Thanks for your report.

From the error log it seems that you've manually  deleted a configuration 
file.

Not replacing deleted config file /etc/samba/smb.conf
Install/upgrade will fail. To recover, please try:
  sudo cp /usr/share/samba/smb.conf /etc/samba/smb.conf
  sudo dpkg --configure -a

To recover, follow the workaround provided above.

I'm closing this report because it is not a bug in Ubuntu. Don't
hesitate to submit any new bug.
