables
- iscsi-test-cu, iscsi-ls, iscsi-swp, iscsi-inq, iscsi-readcapacity16
  executables in path
- No sudo fragments
- No udev rules
- iscsi-test-cu looks like an incredible test suite, if it functions as
  advertised
- No cron jobs
- Clean build logs

- No subprocesses spawned
- Very careful memory management, nice per-scsi-task abstraction layer
- No file IO
- Extensive error logging, spot checks all looked careful
- Several environment variables are used:
  LD_ISCSI_GET_LBA_STATUS
  LD_ISCSI_DEBUG (not-packaged ld_iscsi.so)
  LIBISCSI_DEBUG
  LIBISCSI_TCP_USER_TIMEOUT
  LIBISCSI_TCP_KEEPCNT
  LIBISCSI_TCP_KEEPINTVL
  LIBISCSI_TCP_KEEPIDLE
  LIBISCSI_TCP_SYNCNT
  LIBISCSI_BIND_INTERFACES
  LIBISCSI_CHAP_USERNAME
  LIBISCSI_CHAP_PASSWORD
  Results were typically handed to atoi(3) and then used to set settings;
  maybe strtoul(3) would be more robust but this is fine
- No privileged operations
- Essentially no cryptography -- CHAP barely counts. Use this on trusted
  networks or over IPsec. (Trusted networks is the expected use, this
  isn't unreasonable.)
- Extensive networking; spot checks on networking syscalls all looked
  careful
- No portions of code looked more privileged than others
- No temporary file handling
- Does not use WebKit
- Clean cppcheck
- Clean shellcheck
- No PolicyKit

libiscsi looks professionally programmed; SCSI and TCP/IP aren't exactly
easy things but the design of this package looks careful and thoughtful. I
haven't inspected the SCSI state machine in any way but the methods I
inspected all looked like they inspected preconditions and logged
violations, all pieces feel like logical separations of concerns and
designed for testing.

The iscsi-test-cu test suite looks incredible if true. No tests are run
during the build but it would be difficult to test these functions deeply
during build.

The only bug I found is a series of slightly misleading error messages:

- lib/login.c has instances of 'aprintf failed' error strings but the
  memory allocation is stack-based buffers, and the failed function is
  snprintf().

ld_iscsi looks like a _very_ cute hack -- pity it is too immature to
enable it but I love the idea. (I did not review its code because it's
clearly labeled not-yet-ready for use.)

Security team ACK for promoting libiscsi to main. Please keep an eye on
ld_iscsi in future syncs with Debian to ensure it doesn't get released
before it is ready.

Thanks
