[Bug 490951] [NEW] quagga needs libreadline5

2009-12-01 Thread Roman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: quagga

quagga_0.99.13-1_i386.deb needs libreadline5 but in the Ubuntu 9.04
libreadline6 is installed by default.
It's not a bug, but I think it would be better if quagga used libreadline6 too.

[Bug 512777] [NEW] first login fails when NIC is managed by NM-wicd

2010-01-26 Thread Roman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba-common

Hi,

Setting Ubuntu Karmic and Debian Squeeze clients to authenticate against
AD win2003 server.

It works, but first login fails. Second attempt gives access, however.

Syslog shows a line "Network is unreachable" and log.winbindd shows
"Could not receive trustdoms"

Same behaviour on Debian Squeeze, but only when interface is manages bu
either nm / wicd. Setting eth0 on /etc/network/interfaces worked fine,
no need to second attempts. On Karmic, it fails mo matter if there are
settings for eth0 on /etc/network/interfaces or not

>From syslog, it seems that winbind runs before dhclient puts the link up

Re: [Bug 512777] Re: first login fails when NIC is managed by NM-wicd

2010-01-28 Thread Roman
Hi

Static IPs: Some friends have the same config working on a static
network since some 2 years (Debian Etch IIRC). With karmic they report
it's working as long as they use wicd: but they are unable to use
NetworkManager (no logon servers). They are now planning to migrate all
the school within a 2 months deadline so it seems they feel happy. I
could get a syslog from them if needed.

DHCP: tried on another machine with samba package installed, so smbd and
nmbd appear on syslog too. I tried the four combinations of lines/no
lines about eth0 on /etc/network/interfaces and managed = false/true on
/etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf.

Two of them (managed = false) follow below. I guess this covers the two
usual scenarios. Behaviour is always the same in all four cases. No wicd
tests done.

It seems that, with any config, and even if everybody gets fired up just
in time, dhclient does not finish before samba daemons start. I hope you
can see the causes I'm unable to see.

After some googling, it seems that there is a NETWORKWAIT option on
RedHat that goes in /etc/network/interfaces equivalent, but I'm unable
to see any mention about it on .deb-based distros. I know this is a
samba bug report, but does anybody knows about it?

Funniest thing is, if you wait some 30 seconds after gdm appears on
screen, you can login at first attemp; if you don't wait, first login
fails (?) Second login attempt always work.

Syslog snippets follow, I could send corresponding samba logs with
loglevel = 3 if needed.

Best regards,
Roman

[Bug 512777] Re: [winbind] first login fails when NIC is managed by NM-wicd

2010-02-02 Thread Roman
Tried with static IPs this morning: it works as expected with both
NM/wicd. First login works and there is not need to wait any time.

Not sure if this is relevant, but windows dhcp server has "school"
configured as domain name, even if the doc made on purpose states that
domain should be "school.net".

Best regards,
Roman

[Bug 1026478] [NEW] CIFS: Files not shown in mount.smbfs directory listings

2012-07-19 Thread Roman Fiedler
Public bug reported:

The listing (dirread) of a CIFS-mounted share does not contain one file, but
which is really available on the share. When accessing the file directly (stat
or open call), the file can be accessed. The consequence of this issue is:
* file is not included in copy/backup, since the directory listing fails to
show it
* attacker could hide arbitrary data from linux system.

To reproduce:

* Create files in a way, that you know, which files should be on the
share. It is not clear, if this has to be done in a special way to
trigger the problem (e.g. name length fill up buffers in a way to
trigger +-1). On our system, pairs of files were created, so that it was
obvious, that one of the pair was missing.

* Run some ls tests:

 ** List all files in directory starting with one name
(diropen/dirread):

# ls -al log | grep '2007-08-23-syslog.1.'
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 36 Oct 30 2009 2007-08-23-syslog.1.gz-lta.gpg.checksum

** List two named files (stat):

# ls -al log/2007-08-23-syslog.1.gz-lta.gpg
log/2007-08-23-syslog.1.gz-lta.gpg.checksum | grep '2007-08-23-syslog.1.'
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 2148 Oct 30 2009 log/2007-08-23-syslog.1.gz-lta.gpg
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 36 Oct 30 2009 og/2007-08-23-syslog.1.gz-lta.gpg.checksum

* With additional echo 1 > /proc/fs/cifs/cifsFYI

Both files show up in dmsg log:

[Bug 1026478] Re: CIFS: Files not shown in mount.smbfs directory listings

2012-07-19 Thread Roman Fiedler
I tried the "noserverino" workaround now and it worked.

Since without knowing that workaround, severe dataloss or more unlikely
malicious data hiding could occur on those machines, I would mandate to
make that option more prominent, e.g. to force mounts to have one of
"noserverino" or "serverino", but users not knowing about this option
will fail to mount and hence fail to suffer from data loss. Other option
would be, that if "noserverino" is always safe, that this should be the
default for mount.smbfs

[Bug 1026478] Re: CIFS: Files not shown in mount.smbfs directory listings

2012-07-23 Thread Roman Fiedler
Due to note 3, I assume, that note 4 is irrelevant and just a byproduct
of marking the issue duplicate/invalid.

According to note 3 and if applicable, please add reference to the
kernel bug report after creation, so that I can start tracking that one
instead.

OK, seems that apport-collect needs network access.

# apport-collect 1026478
ERROR: connecting to Launchpad failed: [Errno 110] Connection timed out

I'll look at it with the man-pages in hand when there is a little more
time.

[Bug 219929] Re: dhcp3-client warns about nonexisting pid

2008-04-23 Thread Roman Yepishev
Frankly speaking, I could not find the code that can creates the empty
file, but here are the steps to reproduce:

1. Find interface that is not connected (to simplify tests), in my case
it is eth0.

2. Run and interrupt the client:
 sudo dhclient eth0
 [sudo] password for rtg:
 Internet Systems Consortium DHCP Client V3.0.5
 Copyright 2004-2006 Internet Systems Consortium.
 All rights reserved.
 For info, please visit http://www.isc.org/sw/dhcp/

 Sending on   LPF/eth0/00:c0:9f:b1:0e:04
 Sending on   Socket/fallback
 DHCPDISCOVER on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 8

3. Now rerun the client:
 sudo dhclient eth0

[Bug 318703] [NEW] nagios check_smtp expects integer instead of double

2009-01-19 Thread Roman Fiedler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nagios-plugins-basic

Command execution returns error with double value:
# /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_smtp -H  localhost -w 0.2
check_smtp: Warning time must be a positive integer
Usage:check_smtp -H host [-p port] [-e expect] [-C command] [-f from addr][-A
authtype -U authuser -P authpass] [-w warn] [-c crit] [-t timeout]
[-S] [-D days] [-n] [-v] [-4|-6]

But docu ( /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_smtp -h) says:
 -w, --warning=DOUBLE
Response time to result in warning status (seconds)
 -c, --critical=DOUBLE
Response time to result in critical status (seconds)

I think, that the integer check is done on error, since all other
commands with -w / -c option take double arguments and sub second
response time checks are really useful.

[Bug 1204795] [NEW] socat applies settings to wrong fd when accepting connection

2013-07-25 Thread Roman Fiedler
Public bug reported:

After accept socket options are applied to the listening socket again,
but not to the accepted connection's socket. This can be seen when e.g.
requesting TCP-keepalives to be sent:

When connecting with socat to a non-keepalive listener everything works as
expected:

socat TCP4:[IP]:1234,keepalive=1,keepidle=1,keepintvl=1,keepcnt=3 -

setsockopt(3, SOL_TCP, TCP_KEEPIDLE, [1], 4) = 0
setsockopt(3, SOL_TCP, TCP_KEEPINTVL, [1], 4) = 0
setsockopt(3, SOL_TCP, TCP_KEEPCNT, [3], 4) = 0
setsockopt(3, SOL_SOCKET, SO_KEEPALIVE, [1], 4) = 0

and keepalives are sent each second.

When using a keepalive-listener and non-keepalive sender, no keepalives are
sent. With

socat
TCP4-LISTEN:1234,reuseaddr=1,keepalive=1,keepidle=1,keepintvl=1,keepcnt=3
-

following trace can be captured:

setsockopt(3, SOL_SOCKET, SO_REUSEADDR, [1], 4) = 0   sets keep alive
on listening socket
setsockopt(3, SOL_TCP, TCP_KEEPIDLE, [1], 4) = 0
setsockopt(3, SOL_TCP, TCP_KEEPINTVL, [1], 4) = 0
setsockopt(3, SOL_TCP, TCP_KEEPCNT, [3], 4) = 0
fcntl64(3, F_SETFD, FD_CLOEXEC) = 0
bind(3, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(1234),
sin_addr=inet_addr("0.0.0.0")}, 16) = 0
listen(3, 5)= 0
accept(3, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(57251),
sin_addr=inet_addr("[IP]")}, [16]) = 5
setsockopt(3, SOL_SOCKET, SO_KEEPALIVE, [1], 4) = 0

so the keep-alive is set again on the server socket before bind and
after accept, but not on the accepted socket (5). I haven't checked the
kernel specs if keepalive should be inherited with accept, but at least
it seems, that this is not the case.

The bug has little to no security implications unless security-relevant
options in socat are applied that way to new sockets. On our systems,
that bug lead only to a memory starvation DOS on two small virtual
machines that could not cope with the high number of socat processes due
to abandoned TCP-connections when statefull firewalls in between were
frequently restarted.

The following !UNTESTED! patch to the socat trunk should fix it.

[Bug 10239] Re: dhcp3-client: Does not send hostname to server by default

2010-12-13 Thread Brent Roman
Dec. 2010; bug is still present in Mint Linux Debian Edition.
A nice way to fix this would be to modify dhclient, adding a function to its
Data Expression parser called, something like, hostname that would simply
return the client's hostname. Or, solve this and the whole class of related
problems in one blow by adding a more generic function called shell, which
would take a shell command string as its argument and return the string output
to stdout as its result. With such a "shell" function, one could simply add
the following to the dhclient.conf file:

send host-name = shell "hostname -s"  #the -s suppresses any domain name

Such functions would be straightforward extensions. See man page dhcp-
eval.5 for details on "Data Expressions". I don't understand the
earlier comment that "the program doesn't work this way"

But, given that the upstream maintainers do not seem to be readily
accepting patches, I have resorted to the simple hack of rewriting the
dhclient.conf file just before dhclient starts.

#   mv  /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf  /etc/dhcp/dhclient.base
#   mv  /sbin/dhclient  /sbin/dhclient.original
# save the attached script to /sbin/dhclient
#   chmod +x /sbin/dhclient

After you do this, just remember that dhclient.conf will be rewritten.
Make any configuration changes in dhclient.base instead.

If the upstream devs indicate that they are interested in accepting the
Data Function patches described above, I would be willing to submit
them. However, I won't investigate further until the basic idea is
discussed and accepted. Otherwise, the effort is just wasting
everyone's time. (mostly mine :-)

[Bug 578527] Re: map serial port throws "chardev: opening backend "tty" failed"

2010-12-24 Thread Roman Yepishev
As I can see on my installation the following happens:

requested_mask="r::" denied_mask="r::"

but

virt-aa-helper.c:
865 for (i = 0; i < ctl->def->nserials; i++)
866 if (ctl->def->serials[i] &&
ctl->def->serials[i]->data.file.path)
867 if (vah_add_file(&buf,
868  ctl->def->serials[i]->data.file.path, "w")
!= 0)
869 goto clean;
870

872 if (vah_add_file(&buf, ctl->def->console->data.file.path, "w")
!= 0)

so apparmor profiles contain e.g. /dev/ttyS0 w, which allows writing to
the file, but not reading :-/

How to get this problem:
just start the guest with virtio storage driver and make the guest do some

Actually i was thinking the same about software raid.
I will try kvm on my laptop and see if the problem still exists.
cant try on same server atm, there are some virtual m$ servers, which are in

i will report as soon as i can.

What we could do if it is all about software raid?

[Bug 703811] Re: kvm guest's cpu usage with virtio storage driver goes up to 100% because of flush process

2011-01-20 Thread Roman R
1. installed the latest kernel, was not able to connect to QEMU in virt-manager
:( it just stays in Connecting state.
2.. installed latest qemu-kvm and kvm packages, still not able to connect to it.
no information in logs :(
during the os boot got this error:
init: ureaded main process (265)

virt-manager is latest.

3. desided to boot from old kernel with new kvm/qemu and there is no more this
error.
could You please release this patched qemu-kvm and kvm for maverick? thanks.

2011-03-01 Thread Roman R
I dont have any raids configured at my laptop but had on my production server
and the reason, the reason why i've installed kvm on laptop was that i was
thinking that its raid problem :)
and to reproduce (for me) only i've got to do is fresh ubuntu installation with
kvm.
i dont know, may be its up to my hardware specs and some of kvm / libvirt code
part. but the patch u've provided seems to solve the problem. so there must be
something in the changelog

2010-03-04 Thread Roman Yepishev
Hello,

I am experiencing this issue with:
qemu-kvm 0.12.3-0ubuntu4
Linux buzz 2.6.32-15-generic #22-Ubuntu SMP Tue Mar 2 02:24:17 UTC 2010 i686

I was able to start the vms by rebooting into
Linux buzz 2.6.32-14-generic #20-Ubuntu SMP Sat Feb 20 05:38:50 UTC 2010 i686
GNU/Linux

So there is something being done in -15 release that is causing this
issue.

Dustin,

That happens even when I'm just trying to start ubuntu cd off an ide
emulation. The guest kernel finds out that it runs in kvm and commits
suicide.

I have just checked alpha1 LiveCD and mouse moves perfectly there, however it
does not leave the virtual screen boundaries.
How is that implemented in later versions?

Confirming that as well, this is not a mouse-only problem.

With alpha1 the mouse move does not trigger any lags. With current
install the following is experienced:

$ while true; do sleep 1 && date; done
gives normal ticks when mouse is not moved, but once the mouse is moved (e.g.
circling around the screen), the printing stops at some time and then the guest
"catches up" quickly so that there is no visible distortion of time.

[Bug 1103385] [NEW] Raring crashes on 12.04 LTS host with cirrus @800x600

2013-01-23 Thread Roman Yepishev
Public bug reported:

STR:

1. Install 13.04 current in 12.04 LTS kvm machine
2. Change resolution to 800x600 in the guest
3. Log out
4. Log in

Expected results:
Unity desktop is displayed

Actual results:
Virtual machine hangs, restarts (with no kernel panic). Sometimes general
protection fault is seen in dmesg (and bad swap file message too)

Changing cirrus model to a vga makes it possible for VM to login
properly.

The reason why I was switching to a lower resolution is because the
display did not fit into my netbook properly.

In guest 12.10 changing resolution works as expected on both cirrus and
vga.

[Bug 1133236] [NEW] qemu-kvm: wrong CPU capabilities shown in cpuid

2013-02-26 Thread Roman Racine
Public bug reported:

I have installed the qemu-kvm packages from:
Description:Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS
Release:12.04

The installed versions are:
ii  kvm  1:84+dfsg-0ubuntu16+1.0+noroms+0ubuntu14.7
dummy transitional package from kvm to qemu-kvm
ii  qemu-kvm 1.0+noroms-0ubuntu14.7
Full virtualization on i386 and amd64 hardware

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS on the host machine as well as on the
guest machine. I'm using the gcc package 4:4.6.3-1ubuntu5 for compiling
the source code below.

If I compile this code using -O2 -march=native as options on the virtual guest
machine, this results in a SIGILL:
#include
#include

int main(void) {
  char testchar[20] =  "abcde";
  printf("%d\n",(int) strlen(testchar));
  return 0;
}

Debugging shows that the illegal instruction is:
andn%eax, %ecx, %eax

The basic problem is that the virtual CPU does not support the andn
instruction. Nevertheless it says so. Executing this assembly code will
tell that the CPU does support the andn instraction although in reality
it doesn't:

movl $7, %eax
movl $0, %ecx
cpuid

This means that code compiled with gcc -march=native potentially does
not run as it should, as soon as gcc uses the andn instruction.

The CPU on the host system is:

[Bug 1133236] Re: qemu-kvm: wrong CPU capabilities shown in cpuid

2013-02-26 Thread Roman Racine
The host is a production machine, I cannot upgrade it to quantal or
raring. I have however installed a VM with quantal (running on the same
host system). I cannot reproduce the bug there using the same code but
this might also be related to the newer compiler. I don't have any
contemporary intel machines at hand unfortunately ...

if i change nic type to e1000 instead of virtio, migration starts, but fails on
99%.

from LP bug #1291321 and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QemuPTMigration i've did the
following:
1) added package with roms on dst

ii  kvm-ipxe-precise1.0.0+git-3.55f6c88-0ubuntu1.14.04.1
all PXE ROM's for KVM vms migrated from 12.04
2) set incoming_assume_qemukvm
root@hw20:~# fgrep -ir assume /etc/libvirt/
/etc/libvirt/qemu.conf:incoming_assume_qemukvm = 1
3) tryed to set machine type (MT) on VM as pc-1.0-precise, via virsh edit
 but this fails - in return i always get "pc-1.0-qemu-kvm" as MT. Also
tryed edit /etc/libvirt/qemu/ckeymanager04.pm.lux.xml while domain is off, but
the same result - "pc-1.0-qemu-kvm"

Does  https://lists.linuxcontainers.org/pipermail/lxc-

[Bug 1476662] Re: lxc-start symlink vulnerabilities may allow guest to read host filesystem, interfere with apparmor

2015-09-30 Thread Roman Fiedler
I'm not so deep in LXC to know how the design/specification is done for
that. Discussion of "features" might therefore suite the lxc-users
mailing list better.

The other thing is, if Ubuntu would treat that part of new behaviour of
LXC affecting some users as "regression" and hence might act on that. I
do not know, who would be up to decide that. Perhaps someone from Ubuntu
could comment on that.

[Bug 1470860] [NEW] requests functional API won't close sockets

2015-07-02 Thread Roman Podoliaka
Public bug reported:

Upstream issue: https://github.com/kennethreitz/requests/issues/1882

How to reproduce:

import requests

def make_request():
resp = requests.get('http://google.com')
resp.close() # this appears to have no effect, even though the function
exists

make_request()

This may result in possible FDs leakage and breaks OpenStack Nova unit tests
(nova.tests.unit.test_wsgi.TestWSGIServerWithSSL.test_app_using_ipv6_and_ssl)
when 14.04 version of python-requests is used.

The commit fixing the issue:
https://github.com/ContinuousFunction/requests/commit/c0e927c52b8f049d6aa816360780580173871ac6

[Bug 673836] [NEW] Doesn't use java picked trough debian alternatives.

2010-11-10 Thread Roman A. Taycher
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tomcat6

I may be wrong and maybe this is done to keep tomcat configuration as cross
distro as possible but from /ect/init.d/tomcat6 it looks to my untrained eyes as
though instead of picking java from debian alternatives system, it just picks
the
 first of openjdk,sun java 6,sun java 5,ibm java that is installed.
