[Bug 1564831] Re: s390x: error booting instance

2016-04-01 Thread Marco Pavone
Regarding issue 2), this is most probably due to the cpu mode setting:

The nova.conf needs the setting "cpu_mode = none" in order to not have it set
to 'host-model'.
This setting has not been working on s390x - this is a statement as of Mitaka
and libvirt 1.2.21 at least

[Bug 1468742] Re: whois returns exit 1 for certain tlds

2016-03-28 Thread Marco d'Itri
The .bz TLD apparently has a thin registry model, but some (all?)
domains registered using GoDaddy lack the proper referral to the GoDaddy
whois server, which is reported by the program with an error status.
This looks like an error in the registry data, since a manual query to
whois.godaddy.com will return the "missing" data. I will try to further
investigate this.

[Bug 1547115] [NEW] [FFe] charm 1.0

2016-02-18 Thread Marco Ceppi
Public bug reported:

A new charm command is being created to accompany charm-tools 2.0 and
Juju 2.0 - this new command will install /usr/bin/charm (previously
managed by charm-tools 1.0.0 so this command will break charm-tools
1.0.0 and suggest charm-tools 2.0 (where charm-tools 2.0 will depend on
this charm command.

Since this is a new package not yet in the archive, and it's dependent
on changes in the Juju 2.0 FFe we request a Freeze Exception for this
package as we wait for Juju and charm-tools to be uploaded as well.

This tool adds:

 * Ability to publish charms to the charm store without needing a dvcs
 * A charmstore compatible search and query lookup
 * Managing a users assets in the Juju charm store

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1546776] [NEW] [FFe] charm-tools 2.0

2016-02-17 Thread Marco Ceppi
Public bug reported:

With the release of Juju 2.0 a new charm-tools is planned to be released
with this. charm-tools 2.0 is a huge jump in features from the 1.0.0 in
the archive. It also becomes a suite of plugins to the new charm command
being developed in Juju 2.0 - In general it brings about bug fixes and a
new set of commands:

 * Ability to build charm using layers
 * Enhanced charm proof
 * Support for creating Windows charms
 * Removal of antiquated and broken commands

Because charm-tools relies on the new `charm` command being added, which
is dependent on Juju 2.0 (which has a FFe) this needs to be held until
the new Juju 2.0 and Charm command is released.

[Bug 1476199] [NEW] rsync rule in logcheck database needs update

2015-07-20 Thread Marco van Zwetselaar
Public bug reported:

This rule in /etc/logcheck/ignore.d.server/rsync:

^\w{3} [ :0-9]{11} [._[:alnum:]-]+ rsyncd\[[0-9]+\]: (wrote|sent)
[0-9]+ bytes (read|received) [0-9]+ bytes total size [0-9]+$

does not match rsync output, as rsync uses the comma as a thousands
separator in the byte counts. Suggested:

^\w{3} [ :0-9]{11} [._[:alnum:]-]+ rsyncd\[[0-9]+\]: (wrote|sent)
[0-9,]+ bytes (read|received) [0-9,]+ bytes total size [0-9,]+$

or strictly:

^\w{3} [ :0-9]{11} [._[:alnum:]-]+ rsyncd\[[0-9]+\]: (wrote|sent)
[0-9]{1,3}(,[0-9]{3})* bytes (read|received) [0-9]{1,3}(,[0-9]{3})*

[Bug 1357471] Re: Samba4 AD DC randomly dies, error: "Did not manage to negotiate mandetory feature SIGN for dcerpc auth_level 6".

2015-03-30 Thread Marco van Zwetselaar
My two Samba AD DCs run in an environment with frequent network
interruptions due to power cuts. It seems that even very brief network
interruptions trigger this issue, which then doesn't resolve itself when
connectivity is restored.

After most network interruptions, the following three messages repeat in
log.samba every 5 seconds, and 'sudo samba-tool drs showrepl' shows failures. A
'sudo service samba-ad-dc restart' is required to get everything working again.
- "Update failed: Miscellaneous failure (see text): Matching credential
(GC/{other-dc}.{domain}/{domain}@{DOMAIN}) not found"
- "Did not manage to negotiate mandetory feature SIGN for dcerpc auth_level 6"
- "Failed to bind to uuid {uuid-1} for
{uuid-1}@ncacn_ip_tcp:{uuid-2}._msdcs.{domain}[1024,seal,krb5]
NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED.

In a country with on average 12 powercuts *per day*, which despite a
huge arsenal of stabilisers and UPS-es do cause brief network
interruptions, you can imagine that this issue is a major pain in the
behind :-/

[Bug 190359] Re: dhclient continually seeks ip address on unconnected interface

I have a similar or same issue with Ubuntu 14.04.01 on a desktop with a
Ethernet connection only that worked with Ubuntu 8.04 since 2006. Since
updating, no internet.

I decided to upgrade and did a clean install of Ubuntu 14.04.01 trusty
and I NEVER had Internet again on this dektop. I am sure (tested) that
the cable is OK, the hardware is OK, the internet connection is OK

I have tried a lot of things and a long time spent with excellent
support form the comunity in Italy via IRC did not solve the issue.

I download 6.2 source package and recompile it on my ubuntu 14.04 trusty system
but now pinger have some problems:
It seems that if pinger receive a Packet too big ICMP v6 packet while is
pinging an ipv6 address run into strange errors, here is what I found in the

[Bug 1338993] Re: Full Screen Mode does not work with open-vm-tools and Kubuntu 14.10

2014-07-08 Thread Marco Parillo
** Description changed:

I normally use the VMware Player "Easy Install" for Kubuntu (and other
flavors), but for some reason it seems to hang on Kubuntu 14.10 Alpha 1.
So I tried the install later and then installing VMware Tools manually
(the way I have to for NetRunner), and that seemed to hang also. But on
- Fedora, there is an open-vm-tools package, which I had never heard of
- before, so I tried it in Kubuntu 14.10. It seemed to install smoothly,
- but the full screen mode does not work (that is my display stays small).
- Should this work (in other words, is it a bug), or am I missing the
- point of this package on Ubuntu.

[Bug 1257186] Re: memory leakage messages

2014-04-24 Thread Marco Scacchi
As Thomas (reusch) suggest in #14 :

Fix:
run "pam-auth-update" and remove "SMB password synchronization".

This isn't a security issue, simply you must remember that your samba password
may not match your system password.
In an enterprise enviroment, if ubuntu is used as samba server, i bet it use
kerberos tickets to verify the users identity throught domain controller or
alternative ldap infrastructure.

[Bug 1309389] [NEW] package sa-compile prevented clean upgrade from ubunu 13.10 to 14.04

2014-04-18 Thread Marco Meyerhofer
Public bug reported:

I upgraded my ubuntu desktop installation from ubuntu 13.10 to 14.04.
The update gave a error about sa-compile. Still the upgraded system seems to
work.
The debug information attached are from an additional apt-get dist-upgrade I
have run after a reboot.
Looks like the sa-compile just needs very long to finish.

P.s. I have evolution istalled, I think that requires spamassasin?

[Bug 1182905] Re: charm-tools installs juju-0.7

2014-03-11 Thread Marco Ceppi
** Description changed:

This is what happened to me:

- * Configured environments.yaml for AWS.
- * I bootstrapped Juju, deployed wordpress and mysql and related them. I
exposed wordpress and hit it in the browser. It worked. Woo!
- * While doing this I decided to install charm-tools
- * Now when I use Juju it errors requiring me to configure additional parts
of environments.yaml
+  * Configured environments.yaml for AWS.
+  * I bootstrapped Juju, deployed wordpress and mysql and related them. I
exposed wordpress and hit it in the browser. It worked. Woo!
+  * While doing this I decided to install charm-tools
+  * Now when I use Juju it errors requiring me to configure additional parts
of environments.yaml

Now, at first it only required me to configure a default-series for each
provider, which is a no-brainer, but then it asked for maas-oauth
  config.

This completely stopped me in my tracks. I don't care about the other
providers as I have already got my AWS provider configured and up and
running, and it put Juju in a position where it stopped working for me
  due to the missing configuration.

  ProblemType: Bug
  DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.10
  Package: charm-tools 0.3+151-0ubuntu1

  MarkForUpload: True
  PackageArchitecture: all
  SourcePackage: charm-tools
UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install)
+
+ [Impact]
+
+ * Users who install juju-core, then install charm-tools will have their
installations broken in precise
+ * This fix decouples juju from charm-tools as a Recommended package to a
Suggested package. This also makes juju-core package a satisfactory Suggestion
in addition to juju
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * On precise, install juju-core and juju-local using the preferred
installation method, from cloud-tools pocket archive.
+ * Run `juju init` to create environments.yaml
+ * Switch to local environment, `juju switch local`
+ * Verify version of juju installed, `juju version`
+ * Bootstrap with `sudo juju bootstrap`
+ * Deploy a charm, `juju deploy ubuntu`
+ * Install charm-tools package from precise archives
+ * Run `juju version`, command should fail.
+ * Run `juju --version`, command should succeed with a verion < 1.0.0
+ * Attempt to connect to environment with `juju status`, should fail
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * This simply changes the the control file to lower priority of
+ "Recommended" packages.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * This has been patched and updated in Saucy and Trusty as of version 1.0.0
of charm-tools. However, 1.0.0 breaks backwards compatibility with 0.3
packaging wise. charm-helper-sh and charm-helper-python are no longer supported
and subsequently dropped from 1.0.0 version of charm-tools and it's packaging.
Otherwise I likely would have requested a backport of 1.0.0 to precise.

  [USER STORIES]

James is a sysadmin at a company and is interested in getting his charms
into the store for convenience/peer review. He's got some internal stuff
that he can keep seperate, but he doesn't want to maintain boring
  infrastructure charms on his own.

Kirk is deploying a charm but finds that it's missing a feature or needs
a bugfix and he thinks he knows how to fix it.

Robert is a developer at a company who works on a database that is
charmed up, he notices that the charm needs improvement to follow his
project's recommended best practice, but isn't sure how to claim
  ownership of a charm.

Lars is used to github and is totally confused on how to get charms he's
  interested in.

Cliff submitted a fix to a charm two weeks ago and has no idea how to
get someone to get his fix in.

  [ASSUMPTIONS]

  - Mims/Castro want to mirror how OpenStack does reviews and code
contributions as well as their usage of LP Blueprints.

  [RISKS]

  - There's only so much simplification that can happen when it comes to
submitting code.
  - Poor response time leads people to believe that we don't want to help them.
  - Workflow ties into the store, so we need to be careful on how we simplify
this.

[Bug 1182905] Re: charm-tools installs juju-0.7

2013-05-22 Thread Marco Ceppi
This only affects users who have juju-core installed and not juju-0.7,
those with either juju-0.7 or juju-0.7 and juju-core are unaffected.

[Bug 1182905] Re: charm-tools installs juju-0.7

This is due to the package Recommending juju instead of either juju or
juju-core. I have an updated recipe and hope to have this fixed in the
PPA soon.

** Summary changed:

- charm-tools requires extra environments.yaml config
+ charm-tools installs juju-0.7

  --- UDS Discussion ---

We've learned a lot since the creation of charm helper. Debian packagers
took 7 iterations before boiling all of debhelper's goodness into a
declarative system. We can learn from them, and get there in our second
iteration.
  Discussion:
Charm-helper is not easily discoverable, poorly documented, and not as
awesome as it could be.
  dannf likes to write makefiles
  sources list
  config settings with meaning
want common things to go in a declarative charm
get rid of copied lib files/folder
Maintain charm-helper seperately from juju, calling it at the top of the hook
vs included in juju trunk
What happens during upgrade-charm or if a pakcage gets removed?
Juju can't help with leader election across units of a service, but
charm-helper could)
  Work:
  - describe how to handle lifecycle changes for packages in
charm-helper/packages (also thinkof: upgrade-charm)
  - install packages
  - debconf preseeding too
  - templating and/or building config files with dotd/concat partials
(erb_template _and_ cheetah_template helpers)?
  - remote_files
  - deploy from {distro,ppa,upstream?} ?
  - Manage config files (dynamic, static, etc)
  - Sanitize relation settings (potential risk of SQL Ejection, highjacking,
terror)
  - Plugin based for easy extension of charm-helper
  - leader election (perhaps somewhere other than charmhelper)
  - private files (SSL certs) ... no clue...
  - Collaborate on files that no charm "owns"

In fact, every time a "/etc/init.d/apache2 reload" is run, the apache2 dies.
Then, executing "/etc/init.d/apache2 restart" instead every time logrotate
rotate the apache2 logs, should fix the problem.

Anyway, this is just a workaround, because the apache shouldn't die
every time a reload is executed, right?

Thanks in advance

[Bug 1159748] Re: Ramdom apache2 crash in Ubuntu 12.04 (libpthread-2.15.so)

2013-04-02 Thread Juan Pablo Marco Cardona
Hello again,
last sunday the apache2 process died again:
[1710511.756125] /usr/sbin/apach[4244]: segfault at 6c ip 7f2e061b7e84 sp
7fffbdc40060 error 4 in libpthread-2.15.so[7f2e061ae000+18000]

I attach the apache2 (CoreDumpDirectory in the apache configuration file
) core generate in this crash.

Thinking about this crash, as it happens regularly almost every sunday around
06:45 AM, maybe the crash is generated by the tasks crond runs weekly:
grep weekly /etc/crontab
47 6* * 7   roottest -x /usr/sbin/anacron || ( cd / && run-parts
--report /etc/cron.weekly )

Weekly, crontab runs this tasks:

pwd
/etc/cron.weekly

ls
apt-xapian-index man-db

cat apt-xapian-index

#!/bin/sh

CMD=/usr/sbin/update-apt-xapian-index

# ionice should not be called in a virtual environment
# (similar to man-db cronjobs)
egrep -q '(envID|VxID):.*[1-9]' /proc/self/status || IONICE=/usr/bin/ionice

# Check if we're on battery
if which on_ac_power >/dev/null 2>&1; then
on_ac_power >/dev/null 2>&1
ON_BATTERY=$?

# Here we use "-eq 1" instead of "-ne 0" because
# on_ac_power could also return 255, which means
# it can't tell whether we are on AC or not. In
# that case, run update-a-x-i nevertheless.
[ "$ON_BATTERY" -eq 1 ] && exit 0
fi

# Rebuild the index
if [ -x "$CMD" ]
then
if [ -x "$IONICE" ]
then
nice -n 19 $IONICE -c 3 $CMD --quiet
else
nice -n 19 $CMD --quiet
fi
fi

cat man-db
#!/bin/sh
#
# man-db cron weekly

set -e

iosched_idle=
# Don't try to change I/O priority in a vserver or OpenVZ.
if ! egrep -q '(envID|VxID):.*[1-9]' /proc/self/status && \
   ([ ! -d /proc/vz ] || [ -d /proc/bc ]); then
dpkg_version="$(dpkg-query -W -f '${Version}' dpkg 2>/dev/null)"
if dpkg --compare-versions "$dpkg_version" ge 1.15.0; then
iosched_idle='--iosched idle'
fi
fi

if ! [ -d /var/cache/man ]; then
# Recover from deletion, per FHS.
mkdir -p /var/cache/man
chown man:root /var/cache/man || true
chmod 2755 /var/cache/man
fi

# regenerate man database
if [ -x /usr/bin/mandb ]; then
# --pidfile /dev/null so it always starts; mandb isn't really a daemon,
# but we want to start it like one.
start-stop-daemon --start --pidfile /dev/null \
--startas /usr/bin/mandb --oknodo --chuid man \
  $iosched_idle \
  -- --quiet
fi

exit 0

Then, i will deactivate this two crontab tasks (apt-xapian-index and
man-db) and monitor the next Sunday if the apache crash happens again :)

Anyway, i have configured a watchdog that checks every 3 minutes if the
apache2 process is running, if not, it starts it.

Hello,
thanks for you quickly support.

I can confirm the apache2 package version, it was the previous one,
2.2.22-1ubuntu1.2

We are using the apache2 prefork version, not the worker.

This issue just happens in one of our servers.

[Bug 1025214] [NEW] fails to download dists/precise/main/binary-amd64/Packages

2012-07-16 Thread Marco Markgraf
Public bug reported:

vmbuilder fails to download the file "Packages".
This is no wonder, as there are only the files Packages.gz and Packages.bz2 on
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/precise/main/binary-amd64/

"Release" and "Release.gpg" get downloaded just fine.

[Bug 978356] Re: squid3 gets killed at startup with dnsmasq and no networkmanager

2012-07-04 Thread Marco Menardi
Sorry, I've been too busy / other problems since today.
I've upgraded the installation that was affected (3.1.19-1ubuntu3.12.04.1 has
been installed), removed the workaround in rc.conf, rebooted and works fine now!
Thanks a lot for the fix
