I'm in contact with the debian maintainer. He's pretty close to uploading, there's just a single problem with the Makefile and it's generation of doc pages. [Bug 1514080] [NEW] lxc-templates lacks template for ubuntu core
Public bug reported: Hi, lxc-templates comes with tamples for ubuntu and ubuntu-cloud, but both are rather large and „complete”, too large for most applications. [Bug 1514080] Re: lxc-templates lacks template for ubuntu core
As far as I can see the ubuntu template uses debootstrap and not the core image. And a plain lxc image created with the ubuntu template takes 379 MB (btrfs file system), while an unpacked ubuntu core has just 145 MB. So I doubt that this is the same. It is, btw., not a good idea to include vom and sshd by default. What would a lxc container need a sshd for by default? On the contrary, it is definitely a severe security problem to install an sshd on y machine , which has a default user ubuntu with default password ubuntu and ability to become root with the same default password. [Bug 1507230] [NEW] 15.10beta trouble with suspend
Public bug reported: Hi, the powermode suspend (to ram) was working perfectly, reliably, fast and without any problem on my machine with 14.04. It does not work properly with 15.10 beta anymore: Doing a suspend through the Xubuntu menu drives the machine off. It can't restartet again and needs a fresh boot. using pm-suspend puts the machine in a correct suspend mode, where the power led is blinking as expected, and even wakes up again, but the screen is not initialized correctly. [Bug 1429486] [NEW] docker.io too outdated, cannot interpret common Dockerfiles
Public bug reported: Hi, the docker.io version currently in trusty/14.04 seems to be too outdated, even if updated in trusty-updated. It cannot interpret clauses quite common in todays Dockerfiles. E.g. I tried to generate a Firefox sync server by building the Dockerfile coming with git clone https://github.com/mozilla-services/syncserver It fails, because this Dockerfile contains ADD Makefile *.ini *.wsgi *.rst *.txt *.py /home/app/syncserver/ which is not interpreted in the expected way. Instead, the first argument (the file Makefile) is copyied into the second argument, i.e. the file with the Name *.ini *.wsgi *.rst *.txt *.py /home/app/syncserver/ In other words: It does not expand whitespace or common wildcards, it just takes everything after the first whitespace as the second parameter, which clearly violates docker's manual. [Bug 1324685] Re: gem file access problem
I've found what causes the problem. /usr/bin/bundle doesn't set the umask, and instead uses the umask set by the user who calls it. In my case, my umask is 027. Therefore, all files created by bundle (through sudo) in /var/lib/gems become unreadable for users other than root, and therefore bundle will work for root only, unless a chmod -R a+rX /var/lib/gems is performed. Problem doesn't occur if I use a umask of 022 . So bundle needs to set it's umask properly, i.e. something like 022. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to ruby1.9.1 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1324685 Title: gem file access problem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ruby1.9.1/+bug/1324685/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 888552] [NEW] cyrus-sasl2 denies authentication if host name unresolvable
Public bug reported: This just cost me about 5 hours of debugging. cyrus-sasl2 does not authenticate against a server if the hostname is not dns-resolvable. After upgrading to oneirc, I wondered, why the mail client mutt could access an imap server on three on my systems, but not on the fourth machine. It did not even try to authenticate after the imap server's greeting message and aborted with Error allocating SASL connection , although the configuration files were identical. After hours of debugging and analyzing with strace, tcpdump and source code I found that the reason was that the machine where it did not work was not known to my DNS name server. A query to it's (plain) hostname therefore failed. After modifying DNS to give an answer, SASL worked. Before, sasl_client_new() just gave a -1 as a result code. This is broken by design. I did not even work if the server was at 127.0.0.1, and the machine and the authentication should really work even without DNS resolving. [Bug 886770] [NEW] Directory /var/log/libvirt/qemu missing in package
Public bug reported: Hi, libvirt-bin comes with a /etc/logrotate.d/libvirtd that tries to logrotate log files in /var/log/libvirt/qemu , but the libvirt-bin package contains only /var/log/libvirt and not /var/log/libvirt/qemu. If that directory is absent (i.e. when not made manually), the logrotate cronjob generates an error message at every run: /etc/cron.daily/logrotate: error: error accessing /var/log/libvirt/qemu: No such file or directory error: libvirtd:1 glob failed for /var/log/libvirt/qemu/*.log error: found error in /var/log/libvirt/qemu/*.log , skipping If a logrotate accesses a directory, this directory must exist. [Bug 613619] Re: qem/kvm misinterprets LVM volume geometry
Here are some discussions where I found problems mentioned that seem to be the same or closely related problem: http://www.howtoforge.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-30329.html http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1425421 I am not sure yet what exactly the reason is, but I experienced similar problems on several hosts, both with kvm and qemu. You can install a system on a partitioned lvm volume from the host, but once you boot it, the virtual machine can't mount it (or generates rubbish like reading files that have been deleted under FAT16). Interestingly one of the commenters in the ubuntu discussion above mentioned that it worked when leaving space at the beginning of the lvm. I once tried to convert a regular ubuntu machine into an almost identical virtual copy for backup reasons. I first used fdisk -c with -u command (which results in different positions for the partitions), and when I bootet that virtual machine, it could mount only the first two partitions, but then ran into severe trouble when trying to mount the third filesystem (beeing unable to display file permissions or contents and such things). When I repeated everything with a regular old- fashioned fdisk (without -c and -u) it worked. But that was obviously some luck, since repeating this with lvm volumes of different size was not possible. For some reason the virtual disk looks somehow different from inside (virtual machine) than from outside (host), and it might be related to the the beginning of the lvm volume. -- qem/kvm misinterprets LVM volume geometry https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/613619 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 613619] [NEW] qem/kvm misinterprets LVM volume geometry
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: qemu-kvm Hi, when running qemu/kvm with kvm logical volumes as virtual disks, there's a severe problem, maybe with disk geometry. When partitioning the lvm volume with fdisk or parted, generating the partition device entries with kpartx, creating filesystems (ext3, fat16,..) and installing a linux with debootstrap, there's quite often the problem that the virtual machine then has problems accessing the virtual disk, resulting in read errors (usually misinterpreting dos filesystems, beeing unable to mount or fsck an ext3 and so on). Looks like the same problem as reported on http://qemu- forum.ipi.fi/viewtopic.php?f=4t=5218 Sometimes the problem did not occur when I use fdisk in dos compatibilty mode and/or rebooting the host after creating the partition table. Maybe that's a problem of disk geometry. Linux does not maintain a disk geometry for LVM volumes, so most tools like partition and filesystem generation tools use a default geometry of 255 heads and 63 sectors. On the other hand, the -drive option of qemu/kvm does not accept this geometry. The number of heads seems to be limited to 16. This is a severe problem since it can crash virtual machines and destroy data. regards ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: qemu (not installed) ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-24.38-generic 2.6.32.15+drm33.5 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-24-generic i686 Architecture: i386 Date: Wed Aug 4 22:21:59 2010 KvmCmdLine: Error: command ['ps', '-C', 'kvm', '-F'] failed with exit code 1: UIDPID PPID CSZ RSS PSR STIME TTY TIME CMD MachineType: TOSHIBA Satellite L300 ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-2.6.32-24-generic root=/dev/mapper/nord-root ro quiet splash ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=de_DE.utf8 SHELL=/bin/tcsh SourcePackage: qemu-kvm dmi.bios.date: 03/19/2008 dmi.bios.vendor: INSYDE dmi.bios.version: 1.30 dmi.board.asset.tag: Base Board Asset Tag dmi.board.name: Base Board Product Name dmi.board.vendor: Intel Corp. dmi.board.version: Base Board Version dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Tag dmi.chassis.type: 1 dmi.chassis.vendor: Chassis Manufacturer dmi.chassis.version: Chassis Version dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnINSYDE:bvr1.30:bd03/19/2008:svnTOSHIBA:pnSatelliteL300:pvrPSLB0E-02T01XGR:rvnIntelCorp.:rnBaseBoardProductName:rvrBaseBoardVersion:cvnChassisManufacturer:ct1:cvrChassisVersion: dmi.product.name: Satellite L300 dmi.product.version: PSLB0E-02T01XGR dmi.sys.vendor: TOSHIBA ** Affects: qemu-kvm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 lucid -- qem/kvm misinterprets LVM volume geometry https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/613619 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 610768] [NEW] does not install into given block devices
Public bug reported: Hi, I'm trying (and still doing some tests) to install a KVM host into a given lvm partition. When trying this, ubuntu-vm-builder completely ignored the block device (given with --raw) and created a qcow2. I am currently repeating tests, and although an existing block device as a hard disk is given, ubuntu-vm-builder still creates a directory in /tmp to run debootstrap on. This indicates a broken abstraction and object-orientation of the Disk model used in the vm builder. Please fix. A better concept would be to have an abstract base class of a Disk and then different inheritances for several disk types, which behave differently, e.g. for a given raw device use kpartx to create partitions and install directly into the partitions, while using a tmp file and qemu-img to pack a qcow2 image. But the current structure of vm-builder is poor in behalf of it's disk treatment. Definitely needs improvement urgently. regards ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: ubuntu-vm-builder 0.12.3-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-24.38-generic 2.6.32.15+drm33.5 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-24-generic i686 NonfreeKernelModules: wl Architecture: i386 Date: Wed Jul 28 10:12:10 2010 EcryptfsInUse: Yes PackageArchitecture: all ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=en_US.utf8 SHELL=/usr/bin/tcsh SourcePackage: vm-builder ** Affects: vm-builder (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 lucid -- does not install into given block devices https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/610768 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to vm-builder in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 582376] Re: Samba (nmbd) fails to start at boot
I'm coming from bug #590862 which was marked as a duplicate of this bug. And I had been asked to outline my network configuration. No, there is no error message in nmbd.log at all. The reason for not starting is not a failure in configuration. It always starts properly when I launch it manually with service nmbd start. On that machine I am using just a static ethernet network configuration. I'll attach my /etc/network/interfaces file. As far as I can see the problem is that nmbd is simply not always started at boottime. Interestingly I found it to be running in rare cases. My guess is that there is a timing problem with the net-device-up signal. The major problem might be the lack of proper documentation for the upstart code (and an increasing ignorance of the upstart maintainers). -- Samba (nmbd) fails to start at boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/582376 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
