[Bug 1015104] [NEW] package winbind 2:3.6.3-2ubuntu2.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
You have been subscribed to a public bug: This is a systemic problem. Under the previous version I had installed the "lexmark-inkjet-09-driver" package which installed using a shell tar script. Unfortunately the description had one line with just a space in it. Not a blank line: a space. Now, 'dpkg' could report to me that this particular package "had a blank line" in the Description field of that particular package. If it could do that, why couldn't it just overcome this difficulty? And the line DID have a space in it! (I tried to use '}' and '{' in 'vi' to get to it, and failed. 'Dpkg' should be able to understand the same thing.) When I tried to install 12.04 over the previous version, MANY packages failed to install. They are now ghost images in the update manager, and I haven't yet figured how to get them to install. The user interface is missing such little things as the logout / lock screeen / reboot menu and any way to run apps that were not already buttons on the desktop. Help? Yes, _I_ know how to find the programs and run them from the shell, but not everyone in my family is willing to do that! Thanks!
