[Bug 494243] Re: package samba 2:3.4.0-3ubuntu5.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2009-12-09 Thread Thierry Carrez
Anything showing up in /var/log/syslog when you try to start samba
manually (sudo /etc/init.d/samba start) ?

Try purging to see if it goes better:
$ sudo cp /etc/samba/smb.conf ~/smb.conf.backup
$ sudo apt-get purge samba-common samba
$ sudo apt-get install samba
Does samba start ? If yes:
$ sudo cp ~/smb.conf.backup /etc/samba/smb.conf
$ sudo /etc/init.d/samba restart

Samba apparently fails to start.

Could you provide the following information:
 * the content of the /etc/samba/smb.conf file
 * log files found in /var/log/samba/

You can also try: "sudo apt-get purge samba-common samba" then try to
reinstall samba.
