[Bug 1547700] [NEW] [MIR] xmlrpc-epi
Public bug reported: [Availability] Available in universe in all currently supported releases. [Rationale] src:php7.0 is currently patched to not build php-xmlrpc due to component-mismatch. Previously, php5-xmlrpc was in main and built from src:php5. The PHP 5 version of the xmlrpc extension did not have a build dependency on xmlrpc-epi, but Debian's PHP 7.0 has added it. End-users will expect to find, generally, the same extensions available in Xenial as on Trusty (accounting for the version change) in the same components. [Security] php7.0 has been promoted to main, and php7.0-xmlrpc re-enablement would result in that package also being in main. php-xmlrpc is included with and supported as part of the core PHP release in all currently supported versions. It therefore has security support from the core PHP team. It also has security support from upstream Debian. xmlrpc-epi itself shows no results from CVEs or NVD. There is one mention of a php-xmlrpc CVE that may be relevant: http://cve.mitre.org /cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2014-8626, but it only affects older version of PHP. The xmlrpc-epi package does not install any executables or services. [Quality assurance] There is nothing to start upon installation of xmlrpc-epi. The binary packages produced provide shared libraries. There are no debconf questions asked during installation. Upstream xlmrpc-epi bugs: https://sourceforge.net/p/xmlrpc-epi/bugs - None seem significant. Debian bugs: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?pkg=xmlrpc-epi - The only bug affects mips only. Ubuntu bugs: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xmlrpc-epi/+bugs - No bugs found. In Debian, there are a few lintian errors, but it is otherwise clean (https://packages.qa.debian.org/x/xmlrpc-epi.html). This xmlrpc-epi package does not deal with hardware. The xmlrpc-epi package does not ship a test suite. The xmlrpc-epi package has a debian/watch file, although PTS indicates it might be invalid currently. [Dependencies] All build and binary dependencies are satisfiable in main. [Standards compliance] The current package meets Debian Policy 3.9.2 (current is 3.9.6). [Maintenance] The php7.0 source package is already maintained by Ubuntu Developers, who are responsible for providing security updates for several other binary packages from php7.0 source. Bugs and security issues that affect php-xmlrpc will typically affect core as well and require updates. Security issues which affect xmlrpc-epi are rare so the extra workload required should hopefully be minimal. [Background information] To be clear, php5-xmlrpc was in main before we demoted php5 to universe (with the intention of removing it from the archive). It makes sense to keep php7.0-xmlrpc in main, correspondingly, and this is the only build dependency needed to do so. ** Affects: php7.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: xmlrpc-epi (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: php7.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to php7.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1547700 Title: [MIR] xmlrpc-epi To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php7.0/+bug/1547700/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Neal, https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php5/+bugs?field.searchtext=fpm The FPM mode of execution feels far better to me than running a PHP interpreter in the same address space as the webserver -- however I have to balance my enthusiasm for the better design against the fact that there are a huge pile of bugs currently open that mention 'fpm', a complete unfamiliarity with the codebase, and Robie expressed that they're stretched too thin as it is. [Bug 1346815] Re: lxc-clone causes duplicate MAC address and IP address
Not much we can do about the IP address though. For the MAC it's unlikely that anything in the container is tied to it so we can just generate a fresh one without requiring any knowledge about the workload or the environment. An IP address is much more problematic because maybe you did mean to keep the address (won't run both containers at once) or you're going to move the clone to another host or another bridge and even if we could know that, there's no way for LXC to know what IP it should be using and removing the IP entry would likely break the container. So unfortunately for IP configuration, it's really up to the user to know about it (they're the ones who put it there, LXC itself never writes one) and update as needed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to lxc in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1346815 Title: lxc-clone causes duplicate MAC address and IP address To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxc/+bug/1346815/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1547642] [NEW] Xenial default configuration refers to PHP5, not PHP7; uses incorrect default php-fpm socket path as well
Public bug reported: Given that we now are having php7.0 in Xenial, the default configuration for NGINX needs updated to match. While not enabled by default, the default configurations have 'preset' items to make it easier to just 'enable' PHP support; this includes pointing to the socket file path for php5-fpm. Given we don't have php5-fpm anymore, we need to update this to match php7.0-fpm's defaults instead. This does NOT add any new functionality, nor does it change any default configuration of feature-enablement; it is to address cases where users use the default configuration examples instead of setting site configurations up themselves, so that we don't have any bugs filed for 'PHP FPM settings in defaults are not valid!' issues. ** Affects: nginx (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium Assignee: Thomas Ward (teward) Status: In Progress ** Tags: xenial -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to nginx in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1547642 Title: Xenial default configuration refers to PHP5, not PHP7; uses incorrect default php-fpm socket path as well To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nginx/+bug/1547642/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1547640] [NEW] proxy tries ipv6 and gets 503 when no ipv6 routes
Public bug reported: Many people run squid (squid-deb-proxy, or maas-proxy) to provide ubuntu archive mirror caching and proxying. MAAS sets this up by default for users with the 'maas-proxy' package. On or about Friday February 19, this setup began to fail for many people. Users would see 'apt-get update' returning 503 errors. For me, I saw 503 on security.ubuntu.com addresses. The reason for the failure was that the squid proxy began using ipv6 addresses for instead of ipv4. The squid proxy host did not have ipv6 connectivity and thus would fail. The fix/workaround is to add the following to your squid config: # http://www.squid-cache.org/Doc/config/dns_v4_first/ dns_v4_first on The appropriate squid config file depends on what is running squid. maas-proxy: /usr/share/maas/maas-proxy.conf squid-deb-proxy: /etc/init/squid-deb-proxy.conf I'm not sure how this previously worked, nor what change was made. One change that was made in this time frame was a glibc update (2.19-0ubuntu6.6 to 2.19-0ubuntu6.7) for security (CVE-2013-7423 CVE-2014-9402 CVE-2015-1472 CVE-2015-1473). @Neal, Any chance you have the time to sweep through the fpm bugs? I don't know how many of those are relevant, but if everything reported can be resolved (as no longer applicable, or fixed), then I'd be happy to put "FPM in main" forward. Note that I'm not a decision maker here though; there are other considerations too. [Bug 1267255] Re: [MIR] php5 (php5-fpm binary)
Of course, I realize it means that for httpd, it would need to have mod_proxy_fcgi enabled by default for the php-fpm configuration I contributed to be useful in an out-of-the-box scenario. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to php5 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1267255 Title: [MIR] php5 (php5-fpm binary) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php5/+bug/1267255/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1267255] Re: [MIR] php5 (php5-fpm binary)
So, I'd like to chime in here a bit. As Ondřej mentioned earlier, php-fpm is known to be a more secure alternative to mod_php, and is recommended for secure setups. I recently contributed a decent default configuration for php-fpm for PHP 7.0, and I would support flipping libapache2-mod-php7.0 to universe and keep php7.0-fpm in main. Critically, php-fpm can be used with any web server that supports FastCGI, whereas mod_php is Apache httpd specific. There is, of course, php-cgi, but it isn't recommended either, and I would suggest that it should be in universe as well. I don't pretend to know the difficulty of maintaining the PHP stack, but I think that perhaps moving these two particular methods of using PHP from main to universe in exchange for php-fpm should be considered.

[Bug 1529079] Re: Can't start virtual machines with installed systemd-container package on Xenial
The error message is pretty clear. src/util/virsystemd.c does if (virDBusCallMethod(conn, NULL, , "org.freedesktop.machine1", "/org/freedesktop/machine1", "org.freedesktop.machine1.Manager", "CreateMachineWithNetwork", [...] "After", "as", 1, "libvirtd.service", "Before", "as", 1, "libvirt-guests.service") < 0) { and these properties are unknown/invalid for machines. This indeed sounds like the most practical option. It also allows you to skip only parts of your tests which depend on SSE3. You might have others which don't. > But later infinity pointed out if we shouldn't bump our scalingstack > machine configs as all underlying HW would support that. In our > case that would be the flavour autopkgtest. I'm not sure if such options can be specified in Openstack Nova flavors, but I'm in no way an expert there. I suggest that you open an RT and ask IS about that? Even if we get that, I still suggest to test /proc/mounts and skip the test -- after all, people want to run these tests in other envs than the Canonical data center. > In later discussions there were arguments that for specific software > should have some kind of exception process where e.g. some part of the > d/t/control should be able to specify those needs as Restriction/Class > /or-else. Class: would be possible, but this is a very specific requirement, and dpdk would probably remain the only user of it. So let's not over-design this :-) Also, we don't yet actually implement test classes. But first and foremost, we don't have testbeds that support SSE3, so the above Nova config discussion will have to be done either way. > I don't want to suggest how this would be implemented best: > - bump flavours > - implement new type of restriction in d/t/control Not going to happen, sorry. > - implement even qemu-opt in d/t/control You can already specify options to adt-virt-qemu, so this is already available. This bug is whatever we (collectively, including you) want it to be. [Bug 1547528] [NEW] How to handle specific HW needs for dep8 tests in CI
Public bug reported: It all started out as a typical case of "something happened". Looking at the CI history of openvswitch-dpdk at http://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/o/openvswitch-dpdk/xenial/amd64/. We weren't sure if the test machines or any other part of the execution changed. But due to that we found that in our case sse3 can't be guaranteed in the test environment - so we agreed on ubuntu-devel that we should detect and skip the test then to avoid false positives. Overall in the discusion pitti pointed out there is no current way to specify in d/t/control any kind of Restriction or Class that would allow us to get sse3 (or any similar explicit HW feature) guaranteed in an adt-run environment. He also pointed out that that was too specific for the test to make a general change. And that is right as we want some kind of general baseline that all things work on. But later infinity pointed out if we shouldn't bump our scalingstack machine configs as all underlying HW would support that. In our case that would be the flavour autopkgtest. While that is right and would fix "our" issue it would also lift the "general baseline" that we have and I can't decide if that is right. In later discussions there were arguments that for specific software should have some kind of exception process where e.g. some part of the d/t/control should be able to specify those needs as Restriction/Class /or-else. I don't want to suggest how this would be implemented best: - bump flavours - implement new type of restriction in d/t/control - implement even qemu-opt in d/t/control - ... but we agreed to at least open the bug for an open discussion around it. [Bug 1522422] Re: Update to php 7.0
@vinc-q @jegr An upstream unmaintained code would be total no-go, but still having two versions of PHP in the main is a quite big burden for Ubuntu folks. I could afford to run PPAs with multiple PHP versions, because I have the liberty of saying: "upstream bug, bummer" and do nothing about it if I don't have time or motivation to fix it. @jegr The folks who already have PHP code compatible with PHP 5.6 shouldn't have any problems updating to PHP 7.0. I would worry more about the upgrade from PHP 5.3 in precise to PHP 5.5 in trusty. [Bug 1522422] Re: Update to php 7.0
@jstsch I'm not trying to start a specific discussion about customers or software but merely was pointing out that service providers or hosters would actually profit from both package branches staying available instead dropping one of them after freeze. And as both EOL dates are nearly the same it isn't like one of them is a support nightmare and unsupported upstream in near future. Of course customers on trusty can stay on that. But we'll alert precise customers shortly about options for upgrades. And if xenial stays on php7 those are most likely to become trusty boxes as well, what I personally find a rather unsatisfactory solution but perhaps is inevitable. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to php5 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1522422 Title: Update to php 7.0 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php5/+bug/1522422/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1522422] Re: Update to php 7.0
@ondrej I agree to some degree, as it would be reasonable to run xenial under the hood, not only because of the base OS but the rest of the web stack, too. And as already stated, as PHP5.6/7 are supported from PHP to almost the same EOL time now, so it's not about "please support old unmaintained software for us" ;) As Trusty includes PHP 5.5, that would be more of a problem as to have 5.6 & 7 as options on a new platform with support until 2021. Installing trusty mid- to end-2016 feels the same as the precise/trusty thingy we had to endure the last 4 years. That's why I'm just throwing that idea into the room. But we are not talking any OSS projects, but (sometimes) closed source software like various shops or modules etc. And those companies won't simply change just because we want them too. And our customers (as hosting company) have invested quite a hefty sum into their shops, so they, too, won't just switch to another software including external connections, payment etc. etc. just because PHP made a new release. It's extremely frustrating on our side as I see the same thing as the trusty release will be hitting us again. [Bug 1522422] Re: Update to php 7.0
Maybe it's too late to throw my hat (and opinion) in, but from a hosting/hoster perspective, that's really a double-edged sword. Of course it would be splendid, if we could migrate all customers and applications to PHP7 as soon as possible. But with PHP itself increasing the support level of PHP5.6 to almost the same EOL date that PHP7 has, wouldn't it be possible to let BOTH stay in the repositories? As both now have a distinctive namespace (php5/php7) it would be incredibly helpful for us server or hosting providers, to get our customers to migrate to the new base OS (xenial) while having the possibility to select PHP5.6 or PHP7 as their web stack. With xenial only having PHP7 packages, most of our clientel will supposedly need to stay on trusty or - even worse - has to upgrade to trusty from precise, because (as sad as that is) there are a great many procucts out there, that don't have PHP7 compatibility right now (and don't plan to in the near future). Even worse when throwing in products like ZendGuard (*shiver*) into the mix, that don't support PHP7 yet (ergo all encrypted stuff from them won't work on PHP7/xenial for some time to come). So having both php version lines would actually be a huge blessing for hosting/server customers and easier upgrade paths.

[Bug 1528735] Re: Suspend reboots every second time on Lenovo G50-45
Just updated to 4.2.0-27-generic #32~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP, and this is still an issue. This may not actually be directly related to pm-suspend, but I put it here for lack of a better proximate cause. This may need to be transferred to be a kernel bug. I suspect it may be related to a reaction to http://www.intelsecurity.com/advanced-threat- research/content/WP_Intel_ATR_S3_ResBS_Vuln.pdf It can be reproduced by putting Ubuntu of just about any recent version onto a Lenovo G50-45, and suspending it twice. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to pm-utils in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1528735 Title: Suspend reboots every second time on Lenovo G50-45 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pm-utils/+bug/1528735/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
