I've just had a hard time with automount and finaly figured out i'm not alone, This is not my only problem with automount (the other could turn out to be me), but I can confirm the the directory mountpoints in auto.master does indeed disapear. I'll try to get to it, but it may take a bit because my test case is inside of a debootstrap environment that is not at all trivial to setup and therefore not something I can run from the live CD.
