[Bug 280053] Re: xinetd enabled is not overruled by disable in service declaration
I reported it because I believe that disable should take precedence from my reading of the man-page. Furthermore making disable overrule enable is the most secure thing to do if there is any ambiguity about whether a service should be enabled or disabled in the configuration file. If you have read the entire man-page and determined that my understanding is wrong, please feel free to close the bug. I have no need to argue further about a 5 year old bug-report that no one has looked at in 4 years, and which exists in a piece of unloved legacy software. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to xinetd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/280053 Title: xinetd enabled is not overruled by disable in service declaration To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xinetd/+bug/280053/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1190154] [NEW] please backport the missing logrotage file for the php5-fpm package
Public bug reported: This isse was reported in bug 706945 in 2011 already but closed as Won't Fix with the weird explanation php5-fpm has been removed from upstream so im closing this bug. php5-fpm is obviously still in Ubuntu/Debian in 2013 and is still missing a logrotate file. I noticed this because of a rather big php5-fpm file on a busy staging server. I'm not sure if it is worth a backport either, just wanted to bring this up. I had to cope with a rather large log file which ate disk space but generally (aka in production) the php5-fpm.log doesn't grow very much and AFAIK is rewound on each restart, too. [Bug 1006898] Re: [SRU] dnsmasq fails at leasing issues when using vlan mode
This is hitting a lot of openstack users who chose 12.04 due to the announcement of backporting openstack to precise for 3 years: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ServerTeam/CloudArchive We fall into that category. It's pretty much impossible to use stock versions of dnsmasq and openstack in 12.04. This adds a significant burden to our team. This is a pretty serious problem that needs to find its way into 12.04 (precise), sooner rather than later, especially since it affects the recommended openstack essex configuration (vlan). It's causing our Windows Server instances to fatally lose their IP address config. This essentially makes our cloud unpredictably unstable, with instances coming and going randomly. Yes, there are potential workarounds (at least for openstack), but they're ugly: https://lists.launchpad.net/openstack/msg11696.html nova.conf # release leases immediately on terminate force_dhcp_release=true # one week lease time dhcp_lease_time=604800 # two week disassociate timeout fixed_ip_disassociate_timeout=1209600 Again, this needs to be fixed considering this is LTS, and considering that precise is supposed to be a solid foundation upon which to build an openstack cloud. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dnsmasq in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1006898 Title: [SRU] dnsmasq fails at leasing issues when using vlan mode To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dnsmasq/+bug/1006898/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1015104] [NEW] package winbind 2:3.6.3-2ubuntu2.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Public bug reported: This is a systemic problem. Under the previous version I had installed the lexmark-inkjet-09-driver package which installed using a shell tar script. Unfortunately the description had one line with just a space in it. Not a blank line: a space. Now, 'dpkg' could report to me that this particular package had a blank line in the Description field of that particular package. If it could do that, why couldn't it just overcome this difficulty? And the line DID have a space in it! (I tried to use '}' and '{' in 'vi' to get to it, and failed. 'Dpkg' should be able to understand the same thing.) When I tried to install 12.04 over the previous version, MANY packages failed to install. They are now ghost images in the update manager, and I haven't yet figured how to get them to install. The user interface is missing such little things as the logout / lock screeen / reboot menu and any way to run apps that were not already buttons on the desktop. Help? Yes, _I_ know how to find the programs and run them from the shell, but not everyone in my family is willing to do that! Thanks! [Bug 211631] Re: Network is brought down before network filesystems are unmounted (CIFS timeout at shutdown)
I have the same problem: on # lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description:Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS Release:10.04 Codename: lucid none of the these options worked for me, short: - dbus.conf - K14 links - S31 earlier - a modprobe option http://blog.dhampir.no/content/cifs-vfs-no-response-for-cmd-n-mid the only option that seemed to work i found on http://hardc0l2e.wordpress.com/2011/06/30/ubuntu-11-04-shutdown-and-restart-problem-with-cifs/ in short: Rename the current shutdown, reboot and restart commands in /sbin. # mv /sbin/shutdown /sbin/shutdown2 # mv /sbin/reboot /sbin/reboot2 # mv /sbin/restart /sbin/restart2 2. Then create scripts with names of the previous commands in /sbin, which contains the following: #!/bin/sh umount -t cifs -a -f -l /sbin/shutdown2 $@ exit 0 3. Make similar script for reboot and restart command which also points to /sbin/reboot2 and /sbin/restart2. but i also had to change the two links under /sbin, halt and poweroff to point to reboot2 instead of reboot, otherwise my machine would shutdown when isuing a shutdown -h now, but just rebooted instead. Could this be related to cifs getting mounted twice (when present in fstab)? It took me quiet some time, to test, and find a solution. more output: i use cifs mount with a vpn connection (cisco), after mount -a i then get $mount .. /dev/sdb1 on /media/terra type ext4 (rw,nosuid, nodev, uhelper=udisks) //fas-gt-01/rt on /mnt/rt type cifs (rw,mand) //fas-gt-02/brt on /mnt/brt_gt type cifs (rw,mand) //fas-gt-02/EX on /mnt/Ex type cifs (ro,mand) //fas-gt-02/EX on /mnt/Ex type cifs (ro,mand) //fas-gt-02/GR on /mnt/gr type cifs (ro,mand) //fas-gt-02/GR on /mnt/gr type cifs (ro,mand) So the ro mount are mounted twide..? [Bug 592610] Re: Shared folders (through Samba) when following instructions sometimes does not work correctly
Yes sir, still seeing it. Seems to be an issue when you've got at least two servers on the same subnet. Tell it to use 'bcast' before the system default (usually the isp's dns), in each smb.conf; and it works. There are several potential issues at work here. My first experience with SAMBA was with 11.04. After spending several hours on the Samba website learning about it and smb. It's clear that the changes necessary to make it just work in a gui browser necessitate a non-stock configuration for SAMBA. That is to say, knowing SAMBA as it was designed isn't enough to understand the Ubuntu implementation. This confuses the issue if one is trying to troubleshoot but has no access to documentation of what they did to make it work in Ubuntu. Another issue is the same old tired monster. The reason why so many Ubuntu veterans scream the battle-cry: Do A Clean Install!. Human error. Every version upgrade I've done has carried some problem or other that is most likely due to either a maintainer error in a previous revision, an error in the update itself, or lack of proper communication between maintainers (that documentation I mentioned earlier). So, somewhere along the development pipeline no one remembers that a smb- native server uses bcast to get what it needs: name-address resolution. Funny thing is, I went over 30 years of my life knowing next to nothing about tcp/ip. Then my first stab at SAMBA fails. Less then half-way through Tcp/Ip for Dummies, and I figured out the problem. It only took $30 and 80 pagesLOL -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/592610 Title: Shared folders (through Samba) when following instructions sometimes does not work correctly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/592610/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 691609] [NEW] Cannot migrate a VM from Ubuntu 9.04 to Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
Public bug reported: Hi bug masters, I have a Ubuntu 9.04 server running virtualization with many guests. The guests are defined by an xml file (attached) in /etc/libvirt/qemu and started by virsh start domain name. The guests are using a qcow2 type disks. I want to upgrade this server to Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS and to test if all my guests can be safely migrated over to new server I have installed lucid in a similar server and copied over the disk image and config xml. I created the domain using virsh create domain xml file (after making changes to IP address, mac address and source file location). When I start the VM using virsh start domain name I get an error in the vnc console (screen shot attached). The disk image I copied from old server is running fine in that server. I have also tried with another disk image, in case the first image is corrupted, and result is the same. Actual kvm command in the new server (lucid) is as follows: /usr/bin/kvm -S -M pc-0.12 -enable-kvm -m 256 -smp 1 -name a1.6-q2 -uuid 9f58079c-057f-5726-4daa-3d30888d7bbe -chardev socket,id=monitor,path=/var/lib/libvirt/qemu/a1.6-q2.monitor,server,nowait -monitor chardev:monitor -localtime -boot c -drive file=/var/kvm/a1.6-q2.img,if=ide,index=0,boot=on,format=raw -net nic,macaddr=52:54:00:13:34:42,vlan=0,name=nic.0 -net tap,fd=42,vlan=0,name=tap.0 -chardev pty,id=serial0 -serial chardev:serial0 -parallel none -usb -vnc 192.168.3.7:42 -vga cirrus In old server (jaunty): /usr/bin/kvm -S -M pc -m 384 -smp 1 -name alex2 -uuid 4c949839-9c2d-6c31 -8bfb-1b0b0504f92e -monitor pty -pidfile /var/run/libvirt/qemu//alex2.pid -localtime -boot c -drive file=/usr/local/var/kvm/alex2.img,if=ide,index=0,boot=on -net nic,macaddr=52:54:00:12:34:49,vlan=0 -net tap,fd=28,script=,vlan=0,ifname=vnet6 -serial pty -parallel none -usb -vnc 192.168.3.3:49 One difference I noted was that the -drive option has an extra argument format=raw which looks odd because the image I am using is qcow2 in format. Running the kvm command line directly from console in new server resulted in the following error: /usr/bin/kvm -S -M pc-0.12 -enable-kvm -m 256 -smp 1 -name a1.6-q2 -uuid 9f58079c-057f-5726-4daa-3d30888d7bbe -chardev socket,id=monitor,path=/var/lib/libvirt/qemu/a1.6-q2.monitor,server,nowait -monitor chardev:monitor -localtime -boot c -drive file=/var/kvm/a1.6-q2.img,if=ide,index=0,boot=on -net nic,macaddr=52:54:00:13:34:42,vlan=0,name=nic.0 -net tap,fd=42,vlan=0,name=tap.0 -chardev pty,id=serial0 -serial chardev:serial0 -parallel none -usb -vnc 192.168.3.7:42 -vga cirrus char device redirected to /dev/pts/4 TUNGETIFF ioctl() failed: Bad file descriptor TUNSETOFFLOAD ioctl() failed: Bad file descriptor pci_add_option_rom: failed to find romfile pxe-rtl8139.bin So I could not test with format=qcow2 in -drive option. [Bug 445595] Re: smbclient fails with SMBecho failed. Maybe server has closed the connection
Got this error on maverick when I try to connect to a Time Capsule (7.4.2). The error might be on the server side though since some Windows workstation have random problems when connecting as well... I had a look at wireshark and the Time Capsule does indeed respond with an error. The Echo Request packet (0x2b) receives a Echo Response (0x2b) with an NT status of 0x0002 (Unknown according to Wireshark): ff 53 4d 42 2b 02 00 ff ff 88 01 40 00 00 00 00 0010 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 23 0c 01 00 04 00 0020 00 00 00 I don't know if smbclient should handle such a response or not. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445595 Title: smbclient fails with SMBecho failed. So this bug is still present in Karmic. -- xinetd enabled is not overruled by disable in service declaration https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/280053 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to xinetd in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 297675] Re: catalina.policy and bootstrap.jar should be copied on soft linked
Eclipse uses installed tomcat, but create in fact it's own user instance, e.g. it creates separate server.xml, catalina.policy, catalina.properties, context.xml, tomcat-users.xml and web.xml configuration files. So, when configure installed runtime, it can be pointed to system installation (unpacked zip). There are also can be system configuration, but in Eclipse it might be redefined, so it can use another port, another polices and so on. One condition it requires a valid tomcat installation. When creating server runtime in eclipse, it requires bootstrap.jar in bin. When deploying application it requires catalina.policy file which used as initial catalina.policy for user installation. Now I do as you adviced: create my tomcat user instance, link bootstrap.jar and copy catalina.policy. It works. But I want to do less work and to work my user instance out of the box in Eclipse. -- catalina.policy and bootstrap.jar should be copied on soft linked https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/297675 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to tomcat6 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
