[Bug 1453440] [NEW] Rsync -z fails under 15.04 with rsync: on remote machine: --new-compress: unknown option

2015-05-09 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh
Public bug reported:

Recently my rsyncs all fail, both to RHEL 6 and to Ubuntu 14.04 as
remote hosts.

$   rsync -z otherserveR:myfile ./

rsync: on remote machine: --new-compress: unknown option
rsync error: syntax or usage error (code 1) at main.c(1572) [server=3.1.0]
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (0 bytes received so far) [Receiver]
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(226)
[Receiver=3.1.1]

I'm on the latest 15.04, and I think it started with 15.04, ie it seems
to be a regression. (but I cannot find other recent reports).

[Bug 1453440] Re: Rsync -z fails under 15.04 with rsync: on remote machine: --new-compress: unknown option

2015-05-09 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh
This is satisfactorily documented in the man page.
The solution, I guess, is to use --old-compress rather than -z, or wait for my
other hosts to get with the latest swank.

[Bug 1316111] [NEW] mount.cifs task fails to freeze during suspend; suspend fails

2014-05-05 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh
Public bug reported:

I have a CIFS mount and am operating over wireless on a Lenovo X230 Tablet
Thinkpad
When I close the lid to sleep, the sleep light flashes for a while and then
stops, and the machine fails to suspend. Same if I try to initiate sleep from
the menus.

/var/log/kern.log is attached.

This is bad because it can lead to damage from overheating of hardware
(let alone running out of battery). I close my lid and don't usually
check for success before putting it into my bag. If it fails to suspend,
it will overheat.

[Bug 901180] Re: cannot apt-get remove vsftp after installing it

2011-12-13 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh
Oh. So it's all my fault.
Following someone instructions when first installing, I must have done a
adduser ftp.

sorry.
Unless you think there should be a more detailed error message, I'm marking my
bug as invalid.
