[Bug 1395098] [NEW] [Utopic] OpenLDAP version is outdated

2014-11-21 Thread Peter Matulis
Public bug reported:

Debian unstable has openldap at version 2.4.40 but the version in the
latest stable Ubuntu release (14.10) is 2.4.31 (released upstream in
April 2012). A lot of bugs have been fixed since then [1].

Please put version 2.4.40 into the next release of Ubuntu (15.04).

[Bug 1312156] [NEW] [Precise] Potential for data corruption

2014-04-24 Thread Peter Matulis
Public bug reported:

Under certain conditions there is faulty logic in function
tengine_stonith_notify() which can incorrectly add successfully fenced
nodes to a list, causing Pacemaker to subsequently erase that node’s
status section when the next DC (Designated Controller) election occurs.
With the status section erased, the cluster considers that node is down
and starts corresponding services on other nodes. Multiple instances of
the same service can cause data corruption.

Conditions:

1. fenced node must have been the previous DC and been sufficiently functional
to request its own fencing
2. fencing notification must arrive after the new DC has been elected but
before it invokes the policy engine

Pacemaker versions affected:

1.1.6 - 1.1.9

Stable Ubuntu releases affected:

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Ubuntu 12.10 (EOL?)

Fix:

https://github.com/ClusterLabs/pacemaker/commit/f30e1e43

2014-03-20 Thread Peter Matulis
I just observed this after a Lucid:Precise upgrade. It was a fresh
Lucid install and all that was done was a simple NFS server share export
and then do-release-upgrade.

My workaround was purging nfs-common and nfs-kernel-server and then
reinstalling them.  Results:

The following extra packages will be installed:
  libtirpc1 rpcbind
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  portmap
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  libtirpc1 nfs-common nfs-kernel-server rpcbind

There is something seriously wrong with the Raring package. Starting
keepalived caused my system to lock up. The same happened after trying
it on a few different platforms. My last attempt was with a traditional
KVM guest. After the freeze I reset the guest and I was able to capture
a screenshot of a kernel panic.

[Bug 1211876] Re: keepalived reload buggy due to improper ipv4 address comparison

2013-09-27 Thread Peter Matulis
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
  There are at least 2 identified problems with keepalived on Precise when
trying to reload the configuration (/etc/keepalived/keepalived.conf):

  (a) The removal of a server from the cluster does not work when the port
  of that server is in use by another member server

  (b) The change of weight of a cluster member does not work

  Reload is done by either:

  1. sudo service keepalived reload
  2. sudo kill -HUP `pidof keepalived`

  The upstream devel list suggests that issue (a) [1] has been resolved in
  version 1.2.3 which is currently only in Debian unstable via version
  1.2.7. I can't find the actual bug supposedly filed by 'Ronie Gilberto
  Henrich'. I have not tested 1.2.7 as it is not easily available to me.

  The pertinent entry for (a) in the upstream changelog [2] I believe is
  here:

  {{{ * check : Fix IPv4 address comparison routine. }}}

  This bug is a request to have fixes for both issues ([3] for (a))
  introduced into Ubuntu 12.04.

[Bug 1211876] [NEW] [Precise] keepalived reload buggy

2013-08-13 Thread Peter Matulis
Public bug reported:

The pertinent entry for (a) in the upstream changelog [2] I believe is
here:

{{{ * check : Fix IPv4 address comparison routine. }}}

This bug is a request to have fixes for both issues ([3] for (a))
introduced into Ubuntu 12.04.

But you did specify the -m ^^^

"ipvsadm -e -t -t 10.131.208.21.80 -r 192.168.0.5 -w 0 -m
works."

"-t -t" ?

You mentioned SSL. How does that fit in here?

You can add bug data from an afflicted, internet-connected, system by
running this:

$ apport-collect 839390

Otherwise, there are ways to save bug data to file, transfer it to
another machine, and then upload it to this bug.

[Bug 903901] Re: [Lucid] backport fix for ITS#6458

2011-12-15 Thread Peter Matulis
** Description changed:

  The problem:

  Replication fails if an attribute of a multi-value attribute entry is
  removed if the attribute does not have a equality matching rule defined
  in the schema.

  The problem can be mitigated temporarily by a doing a full re-sync by
  removing the affected database and restarting the service to trigger a
  full sync.

  This is fixed upstream beginning with the slapd 2.4.25 branch:

  openldap-2.4.25/CHANGES: Fixed slapd syncrepl for attributes with no
  matching rule (ITS#6458)

  For Ubuntu, this translates to the fix appearing in Oneiric:

  slapd | 2.4.21-0ubuntu5.6 | lucid-updates
  slapd | 2.4.23-6ubuntu6.1 | natty-updates
  slapd | 2.4.25-1.1ubuntu4 | oneiric-updates

  I am requesting the fix be backported at least to Lucid.

  Upstream bug:

http://www.openldap.org/its/index.cgi/Software%20Bugs?id=6458;selectid=6458;usearchives=1

  SRU Justification:

- [Impact]: TBC
+ [Impact]: Serious. Replication, when used, is there for important reasons. It
should not break due to a schema, even if poorly designed.
  [Development Fix]: Fixed in an upstream release and thus already present
since Oneiric
  [Stable Fix]: lucid-proposed.debdiff, attached - patches taken from upstream
git repository
- [Test Case]: TBC
+ [Test Case]: Attached as test_case.txt (from upstream bug; for consistency)
  [Regression Potential]: looks to be minimal from looking at the patch. There
appears to be a comprehensive test suite that continues to pass with this patch
applied.

[Bug 903901] [NEW] [Lucid] backport fix for ITS#6458

2011-12-13 Thread Peter Matulis
Public bug reported:

[Bug 872437] [NEW] the slapd-config database should not be under /etc

2011-10-11 Thread Peter Matulis
Public bug reported:

The live slapd-config database currently reside under /etc/ldap/slapd.d . Can
we change it to something like /var/lib/slapd ?
Although it *does* consist of configuration material it is also a live database

[Bug 833818] [NEW] default DIT suffix should be definable by user (debconf/preseed)

2011-08-25 Thread Peter Matulis
Public bug reported:

After much complaining (bug #442498) the slapd package in Natty now sets
up a default DIT out of the box. However, the change is a little
braindead as it sets up the suffix based on the localdomain of the
localhost. I realize the change came in from Debian but I'm sure we can
do better than this. Please allow the user to decide (debconf/preseed)
what suffix to use for their database!

[Bug 692647] Re: Network bridge does not come up upon boot

2010-12-27 Thread Peter Matulis
It appears the lag of a few seconds is enough to prevent other network-
required services from starting. I have tried with openvpn and
dhcp3-server. So I need to resort to the same rc.local [1] I had when
the bridge wasn't coming up at all pre-Lucid. I have tested this on
Maverick only.

ifconfig eth0 up
brctl addbr br0

ifconfig br0 up
ip address add 10.153.107.61/24 brd + dev br0

@R. Jones

Go to

and follow instructions under "Adding this PPA to your system".

Install

php5 5.3.2-1ubuntu4.3

I tested this myself and the results were unsatisfactory (Apache error
after about 10% download of the test ISO file). Can you confirm the
same?

[Bug 557300] Re: tomcat6 package should fully support running as a different user

2010-04-09 Thread Peter Matulis
I just tested this on a fresh Hardy install (tomcat55) and it also does
not work:

==
# dpkg-statoverride --add ubuntu ubuntu 755 /etc/tomcat5.5

# dpkg-statoverride --list
ubuntu ubuntu 755 /etc/tomcat5.5

# aptitude install tomcat5.5

# ls -ld /etc/tomcat5.5/
drwxr-x--- 4 tomcat55 adm 4096 2010-04-09 17:23 /etc/tomcat5.5/
==

Here is the same with a fresh Intrepid (tomcat6) install:

==
# dpkg-statoverride --add ubuntu ubuntu 755 /etc/tomcat6

# dpkg-statoverride --list
ubuntu ubuntu 755 /etc/tomcat6

# apt-cache madison tomcat6
   tomcat6 | 6.0.18-0ubuntu3.3 | http://archive.ubuntu.com
intrepid-updates/main Packages
   tomcat6 | 6.0.18-0ubuntu3.3 | http://security.ubuntu.com
intrepid-security/main Packages
   tomcat6 | 6.0.18-0ubuntu3 | http://archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages

# aptitude install tomcat6=6.0.18-0ubuntu3

# ls -ld /etc/tomcat6/
drwxr-xr-x 3 ubuntu ubuntu 4096 2010-04-09 17:43 /etc/tomcat6/
==

Then, still on Intrepid:

==
# aptitude purge tomcat6

# dpkg-statoverride --list
ubuntu ubuntu 755 /etc/tomcat6

# aptitude install tomcat6=6.0.18-0ubuntu3.3

# ls -ld /etc/tomcat6/
drwxr-xr-x 4 ubuntu ubuntu 4096 2010-04-09 18:04 /etc/tomcat6/
==

So I'm not sure how to interpret this. Anyone?

Strange. I built a Hardy virtual machine and 1.2.9 was installed.
Indeed, the archives do say 1.0.10. I'll have to determine what
happened with my VM. At any rate, if the error is thrown then that
version doesn't support the parameter.

2010-03-03 Thread Peter Matulis
Hmmm, the default shipped with 8.10 is

dovecot-imapd   1:1.1.4-0ubuntu1.3

but an updated 8.04 has

dovecot-imapd   1:1.2.9-1ubuntu3

Why does this parameter work with the older version?

And @Gaylord, why aren't you running the latest available with 8.04
anyway?

[Bug 516016] [NEW] [karmic] openvpn service starts before dhclient

2010-02-02 Thread Peter Matulis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openvpn

I have a server that was upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10. I cannot say with
certainty what was happening during 9.04 but systematically when I
reboot the daemon does not come up:

$ sudo service openvpn status
[sudo] password for blah:
 * could not access PID file for VPN 'server'

$ sudo service openvpn start
 * Starting virtual private network daemon(s)...
 *   Autostarting VPN 'server'
   ...done.

 $ sudo service openvpn status
 * VPN 'server' is running

The server is currently being assigned an IP address (DHCP). It looks
like that OpenVPN is coming up before that address is provided. From
/var/log/syslog:

[Bug 497258] Re: vmbuilder fails when adding package 'ubuntu-desktop'

2009-12-23 Thread Peter Matulis
I did add a sync to the following file

/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/VMBuilder/disk.py

Here

def umount(self):
self.vm.cancel_cleanup(self.umount)
if (self.type != TYPE_SWAP) and not self.dummy:
logging.debug('Syncing')
run_cmd('sync')
logging.debug('Unmounting %s', self.mntpath)
run_cmd('umount', self.mntpath)

But there is a umount happening before that function is called.

I ran vmbuilder in debug mode and here are the pertinent messages:

So, as suggested, I did run lsof:

$ sudo lsof -R /home/ubuntu/Data/tmp/vmbuilderYt3CgM/root/proc

COMMAND PID PPID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME
dd808 1 root0r   REG0,30 4026531987 /proc/kmsg

lsof21109 31948 root6r   DIR0,301176729 /proc/21109/fd

So dd (with init as parent) is to blame.

Then:

$ ps ax | grep -w dd
4 0   808 1  20   0   8192   604 syslog Ss   ?  0:00 dd bs=1
if=/proc/kmsg of=/var/run/rsyslog/kmsg

Kernel messages appear to not have finished flushing to disk.

I decided to try a sleep in this file

/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/VMBuilder/plugins/ubuntu/dapper.py

Here

def unmount_dev_proc(self):
import time
time.sleep(360)
run_cmd('umount', '%s/dev/pts' % self.destdir)
run_cmd('umount', '%s/dev' % self.destdir)
run_cmd('umount', '%s/proc' % self.destdir)

But this did not help.

[Bug 344400] Re: libvirtError: internal error unable to start guest

2009-09-30 Thread Peter Matulis
Is this bug only relevant to disk files? I am booting guests fine with
raw disks, albeit LVM-based.

Details:

On a Jaunty KVM host I'm using LVM. When creating a guest I allocated 2
logical volumes (4 GB and 80 GB) to it to be used as raw disks. With
virt-manager I used the first one (/dev/vda) for installation (with LVM
again; so LVM over LVM) and afterwards added the second one (/dev/vdb).
I also set up LVM on the second disk and created a 40 GB logical volume.
The VM starts fine.

[Bug 429443] [NEW] /usr/bin/kvm-ok should be disassociated from kvm

2009-09-14 Thread Peter Matulis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kvm

If we want to make the kvm-ok script really useful then it should be
disassociated from the kvm package. Users should not have to install
kvm and its dependents in order to discover whether they can use kvm. I
propose we move this script into the base Ubuntu install.

[Bug 306293] Re: Mod_ssl randomly causes apache threads to use 100% of CPU

2009-02-05 Thread Peter Matulis
Chuck, comment added to the corresponding private bug (306601). In
short, this PPA appears to solve the problem. I am recommending an SRU
for it.

Darn it. I don't suppose you know what Jeremy Allison meant by this

[Bug 280712] [NEW] Accessing printing properties for some drivers causes excessive load on CPU

2008-10-09 Thread Peter Matulis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

When accessing printing properties for some drivers (Xerox and HP
Designjet) the load on the CPU goes way up (90%). There is a latency of
30 to 60 seconds during this time. Other drivers (Ricoh) do not exhibit
this behaviour.

This has been observed on versions of Samba <= 3.0.28 .

[Bug 192080] Re: shutdown fails.. nfs

2008-09-29 Thread Peter Matulis
Workaround:

In /etc/rc0.d change the symlink

K25open-iscsi

to

S80open-iscsi

Then try a shutdown test.

If successful, do something similar for /etc/rc6.d.
