[Bug 1547208] [NEW] package libvirt-bin=1.3.1-1ubuntu1 fails to install due to new virtlockd initd script

2016-02-18 Thread Mikhail S Medvedev
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu Xenial, new release of libvirt-bin fails to cleanly install:

root@xenial-server-2016-01-18-ppc64el:~# apt-get install libvirt-bin
--snip--
Setting up libvirt-bin (1.3.1-1ubuntu1) ...

Done.
 * Starting libvirt logging daemon virtlogd

 [ OK ]
Starting virtlockd daemon: /etc/init.d/virtlockd: 46: /etc/init.d/virtlockd:

invoke-rc.d: initscript virtlockd, action "start" failed.
dpkg: error processing package libvirt-bin (--configure):

Processing triggers for dbus (1.10.6-1ubuntu2) ...
Errors were encountered while processing:
 libvirt-bin
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

After installing 'daemon' package, the different error would show up indicating
that init.d script uses parameters
that daemon can not handle:

Setting up libvirt-bin (1.3.1-1ubuntu1) ...
 * Starting libvirt logging daemon virtlogd

 [ OK ]
Starting virtlockd daemon: daemon: unrecognized option '--check'
usage: daemon [options] [--] [cmd arg...]

root@xenial-server-2016-01-18-ppc64el:~# daemon --version
daemon-0.6.4

I could not figure out exactly what version of daemon it expects. The
failing source package: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/xenial/ppc64el
/libvirt-bin/1.3.1-1ubuntu1

Offending portion of /etc/init.d/virtlockd:

start() {
echo -n "Starting $SERVICE daemon: "
daemon --pidfile $PIDFILE --check $SERVICE $PROCESS --daemon $VIRTLOCKD_ARGS
RETVAL=$?
echo
[ $RETVAL -eq 0 ] && touch /var/lock/subsys/$SERVICE
}

2015-07-15 Thread val-s
as a clarification, the 820 has the BT, audio, and camera turned off in
the bios, but the 9480m does not. Those three items are not a variable
in this issue.

[Bug 1318840] [NEW] Excel Mac open files as read-only on Samba 4.1.6-ubuntu

2014-05-12 Thread Jonathan S Fisher
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

Use OSX 10.9.2 and Excel 2011 with latest service pack
Install samba packes on Trusty Server
Create a writeable share in Samba
Mount the share in OSX
Copy an excel document to share
Try to edit it, see it's read-only
Close excel, see you can copy/delete/whatever the file

This might be related? Not sure:
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10564

I'm going to try and compile custom version of Samba with the patch and
verify that fixes the issue.

[Bug 1311660] [NEW] drbd8-utils doesn't create /dev/drbd/ after updating to 8.4.3

2014-04-23 Thread Dennis S.
Public bug reported:

Hi there,

I've found the following issue with drbd8-utils. This is my environment:

- Two Cluster Nodes with Ubuntu 12.04.2:
$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS

- installed package:
$ dpkg -l drbd8-utils

With this configuration, everything works fine. After I updated drbd8-utils
8.3.11 to the latest release in precise-updates (drbd8-utils 8.4.3) I missed
the following directory structure:
- /dev/drbd/*

Especially I missed my DRBD devices I accessed via /dev/drbd/by-res/mysql and
/dev/drbd/by-res/www.
I found out, that the udev-rules 65-drbd.rules were moved out from
/etc/udev/rules.d/ to /lib/udev/rules.d/

[Bug 280053] Re: xinetd enabled is not overruled by disable in service declaration

2013-10-20 Thread Klaus S. Madsen
I reported it because I believe that disable should take precedence from
my reading of the man-page. Furthermore making disable overrule enable
is the most secure thing to do if there is any ambiguity about whether a
service should be enabled or disabled in the configuration file.

If you have read the entire man-page and determined that my
understanding is wrong, please feel free to close the bug. I have no
need to argue further about a 5 year old bug-report that no one has
looked at in 4 years, and which exists in a piece of unloved legacy
software.

[Bug 1190154] [NEW] please backport the missing logrotage file for the php5-fpm package

2013-06-12 Thread Malte S. Stretz
Public bug reported:

This isse was reported in bug 706945 in 2011 already but closed as Won't
Fix with the weird explanation php5-fpm has been removed from upstream
so im closing this bug. php5-fpm is obviously still in Ubuntu/Debian in
2013 and is still missing a logrotate file.

I noticed this because of a rather big php5-fpm file on a busy staging
server.

There is one available in Debian's php5-fpm 5.4.11-1; it would be great
if that file could be backported to the package in precise (currently
5.3.10-1ubuntu3.6).

[Bug 1190154] Re: please backport the missing logrotage file for the php5-fpm package

2013-06-12 Thread Malte S. Stretz
I'm not sure if it is worth a backport either, just wanted to bring this
up. I had to cope with a rather large log file which ate disk space but
generally (aka in production) the php5-fpm.log doesn't grow very much
and AFAIK is rewound on each restart, too. It would make my life easier
though because now I deploy the attached logrotate script manually :)

[Bug 1006898] Re: [SRU] dnsmasq fails at leasing issues when using vlan mode

2013-02-16 Thread Michael S. Moody
Did this make it into 12.04.2 LTS? We still experience breakage here,
and must manually apply a newer dnsmasq out of band (which causes all
sorts of other administration burdens). I don't see it in cloud-archive
either according to the most recent comment 1 month ago.

[Bug 1006898] Re: [SRU] dnsmasq fails at leasing issues when using vlan mode

2012-11-19 Thread Michael S. Moody
This is hitting a lot of openstack users who chose 12.04 due to the
announcement of backporting openstack to precise for 3 years:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ServerTeam/CloudArchive

We fall into that category. It's pretty much impossible to use stock
versions of dnsmasq and openstack in 12.04. This adds a significant
burden to our team. This is a pretty serious problem that needs to find
its way into 12.04 (precise), sooner rather than later, especially since
it affects the recommended openstack essex configuration (vlan). It's
causing our Windows Server instances to fatally lose their IP address
config. This essentially makes our cloud unpredictably unstable, with
instances coming and going randomly. Yes, there are potential
workarounds (at least for openstack), but they're ugly:

https://lists.launchpad.net/openstack/msg11696.html

nova.conf
# release leases immediately on terminate
force_dhcp_release=true
# one week lease time
dhcp_lease_time=604800
# two week disassociate timeout
fixed_ip_disassociate_timeout=1209600

Again, this needs to be fixed considering this is LTS, and considering
that precise is supposed to be a solid foundation upon which to build an
openstack cloud.

Looks like this is still an issue in Precise (see below). You can find
the most recent version of that image at
http://m0n0.ch/wall/downloads.php (get the generic-pc-1.33.img). I can't
judge about Quantal.

[Bug 1015104] [NEW] package winbind 2:3.6.3-2ubuntu2.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-06-19 Thread Joseph S. D. Yao
Public bug reported:

This is a systemic problem. Under the previous version I had installed
the lexmark-inkjet-09-driver package which installed using a shell tar
script. Unfortunately the description had one line with just a space in
it. Not a blank line: a space. Now, 'dpkg' could report to me that
this particular package had a blank line in the Description field of
that particular package. If it could do that, why couldn't it just
overcome this difficulty? And the line DID have a space in it! (I
tried to use '}' and '{' in 'vi' to get to it, and failed. 'Dpkg'
should be able to understand the same thing.)

When I tried to install 12.04 over the previous version, MANY packages
failed to install. They are now ghost images in the update manager, and
I haven't yet figured how to get them to install. The user interface is
missing such little things as the logout / lock screeen / reboot menu
and any way to run apps that were not already buttons on the desktop.
Help? Yes, _I_ know how to find the programs and run them from the
shell, but not everyone in my family is willing to do that!

Thanks!

 If not, that seems like a bug in whatever is running VPNs, but its
 probably not *this* bug. I would suggest reporting it separately with
 'ubuntu-bug ' where is the package which controls your VPN.

[Bug 919068] Re: bridge_ports all doesn't work at boot time

2012-03-07 Thread Chistophe S
We had similar network problem (and slow boot) with a virtual bridge. It
appeared the culprit was a somehow misonfigured ebtables package. The
following command solved it:

 $ dpkg-reconfigure ebtables

debian stable amd64
bridge-utils 1.4-5
ebtables 2.0.9.2-2

[Bug 211631] Re: Network is brought down before network filesystems are unmounted (CIFS timeout at shutdown)

2011-11-02 Thread Gonzals, S.
another note:

The cifs mount are avalaible through vpn (in this case cisco vpn),
whenever the vpn connection is gone/disconnect,
but the remote drives still appear as mounted in mtab,
then
$umount --a -t cifs -l -f
takes a lot of time

the same on 10.4

also changing the shutdown, reboot (halt and poweroff) and restart
in /sbin
only works for the commandline,
not with gui (right upper corner gnome, choose shutdown),
the gui reboots instead of a shutdown

for now i manually umount before shutting down,
seems the only option without many surprises.

   I installed smbfs,and then put some entries into /etc/fstab, so they
 automount on startup. An example of this is here:
   //ip address of nas box/share name /home/hamish/directory name cifs

 credentials=/home/hamish/.smbcredentials,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777,uid=1000,gid=1000
   0  0

   ** note the use of cifs in the lines above **

   (The username and password are in the .smbcredentials file)

   On startup, for each entry in the /etc/fstab file, I get the following in
 dmesg:
   [ 70.495504] CIFS VFS: Error connecting to IPv4 socket. Aborting
 operation
   [   70.495569]  CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -101
   But the shares are mounted, and a nautilus session opens up (which is also
 annoying...)

   Also logging off with CIFS shares mounted in /etc/fstab, it sits with an
 error message:
   CIFS VFS: server not responding
   CIFS VFS: no response for cmd 50 mid this number changes
   And takes about 2 minutes to timeout. This also happened with Gutsy

   Should the timing of the mounting and dismounting be changed so that
   it works? It is related to the starting of network-manager and CIFS
   shares trying to connect on startup *before* the network is up, and
   dismounting the shares *after* network-manager is stopped.

[Bug 211631] Re: Network is brought down before network filesystems are unmounted (CIFS timeout at shutdown)

2011-10-24 Thread Gonzals, S.
I have the same problem:
on
# lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS
Release:10.04
Codename:   lucid

none of the these options worked for me, short:
- dbus.conf
- K14 links
- S31 earlier
- a modprobe option
http://blog.dhampir.no/content/cifs-vfs-no-response-for-cmd-n-mid

the only option that seemed to work i found on
http://hardc0l2e.wordpress.com/2011/06/30/ubuntu-11-04-shutdown-and-restart-problem-with-cifs/

in short:

Rename the current shutdown, reboot and restart commands in /sbin.

# mv /sbin/shutdown /sbin/shutdown2
# mv /sbin/reboot /sbin/reboot2
# mv /sbin/restart /sbin/restart2

2. Then create scripts with names of the previous commands in /sbin,
which contains the following:

#!/bin/sh
umount -t cifs -a -f -l
/sbin/shutdown2 $@
exit 0

3. Make similar script for reboot and restart command which also points to
/sbin/reboot2 and /sbin/restart2.

but i also had to change the two links under /sbin, halt and poweroff to point
to reboot2 instead of reboot,
otherwise my machine would shutdown when isuing a shutdown -h now,
but just rebooted instead.

Could this be related to cifs getting mounted twice (when present in
fstab)?

It took me quiet some time, to test, and find a solution.

more output:
i use cifs mount with a vpn connection (cisco),
after mount -a i then get
$mount
..
/dev/sdb1 on /media/terra type ext4 (rw,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=udisks)
//fas-gt-01/rt on /mnt/rt type cifs (rw,mand)
//fas-gt-02/brt on /mnt/brt_gt type cifs (rw,mand)
//fas-gt-02/EX on /mnt/Ex type cifs (ro,mand)
//fas-gt-02/EX on /mnt/Ex type cifs (ro,mand)
//fas-gt-02/GR on /mnt/gr type cifs (ro,mand)
//fas-gt-02/GR on /mnt/gr type cifs (ro,mand)

So the ro mount are mounted twide..? While the rw get mounted once..
fstab options rw mount:
cifs
rw,noserverinfo,uid=1000,gid=1000,file_mode=0750,dir_mode=0750,credentials=/home/user/config/scripts/.cifs.credentials
fstab options rw mount:
cifs
ro,noserverinfo,uid=1000,gid=1000,file_mode=0440,dir_mode=0440,credentials=/home/user/config/scripts/.cifs.credentials

i have attached cifs entries in syslog

G

system default (usually the isp's dns), in each smb.conf; and it works.

There are several potential issues at work here.

My first experience with SAMBA was with 11.04. After spending several
hours on the Samba website learning about it and smb. It's clear that
the changes necessary to make it just work in a gui browser
necessitate a non-stock configuration for SAMBA. That is to say,
knowing SAMBA as it was designed isn't enough to understand the Ubuntu
implementation. This confuses the issue if one is trying to
troubleshoot but has no access to documentation of what they did to make
it work in Ubuntu.

Another issue is the same old tired monster. The reason why so many
Ubuntu veterans scream the battle-cry: Do A Clean Install!. Human
error. Every version upgrade I've done has carried some problem or
other that is most likely due to either a maintainer error in a previous
revision, an error in the update itself, or lack of proper communication
between maintainers (that documentation I mentioned earlier). So,
somewhere along the development pipeline no one remembers that a smb-
native server uses bcast to get what it needs: name-address
resolution.

Funny thing is, I went over 30 years of my life knowing next to nothing
about tcp/ip. Then my first stab at SAMBA fails. Less then half-way
through Tcp/Ip for Dummies, and I figured out the problem. It only took
$30 and 80 pagesLOL

[Bug 520386] Re: libvirt-bin hypervisor does not support virConnectNumOfInterfaces / unable to create domain with virt-manager using network bridge

2011-04-30 Thread S.
Bug is also in Natty Narwhal 11.04

Please raise the severity of this.

Very Disappointed that this key feature is not in Ubuntu
(creating bridge from the virtual machine manager)

and the work around mentioned is really usable nor follows the Ubuntu way of
making it just work.

2010-12-20 Thread Rajkumar S
Hi Serge,

Thanks for your reply.

With the kvm command you have provided the guest booted fine. I can
login to the guest with out any issues, though the network does not
seems to be working. But I guess the command you have provided do not
enable networking for the guest.

Thanks again and I will be happy to do additional debugging/provide more
information if required.

[Bug 691609] [NEW] Cannot migrate a VM from Ubuntu 9.04 to Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS

2010-12-17 Thread Rajkumar S
Public bug reported:

Hi bug masters,

I have a Ubuntu 9.04 server running virtualization with many guests. The
guests are defined by an xml file (attached) in /etc/libvirt/qemu and
started by virsh start domain name. The guests are using a qcow2
type disks. I want to upgrade this server to Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS and to
test if all my guests can be safely migrated over to new server I have
installed lucid in a similar server and copied over the disk image and
config xml. I created the domain using virsh create domain xml file
(after making changes to IP address, mac address and source file
location). When I start the VM using virsh start domain name I get
an error in the vnc console (screen shot attached).

The disk image I copied from old server is running fine in that server.
I have also tried with another disk image, in case the first image is
corrupted, and result is the same.

Actual kvm command in the new server (lucid) is as follows:

/usr/bin/kvm -S -M pc-0.12 -enable-kvm -m 256 -smp 1 -name a1.6-q2 -uuid
9f58079c-057f-5726-4daa-3d30888d7bbe -chardev
socket,id=monitor,path=/var/lib/libvirt/qemu/a1.6-q2.monitor,server,nowait
-monitor chardev:monitor -localtime -boot c -drive
file=/var/kvm/a1.6-q2.img,if=ide,index=0,boot=on,format=raw -net
nic,macaddr=52:54:00:13:34:42,vlan=0,name=nic.0 -net
tap,fd=42,vlan=0,name=tap.0 -chardev pty,id=serial0 -serial
chardev:serial0 -parallel none -usb -vnc 192.168.3.7:42 -vga cirrus

In old server (jaunty):

/usr/bin/kvm -S -M pc -m 384 -smp 1 -name alex2 -uuid 4c949839-9c2d-6c31
-8bfb-1b0b0504f92e -monitor pty -pidfile
/var/run/libvirt/qemu//alex2.pid -localtime -boot c -drive
file=/usr/local/var/kvm/alex2.img,if=ide,index=0,boot=on -net
nic,macaddr=52:54:00:12:34:49,vlan=0 -net
tap,fd=28,script=,vlan=0,ifname=vnet6 -serial pty -parallel none -usb
-vnc 192.168.3.3:49

One difference I noted was that the -drive option has an extra argument
format=raw which looks odd because the image I am using is qcow2 in
format.

Running the kvm command line directly from console in new server
resulted in the following error:

/usr/bin/kvm -S -M pc-0.12 -enable-kvm -m 256 -smp 1 -name a1.6-q2 -uuid
9f58079c-057f-5726-4daa-3d30888d7bbe -chardev
socket,id=monitor,path=/var/lib/libvirt/qemu/a1.6-q2.monitor,server,nowait
-monitor chardev:monitor -localtime -boot c -drive
file=/var/kvm/a1.6-q2.img,if=ide,index=0,boot=on -net
nic,macaddr=52:54:00:13:34:42,vlan=0,name=nic.0 -net
tap,fd=42,vlan=0,name=tap.0 -chardev pty,id=serial0 -serial chardev:serial0
-parallel none -usb -vnc 192.168.3.7:42 -vga cirrus
char device redirected to /dev/pts/4
TUNGETIFF ioctl() failed: Bad file descriptor
TUNSETOFFLOAD ioctl() failed: Bad file descriptor
pci_add_option_rom: failed to find romfile pxe-rtl8139.bin

So I could not test with format=qcow2 in -drive option.

Pl let me know if any further information is required to traig this
issue.

with regards,

raj

[Bug 445595] Re: smbclient fails with SMBecho failed. Maybe server has closed the connection

2010-12-02 Thread Malte S. Stretz
Got this error on maverick when I try to connect to a Time Capsule
(7.4.2). The error might be on the server side though since some
Windows workstation have random problems when connecting as well...

I had a look at wireshark and the Time Capsule does indeed respond with
an error. The Echo Request packet (0x2b) receives a Echo Response
(0x2b) with an NT status of 0x0002 (Unknown according to Wireshark):

   ff 53 4d 42 2b 02 00 ff ff 88 01 40 00 00 00 00

I don't know if smbclient should handle such a response or not.

[Bug 445595] Re: smbclient fails with SMBecho failed. Maybe server has closed the connection

2010-12-02 Thread Malte S. Stretz
According to
  http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee441884%28PROT.13%29.aspx
is 0x0002 STATUS_SMB_NO_SUPPORT.

As this is only an echo I guess smbclient should just ignore this error.
Can somebody please reopen this bug?

The problem is solved. It turned out, that the password for the
debian-sys-maint user in mysql was not equal to the one in the
/etc/mysql/debian.cnf file. (I have no idea why not - I don't usually
mess with this user)

Sorry for the inconvience.

This might solve this problem: grant executable permissions to
thedirectory containing the files. clamdscan will be able to scan it-
tested this in maverick(10.10) and it works.

[Bug 573919] Re: autofs doesn't work with lucid

2010-07-06 Thread Azamat S. Kalimoulline
Autofs doesn't work because it startup script has incorrect dependency
to statd (doesn't have). Can submit workaround: in /etc/init/autofs.conf
add line

status statd | grep -q start/running || start statd

after pre-start script line

[Bug 211631] Re: Network is brought down before network filesystems are unmounted (CIFS timeout at shutdown)

I can confirm that this bug is fixed for wired network users. However,
I can no longer get any previously expounded solution to work when using

[Bug 211631] Re: Network is brought down before network filesystems are unmounted (CIFS timeout at shutdown)

2009-10-27 Thread S. Christian Collins
The moving/copying of the rc0/6 scripts doesn't seem to work in Karmic
RC (using wireless). I just get a hang on shutdown with the message
init: usplash post-start process (2446) terminated with status 1 and
never seems to shut down. If I put the scripts back the way they're
supposed to be, then I simply get the usual CIFS VFS errors.

[Bug 280053] Re: xinetd enabled is not overruled by disable in service declaration

2009-10-14 Thread Klaus S. Madsen
I've tested it, by downloading the Karmic Koala Kubuntu beta live image,
running apt-get update, and then apt-get install xinetd to install the
xinetd daemon.

Altering the /etc/xinetd.conf file as described in the original bug
report, still enables the chargen service. I also verified that the
documentation still states that the disable = yes line in the service
configuration takes precedence.

So this bug is still present in Karmic.

[Bug 297675] Re: catalina.policy and bootstrap.jar should be copied on soft linked

2008-11-16 Thread Azamat S. Kalimoulline
Eclipse uses installed tomcat, but create in fact it's own user instance, e.g.
it creates separate server.xml, catalina.policy, catalina.properties,
context.xml, tomcat-users.xml and web.xml configuration files. So, when
configure installed runtime, it can be pointed to system installation (unpacked
zip). There are also can be system configuration, but in Eclipse it might be
redefined, so it can use another port, another polices and so on.
One condition it requires a valid tomcat installation. When creating server
runtime in eclipse, it requires bootstrap.jar in bin. When deploying
application it requires catalina.policy file which used as initial
catalina.policy for user installation.
Now I do as you adviced: create my tomcat user instance, link bootstrap.jar and
copy catalina.policy. It works. But I want to do less work and to work my user
instance out of the box in Eclipse.
