[Bug 301794] Re: D-Link DNS323 NAS / Ubuntu 8.10 cannot connect windows share

2010-05-25 Thread J Posey
I have a DNS-323 which worked most (but not all) of the time with Hardy,
but quit working in 10.04.

adding

client lanman auth = yes

to the [global] section of smb.conf seems to have resolved the problem
as long as I use the IP address of the DNS (I've done a few other
things, configuring the DNS to the same user name as my 10.04 system,
changing the domain name ("workgroup" in winspeak) in smb.conf and in
the DNS-323 configuration to match in case, but don't know if they
matter).

HOWEVER: my LAN has never worked except when the router is configured as
the DHCP server, so I never know the IP address of the DNS-323. Is there
an easy way to find out? 192.168.0.102 works. RAID1-FDFA2B does not.

[Bug 234732] Re: Upgrade gutsy -> hardy, faled for packages: samba-common, smbclient, ubuntu-desktop, bash-completion

2008-06-12 Thread J Posey
My attempt to upgrade hung at samba-common. After restarting the system
boots, accepts user-name and password, but once desktop is up, keyboard
is no longer decoded properly (some keys send nothing, others
gibberish). Mouse still works.

This problem is critical in my opinion. If an upgrade can completely
disable an end-users desktop, the OS is not ready for everyday users. I
regret having recommended it based on experience prior to now.

[Bug 221427] Re: package samba-common 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4 failed to upgrade from Gutsy to Hardy

2008-06-12 Thread J Posey
Same, or at least similar experience. Distribution Upgrade hung up and
inactive after several complaints, with 2 minutes to go installing, and
never got to cleanup and reboot.
