Public bug reported: The description for the mysql-server metapackage is wrong.
The package's data reads: Package: mysql-server Version: 5.5.35+dfsg-1ubuntu1 Depends: mysql-server-5.5 Description-en: MySQL database server (metapackage depending on the latest version) However, the package depends on mysql-server-5.5 while there is mysql- server-5.6 available as well. Thus, it doesn't depend on the "latest version" as it claims. In fact, mysql-server-5.5 is the oldest version in the current repositories. The description should read something like "MySQL database server (metapackage depending on a conservative default version)" ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: mysql-server (not installed) ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.16.0-48.64~14.04.1-generic 3.16.7-ckt15 Uname: Linux 3.16.0-48-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.11 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Thu Sep 24 13:43:29 2015 InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-05-18 (129 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release amd64 (20150218.1) SourcePackage: mysql-5.5 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: mysql-5.5 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug trusty -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to mysql-5.5 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1499155 Title: Description of mysql-server package wrong/misleading To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-5.5/+bug/1499155/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
