[Bug 1336847] Re: apache2 SSL mpm-worker mod_fcgid Resource deadlock avoided
Hi Markus, sorry to get to this so late. I couldn't reproduce that today. But then "a while even under non heavy server" is kind of unspecific. Also there were plenty of updates to the packages If this really still applies to your environment please share more detail on what you do to reproduce this. Until then I'd mark the bug incomplete to help the overview of open bugs. Please if you want and can provide the data and that issue still affects you feel free to set it back to new. ** Changed in: apache2 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to apache2 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1336847 Title: apache2 SSL mpm-worker mod_fcgid Resource deadlock avoided To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apache2/+bug/1336847/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1443224] Re: localized-error-pages.conf lacks config to preprocess /error/include page content
Hi, I was trying to reproduce your issue: mkdir -p /var/www/localized-error-pages/ cp /usr/share/apache2/error/include/* /var/www/localized-error-pages/ *made a slight change to the bottom.html in there so I recognize the localized error. Uncommenting and adapting in /etc/apache2/conf-available/localized-error-pages.conf: Alias /error/include/ "/var/www/localized-error-pages/" + uncommenting the later 37 lines I access non existing files and see in /var/log/apache2/access.log that the access works. When accessing a non existent file it didn't cause the same error, but then it didn't show me a localized error either. So it seems I failed to reproduce your issue because I can't figure out a missing step :-/ But I experimented a bit and actually So the default config in /etc/apache2/apache2.conf has: Options Indexes FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None Require all granted And this should already cover /var/www/localized-error-pages/ to be accessible by the server. Of course not by the browser directly as the document root goes to /var/www/html but I think it should be includable. [Bug 1463635] Re: Apache2 waits indefinetely when reloading
Hi, you are right that default configurations should be sane. I totally like your report on the potential DOS, by keeping a connection open and so stalling the restart forever. So I don't just want you or me to close it. But then the GracefulShutdownTimeout being zero is the apache default - not one set by Ubuntu. I see two issues in "just" changing that: - while discussion worthy, some other users might expect it to behave as it did up to now - Upstream must have a reason to keep the default at zero (I hope) I'd suggest to bring the matter to discussion upstream with Apache. There the experts can much better quantify the reality of an attack due to this or any other implications. E.g. the answer to why exactly the connections remain open and what could/should be done. Once there is agreement and a patch that changes the upstream default new versions will pick it up and it could be back-ported to old versions as needed. ** Changed in: apache2 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Triaged ** Changed in: apache2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: apache2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Low => Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1463635 Title: Apache2 waits indefinetely when reloading To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apache2/+bug/1463635/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1552822] Re: apache2 fails to wait on stop/restart
Hi David, I tried reproducing this while triaging to confirm and set bug status. In a trivial loop like: for i in {1..100}; do echo $i; service apache2 restart; done; It almost always blocks it by Mar 31 11:09:34 xenial-tests systemd[1]: apache2.service: Start request repeated too quickly. Mar 31 11:09:34 xenial-tests systemd[1]: Failed to start LSB: Apache2 web server. I also installed wsgi and some other mods to slow down start/stop, but that didn't help either. (apt-get install libapache2-mod-wsgi libapache2-mod-nss libapache2-mod-scgi libapache2-mod-webauth libapache2-modsecurity) Installing these slows it down, so that systemd no more complains about it restarting too quickly, but it doesn't trigger the issue. [Bug 216847] Re: sshd will not start at boot if ListenAddress is set, because network interface is not yet up
Since so many things changed since this - admittedly embarrassing old - bug was reported I thought I retest it before the next LTS comes out. I looked at the Xenial content and found stuff like: Not only is it specified "After network.target", but on top there is /etc/network/if-up.d/openssh-server which is intended to restart openssh if later an iface comes up, there it would be able to rebind that IP. I tested on containers first and it worked right away, setting ListenAddress and restarting. But well in containers devices might be "up" at a different timing, but even in a KVM Guest, setting ListenAddress again it works just fine. Mar 24 14:54:43 testxenial-ssh sshd[1293]: Server listening on 192.168.122.131 port 22. I wondered and wanted to make sure that the test is valid, so I spawned trusty (LTS), vivid (last reported issue) and wily But - for me - it was working on all of them - even with several retries it was not even racy. Therefore I wanted to ask for a retest - at least with Xenial if possible. Also any detail about the test environment that was used would be great - especially by the last confirmation in vivid. Does it have to be a special network card that might initialize slowly or anything like it? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/216847 Title: sshd will not start at boot if ListenAddress is set, because network interface is not yet up To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssh/+bug/216847/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1512603] Re: nut-monitor systemd service is absent in nut-client package since Ubuntu vivid
Hi, in Xenial 2.7.2-4ubuntu1 got merged. The issue that our delta solved by dropping of the systemd service, seems solved in Debian >=2.7.2 The Debian Changelog part in 2.7.2-2 is: * Add wrappers that check the MODE in /etc/nut/nut.conf to avoid starting the daemons if nut is not configured (Closes: #747863). Yet the merge kept our related delta: - Disable systemd unit; it does not check nut.conf whether nut is configured, and thus fails to start (and the package install). The init.d script works well enough for the time being. Andrew (computershik-ya) wrote on 2015-11-05: [...] The init.d script was a broken symlink to nut-client [...] At least that seems solved as it installs correctly a init.d script that systemd uses as fallback. file /etc/init.d/nut-client /etc/init.d/nut-client: POSIX shell script, ASCII text executable lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Jan 27 09:36 /etc/init.d/ups-monitor -> nut-client* Debian has both systemd services again, but it might be too late before release to do that change in case it is working as-is again. See: https://packages.debian.org/sid/amd64/nut-client/filelist I had issues getting a proper Test done in my Xenial container. But given the package merge and the proper link that is existing now I'd highly encourage the reporters who likely have a working UPS setup to test this with Xenial. If you could share some of your setup to test it and the issues that appear that will also help to consider and work on dropping&testing the delta regarding the systemd services. Especially since it is late in the cycle. [Impact] * The bug is a segfault on yppasswd rendering users unable to change their passwords * justification for the SRU is the continued request by users and the fact that it is a very minimal change * the fix ensures that a lib accessing data unconditionally only gets called if the values are properly initialized [Test Case] * install nis * Config in /etc/default/nis:NISSERVER=master * Config in /etc/yp.conf: ypserver 127.0.0.1 * Initialize with $ sudo /usr/lib/yp/ypinit -m $ restart rpcbind * Test if your config works $ ypcat passwd should show something like ubuntu:x:1000:1000:Ubuntu:/home/ubuntu:/bin/bash * Trigger the bug $ yppasswd -p ubuntu Changing NIS account information for ubuntu on wily.localdomain. Please enter root password: Changing NIS password for ubuntu on wily.localdomain. Ok, I did the backport. This package is somewhat scary old at some places (no patches, dh compatibility level 1 - well undefined). Yet I was able to keep changes minimal and the changes that went into the Debian upgrade from .33 to .34 applied as is. It is building fine in trusty. [Bug 1559408] Re: Many PMD driver options are disabled, including "BNX2X"!
I checked the other default disabled drivers. To all some kind of incompleteness, non-support or being only stubs applies. It could be said, that the same is true for the virtual ones we enable like PCAP and XEN. But there is a major difference in: - nobody is "buying" the HW for pcap or XEN to then realize it is not supported - those virtual environments are good for experiments and proof of concepts but not suitable for most production cases anyway So (keep) enabling those virtual ones is kind of ok, while I'd consider enabling the PMDs for more of the HW cards is not. To get those enabled in my opinion one has to work with the upstream project to get it properly supported and default enabled. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dpdk in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1559408 Title: Many PMD driver options are disabled, including "BNX2X"! [Bug 1559408] Re: Many PMD driver options are disabled, including "BNX2X"!
Hi Thiago, you were busy weren't you :-) Thanks your further experiments and reports - I'll try to refer all the open points. Trying to summarize: 1. The vfio grouping issue is not a bug, just the vfio setup being more complex in general. But you already handled that for your setup - great. But as you found - eventually a working vfio and a uio_pci_generic gets you to the same - the PMD driver (trying to) work on the card. 2. Firmware issue - that is very specific to the BNX2X_PMD PMD and Cards you use. I'd consider adding something to the Readme if we end up enabling that driver, but not really considering pushing oco FW packages with dpdk. Yet that should help the next getting to it. 3. Enabling this or other PMDs. You already did for for your experiments which is great, but so far we only enabled those that were enabled by default and only a few that different parties have asked for. There are some reasons not "just" to enable all others. - One is testability - I don't have all the HW and also time is short while still more issue being open against dpdk. - the other one is that a lessons learned is that everything that is not actively used/tested is broken or at least can not be considered very stable. As dpdk by history came from a "build the solution with the dpdk source" approach where he specific solution setup can apply a multitude of tweaks/fixes without caring about "others" too much that is not a good option for a generically provided package. On the good side though, until the specific cards PMD driver is used the code is not really active. Unfortunately I don't see a good option of saying something like "and these 5 more PMD are experimental" - I need to discuss that with more experienced packagers. Maybe an extra package that brings "more" pmd drivers named dpdk-experimental, but that would due to its dependencies still have to be in main which I don't like. Also this is not working well with the combined library approach being used and linker script based solution is post dpdk 2.2 4. segfault/mem alloc issue That is an interesting one which I was working on last week as well. In fact this is not specific to your PMD driver - I was hitting that with virtio-pci based setup which should be "more" supported (default enabled by upstream dpdk). It is an issue that as far as I can tell only occurs in combination with OVS-DPDK (testpmd and such are running fine). I was just about filing a bug to track that effort - please see 1559912 Final summary: - I'll discuss if it is doable/reasonable to enable so more low-tested extra drivers with some co-devs here for this bug. - We will track the issues regarding ovs-dpdk+dpdk+some-PMDs in bug 1559912 ** Changed in: dpdk (Ubuntu) Status: New => Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dpdk in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1559408 Title: Many PMD driver options are disabled, including "BNX2X"! [Bug 1558485] [NEW] init script can fail when devices are unassigned
Public bug reported: While usually not the case when the init script runs devices could be unassigned when e.g. a service dpdk restart happens. It needs to be debugged in what way it expects a non-default size hugepage mount and then provided by dpdk init scripts OR fixed in dpdk code. ** Affects: dpdk (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium Assignee: ChristianEhrhardt (paelzer) Status: Triaged ** Changed in: dpdk (Ubuntu) Status: New => Triaged ** Changed in: dpdk (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: dpdk (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => ChristianEhrhardt (paelzer) ** Changed in: dpdk (Ubuntu) Milestone: None => ubuntu-16.04 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dpdk in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1557532 Title: dpdk fails to use 1G huge pages depending on the available mountpoints To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpdk/+bug/1557532/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1554214] Re: Usege of vfio-pci module via /etc/dpdk/interfaces doesn't work
Hi - here a minor update Regarding: NOTE: To make it work manually, the module "vfio-pci" must be declared at "/etc/modules" as well. Yes it is required to load the module before dpdk_nic_bind, if running manually you have to do it some way on your own e.g. /etc/modules. If using the init scripts they will take care of it before calling dpdk_nic_bind. Also regarding vfio in general there is a lot of things that can go wrong regarding the actual iommu setup. [Bug 1554397] [NEW] dpdk-init fails due to missing modules in virt environments
Public bug reported: In e.g. cloud images there is only the minimal "linux-image" which does not pull in "linux-image-extra". Now DPDK doesn't need linux-image-extra in such environments for there is a virtio pmd driver. But if people want to experiment with e.g. uio_pci_generic drivers in there the init scripts will crash due to the missing kernel module. I suggest two fixes: 1. make linux-image-extra-virtual a suggests of dpdk (recommends or depends would be too hard given the relation) 2. further harden the init script to gracefully detect and warn about it instead of failing 3. add a comment about the need into /etc/dpdk/interfaces so people can read it while configuring instead when failing ** Affects: dpdk (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium Assignee: ChristianEhrhardt (paelzer) Status: Triaged ** Changed in: dpdk (Ubuntu) Status: New => Triaged ** Changed in: dpdk (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: dpdk (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => ChristianEhrhardt (paelzer) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dpdk in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1554397 Title: dpdk-init fails due to missing modules in virt environments To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpdk/+bug/1554397/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1423649] Re: DPDK port on Ubuntu
Hi, Thanks Arthur for making me aware of this bug. It wasn' filed against DPDK so I missed it on my screening. FYI we have DPDK 2.2 in Xenial since February 19th. FYI: The project upstream is fast moving and IMHO sometimes a bit brittle. So as we are ramping up testing we are currently flushing out as much issues as possible to make it more stable and consumable. Therefore there are new revisions every now and then, but it is available and if you use it and run into issues let me know. I might be able to help and if not we will file it as a bug and track/handle/prioritize it together with the others. As usual look at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpdk for known open issues. I'll add dpdk as affected packet and mark it properly, but let you do the OPNFV bug status updates. ** Also affects: dpdk (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: dpdk (Ubuntu) Status: New => Fix Released ** Changed in: dpdk (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High ** Changed in: dpdk (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => ChristianEhrhardt (paelzer) ** Changed in: dpdk (Ubuntu) Milestone: None => ubuntu-16.04 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dpdk in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1423649 Title: DPDK port on Ubuntu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/opnfv/+bug/1423649/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1546565] Re: Ownership/Permissions of vhost_user sockets for openvswitch-dpdk make them unusable by libvirt/qemu/kvm
Discussion slowed down and patch series grew - still not committed. => https://www.mail-archive.com/dev@openvswitch.org/msg57821.html The way the discussion went this included more and more of the change from commandline to ovsdb config for dpdk. [Bug 1551601] Re: DPDK init scripts need some hardening against broken specifications in /etc/dpdk/interfaces
Changes would be ready for upload now. I'll attach a debdiff dpdk_2.2.0-0ubuntu3-to-2.2.0-0ubuntu4.debdiff But for much easier review change by change I would recommend https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-server/dpdk/?h=ubuntu-xenial-to-dpdk2.2 The respective content of this upload is from tag "debian/2.2.0-0ubuntu3" until the head of the branch. Overall it will fix this and three other bugs plus a few minor issues - here the changelog FYI dpdk (2.2.0-0ubuntu4) xenial; urgency=medium * harden d/dpdk-init for configuration issues (LP: #1551601): - detect and warn about bad bus specifications - detect and warn about incomplete device specifications - detect and warn about non existing pci IDs - d/t/test-initscripts now testing various misconfigs - d/t/test-initscripts now also verifying service status * d/dpdk-init d/dpdk.conf now also support 1G hugepages (LP: #1551767): - detect and warn if 1G pages are not available but configured - d/t/test-initscripts now also testing hugepage allocations - d/dpdk.conf has an option to drop caches to incease the likeliness of successful 1G hugepage allocations (default off) * d/rules replaced uname -m with DEB_HOST_GNU_CPU (LP: #1551796): * fix testpmd to run without Xen environment (LP: #1551752): - upstream discussion is slow, but we need a fix now. [Bug 1547528] Re: How to handle specific HW needs for dep8 tests in CI
DPDK (actually openvswitch-dpdk) related issue is solved - tests are now detecting a lack of the feature and skip gracefully. [Bug 1551796] Re: DPDK build should avoid using uname -m
I looked into it and while DEB_BUILD_ARCH doesn't match uname -m the usage of something like the following should be appropriate.
