It looks exactly the same issue. I use smbfs instead cifs but I've tested it on both. I also noticed that this problem is only during access to Debian server. I've got network drive (Icy Box NAS 2000) and I can rewrite files mounted on the same way. Looks a lot like bug 286828, especially as etch seems to be using 3.0.24-6etch10.
