Public bug reported: Encountered an issue while updating from 13.10 to 14.04 : the upgrade encountered an error, stated the system could be unusable. Every time I tried to use sudo afterwards, it resulted in a "segmentation fault (core dumped" error.
I removed samba (and a lot of other, important looking, packages) via synaptic, and now sudo works again.
