[Bug 1374166] Re: Document how to add swap space on Azure resource disk
So I ended up on this page and found the conclusion is azure cloud-init doesn't support adding a swap through configuration, is that true? Furthermore why isn't there a canonical doc or blog post that explain the correct way to add swap for Ubuntu VM on Azure? I have seen examples that modify /etc/fstab, and examples that modify /etc/waagent.conf, as well as trying to use CustomData. I have read both: - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AzureSwapPartitions - https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/virtual-machines-linux-agent-user-guide/ Yet I am still not sure how could I edit my configuration to create a swap through cloud-init on next boot. If this is fixed and released, then please help point me and whoever comes next to the right doc. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to cloud-init in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1374166 Title: Document how to add swap space on Azure resource disk To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-init/+bug/1374166/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1262853] Re: Apache2 config file not set up correctly during install
I appreciate the replies to the bug. I would like to state, just in case the point was missed, that apache would not run after performing a fresh server install. [Bug 1210270] [NEW] nmbd needs restarted on server reboot
Public bug reported: Ubuntu version = 12.04 samba version = 2:3.6.3-2ubuntu2.6 0 I set up a samba server as a Domain Member Server with AD authentication. It works fine except that when you restart the server samba services do not work and sudo commands hang for ~5min. A little debugging revealed that nmbd needed to be restarted before samba would work and to stop sudo commands from hanging: kfrank@tserver007:~$ time sudo su - root@tserver007:~# smbclient tserver007\\base -U kfrank Enter kfrank's password: session setup failed: NT_STATUS_MORE_PROCESSING_REQUIRED did you forget to run kinit? root@tserver007:~# exit logout real5m29.158s user0m0.220s sys 0m0.292s kfrank@tserver007:~$ I'm not even sure why it is asking me to run a kerberos command. I don't use kerberos in my build. Attached are my smb.conf and level 10 smbd and nmbd log files. I did a little more debugging and if I comment out the "wins server" line in smb.conf sudo commands don't hang anymore. Unfortunately I need that config to connect to the AD server. This issue kind of relates with https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/596064 which points out that there is a race condition between smbd and nmbd at startup. More specifically that the creation of /var/run/samba wasn't being created before nmbd starts. There's a lot of suggestions and fixes that worked for other people so I spent the better part of today messing around with /etc/init/nmbd.conf in hopes that nmbd would wait for smbd to finish starting up before starting. I've tried changing the start on parameter to start on (started smbd) which didn't result in anything different after a reboot. Also tried adding a mkdir -p /var/run/samba at the very beginning of the pre-start script. This worked in testing and even had it on the production server for a couple of days but after a while the same problem occurred on reboot. Tried it without the -p flag and got the same results. The only thing that has gotten consistent results so far is to add a sleep 1 before the pre-start script begins. Now samba works on reboot and sudo commands don't hang! Only problem is that the sleep command prevents the pid file for nmbd to not be generated. So if I feel like doing anything with the nmbd service I'm SOL. root@tserver007:/etc/init.d# service nmbd stop stop: Unknown job: nmbd root@tserver007:/etc/init.d# service nmbd status status: Unknown job: nmbd root@tserver007:/etc/init.d# service nmbd start start: Unknown job: nmbd root@tserver007:/etc/init.d# service nmbd restart stop: Unknown job: nmbd start: Unknown job: nmbd root@tserver007:/etc/init.d# So I decided to get rid of the sleep command. Currently I just have nmbd restart in rc.local which I know is a bad solution. Please advise on a better one. ** Affects: samba (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "smb.conf.rtf" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1210270/+attachment/3765316/+files/smb.conf.rtf -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1210270 Title: nmbd needs restarted on server reboot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1210270/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 614322] Re: libvirt not recognizing NUMA architecture
You can easily compile the latest libvirt version yourself: aptitude install build-essential, libxml2-dev, libgnutls-dev, libdevmapper-dev, libparted0-dev, libvirt-dev ./configure –prefix=/usr –exec-prefix=/usr –libdir=/usr/lib –includedir=/usr/include && make && make install There is a configure option "--with-numa", but I didn't use ist. libvirt recognizes the numa cells without this option. I know, I'm using an LTS release because of the support etc. I'm planning to upgrade, but I was first testing with this VM. It might give me problems with the production VM if I upgrade the host system, and I don't want that (neither do my clients :P). So I am planning to upgrade, but currently don't dare to do it. [Bug 626662] [NEW] KVM images losing connectivity w/bridged network
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: qemu-kvm I'm opening a new bug as per Serge Hallyn's request in bug #584048. I experience problems with one of my KVM virtual machines. I have a host running Hardy LTS with the KVM backport ppa (1:84+dfsg- 0ubuntu12.1~rc5ppa). The host is using a bridged network with 2 eth's (only 1 is physically connected) and 2 tap devices (for both of my VMs). The virtual machine that works without a problem is running Hardy LTS as well. The machine with problems is running Lucid LTS. The machines are started as: screen -t production kvm -m 2048m -nographic -drive file=production.raw,if=virtio, boot=on -net nic,macaddr=52:54:00:12:34:xx,model=virtio -net tap,ifname=tap0,script=no,downscript=no -smp 2 screen -t development kvm -m 1024m -nographic -drive file=development.raw,if=virtio, boot=on -net nic,macaddr=52:54:00:12:34:yy,model=virtio -net tap,ifname=tap1,script=no,downscript=no Development is the machine giving me problems. After a while (less than 24 hours) of no network activity, the machine loses it's connectivity. We're currently keeping it "running" by sending a ping request every minute and this seems to work, but the network seems pretty slow sometimes. ** Affects: qemu-kvm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Tags: bridge kvm ** Changed in: qemu-kvm (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- KVM images losing connectivity w/bridged network https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/626662 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 584048] Re: kvm images losing connectivity w/bridged network
Hi Serge, Thanks for your time! The problem is not with the mac addresses (at least not for me). As I reported earlier: > For me, these are not related, because I'm not modifying the bridge > when the connectivity is lost. As long as there is steady network > trafic (for example a ping every minute), the connectivity is not > lost. As soon as I stop this, the connectivity will be lost within a > few hours. Also note that my situation is like this: I have a host running Hardy with a bridge with two eth's and two tap devices. I have two kvm guests: one is Hardy as well and one is Lucid. Only the Lucid machines loses connectivity, the Hardy machine works fine. In KVM I have hardcoded the mac addresses (due to an issue of years before where both machines could get the same mac address). -- kvm images losing connectivity w/bridged network https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/584048 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

I tried Ubuntu 8.04 and 10.04 and both show about 50% of the performance that RHEL and CentOS do. This is a serious problem. [Bug 448600] Re: My machine froze while installing Sun JDK 6
This morning, I encountered the exact same error and consequences as posted above while trying to install the Sun Java runtime and plugin. I'm using the 9.10 beta, i386 version. I just noticed that I accidentally have Firefox 3.0 installed as well as 3.5. I'm not sure if that could have affected it.
